He doesn't have the chain jail, sure, but the dowsing chain can still be used offensively, judgment chain can be used if he's in an emotionally charged state, and we still don't know what his pinky finger does.
Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes

I hope this will be like the Cruise ship arc (Titanic & Zombies) in Black Butler. Sheer utter chaos erupting and massive death.

No he's not. That chapter was 90% done by assistants. Togashi pretty much just drew the announcer guys at the start, Kurapika's head, and a couple other faces. Maybe he doodled layouts.
Before Togashi's recent return, I have reread the series. And after paying more attention to his art than I usually would, I can't make these sort of statements as confidently as you do.
First, backgrounds. Togashi is inconsistent about their quantity, but quite consistent about their quality. That means the change in the background art is easy to notice. It becomes most apparent after volume 30 - there is suddenly more of them compared the previous Chimera Ant arc, and they are much more detailed. The cityscapes and interiers look very similar to Yorknew. But the most telling are his forest backgrounds. The trees, espescially the trunks, were always the same from chapter one to Greed island and until the Election arc. Then the trees suddenly changed and became completely different. Seeing how hard the new backgrounds try to imitate Yorknew backgrounds, and also due to the sharpness and amount of detail, I thinks it is more likely they are digitally drawn, even heavily filtered photos.
Big faceless crowds have changed in the same manner compared to everything until Election arc, now they are sharper and very detailed. But small crowds with character faces drawn actually look similar to Chimera arc art. And pairs or trios have a completely new look to them. This is definitely handled by different artists.
Screentones aren't actually that rare in this manga. Heaven's Arena, late Greed Island and early Chimera Ant arcs lack them, but the rest use them not as sparingly. However, the quality changes from volume 30 and is very apparent in recent volume 33. Again, it looks very much like digital art.
And character art. There are around three stages of how completely Togashi's character is drawn. First is the rough sketch - lots of repeating thin lines, often unconnected. That is Kurapica in this chapter. Second is the simple lineart - mostly the same lines with little weight variety around the edges of the silhouette. Most princes are drawn this way in the chapter. And the third, complete stage that is probably his most iconic look dating back to Yu Yu Hakusho - with very varied line weight, especially noticeable around the face and clothes, with screentones and blacks filled in. Only the king and announcers look like that in this chapter. I don't like to admit it, but Togashi is a very experinced and versatile artist. And that experience has tought him which corners are best to cut. So most characters are drawn only up to the second stage. This certainly can be accomplished by a good assisstant - but there are details like mouths and noses which are strikingly the same as they were when the art was at its worst minimum which was Togashi's own in late Greed Island and early Chimera Ant arcs.
There. I don't see the assisstant work in mainish character art, but the static and dynamic backgrounds have changed. Also, maybe digital art. That's about it.
However, Togashi basically hires some assistants. He goes so far as to give his assistants a special guidebook which introduces all his manga techniques. Togashi made this guidebook so that his assistants won't lose their jobs when he retires from drawing manga.

Thank you. This certainly explains the background art consistency, and maybe even more. Finally something more solid then rumours and guesswork. Too bad that Hetappi Manga Kenkyujo R will always remain that cool insider book that will never be translated.

As a long date Togashi fan, and by that I mean my early childhood from when I first encounterd YYH I been a fan. I personally don't care for his flaws, I belive his a far too good storyteller to be bother by it, but I understand does who complain, the art is inconsistent, the abuses the text exposition and don't get me started on the hiatus. I'm just glad, if all this assitants talk is real, that he found a way of connecting consitent art with his storytell. I have great expectations about this arc, and I hope he will keep piblishing till the end of th year.

Pinky finger is judgement chain. Ring finger is the last unknown chain.
Didn't the game stop functioning after Gon cleared it?
No, the game should still work.
One of the Chairman candidates in the Election arc was on the island and was asking Ging to trade for an in-game item.
-
Pinky finger is judgement chain. Ring finger is the last unknown chain.
Righto. Arbiter little finger. Forgot about that.
-
He also has Emperor Time.

Probably the statement comes from this interview.

Do we know who any of Togashi's former assistants were?

