I haven't felt this way about Ippo ever, on the other hand I've always felt this way about Takamura, so it's nice to have this feeling for Ippo finally. Ippo might actually mature a little and want to seek out higher spots.

imo I think it was the spar he was going to have with Miyata's opponent. For got his name though, in the end though, ended up not fighting.

Ok, that drawing of Ippo is certainly epic. Although I like his character a lot it sure would be interesting to see him lose it for once. Although I would imagine he will get some sort of lesson out of it like getting disqualified for attacking the opponent after the bell rang or because his boxing style changes too much and he leaves too many openings.
Anyway it's clear that we will see it most likely during the upcoming fight and I'm really looking forward to it.

I read the chap and came here to ask this (without the condescending 'class' crap, of course) - anyone recall the other fight? I'm going back through his fights on the wiki but nothing is ringing a bell.
I am wondering about the growth or change foreshadowed here. And whatever happened to Ippo being able to swap into southpaw, wasn't that totally bossin awesome? Anyway, I'm glad to be really back into this manga again after that whole fiasco with the jumpy monkey boy.

For some reason I have this feeling it's going to be the coach who almost makes him lose the fight. it's just int he back of my mind. maybe because of what Takamura said "act like the champion"
And then Kamogawa said "that's good advice but Act like the challenger, it's always worked out for you this way"
SO maybe The opponent is going to go in as the challenger and read all the moves of Ippo?
Or maybe it'll be a copy cat? and he'll try and use the Dempsey roll on Ippo?
Or hell, maybe he has a tendency to go left and that'll be his down fall. Though I would be hella disappointed.

We joke but there are threads of darkness in this manga which leave me tantalized. Do you remember the end of Berserk (the anime, obviously) when EVERYTHING YOU'D SEEN was just the beginning of something monstrous and crazy and totally different? I keep hoping that will happen to this (or any other) manga. Ippo snaps, kills a man in the ring, that kind of thing. We had glimpses of it during fights with Sawamura and Mashiba, and we've seen Itagaki's dark side as he reaches towards Ippo as well as his mind's eye version of an angry Ippo (looked so bad ass, why tease the audience with it if it'll never occur?) – isn't it reasonable to think that there lies a dark undercurrent within the god of wind? I like to think so, or at least hope for it. I've been hoping for over a year though and while we get little bits of foreshadowing, they might never come to fruition...
It would be very nice. Remember that guy Ippo K'Oed in less than a minute? Here's hoping.
Ponchai! Ponchai Chuwatana! The Date Eiji-faking headroller (no heartbreak shot) to show that Ippo had evolved during his hiatus. That fight gave me hope. It's been so long, though… Ippo hasn't steamrolled anyone, before or since. It would be great to get one before he moves on to the world stage to show that he has no competition left in Japan, something akin to (but obviously not identical to) Takamura's left-only bout. Also, when's the goddamn Dempsey roll coming out of its retirement?
