The only other third party characters worthy for this game are Bomberman, Simon Belmont, and Megaman. Anyone else is utter shit.

One more thing, looks like characters have victory poses. I doubt what they did were taunts, since they seemed to interact with each other.
I want to believe those aren't victory poses, but intro poses like the original one had. Those were one thing I really missed from Melee, and some of the things I've seen in videos just look like them (Snake coming out of the box in a couple different videos, Pit descending in the new trailer, and Sonic's spindash and pose before him running across the Zelda bridge in his video).

You don't understand the Poochie metaphor, do you, Leaf?
Whatever, he looks pretty unique playing style wise among the roster, so I'll give him shot. I'm just really curious on how they can make Super Sonic…....slightly interesting as a final smash. You know, something beyond gold energy blast and super speed.
-
I like those characters too, myoga.
I also have to clarify that I'm obviously no video game scholar so of course my opinion isn't fact. :) I'm only trying to defend Sonic's existence in Smash Bros.
If the fans hadn't requested Sonic, then his creator could have begged to have him included like the Metal Gear guy did for Snake.
-
maybe he will fly in on a hoverboard and fire machine guns at people while shadow performs a drive-by in his convertible
-

Actually, I don't.
I'm thinking of Poochie in the context of that Simpsons episode.
What do you guys mean when you compare characters to Poochie?
-
Sonic games have always been… Shitty to me. You pretty much went through the old ones by holding right down and occasionally jumping.
Couldn't that also be used to describe other classic platforming games like Mario and MegaMan? If anything I found the old Sonic levels to have more to them than Mario's. A Sonic level often had multiple routes through the level while the closest thing I've seen in a Mario level was an alternative exit. I'm sorry if that sounds rather fanboyish but I grew up as a Sonic fan. Don't get me wrong. I love Super Mario World as much as I loved Sonic 3 and Knuckles but frankly I think people go a bit to far with the Sonic hating.
So Sonic has been confirmed. Another reason to look forward to the game. Now back to life.

Omfg I Just Looked At The Site.
I Came.

Characters who try WAY too hard to be "cool." Sometimes forced Larry Stus.
Ace is the One Piece example
-
I dig Sonic in the game, so nobody can kill my joy no matter how hard they try. Poochie or not, I'm there and Can't wait to start owning people with Sonic online.
-
The good thing about sonic is that EVERYONE will play him.
So leaves the other characters for the rest of us.
-
Like I said i can't wait to go online and see what matches are in play
SONIC VS. FOX VS. FOX VS. SNAKE
SONIC VS. SONIC VS. MARTH VS. SONIC
MARTH VS. SNAKE VS. FOX VS. MARTH
etc.

I had no idea! Thanks for explaining that. When I think of Poochie, I think of a character who was randomly created just to be the new guy and waste space or a new character that was randomly made just to save a dying franchise. Interesting interpretation from you guys.
I see where you guys are coming from about Sonic trying too hard to be cool, but he's still an iconic, establishment mascot character who left a huge mark on the video game industry. Therefore, I will disregard the Poochie status you guys have given him. It's your opinion though and I respect that.
Anyhow, I wonder what tonight's update will be?
-
eh, let the people with no Skill play like that, I'll be randomizing my character for every game (and Yes, I will play Sonic or Marth, or Fox should I get them in the Random Select) and I'll end up kicking The Sonic, Fox, and Marth's Ass with characters they think suck, Like Peach.

Buccaneer and I introduced the term to the board as a way to describe Ace, I believe

apparently using a normal configured nunchuck wiimote control will have Jump on the d pad.
And something about Smash balls coming out like normal items, though I guess that might mean that they just appear in the battle like a normal item or something.
-
Another thing that excites me about Sonic appearing in Smash is that maybe SEGA will deem fit to lend Nintendo the license to Sonic and have Nintendo take a swing at rejuvinating the franchise. At least I hope so, it's painful to see a childhood hero suck so much these days.

