Final Fantasy XVI officially revealed .
Final Fantasy XVI

So technology hit a ceiling for the forseeable future? Considering that this doesn't look better than what we have right now? Or what exactly is the progress on the next gen Playstation? Space?
-
With how awesome FF14 been I'm super hyped for FF16!
-
Man. I've been done with the franchise for a while but that trailer kinda hits all my buttons.

There's more texture and details in the backdrops and lighting and particle effects and such, in-game graphics are getting closer and closer to what could only be done in cinemas before, but no, there's not likely to be any significantly huge leaps ever again. Already from PS3 to PS4 it was relatively minor. Like yeah if you compared screenshtos side by side you could see a difference because one would have more plants the other or something, but nothing huge.
The big change on this one is pure loading speed, which isn't an obvious sell, but it means instant warping to new locations and reloading when you die and its whats allowing Ratchet and Clank to shift between worlds seamlessly. It's a pretty cool but easily missed thing.
-
For a moment there, with the setting and combat camera angle I got a nice Vagrant Story vibe out of it. Hope they add more tactics to the battles in that manner. Too many times while playing FF15 I found myself imagining how awesome it would be if you could play it turn based, while moving characters around like in Tactics.
Here's to hoping that the fact a dude from DMC 5 is working on combat mechanics doesn't mean it will be plain real time action.

No this seems super important, thanks for pointing it out. Mainly because I do have somewhat high hopes for the FF7 remake providing a proper open world experience, where the transition between zones has to feel as seamless as possible.
-
for those who haven't played XIV, members of that team–especially Yoshida--being involved is a very, very, very, very good sign.
-
Hope you guys like summons cause they seem to be the main focus of the games
-
What do you guys think of the new final fantasy game brining the series back to its roots with a medieval fantasy setting?
-
I don’t think taking it back to a medieval setting is the thing that people are the most interested in.
But whether it will be turned based or action RPG with the latter appearing likely.
-
I ripped the FF16 out of the general thread to grow it out. Game is out Summer 2023!
In case people missed it, a new trailer dropped a few days ago.
The official site updated with new info on the Dominants for Bahamut and Odin.

-
The music gave me hype chills in the part where we see the half transformations of the dominants.
-
Is this the first non-MMORPG Final Fantasy not to have a party?
-
I think it’s high time we stopped using Roman numerals to designate what number of Final Fantasy we’re talking about. I literally had to checked both separate threads to check which thread was which.
-
I look forward to the next King of Fighters game so we can have KoF XIV, KoF XV, and KoF XVI threads running at the same time too
-
Damn .
-
I'm so incredibly hyped for this game. It feels like a good and proper return to the FFTactics/FF12 style of FF with an insanely good hook (Attack on Summons), and production values out of this world. The presentation and pedigree on display has been nothing short of breathtaking. I want it yesterday. :V
-
Huge interview, I have to give it a read later in the day. A couple of other places report that the game won't have any secret eikons and the game is 95% done.

That response to the question about representation is a little bit yikes, if only because people are obviously going to take Yoshida's comments in bad faith on both fronts. It's a disappointing answer to be sure, and almost validates the opinions of a whole subsect of "fantasy fans" who get mad and cry woke if a fantasy show even dares to have a person of color in it.
-
Just saw ANN post about this section of the interview as its headline. I'm more annoyed that all this feels like a lose-lose situation when a question like this gets asked.
-

Interviews have already confirmed a December release date trailer, but this suggests it may very well be at the Game Awards. That does feel like a no-brainer, but there's also a big FF 35th Anniversary event planned on December 18th, so it's likely an either-or situation. Either way, we'll be eating good next month.
-
This reminds me a lot of Attack On Titan
-
@Shiebs That's a bit reductive.
It's also apparently Attack on Garuda, Attack on Odin, and Attack on Bahamut. -

