As for me: My University's department of Asian studies was having an Haiku contest. I wrote this one:
As the moon over the day,
My brains and brawn
are wasted on these fools.
Bonus points to who guesses the origin.

Super Mario RPG.
I feel like a huge dork everytime I sit down in the manga aisle at stores reading through manga.
"According to My Calculations…" I said that in math class last year xD
When I was trying to explain something in Basic Skills, I kept saying "technically….".
I've really gotten into a few videogames. I even made up a few stories. No one knows, but I feel like a really big loser when I think about it.
Sitting in the manga section embarrassed me at first, but then I started looking around and noticed that everyone in the bookstores are nerdier than me, they just don't like manga.
Eh, I played some old games too much. Like Diablo II. I finished GTA: Vice City 100%… but that feels like an accomplishment!
Representing my school in the English Speech Contest... and researching a whole bunch of topics feel nerdy too. Bleh.
Being the only kid in each of my classes to like Animal Crossing ;3
When I went to Disney World for our band trip, I forgot my french horn. They packed an extra one though, so I got to play on one that smelled funny and use my friend's mouthpiece.
And there was that incident at graduation that involved my frenchhorn, or lack there of, and me sitting behing the choir so my parents wouldn't see.
When I was with my friends at school we saw a really hot girl and I accidentally shouted in a Berry White voice OH BABY she then turned around and slapped me in front of everyone.
everytime i wave my hand right before the elevator door opens.
I came here.
And yesterday, in the parking lot. A quick clip from my conversation with a girl named Ashley:
Ashely: How much mileage does your car get?
Me: I dunno
Ashley stares me
Ashely: But you're a DUDE.
Me: I'm a NERD.

That's not nerdy. That's just stupid. XD
everytime i wave my hand right before the elevator door opens.
I do that to ALL of the automatic doors at supermarkets and stuff.
I once tried to impress a girl with pokemon cards. =I
Captain Sogeking, you totally win the thread with that one. XD
So far posting on this thread is the nerdiest. Although reading comics and playing TC games is the closest I've done lately. Or does that make me a geek?
Once I played kickball and blindly ran into a girl and then later that game running into a boy.
When me and a bunch of people were watching the Star Wars Holiday Special, Chewbacca's wife was watching a cooking show that called for Bantha meat, to which I yelled, "Banthas don't live on Kashyyk, they live on Tatooine!!"
Singing the "Mail Time" song from Blue clues in front of my friend. >_< Which bout one of the most awkward silences in my life.
When I start singing loudly then realize I'm not alone =(
High ranking ones:
Science team, two years in a row.
Spending my birthday in the computer graveyard, not a party or concert.
I play Magic the Gathering, nuf said
Science team, two years in a row.
Ha ha! x3 I actually have somthing similar to that.
How about joining the college marching band when music isn't your major? Or better yet, how about also joining the band service sorority which does about 10 extra hours a week setting up and tearing down and sorting the band uniforms? Or listen to movie and suddenly start talking about the background music?
Although band nerds > regular nerds, just so everybody knows. xD
Or listen to movie and suddenly start talking about the background music?
Guilty of that. Once me and my pals (from band too) were watching some movie, and we started commenting on the baseline, saying pizzicato and what not. For me it's a bit worse, cos they know I have perfect pitch (another nerdy thing) and keep asking me what key whatever new song is in.
I sing about anything sometimes. Tho thats not really nerdy its just annoying. but sogeking the pokemon card thing. XD " ive got an ultra rare charizard in my pocket if you want to reach in and grab it" XD
And another admission by me is that I am a big pokemon fan, expert on the game mechanics and all that.
but sogeking the pokemon card thing. XD " ive got an ultra rare charizard in my pocket if you want to reach in and grab it" XD
No thats all right :D .
BTW the card I tried to impress her with was a pikachu (I always thought girls liked that thing)
Wow, holy shit. I think you all beat me.
For a period of time I could remember that pokemon song at the end of the first episodes where they named the little freaks.
Discussing the etymology of "etymology."
I'm a wordnerd. XD
Breaking a hotel box to watch Pop Her Cherry 3. >_>
I still love Pokemon, not the cards like but I have all the games released so far ^_^;
Scream Rock and Roll at this girl buying Wild Zero in the middle of a Barnes and Noble.
I sat at home playing PSO during schoolies week. =(
I am too uber-manly to do anything nerdy.
…
But joining the school paper probably comes close.
Hmm I guess I need an explanation here…most of the things you guys posted (like joining the school band, for example) I wouldn't consider nerdy...but maybe the definition I know of nerdy is not correct. Also, what differentiates a nerd from a geek?
Thanks in advance for your help...
Edit: Phlemingo, you really have Absolute/perfect pitch? IMO that's so damn awesome...a rare ability like that is something to boast, I think.
@The:
"Banthas don't live on Kashyyk, they live on Tatooine!!"
They're not indigenous to Tatooine, but were introduced as pack animals by settlers.
As far as the topic goes, it's pretty hard to say actually.
Probably signing up for "Tolkien and Critical Theory" while I was in college.
Oh let me get my list out. Unrolls a big parchment of paper
-Spent 2 years in the high school Robotics club
-Joined both the high school and college paper
-Collected all sorts of collectible cards, like Magic, Pokemon, Yu Gi Oh, etc.
-Checked out 6 Shakespeare books at once on a sheer whim.
-I bought a law term dictionary for no reason and keep it on my computer desk at all times.
-Asked for a fire extinguisher for one Christmas
-I own all of the Calvin and Hobbes books, including the new "Complete Calvin and Hobbes" collection that has every single comic Bill Waterson ever drew in three books
-Stayed up all night playing Earthbound, Phantasy Star IV and then later, Phantasy Star Online and World of Warcraft
-Collect video game strategy guides and movie novelizations
-Danced to the Price is Right yodel
-Information addict. I need to know everything about everything. Wikipedia is my bitch.
I win.
" ive got an ultra rare charizard in my pocket if you want to reach in and grab it"
Oh. Wow. XD
(And Warp, your avvie is awesome. XP )
Also, what differentiates a nerd from a geek?
Nerd - smart, enjoys alot of things like fantasy, sci-fi, games, anime, technology, etc., and tends to like it for the specific reasons such as the design, story, etc.. All these things, but can typically still seem cool (to an extent).
Geek - sometimes the above, but shows it. Looks like the stereotype alot of shows try to portray (big glasses, braces, bow tie, suspendes, blah blah). Basically, a prodigy with no self-esteem whatsoever.
Dork - like a geek, only stupid.
Another nerdy bit:
I can speel, pronounce, and know the correct meaning of the words pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, antidisestablishmentarianism, and floccinaucinihilipilification.
And no, that was NOT copy and paste. :)
-Wikipedia is one of my favorite sites.
-I bought a Japanese dictionary over manga (so I could read untranslated manga :p ).
-Won 2nd Place in Region for PROMOTE Georgia for this.
-Later took a Website Design class.
-HTML is fun.
@Zio:
-Stayed up all night playing Earthbound, Phantasy Star IV and then later, Phantasy Star Online and World of Warcraft
I often did that with RPGs, but was more inclined to do so with strategy games. On Civilization for the SNES, every space of North America that wasn't a city had a railroad, irrigation, and a fort.
-Information addict. I need to know everything about everything. Wikipedia is my bitch.
Same here. Everytime I go to a used bookstore I check out the Reference section for things like The Book of Lists, Imponderables, or The Straight Dope.
Even outdated factbooks are interesting, especially if they try to predict how the future is going to turn out.
I use to hunt down books on dinosaurs, hoaxes (mainly UFOs), magic tricks, and anything involving making up your own games.
Well being a nerd is something to be proud of then. Not even being a geek seems that bad. Of course, my opinion is biased…
Zio: you know everything about everything: what do you mean? you have learned several encyclopedias by heart? you have memorized everything you have ever read/heard/seen? Could you explain yourself better?
OT: IMO Wikipedia is seriously overrated. A popular lie can pass for truth much more easily there, incompetent people abound...

