Anyone know what have been censored in some of the more recent Viz mangas? I mean image censoring, and not dailogue. For instance, Shaman King had the censoring of Ponchi. Any other?
Viz Manga censoring?

in short:
Hikaru no Go: Light: Ciggarettes and such
Shaman King: Moderate: You know
Naruto: Light: Middle fingers
Dragonball(Z): Heavy: Breasts, gunplay, middle fingers, gun wounds
I's: Moderate: Breasts
Dr.Slump: One semi-rascist panel to my knowledge
Kinnikuman 2(Ultimate Muscle): Heavy I think
One Piece: A navy sign, and presumably more such will followLONG LIVE THE GLORIUS YU YU HAKUSHO STAFF! INTEGRITY LIVES ON.
-
I'm not sure what edits have been in Kinnikuman Nisei besides the 4Kids name changes. I'm not surprised if they edit a lot, it's a pretty damn gory manga.
-

When you phrase it that way, people inevitably get the wrong idea about what happened. Since when does replacing a kanji with it's English translation count as an art edit? You might as well list every DON being changed to DOOM.
Anyway: they changed the sign to Roguetown and erased a manji.

i think he may mean the marines being changed to the navy
-
Yes, and admittingly thats second hand.
But no matter how whack my DB accusations…..THOSE are first hand.
-
@gilrules2000:

Which didn't happen. A kanji sign that said Kaigun on the Headquarters was twice changed to read Navy in English. All instances where the word Marine appeared were left intact before, after, and between those two incidents.
Altering a sign that says 海軍 to read Navy is not an art edit, especially if it's the valid English translation of that word. If you consider an art edit, then by that logic, changing sound effects is also an art edit.

Please don't make declarative statements of fact about a situation if you don't really know what the situation is and especially do not make predictions as to what that portends for the future.
All it does is create rumors that those of us who actually do know what the situation is have to stamp out.

hey i was just interpreting. I dont care for shonen jump for the most part so ill stay out of this

Almost all nudity is censored out and the symbol on Dead Signal/Road Rage's face is written in English.

Uh, editing sound effects is considered an art edit, translation or no. It's just an understandable one, much like the navy sign.

I classify sound effects as dialogue (though from the world itself rather than the characters), which would place it under the category of translation rather than editing of art.
Definitions of it vary, but again, if you're going to complain about a sign, then you might as well complain about DON not being in there as well.

I did get proof of this.
Theres a panel…where I believe Arale or someone kicked a ball all the way to some jungle where a cannibal tribe finds it....
They're blacks in the original....and are sorta racist in the Oooga Booga islander way... Viz redrew them to look like demons. -
About the Dragonball thing, my library actually has 2 different versions of some of the volumes. I remember that in the chapter where Yamcha goes to try and steal the DB from the trailer that Goku and everyone is in, in one it showed Bulma's breast, and another one they made it look like there's a glare on the window. I think the red covered DB mangas have less, or almost no censorings
-
The red ones are uncensored. DB 1 - 3 were originally censored but due to the reaction of fans were re-released uncensored. However I'm unsure if this happened before or after they were released as the smaller red books.

Those are REALLY old versions. I have both of them, and I got them about 5 years ago.
I think this new shit Viz is pulling is going to be the only version you can get.
Again, that's total bullshit, because if I am paying for it, it shouldn't be censored.

Those Dragonball volumes are REALLY old…
But guess what, the REALLY new ones are censored too!
If it has "Shopro" on the side, run and hide. -
Did anyone notice that the mild language in OP is gone(probably did notice that)? O.o
When I bought the SJ manga, Luffy in the Arlong arc screamed, "OKAY!!!" instead of "DAMN RIGHT!!!"Now "I'll repay you… with my Bo-dy." is now "I'll repay you with kisses.". Viz probably did that because what Bellemere normally said was sexually related.
EDIT: Both changes are from months ago.
-
They've significantly toned down the cursing in all thier series.
And HAVE censored the sexual dialouge.
I really doubt that "I'll repay you with kisses" Vs. "I'll repay you with my body." is a translation choice.Though I still find it a marvel how good the YuYu Hakusho staff has been during all of this.
-
Remember that many times scanlators and fansubbers tend to exaggerate the bad words…

I have the Japanese Dr. Slump manga and as far as I can tell, there was no change to those cannibal guys - they have pale skin and pointy ears in the original version too.
There was at least one odd dialogue change to Slump though - in the "…is missing" chapter, they have Arale start to say 'rear' when describing what she doesn't have, when in the original, Senbe assumed she was taking about genitals. Having her specifically say 'rear' makes no sense at all, since we later find out she was talking about her bellybutton.
Volume 1's all I have in English, so I can't speak for changes to the later ones.Regarding other Viz manga, I noticed they changed some of Chizuru's more explicit statements in volume 5 of Bleach (which bugged me as I'm a big Chizuru fan, see left), but at least judging by volume 2 they aren't trying to cover up her orientation.
(Edited to get rid of multiple post)

Did they now Sakurai?

Wow, that's totally retarded.

Guys, we can't blame Viz for the editing. We should blame the soccer moms for complaining over stupid stuff like seeing black people in the manga, or cursing.
The blood and religious content are going bye-bye next. I just know it. -_-' Soon, all the manga in America will be kiddy-ized.
-
Though I still find it a marvel how good the YuYu Hakusho staff has been during all of this.
YuYu Hakusho IS the only unedited manga in the magazine, but the 1930's slang in place of swearing makes it unreadable for me. Worse than Luffy's "DARN YOU!!!"
-
Actually they kind of mix it up with that stuff and real swearing.
And I'm still of the opinion that it strangely works.
Oh, new edit I caught in HnG, in Vol.6 Kaga leaps into the room because he was trying to set off "firecrackers" and was caught. He's holding a firecracker (ciggarette) in his hands. Later the teacher looking for him mentions "That darn gum chewing brat", which is obviously Kaga our smoker.

Volume 1's all I have in English, so I can't speak for changes to the later ones.…I don't remember anything about her rear in my volume one. I got the feeling that he thought she was missing a vagina, too (I've only read the english one)
-
That's weird. The Japanese version I have has the same art as the English version - but it's a 1997 printing, so it must have been censored in Japan at some point. (Maybe with an eye on international releases?) So the Viz version is accurately reproducing already-altered artwork, apparently.
And in my English volume one, on page 39 Senbe is jumping to cover up Arale's word balloon, which says "my re–". It's good news if they changed that in subsequent printings, because it made no sense to the story. -
Wow, I knew Dogasu looked familiar. He's from my alma mater.
