meethz is a film student who's supposed to make 30 film journals in her three-month holiday. now that holiday's down to two weeks left and this she's only done 16! film requirements from her lectures are 'artsy' and 'political' films, so meethz decides to tackle documentaries, european/foreign films, and oscar-like films for this assignment.

so far she's seen:

now meethz asks for your help and suggestions, which films do you think should she buy and watch? it doesn't have to be new films, but it needs to be interesting with a nice round plot.

meethz now wonders why she is referring to herself in the third person.

syriana -- i think this would fall under documentary
eternal sunshine of the spotless mind -- definitely artsy
kinsey -- somewhat documentary

i've got nothing else i can remember at the moment, but definitely check those out.

i saw this on imdb recently, and i thought it looked interesting. dvds for old films are hard to find and a tad bit more expensive, but i'll still be keeping this film in my list.

big fish, eternal – saw these ages ago & loved it. will definitely watch it again.

oh! you have no idea how long i've been searching for that columbine docu and rabit-proof fence! it's been on my list since i started film but i can't seem to ever find them…

I found the new Criterion DVD release at the local Best Buy. I think the retail price is $30.00, but you can find it on the internet cheaper usually. The DVD has some nice extras and a 29 page booklet.

they're…. not EXACTLY documentaries, but i think they should be able to pass for one. O_o

if you want documentary, definitely go for harry pott... er, i mean MARCH OF THE PENGUINS! XD

sorry i can't really be much of a help, but the artiest movie i can think of that wasn't listed already would probably be 8 1/2. It's an old Italian movie. As far as the political, i hear Hotel Rowanda was pretty good.

"The Great Escape" was a classic and it stays true to the escape methods; greatly enjoyed it. Wish there were subtitles/cc on the tv tho. Stupid accents -_-

"Shawshank Redemption" is a very inspiring movie, also with a prison background.

"The Green Mile" is also very good; it got two Oscar nominations, me thinks? For Michael Clarke-Duncan, best supporting actor or something. Wait, it's prison themed too…

What is it with me and prison movies O_O...

my version of March of the Penguins happened to be the cantonese adaptation. it boggles my mind how that version got stranded in indo. :blink:
