Alot of the One Piece sets are part of the Prime day sale.
-
does anyone think anything exciting will be revealed at the villains panel that supposed to be happening right now?
-
Doubt it, they just announced the voyage 11 streaming date and the “early one piece dub episode premiere” was… 1015. So… not a premiere.
-
Finally able to watch the newest batch. Really liking Yamato's VA when she's not being serious, and if this is still Travis Willingham as Ace, then I'm glad he's still doing this.
Who's voicing Kid Sabo in 1015?

Yeah, I think most of us feel the same about Yamato. The fake- deep/serious voice doesn’t land right, but the actress does a perfect job otherwise. Maybe if I had one other critique it’s that she fluctuates a little too wide from high pitched to deep. But honestly, I don’t think that’s necessarily bad—some people do have a wider range depending on the emotion of what they’re saying.

I’m always surprised to hear Travis return. Isn’t it breaking union contract to work on this non-union show? I wonder if he got special permissions or if he’s just not getting punished and getting lucky.
To be honest, Travis’ voice is perfect for Ace, but I’ve always felt his acting was a little too one-note, and I definitely felt that in these Yamato episodes.
Just watched 1017. Whew. Really surreal to finally have all the Ishitani episodes & the first Chansard cut dubbed. So exciting.
-
The not being credit thing probably helps, but he was already union back when he was soooo idk. Same goes for Matt Mercer.

I disagree with this. I think he sounds TOO old even Toshio Furukawa sounds younger despite being decades older than Travis. Travis' acting is what saves his performance.
-
As much as I love Travis as Ace, I won't lie... his voice for Ace is deeper than what I think it should be. As an alternative take on the character, it's certainly fine, but I've felt it's been too far on the deeper end ever since I first heard it in 2007.

You couldve said blu ray in the first sentence lol. Got me excited.
-
Lol, sorry about that.

Don’t be hasty now, haha. You should try rationing them. Really helps with that sting.
I don’t expect three weeks anymore. 4-6 weeks is the schedule now. They don’t seem to want to catch up fully and simuldub.
-
Who am I bear grylls?
-
No idea who that is.
-
The drinking his own pee wilderness survivor guy.

With Rightstuf no longer being a thing, where do you guys recommend I buy the dvds? Is it just on the Crunchyroll store?
There any better options?
-
@MugiwaraPatrick Amazon. I heard the CrunchyRoll store is pretty bad
-
I usually get the One Piece sets on Amazon. Since most of the time, it's pretty much how much that I would've have to bought them at Rightstuf.
-
@Blake-Bakes-Cakes Lol SungWon is still using your Cat Viper clip in his reel.
-
Dang, another week with no episodes. Hopefully next week.
-
@Zephray Im starting to think there will be no simuldub with how these releases have slowed up
-
Yeah, I think they’re just going to stay a few sets behind forever.
-
I know people are disappointed about no Simuldub but I think this is for the best. Then they can avoid any translation mistakes made by dubbing eps in a hurry.
-
I doubt there would be that many mistakes. Toei would still approve all scripts as usual, and our directors have been working on this show for a while now, so they know what to do.
-
Man, this is a long wait between sets, huh? Only have one episode left to ration. :/ Hopefully next week…
-
I think this is where we're going to be now. I do know the French are 20 ahead and we will pass them before Christmas unless they release more episodes, which they haven't done since July.
-
@Luffy_80 do you know what country the closest to Japan in terms of episodes
-
I'm pretty sure South Korea has a simuldub.
-
@Blake-Bakes-Cakes Oh yeah i remember hearing about that years ago

And thank god they did. Because if they didnt and kept censoring and omitting anythign related to Japan they would have never been able to air Wano.
-
Last set came out on 10/3, five weeks ago. How many weeks y’all think it’ll be until the next one comes? Guess I need to start rationing harder; I was doing three a week. Guess I’ll do two from now on. Hopefully they can at least keep to a 5-6 week schedule.
-
@Zephray these past couple of years we been spoiled getting numerous episodes monthly but sadly all good things to an end , hopefully the next batch is tuesday before the holidays
-
5/6 weeks isn’t too bad a schedule; quicker would be better. But if they keep to 5-6, we’ll still be gaining on them.
-
Anthony isnt working on OP anymore https://x.com/bowling4anime/status/1723721527365923187?s=46&t=Kq3IHPuSvKT2MXKx8HKScQ
-
I mean you could also just say it like it is, that he's leaving Crunchyroll as a whole
-
Well, that explains the slowdown. Bummer.
-
Gutted Anthony's leaving. He and Joel have contributed significantly to the progression of the dub over the years and their efforts are greatly appreciated. That seems like a logical explanation for the sudden slowdown of pacing in episode drops.
-
Emily is still on the show at least but yeah it surely explains it. In hindsight, I think Toei's digital release strategy and it coming before Crunchyroll always made a simuldub slightly impossible since they release the episodes in 12 to 13 episode batches so perhaps a slowdown was inevitable anyway
-
Sorry I wasn’t trying to imply it was for any negative reason, I just figured that was the most important part to this thread.
Not certain Id say thats the reason thats the cause for the release slowdown, they can usually shuffle through directors quickly and several months ago we got confirmation they were recording the most recent episode at the time so I think they could manage with one at this point.
Can’t say for sure of course, but I’d say its likely this is just a random extra long wait like we’ve had occasionally or they just want to be behind by a certain amount as a buffer.
-
Yeah, but losing your lead director on a big show will slow them down from an organizational standpoint.
-
Did we ever learn what caused the work stoppage in 2017?
-
@Trueblade74 There's no way to actually confirm this so take it with a grain of salt, but I heard from my friend who's a voice actor, who actually has done work for Funimation and has many other connections with voice actors in the industry, that Funimation chose to stop dubbing it due to it not being profitable enough. At least that's what I was told. Funimation decided on this in early 2019, with it being in internal limbo for about a year. They were also planning an announcement about its cancellation, apparently. I was told this was insider info and to keep their identity anonymous, but they would have no reason to lie to me.
Obviously that aforementioned dub cancellation announcement was never made and later on that year Funimation said the dub would continue. It was weird though, with production ceasing in 2018 followed by radio silence for a long while and then out of nowhere an announcement about it coming back was made, as if it actually was originally cancelled.
Personally I still believe One Piece was cancelled internally at Funimation like my friend told me, but luckily Toei was interested in a global push to bring most major markets current, especially to coincide with Wano being the new big arc. If you look at the international releases, many One Piece dubs not only started popping up all over the place at about this time, but lots of them also managed to get the very same speed up treatment even we had been hoping for. With Toei also funding the English dub from where Funimation originally left off, especially now with an emphasis on streaming and physical media being secondary, the dub was able to continue again and this time more material was dubbed faster than ever before.