Pinky finger is judgement chain. Ring finger is the last unknown chain.
Actually, the unknown one is the index.
Thumb: Healing
Index: ???
Middle: Jail
Ring: Dowsing
Pinky: Judgement -
So, are we gonna make a poll. "Which prince will die first " or "Which prince will survive ?"
Or is that too soon ? I think it's too soon.
So, correct me if I'm wrong but the guard explanation of the security conditions made clear that the military that should watch the prince deathmatch from outside are actually sided with prince Benjamin and waiting for his order to move? Seens like unfair to the other princes, but who cares, aparelently not the king.
Nah, I don't think they are.
Though I didn't understand what he meant by " till then we're not soldiers but guards", does he mean bodyguards or guard in the military ?But however, here's what it could be.
These guys are Benjamin's soldiers. Tserriednich talked about them when he was in his apartment. http://www.mangareader.net/hunter-x-hunter/348/11
So, none of them are hunters. I don't think it's explained, but the Hunter Association has probably forced everyone that wanted to be a bodyguard to be a hunter.
All Kurapika's friends that are now bodyguard are hunters.
-Izunabi
-Biscuit
-Basho
-Senritsu ( Melody )
-HanzoThey are all hunters.
So, these guys are probably hiding - and as their chief said, maybe they will during all the trip - because they aren't hunters.
Tyson's guards are probably in the same situation in view of they didn't show up at the exam. So they're probably hiding too or whatever.
As for Luzoor, his soldiers all failed the exam, so he has probably something up his sleeve too.
Another thing we have not considered. Mothers, we just know Oito, however, we can assume that they will take part in the war of succession too. Benjamin and Tserriednich have the same mother !
-
If Togashi decides to go to Hiatus in this arc…It will be so fitting.
-
If it's mainly the assistants drawing now and he provides the story then it is exactly what I wanted. If it actually means that he isn't stressed out all the time drawing and can continue running the manga without a hiatus.
And on top of that, even if they don't try to mimick his style as close as possible who cares, I want such detailed and well drawn chapters on a weekly basis. ;)

I'm just wondering why Kurapika thinks of himself as useless against non spiders combat wise, Emperor Time can be pretty broken when you play around with it a bit. He is able to combine two minor hatsus, or three, and utilize them both at 100%
Step one: Emit nen (emission)
Step 2: Transform nen to have razor sharp quality (transformation)
Step 4: fire off a shower of razor sharp nen. (emission)
Or something like that. What's stopping Kurapika from making a combination like that?

emperor time is actually not as broken as you think it is. iirc he can't keep it active for a long time (im not sure about that tho) and it doesn't give him 100 control over other nen types.
if my memory serves me it only makes him better with other nen types only if his skills in nen are already maxed out without it, and even then he wouldn't be 100% at all of them.
so if he's maxed out in his own nen type, he would get a boost on all of the other nen types depending on how close they're to it. the emission type for example would get just a 40% boost because it's on the opposite side of his nen type.
so it's just slightly better than someone normally training himself in other nen types like kastro. -

so it's just slightly better than someone normally training himself in other nen types like kastro. It's kinda like a level system. I always got it mixed up, maybe I get it right this time around. So let's say there are 10 levels for each nen type. Kurapika as a Conjurer can reach level 10 for the Conjuerer type. However, as we know, no one can master all nen types to level 10, it would hinder (like Kastro) their own development too much. It's supposed to be a spread. So the maximum level Kurapika could ever reach in Emission is level 4. So far, nothing is different to the other nen users. When activating Emperor Time he can use each nen category as it were his type. However, he cannot exceed the maximum level for that category.
To sum up, during Emperor time, Kurapika is able to use his other nen types like it were his own, given them 100% output. So during normal Kurapika, he is a level 4 emission type and has about 40% control, when he activates Emperor time, his control goes to 100% but he is still a level 4. You could say his nen flows better for the category. Now it would be pretty interesting, how much he could develop if he were to train during emperor time those nen types when he practices them, and if by doing this, he could reach mid-tier to high level techniques for those other nen categories.
I'm too lazy to find the chapter

He still needs to train those hatsus. It's not as easy as you seem to think. It's not because he has the potential to max out the power of each nen that he doesn't need to take the time to train them.
When he healed his broken arm he used one of his chains, so even if he needed a strong reinforcement nen to heal his arm that quick it was still linked with his main hatsu and ability of his chain.

