the screen is too obscure to be able to tell
So I've been watching the new episodes and on episode 472 they pronounced Akainu's name correctly
See Funimation listesns to THE FANS they fix it for THE FANS
Can anyone identify what episode is on the screen here or if it's possibly Film Gold?
Well she's talking about Jason Douglas and he plays Aokiji/Kuzan and he isn't isn't in Gold so it's not that. And if it's One Piece related I'm not sure when Luci (Nami) would record close to Jason Douglas … unless someone is doing secondary characters. Might not be even be OP related
SOme people are even thinking it maybe Dragon Ball Super related
Did episodes up to 480 get released early on unofficial sites?

It's not, Christian would have been recording at OkraTron5000 instead of at FUNi if it was for Super because that's Sabat's recording studio.
My set arrived just now.
We cannot wait for you review of the DVD

Yep on Saturday they were
I got Season 8, Voyage 2 today and I just started it.
Amazon got Season 8, Voyage 2 for 28.79 right now. They also got Season 7, Voyage 6 for 27.49 and Season 8, Voyage 1 for 28.79. If you haven't got the three most recent sets yet, this is a good time to get them.
Going to marathon One Piece tonight now that I've finished Stranger Things (watch that on Netflix!); happy to always spend my birthday with One Piece.

Stranger Things is probably the BEST series I've ever watched on Netflix. Also, Happy Birthday!

Check out orange is the new black as well, And bojack horseman, those are also worth the time.
Btw does anyone have an eta on the next box set?

Theresa wants me to watch that show. BUT I THINK IT LOOKS SCARY.

Well you can knock out OP and DBZ. Jason is Aokiji but he isn't in Gold and he is the voice of Beerus but Luci doesn't surprisingly lend her voice to DBZ that I'm aware of.
At the same time there are new characters in both that we don't know the voices of yet.
My thoughts on the latest set….
The acting continues to be fantastic. It's really awesome to hear characters we don't get to see too often, like Doflamingo, Mihawk, Smoker, Garp, and Sengoku. Whitebeard really shines on this set. Some of the Supernovas get lines on this set as well.
One particular episode has FOUR screens worth of English cast credits, which is a new record for One Piece, and perhaps anime in general.
Akainu is pronounced correctly consistently, but they still pronounce Sakazuki wrong. I heard Vista pronounced differently in two different episodes. Sengoku is...kind of inbetween here.
The episode titles seem to be back to throwing an exclamation mark behind each sentence, so I'm wondering if that's a Toei thing since they're providing the translations. For some odd reason, the graphical "here's where everyone is now" map during the recaps do NOT have any subtitled translations on this set. As per episode 480's next episode preview, we will NOT be getting episode 481.
Not sure if this is some sort of religious censorship or not, but Sengoku's transformation is referred to in English as a "Golden Statue", while the subtitles use "Giant Buddha".
Episode 476 commentary features Jason Douglas (Aokiji) and Andrew Love (Akainu) talking about stuff. Neither of them know anything about One Piece or their characters (or even their ranks).
Episode 480 commentary features Brian Mathis (Garp) and Ed Blaylock (Sengoku), and as far as they're concerned, they're both Admirals. Mathis reveals that when he originally chose what voice for Garp to use, that it was difficult for him to perform consistently, and he didn't know Garp would be coming back so much, or that he'd have such a wide range of emotions to portray.
On a side note, I can't believe this set ends with Ace's rescue. I remember how long it took to get to this point watching the weekly simulcast all those years ago, but the entire arc seems to be breezing by on DVD.
As per episode 480's next episode preview, we will NOT be getting episode 481.
That seems like a dvd screw-up because on the app there's a 481 preview.
There is an episode 481 preview on the set. But 481 is an Marineford arc episode. I think you might have made an mistake and thinking of episode 492, which is the Toriko crossover episode.
Whoops, you're right. Thought the controversy was for this set.
The majority of the latest set is solid as usual. The first few episodes were pretty meh with Hancock's fantasies going on way too long (forgot about these scenes completely). My only real complaint for the dub is the background characters and the one-shot jokes they keep throwing in for no reason. Sometimes it's a bit amusing but other times it feels incredibly forced. At least the characters that matter continue to be handled well for the most part.