@Cyringohn:
Sonic Heroes was the worst Sonic game ever made. Sonic Adventure 2 was… playable. At best.
QFT! Finally someone who doesn't like the game and isn't just some shadow fangirl/boy rating every game he's in with 10/10. Or saying, "OMG THIS GAME ROCKS, THE GAME PLAY SUCKS BUT THE GRAPHICS ARE GREAT LOL!"… i seriously read reviews like that on GameFAQs
@Cyringohn:
Most people don't hate Sonic – they hate what he's become. It's more of a comparison thing, not an all-out hatred.
Sonic was fine before he became associated with horrible rock songs, shitty games, and some of the worst secondary [and, sadly, primary] characters in existence: Shadow, Silver, all those dumb new animals from the Sonic Adventure series, etc.
If Sega would grow some fucking testacles and revert back to the old canon, where it was just Sonic & Tails [maybe Knuckles, even though he's really lame too] vs. Dr. Eggman, we'd be in business.
If I ever won the lottery, I'd buy Sonic and make great games for him. Sonic Tails and Knuckles is all you need. I just wanna fucking kill Shadow, he's the worst game character in the history of the universe. Not too far off from Roxas and Tidus though.
Sonic adventure was a step in the right direction, they just needed to narrow it down to Sonic, Tails and Knuckles after that. Ooshima or whatever his name was, wanted to do that but Naka wanted to expand. Guess who won the arguement? People say that Naka created Sonic and stuff… no he didn't. He did the programming but he wasn't meant to design like Naoto Oshima and Yasuhara were. And he can suck my imaginary cock with his "Sonic likes to eat Happy Meals" bullshit.
Its about time.
Now ..we Need Tails or shadow as a assistant trophy.

You mean Takeshi Iizuka right?
He’s the one who’s been leading the series down the drain.Naka was just an executive producer who agreed to anything as long as there was a chance to make money.
If Naka was truly concerned about the sonic franchise, why would he leave sonic team instead of overhauling it? -
Shadow was fine to me in SA2, I actually liked him, not because "OMFG, it's an Evil Sonic! fangasm" it was because I honestly HATED the Emerald-seeking Levels, and only moderately liked the Tails/Eggman Levels, and Only Liked the Sonic Levels, and Shadow's Played JUST Like his, so it was essentially giving me more of the part of the Game I really liked.
and I thought the end of SA2 gave his character what it needed, a Heroes Death, thus redeeming him for all wrong doings, yay, that's nice… and then... they brought him back... and "Developed his Character" more... and it was just stupid
I DID like SA2 though, I thought the Level Design was awesome, and (The Sonic/Shadow Levels At least) Played very very well, remniscent of the Sonic Levels in SA1 -

I remember hearing the Dreamcast would be discontinued and I felt kind of sad that the sonic series would of ended with the console.
Looking back in retrospect, it should of.The series would be more respected today if Sega called it quits at that very point.
Kind of like if Toriyama ended Dragonball at the destruction of Namek or cell. -
In the new non-Sonic video, when it showed Torchic, was that a stage based off of Norfair from Super Metroid?
Also, Sonic's in the game! I've wanted him in since it was announced that the game would have third-party characters, and I like most of his games (I hated Shadow the Hedgehog, both the game and the character, and I haven't played the PS3/360 game, although it sounds terrible. I actually didn't mind Sonic Heroes, though, and I liked Sonic and the Secret Rings (minus the voice acting of the 'Ring Spirit' that helps you out)).

I burst out laughing when I saw this update, holy shit.
It was kind of obvious that he was going to be in it, otherwise Nintendo wouldn't have bothered mentioning that he was the most requested third-party character. They're "giving the fans what they want."
Hopefully Sonic is low-tier so NOT EVERYONE will play as him.
-
What exactly gives people the impression that Sonic is gonna be the character that everyone is gonna use from here on out?

If they do come out like normal items, maybe there will be a chance of more than one popping up near the same time. mainly to see a Giga Bowser and a transformed Ganon fighting each other.