I never liked the sudden start to the Hisoka Vs Chrollo fight, it felt anticlimactic as hell and out of place, like togashi just wanted to get it over with before the Dark Continent. However, on a second read when you know this is just the beginning for a new arc for Hisoka its much better.
I never realised how much can context change my enjoyment of a fight until now.
-
I have reread the Chrollo vs Hisoka battle with Viz translations and even with that can't shake off the mixed feelings from it. Such a supposedly exiting character collision and yet the most of excitement comes from what its result can bring in the future. The fight is so weirdly unbalanced. Barely any introduction to it. Almost three chapters are spent on either explaining Chrollo's abilities or Hisoka trying to figure them out - which doesn't have as much impact on the result of the fight as that might imply. The action itself is fine and well done which is pretty much a given for Togashi, but Chrollo's new abilities aren't exactly interactive and Hisoka shows only one new technique. And even if the finish is both fun and promising, it could use a little more explanation from someone who loves to narrate useless minutia in excruciating detail like Togashi.
But for what it is worth, this was okay. But it is disappointing to say something like that about a Chrollo vs Hisoka deathmatch. Hopefully Hisoka's hunt of the spiders and another round with their leader is more exciting than that.
-
The match was cool because we got to understand a little more about how Chrollo fights when he's trying to kill. His encounter with that assassin in Yorknew previewed it but the Hisoka fight confirmed it. He loves mentally toying with his opponents before killing them. The Hisoka match was little more than a game to him; you can clearly see Chrollo's amusement during the fight–which he rigged to be unfair and more of an assassination than a fight.
The rematch will be the physical collision Hisoka desires.

Is the baby going to be the first target? I think that the aura was his, maybe the attack is already set in motion. One of the princes is expecting some of them to die, so not all of them have to be important. As long as Bisky is safe.

That aura was her Nen beast hatching.
-
That aura was her Nen beast hatching.
Yeah, I said that. I am just wondering how many will die before sunday dinner.
-
I am more interested in the Saiyuu situation than this Battle Royale.
-
The funny thing is Queen Oito said that the royalty can't simply go around killing in the open but to do it quietly. They have to keep up the persona around the guest and attend the dinners. This is to prevent chaos.
But the moment when one of the prince dies, chaos will ensure. And if they keep dying consecutive, somebody is going to suspect something.
They might as well start killing each other even before the official departure dinner start.lol -
Can't wait to see the baby murdering everyone. It shall be glorious.
-
Just don't do it with another Boob Monster Stand.
-
What? The Boob Monster Stand was the best part.
-
Not sure if Togashi can do worse than titvag monster, but I wouldn't want to imagine it for too long.

Below is a short summary of the next chapter from 2ch.
! - Kacho turns out to be a wicked person. She intends to kill other Princes with the help of Fugetsu.
! - Kurapika finds some bodyguards are dead due to being sucked blood. Their bodies are full of holes.
! - He is going to ask some questions to hunters. If they tell a lie, Kurapika's chain will react and Kurapika will shoot a gun to them. -
! I literally don't know which prince is that. Had to look it up. It's the twins girl with the short dark & light hair. 10th & 11th.
Shouldn't be suprised most of the princes are evil asshole. Geez is any of them nice people? -
Full Summary
! So the ship left port. A female staff member explains that in 2 months they'll reach the dark continent. They'll travel 3 weeks in waters where humans fish/navigate, then enter uncharted waters, which are very dangerous because of storms and such. In a room, Gel /Cluck/ Pyon/ Ginta of the Zodiac (dunno the usual spelling) and the female doctor that appeared in the election arc are talking.
! While the Kakin royals and normal travellers will get off at the dark continent, they will board Morau's ship and go to a gate where a gatekeeper is waiting. They'll build a checkpoint on a small island on the way, where Nov will manage people and goods' traffic. Tokyarine will handle the traffic from the continent to that island. Tokyarine (short thick woman with bob hair) asks for more people to help because her ability's not as good as Nov. Gel says they're searching but it's not easy.
! First floor, Biondo's cell. Kanzai, Sancho and Sayuu are watching over him. They discuss that putting 3 people to guard one guy is too much. That glasses guy (?) is studying new world documents in his room
! Two of his colleagues make fun of him for reading that again, as he should have memorized it already. But he urges them to read the chapter about the maze city where they're heading. It's not official, but apparently the International Travel Permission Bureau's head is one of the "sole survivors".
! And glasses guy is living proof of Biondo's results, so he's not in danger of dying.3rd floor, infirmary, Cheadle and Leorio are in a hurry. They're arranging medicines and stuff for the staff. 4th floor, Royal army conference room. Mizai and military people are in a briefing3rd floor, central court. Bodobai trial in progress.1st floor, boys' toilet. Kurapika has a corpse from which all blood was removed in front of him.
! Black clothes (?) says it's Woody, he found him like this when he went looking for him. The stall wasn't locked, he died between 12:15 and 12:30. No traces of the killer, which must be someone in the area. Kurapika objects and takes off the corpse's clothes, which is riddled with tiny holes. Kurapika thinks the killer used Nen, and asks black clothes to speak up if there are nen users among them, but he seems to no even know what nen is.
! Kurapika orders for the corpse to be given to the royal army. He asks the hunters behind him why they didn't speak about their nen ability, but they answer back that their duty is just protecting the queen and prince, and this murder is just trouble within the army, and they don't want to get involved. Kurapika is surprised that they weren't informed of the succession conflict.
! The hunters applied for this job but didnt meet the queen, so they don't know anything apparently.1st floor ceremony venue - Black clothes announces the queen will now leave the room. Benjamin thinks that the departure ceremony was a 14-battle royale, and swears that as first prince he isn't going to let anyone else get the throne. Kacho and Fuugetsu try to to leave together, saying thay have stuff to talk about.
! Kacho whispers that they'll only collaborate to kill all the other princes. Once only the 2 of them remain, she (?) will ask the king (dad) to not let Fugetsu die, and to keep their friendly act in front of the cameras.
! Senritsu heard it all and is kind of shocked. Back to Kurapika. 4 guards are dead, blood sucked out. Kurapika materializes his chain and has a gun. He points it at the hunters and says; "I'm going to tell you everything I know now, and ask some questions. If anyone lies, the chain spins, if the chain spins, I shoot!"
! Next week, the game (killing) starts with the ship's departure horn! -
Thanks for the spoilers, Sandman and YonkouProductions!
! No doubt the individual sucking the guards' blood is Shizuku.
"If anyone lies, the chain spins, if the chain spins, I shoot!" Damn it, Kurapika! -
Thanks for the spoilers, Sandman and YonkouProductions!
! No doubt the individual sucking the guards' blood is Shizuku.
"If anyone lies, the chain spins, if the chain spins, I shoot!" Damn it, Kurapika!! can't be, if the objective was to scare, she would leave the blood, and if it was to kill she would take the body, once dead she can absorb them as well.
-
! can't be, if the objective was to scare, she would leave the blood
! You think? I'd find it way more terrifying for bodyguards to see that the blood entirely disappeared. It would make them think that they're fighting against forces that can't handle, thus causing panic. Look at how Kurapika reacted. He took greater precautions because he knows he has to handle with someone able to use Nen.
I find this coherent since the Phantom Troupe is supposedly setting sail to the Dark Continent too. -
! Some mob boss Kurapika action, great! Trouble for the Zodiacs, great! Some cute girls being revelad terrible vicious, great again. This boat ride is gonna be good.
-
! This is getting good.

