Not everyone manages to catch the episodes at the same times, especially when its an overseas show, so a lot of people have to wait for american broadcast a few hours later, or the internets to have it.
If I havent seen the episode, I ignore this thread, DW forums and spoiler blogs full stop.
Just because people havent seen certain classic series episodes should I spoiler them too. Hardly any other threads on here, particularly in the media section worry about this.
Hell, the One Piece anime followers might be wondering why they look so different in your top-image. Not trying to be funny or anything… I just don't really see the point. If somethings has aired and your worried about spoilers then you shouldnt really be peeking in the discussion thread anyway. It's not like a scanlation, it IS always out on the same day. We dont really have much in the way of discussion going on in here that ISN'T about the current episodes at the moment so aren't the tags just redundant?
@Ubiq:
They have a Transmat system that doesn't require a machine on their end; isn't that Dalek technology?
Human
We got an entire montage of her getting into trouble and Amy being the one standing around waiting or bailing her out. Wouldn't you eventually wonder where her parents are?
Definitely. That doesn't mean that it wouldnt be easy enough to sort something out though
Because the television series clearly has a history of letting the audiobooks and novels prevent them from doing whatever they wanted onscreen. The Eighth Doctor Adventures, like all the spinoff material, have a dubious canon status anyway.
Well obviously. I thought you were referring to a comic with The Monk stranded on an Ice Planet. The audio books and novels have never "done whatever they wanted". They've had to ask several times if they could use certain plot or story elements but have been turned down. Big Finish and DWM's Comic particularly. RTD himself pulled the Eighth > Ninth regeneration from The Flood. If having the Monk back as a main villain with a proper standing and all out change then they would never have ok'd him.
That's merely a polite way of saying that the character's history is riddled with plot holes. Beyond that, if it's just the Silence, how exactly would they figure out a poison that arrests regeneration and kills the Time Lord within a thirty-five minute span when their only test subject is the intended assassin?
Who's saying that the Judas Tree isn't common knowledge? The Doctor wasn't exactly busy asking questions about it.
1. Until we see some sign that the EDAs are canon, they have no bearing in this sort of discussion.
2. The mere fact that he had two appearances in the entire history of the show is all the more reason to use him. He was the first Time Lord villain and woefully underused in light of that, comedic or not.
3. Considering that we just saw an episode about people using time travel and a unique camoflage system to punish people within their lifespan for closure's sake, does he necessarily have to be evil in the normal sense to be an antagonist here? Hell, from the Monk's viewpoint, the Doctor almost certainly counts as the single greatest war criminal in the history of the universe.
1. Already explained. Even so, The Monk isn't that sort of character and theres still a list a mile long of more relevant villains that make more sense. I do get what you mean but theres definitely other ways they could have gotten Time Lord DNA to experiment with. We've just seen an entire planet with bits and pieces of broken TARDISes all across it's surface with enough spare parts to salvage a working console in 20 minutes and The Doctor's TARDIS was meant to be the last one.
2. Moffat isn't stupid. He understands these characters. The Monk is and was never like that. He's greedy, he's conniving but he isn't particularly evil. I agree, there should have definitely been more but by that excuse it would make much more sense to have other popular and underused characters like The Toymaker. Hell, the Omega rumours were pushing it but The Monk just makes no sense. Do you honestly think that it's at all likely?
3. Who's even saying that the Teselecta were antagonists in the first place? Melody Pond was the villain. They were just kind of…. there. They weren't allied with The Silence and that's what were talking about. The Monk hated the Time Lords more than The Doctor. If anything - he'd be glad to get rid of them. He's the kind of character who would congratulate the Doctor rather than punish him.
@RobbyBevard:
Every episode of Doctor Who ever, in five minutes. From the first up through GMGTW.
Very cool. And crazy seeing how much of it I actually recognize.
Caught this the other day. Not bad but a bit too brief in places.
Tho I'm slowly going through the series in order… and I haven't gotten to Pertwee in drag yet.
The Green Death. Not nearly as funny as you'd expect that bit to be.
…anyway, this is good! Been a while since we've had some decent discussion in here!
