@RJ:
I REAAAAAAALLLY wish that the anime would cut the bad out-of-place fillers out. That shit actually ruins the experience of the show, and it's a pain to have to KEEP explaining to anime-only watchers how the Luffy in the Anime is not the same Luffy from the Manga. Seriously, the filler Flanderizes the guy so badly it's disgusting. What we get is a dumbed-down version of Luffy from episode 3 engaging in "LOLRANDOM!!" behavior when he's supposed to be asleep at the beginning of the episode. Which is severely out of place in a stealth mission.
This doesnt happen in the manga, and the filler makes Luffy look absolutely retarded. It's actually vomit inducing when the staff does this. (like that one time during Zou with the bridge). What's so bad about it is how blatantly it retrogresses Luffy's character. In the Manga Luffy has actually developed, It's a slow burn, but it is there. Especially after him not being reliable or strong destroyed his crew and killed his brother (in his eyes); so to see him here doing shit he would have done in the east blue is absolutely absurd.
What Luffy did in this episode was nothing different from his behavior in Ch. 863 Page 11 indeed. Also don't forget that in this arc he even ate the poisonous fish although Chopper had already warned him.
Oda has skipped and omitted a lof of scenes nowadays, and he confirmed it in One Piece Magazine Vol.1. One cannot say something didn't happen in the manga just because Oda didn't draw it there. Additionally, not only does the editor in Shueisha check the scripts, but Oda shared his notes with the anime staff in this arc. There are also contacts between the staff and Oda himself.