It has begun…
-
Got a feeling senritsu is talking about the other sister instead of Kacho. Kacho just seem like a spoiled brat but ultimately cares for her sister. It's always the quiet one to watch out for. Her sister is plotting to murder her twin, isn't she?
I think it's the baby nen guardian that is causing the dried up corpses problem. While the baby was not in the room, the nen guardian could have roam around killing the guards. -
I hope Morel decides to tag along.
-
Was that Leorio with Cheadle?
-
At least the time isn't being wasted on more set up. I like it.
-
This will be a loooong boat voyage. I hope not as much as Berserk.
-
wow, this is going to get more intriguing than expected…Togashi now has so much material to work with and the story is going to be darker than ever. BTW, do you think Ging, Pariston and the others from Beyond's group are on that ship?
-
Guessing Gon isn't the main character anymore? Pika is the only one who seems to have any relevance still.
-
wow, this is going to get more intriguing than expected…Togashi now has so much material to work with and the story is going to be darker than ever. BTW, do you think Ging, Pariston and the others from Beyond's group are on that ship?
I believe everyone that is going to the DC is in that ship even the Phantom Troupe. In other words, Hisoka is pretty much targeting the Spiders inside there as well. Gosh, this might be the second time I see an entire arc this big inside a ship.
-
Was that Shizukus doing what she did to those bodguards?
What are the odds Kurapika goes full rage mode again once he sees the Troupe?
Poor Senritsu, having taking care of that bitch Kacho.
-
I think it's the baby nen guardian that is causing the dried up corpses problem. While the baby was not in the room, the nen guardian could have roam around killing the guards.
Looks like it because those guards that were killed might have been double agents. Add in also the fact that nen beasts produced by the pot are supposedly based on the person's likeness. Like for instance, the King's guardian looks like a mosaic of tits and a vag for a mouth because of his lustful nature. If the same were applied to the baby, sucking someone dry to feed itself can still be attributed to the baby.
But the holes in the bodies still puts me off though.
-
Didn't even remember most people would stay at the fake Dark Continent. Or is that news to us too?
