This thread is a general purpose thread that will serve a few purposes for new players and old alike.

Mafia Planning

The primary purpose of this thread will be to help organize and plan Mafia games. Because Mafia games are large and sometimes demanding, we ask and require that only one Mafia game be going at a time. If you wish to host a Mafia game, please use this thread to request a spot on the following queue. Once the current game of Mafia ends, this thread will be updated, and the next player on the queue will be allowed to start their thread once they are ready.

Ask for a spot and we'll normally grant it to you. If however, this is your first time Hosting a Mafia game, then we strongly recommend you link up with a Co-Host. Just ask for one in this thread, and one of the veterans will usually be happy to help! Just don't like ask to host then disappear into the ether or anything.

Mafia Primer

The rest of this thread shall serve as an informational guide for all things Mafia! If you're new to the concept, be sure to read the great things in this thread. And if you're not new, you might learn a thing or two!

Mafia games (sometimes known as Werewolf) are played over the course of several days. Before the game starts, players are generally PMed by the Game Host with information about the game and a designated role. Usually, this boils down to Town or Mafia. Each Night, the Mafia Night Kills a player, eliminating them from the game. Then the following Day, players will deliberate publicly in an attempt to find the culprits. If you are aligned with the Town, your goal is to track down the Mafia and eliminate them from the game, usually through a community Lynch during the Day, until all Mafia members are removed from the game. If you are aligned with the Mafia, your goal is to eliminate as many players from the game, using any means necessary, (removing players with a Night Kill, manipulating the community into Lynching a member of the Town, etc.), in order to reach a functional majority. Pretty simple, right?

Well, half the fun comes from the various ways the basic format can be twisted. Sometimes, players will be assigned Night Actions, which can let them investigate the alignment of another player or allow them to protect a player from Night Kills. Some Night Actions can even be Night Kills themselves! Also, sometimes there are multiple Mafias, or Third-Parties with their own agendas. Or sometimes the Town is a Spaceship and the Mafia are Aliens. There are myriad ways the game can be played, and it's all the Game Host's job to design the game and present it to the players interested. Sometimes, it's really fun, and sometimes, the Game Host accidentally gives the Mafia unlimited power and breaks the game. But, you never know what will happen! And half the fun is having fun.

Mafia Legacy

Mafia games have taken place on Arlong Park since the summer of 2010, and since that is a very long time with a lot of games played (54, in fact!), Femme, Vorlianis, and Wooden_Giraffe went all out in providing us a comprehensive guide to every game of Mafia played on Arlong Park. Mafia Threads

This is a small informational primer for creating and maintaining a successful Mafia Game thread.

Clearly define your rules and relevant setup information in the opening post. For a template, refer to the linked posts in the Legacy threads above to past games, especially the earlier numbered ones which usually began with detailed informational posts. If you are doing an Open setup, detail all the relevant info in the opening post.
Once the previous game ends or reaches a point where you can satisfactorily open Sign-Ups (a good courtesy would be to ask the current Game Host for permission), you may create your new thread. Make sure to clearly set a deadline for Sign-Ups and establish whether or not you need a set number of players.
Once the game starts, be sure to link to the Game Start post in the opening post. It would be even more helpful to edit the opening post as the game progresses with links to Day Starts and Night Starts as well, and maybe even use the opening post as a summary of game events so that way people reading the post in the future can quickly and efficiently navigate the entire game.
In the past, Game Hosts have written up flavor text for their games, so if that's something you wish to do, that's totally your prerogative. Have fun with it!
It's highly recommended that you set up a QuickTopic thread for Mafia discussion and Graveyard discussion (after players are eliminated). You can set them up here quickly and easily: https://quicktopic.com/ Just make sure only the relevant players have access to them. Once the game ends, add links to them in your opening post.
Once the game has ended, and the winners have been decided, please let a mod know so they can Close your thread after a day or so. No need to have old games get bumped all the time!

If you have any questions on this subject, don't hesitate to ask here! I'm always open for helping create really good opening threads, and some of our more experienced players could help too if you ask!

Mafia Minis

A Mafia Mini is a small scale Mafia game that takes place over a relatively short period of time as a buffer between larger games. They normally only last a day or two, or even only a few hours. There are a few rules regarding these, so pay special attention to them.

Only one Mafia Mini will be open at a time.
Mafia Minis will only be open in between larger games. For example, say Game 102 has a start date of March 6th, and Game 101 ends on February 27th. That means from February 27th to March 5th. Mafia Minis will be allowed to run.
Mafia Minis are first come, first serve, so if one isn't happening, feel free to start one as you see fit.
Be sure to allow sufficient time for the game so that it does not impede the start time of a game on the Mafia Game Queue. If the game starts tomorrow and you expect your Mini to last three days, please refrain from starting it.
To prevent clutter, Mafia Minis will be contained to a single dedicated Mafia Mini thread. Once one is created, I will link it here.

Mafia Minis are a great way for aspiring Game Hosts to get practice as well! Without all the fuss of hosting a larger game.

I'm often too busy too play, but easily available to co-host. Since foo winds up playing a ton of times I often keep up with the games anyway, so if anyone has their game ready to go but no one to support, just let me know.