Game Awards appearance essentially confirmed with a release date announcement extremely likely. -
Ok, so from what I have gathered, it's only one character and is a more fast-paced action game with RPG elements, like say a God of War kind of gameplay?
-
That's what we've seen, but Yoshida has stated on several occasions that Clive will have allies and will rarely be alone. I imagine you'll have an AI-controlled party, or at the very least a rotating roster of guests. There's a shot in Trailer 2 for instance, that implies you'll fight alongside Shiva's Dominant, since somebody's summoning or using Shiva against an enemy that isn't Shiva and it's clearly not Clive in that moment.
But it would be fair and probably accurate to say it's a fast-paced Devil May Cry-style action game. It's just, we've seen less than 2-3 minutes of gameplay footage, and most of what we HAVE seen was in the 2020 middle of development trailer or eikon battle footage.
-
I hope we get a trailer at the game awards
-
With the Yoshi-P involvement and literally nothing for FF14 to put on that scale (unless they reveal 7.0 which would be wildly out of character for SE and the promotion circuit in general) it's all but given. I was hoping for 7R2 stuff but that makes no sense with Yoshi-P.
-
-
That was everything, at least all of my major grievances. Traveling companions. Chocobos. Exploration. Dog petting. Clive seems like an active protagonist. Now they just gotta stick the landing.
-
Two questions, how many Summons/Dominants/Eikons are there in this game? And will it be available for the PS4
-
@Shiebs It's been suggested in interviews that there won't be any secret eikons, but whether additional eikons play a part in the story remains to be seen.
And no, it will not be available for PS4, it seems to be strictly PS5. I can't imagine them getting away with this level of visual insanity while still being on the PS4.
-
Back when FF7R got a release date, I was really hoping for a FF-themed PS4 Pro that I'd transition to. I'm holding back on a PS5 because I want the revision, so I'm also on high copium for a FF-themed PS5 slim/pro by the time 16 is out...
-
Do you think the new Final Fantasy 16 Characters could make it into the next Kingdom Hearts game? Or no because the game has a mature rating?
-
I don't think a Mature rating would stop it so much as KH's general total disregard for including more FF content would.
Plus Nomura isn't really involved with this game, so I doubt he'd pull in someone like Clive over Lightning or Noctis.
-
@Kitsune-Inferno it’s kind of weird that they stopped using Final Fantasy characters as much, isn’t a lot of the appeal the mixture of Disney and Final Fantasy?
-
Heh, I just realized the concept of the Dominants is really similar to the Jinchuriki from Naruto.

Or the 9 special Titans from Attack On Titan
-
What are the chances that despite all the talent behind this video game that it doesn’t live up to the hype?
-
Given the divisive reception of the last 2 games?
Pretty substantial.
-
@Time-Control-Magician The original FFXIV was a flop, but A Realm Reborn has become one of the most successful MMORPG's around.

And aren’t most of the people responsible for making it the success it’s become also part of the new final fantasy 16 project, along with a lot of other really talented individuals like the combat designer from devil may cry 5 and others?
I just remember hearing people say this games developers are stacked

Was referring to 13 and 15.
-
It's here! (spoilers)
-
What do you guys think? Does it look good?
-
It looks good but I don't want real time combat in Final Fantasy. There's other franchises for that. Gimme that turn based planning.
Dragon Age is abandoning the thoughtful combat for more GoW style fighting as well.
And you can't control your party? Just swapping on the one character? I'm sure that's engaging and all but...
I guess there's always Persona 9 and Dragon Quest 18 when those come along.
-
You bring a Devil May Cry combat director to improve the combat from FF15 and said combat director basically copy-pastes the combat, what with style switching and all. But it just ends up reminding me of Genshin Impact, with how cluttered the display is with info.
I actually didn't mind the combat in FF15 that much. It needed some fine touches on how Noctis fights and moves, yes, but more than that, it needed more options for the party. Loved giving the boys orders. If they actually bothered to make the combat more tactical, they could have done wonders with it. I mean the groundwork was laid out. You had different terrain, obstacles, elevations, depressions. You had enemies of different sizes with different move sets, enemies that flied. You could target individual parts of the enemy to produce higher damage or different effects. All it needed is an option to position your team and give them couple more orders.
That and a magic system that wasn't an afterthought and a pain in the ass to set up.
But instead of improving the existing system and setting a new standard for the franchise, they pull a 180 and go full in action. No party, just followers. I mean I won't pretend I won't try it, once it gets ported to PC, but it doesn't feel like Final Fantasy, at all.
-
I wonder how the change in gameplay will effect the reviews, seems like people are already divided on it, possibly splitting the fanbase in two
-
They want to bring n new young players and not just old players. Which I understand, and maybe it'll play great and be super fun.... I love the Souls games and enjoy Monster Hunter and liked Horizon and I'm fine with real time action combat...
but my wife isn't going to enjoy it at all and she loves FF. But it does not love her.
-
I recall some interview (FF7R maybe?) where they wanted to do turn-based for a game, but like Robby said the demand for actiony gameplay is what the youngins want now. Do turn-based and the franchise probably gets called out in interviews for going backwards and being outdated or something.
I think DQ11 was quite successful regardless of these criticisms, but even DQ12 is apparently moving away from it while keeping the same spirit, so maybe we'll see what FF could've been. And if not, well I guess that's what Bravely/Octopath are there for to scratch that itch.