I'd say something in favor of my Christianity, but I fear this becoming another religous "debate". :P
It's interesting to see how much Wiki really holds…

Nope, the one flaw in my addiction is that I can't remember all of that I gather. Then again, no human can. But I have trouble remember people, facts, data, and things after a week or two.
I do have more of an ethusiasm towards learning everything about people rather than offical reports about how many people were living in a town back in the 1980s for example. I tend to listen to other people's conversations, making sure to note things that could be important. I find that drunken people are perfect to get information, provided that they are the confessional kind of drunk. You never know when it could be handy in the future (though some people can abuse it and be guilty of extortion.)
And for the record, Wikipedia is only great for the articles that do not have a large rabid fan base or new articles created about the media. It's horrible, like when someone created the Stella article. The article was poorly typed and ended with "Scott, are you coming over to watch it?" Horrible.
Back in high school, I used to be part of a group which would meet every weekend for some Star Wars Universe roleplaying. We did it in the old D&D style. Nothing but character sheets, dice, a good GM, and our imaginations. Ah, those were the days…
I played D&D one time, and it was just me and my cousin, so he had to be the GM and player at the same time.
We died the first time before even entering the cave, so he let us start over and "hire" an "NPC".
We got in, got ambushed by about 20 goblins, I was slapped out of uncounciousness and had to carry everyone out of the cavern.
The second game we played, I was a Lizardman (yay!). His Intelligence was bad enough, but I ended up rolling crap, which made it even worst…
Basically, I went through a swamp, killed some skeletons (of other lizardmen), but my character was so stupid I wasn't able to realize what they were. When I did, I finally figured out I could use my weapon to bludgeon (which, frankly, works better on bony creatures that stabbing...).
Then there this necromantic fairy that I killed (my cousin's acting of it was quite... interesting), cooked, ate him, then raided his house.
Fun. :D
Nerdiest ever? Well I lead a pretty nerdy life, but yelling out mellorine every several minutes tops the list, that and I still play Pokemon games and the TCG. I play Magic, spend my spare time writing massive lists on random topics, watch anime (this is considered exceedingly nerdy at my school), and enjoy drawing fanart and writing fanfics. The kids at school are very rude towards otaku's. Phhbt, they spend there time "Skateboarding" (trying to do an olly, only to fall and break something) and being emo.
At my school not having a girlfriend is pretty nerdy so i'm the nerdiest muthaf**ker around.=)
I visit this forum everyday. Nerdy.
I love being a nerd. I find the "cool popular" life just pathetic. Always doing idiotic things. I will do anything to keep myself from being associated with those people.

Same thing at my school. I got the same problem. Nearly everyone at my school is hooked up with someone, except me. =(
I think my anime fandom (I'm not even that big of an anime fan, only a few series) and my fierce Nintendo fanboyism qualify me as being a nerd, at least where I'm from. Also, in Grade 8 and early Grade 9 I would play Yu-Gi-Oh inside a classroom every lunch. I must admit, that was pretty bad. Thankfully I stopped doing that. Plus, I'm still a Pokemon fan. Not of the cards, or the show, just the games. I guess that isn't so bad.
Theres nothing nerdy about Yu-Gi-Oh at my school it's actually pretty popular theres 5 people on our basketball team that plays it. Talk about breaking stereo types.

Amen. Being's a nerd is fun. We can do whatever we want and not care what others think.