Whenever I read these reviews I think I'm paranoid that they'll be 4kids level puns. Are they just like random people using 1 liners to describe things.
Just a shot in the dark, but has there been any word on whether Amazon will ever be restocking the Collection Box 1 or was it just a limited "while supplies last" release? I remembered hearing they were out of stock quite a while back, but it appears they still are.
Can't even find it on ebay now…
Oh yeah, Whitebeard mentions the "Will of D" on this set. IINM, this is the first time it's been called that in the dub script. The one previous mention, by Dr. Kureha, was initially called the "Spirit of D".

Nope. Robin referred to it a such in the episode where Rayleigh recounts his final moments with Roger (episode 400, I think)

Not really into Bojack. Orange is fun, but House of Cards held first place regards netflix shows. Stranger Things is a good challenger to that, though.

Yeah. This arc is moving along quickly even though so many people complained about the pacing for this arc in particular. Guess this only reinforces that marathoning makes the show way better.

Yeah marathoning those make things much better, i wonder how many sets will Dressrosa take up lol
Not looking forward to that one. I love Punk Hazard, though, so that'll be a nice bit to enjoy before the endless Dressrosa shit.

But it is in english!!! Honestly if there's a bunch of characters with spanish accents that'll help me a lot. Besides if Fishman Island probably starts mid 2017, I dont think we'll get dressarosa until late 2019 at the earliest.

Not nearly that bad, lol. Just, off memory there were a few over the top reaction lines. Like when Mihawk used his sword to slice the iceberg one guy was like "A SWORD SHOULD NOT DO THAT!" This example isn't TOO bad though and isn't that different from the Japanese but I just feel like there were too many abridged series-like lines with the background characters. I can't think of the others off the top of my head but there were at least another handful of really lame one-liners that made me roll my eyes. See if this weren't in the middle of a war I wouldn't care as much since One Piece is also a comedy in some aspects. But the people in the background should be scared shitless, not cracking sarcastic jokes and poking fun at the situation. For those who have seen the set, did anyone else feel that way?
On the flip side, the way they handled Buggy, Mr. 3 and his followers were spot on.
Oh and I'm super looking forward to both Punk Hazard and Dressrosa. Dressrosa IS super long (longest arc in the series) but since there's so many characters I like and Doffy is a great antagonist seeing it in the dub will be fantastic. I don't hate Fishman island like some but I admit it'll be hard to get through a year of that first before we can get to Punk Hazard.
One thing I've noticed on these Marineford DVDs is the faster framerate. Is it an encoding thing or Toei being weird?

I think that beginning Marineford Toei changed the frame rate from 24 to 30, I need some clarification though.

I totally noticed the cliche lines. Just finished voyage one. Whitebeard, surprisingly, had most of them. "Don't come crying to me when you get a boo boo." "You can light the candles on my borthday cake! (To Akainu)" Probably more than that, but those two jump to mind.

The candles one was in the sub, funny how you guys don't seem to notice these things until the dub comes out.

Well, I never watched the subbed episodes for this arc. And I never blamed the dub for it, so hold your horses. All I said was that I noticed unusually cliche lines, too. Didn't blame anyone.

I never said you blamed the dub, you made that one up. I just said it was funny how no one ever notices these things until the dub comes out.
What was with the change of Mihawk calling Daz Bones by Mr. 1 in the dub? That was a bizarre change and one of the few dub ones that I did not like at all.

That's odd, since FUNi's been good at characters calling other characters by certain names.
^Not entirely; It certainly wouldn't be the first time they flubbed stuff like that. Vivi usually referred to Chopper as "Tony", but there were one or two instances she called him "Chopper". Despite the fact that Zoro never refers to Sanji by his actual name in the original he has a couple times in the dub. Back when Robin used to not refer to her friends by name and instead by their position in the crew (aside from Luffy sometimes) there were still instances they would have her refer to them by name in the dub.
Robin call luffy by names a few times in the JPN version.

I'm aware of that, hence why I put "(aside from Luffy sometimes)"

I knew that line was in the sub myself. Thing is, I find the line funny in both versions because of how serious Whitebeard is. It works because he's so badass he can crack jokes in battle.
The other dub improv lines just felt too "self-aware" for the situation. Like an abridged series making fun of itself.
The first two episodes from S8V3 are available to stream for subscribers on Funi's website.
Actually, you don't need to be a subscriber. 481 and 482 are free to watch.
So tempted to watch both episodes but considering how the second episode ends I'll probably wait.
I wished i would have waited but when it comes to dubbed One Piece i can't help myself, now i am in my feels again after watching that happen to my favorite character :(
