@Gizmo Jesus Christ. This is just absolutely terrible news. I can only hope that James makes a full physical recovery soon and...man, just my biggest condolences to him and his friends and family. Just awful.
-
Oh my God, that's absolutely awful!! I hope he pulls through. What a horrible thing to happen to anybody, let alone to people this young. My condolences to the friends and families of those who died!

This is a really fascinating look into Ghost Kitchens, something I've had to deal with before when doing Door Dash. I remember having no idea what the fuck a 'MrBeast Burger' was when I had to deliver one and low-and-behold the GPS led me to a fucking Red Robin for pick-up.

Escapist (or rather, Gamurs), foolishly, FOOLISHLY, fired several of its members, including EIC Nick Calandra. Result? Pretty much all of its video department resigned in fidelity to him, including dundunduuuuun Yahtzee Croshaw, aka Zero Punctuation.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2023/11/08/zero-punctuation-ends-as-the-escapist-faces-mass-resignations-after-eic-firing/?sh=25bf87089be3Obviously this doesn't mean Yahtzee is gone forever, as Calandra already is putting together something new. (or was that the plan all along?)
-
Can Escapist even continue without Zero Punctuation? That seemed to be their main draw.
-
I doubt it. And it wasn't just Yahtzee, it was the (almost) whole video department. They're still releasing articles, but no vids is no good for them.

@Nobodyman I haven't watched them in a while but isn't Dan in like ... 4 bands by now? Arin also seems to have enough stuff to do with his company. I wonder if the tipping point would be if one of them got a child ... it would be a bummer but i also wouldn't be surprised.
Since were on the topic, were there any outstanding series by them during the last year? Except for Zelda, i still have to play that one ...
-
@Neaeran There's definitely been some changes in the past few years, what with them only doing video games six times a week and doing Power Hour on Mondays. Plus, it just hasn't been the same for me since they switched from 10-15 minute episodes to half hour episodes and started focusing more on one-shot episodes.
As for the standout series of 2023, it's a lot to go through and remember, but, aside form TotK, they also did a Sonic Frontiers playthrough, which of course Sonic is always fun.
They also started a bunch of playthroughs of the Humongous Entertainment kids' point-and-click games, like Putt-Putt and Pajama Sam, which are just really pleasant fun watches.
And of course any time they play Monolopy or Wheel of Fortune or Mario Party is always great (they finally played Mario Party 3!)

And we have another youtube retirement! This time, Fact Fiend!
I'm okay with this one. He was clearly burned out and not having fun anymore and just regurgitating stuff he'd already done... having other people with way less camera chemistry do videos... and they weren't even editing videos anymore, they were just letting them run as raw 30 minute off tangent rambles that barely discuss the topic... when they used to be a tight 10-15 minutes with some off topic rambling because they would actually edit.
I was a fan for a long time but have barely watched his videos this last year.
Seems like I'm not the only one, the videos used to hit 70k-200k views defending on the topic, almost nothing in the last year has gone past 20K-30K. I know some of that is that videos that have been around longer have more time to be watched obviously, but its a huge falloff from what it was.

So I've been binging AntsCanada lately. I have never cared about ants in my life, but he's got such an upbeat positive narration style, and he knows how to string together a narrative with hooks and cliffhangers and music choices and education and giving thins personalities and its just hypnotic. He's got a decade of weekly videos of building elaborate ant farms and of ANTS doing ANT THINGS and I've watched many, many, many hours of it now. The little families, different varieties, the eggs and brood laying, and it's just... super watchable. I don't even like ants!
A few months ago he built a GIANT vivarium and populated it full of stuff and it's just been fascinating to watch. Wars, life, death, spiders, lizards, all sorts of things, and it's become one of my appointment viewings when new ones pop up.

Lindsay Ellis finally puts one of her Nebula videos on Youtube. Nearly 2 hour thing on the Beatles... that turns into an essay about women being abused by media. Stating with Yoko Ono as the centerpoint, and about murder in the name of fame, and suicide. (Kennedy, Kirk Cobain, and others come up.) On my account at least youtube even threw up a suicide hotline number in case I was watching this to be depressed or inspired or something, so...
Also maybe I'm reading too much inbetween the lines, but in the final denountment, where she's talking about how Yoko got kicked down and abused but still got up and keeps making art and trying to make the world better... might be talking a bit about Lindsay herself?
Maybe it's just because its her first youtube video in over 2 years that I'm reading that into it. But you don't do a 2 hour essay on this sort of thing unless its inspiring to you.

It poped up on my youtube and I just watched it. It was a great video
