There's no "right implementation", those kind of mechanics work in a single player game because they make the player feel smart for overcoming it.
In a fighting game, making a character unable to damage another for the sake of "logic" or "plot" is bad design, a fake choice, a way to make characters with overpowered abilities even more overpowered, a waste of Usopp/Robin/Nami/Chopper/Brook/Franky/Buggy's fans time.
And then what? You have to wet crocodile? bring rubber gloves/swords for Enel? How can anyone except Kuzan could hope to cool down Sakazuki? What is the Logia player sacrificing for this defense? At least the Haki users could get a bar or something so they can't just spam haki attacks.
The rock paper sicsors aproach to character power can't be this straightforward in a fighting game, it has to be built on the engine and how strategies interact wiht one another, like fast characters having little hp but managing to get in range for their attacks make projectile users weak against them, but the projectile users can stunlock and damage a lot the big bruisers, who barely flinch from the faster attackers and can counter attacks within their range, not in the "I'm of the blue element so I can beat you because you are yellow!".
Just say that you don't want to do the weaker characters because you have a crush for Luffy's brothers, haki black and be done with it. I mean what's the point of the giant rosters of Naruto and Dragon Ball Games if Rock Lee couldn't touch Naruto, or if Krillin saw attack didn't affect Cell.

Translated Scan
Cool that Law and Batolomeo is in, curious to see Laws Room Mechanik in a Fight :)
I'm with maxterdexter here, it would be aweful for a Multiplayer Game if some Characters could not attack Logias if they don't find the weak Spot.
-
Developers for anime and manga based games focus way too much on fanservice, it hurts the gameplay and game balance. Fanservice games are nearly always forgotten and buried within a month or two.
-
They should just have a haki mechanic and either only have characters who know Haki in the game like Vergo and Usopp or just force haki on everyone.
-
I wish they would just make a normal fighting game. Here doesn't need to be any gimmicks
-
So Nami and Franky are probably out of the game ?
-
Spike…. I want to have faith in you once again.... but these gimmicks..
-
Maybe we should do the smart thing and wait to see how the game will work first before making broad assumptions?
Nah, that's too rational.
So Nami and Franky are probably out of the game ?
Why does everyone keep believing main characters will be left out? They're not going to leave out any of the Straw Hat crew. That would be bonkers.
-
at very least the non haki/DF StrawHats will be support only (provided support characters is a thing) or NPCs
-

You really imagine an One Piece game with only 3 characters from the main cast? Really?
-
This is cool. If you dont want the challenge of finding weak spots, just choose a character with Haki. Adding a little skill into the mix is pretty cool. Hopefully they pull this off and does not become a hindrance to the point hardly anyone would ever use a non-Haki character against a Logia due to how unbalance the system is.
-

No. I said to just give them the ability to use haki.
-

Well with haki or fruits from the main cast we would have luffy, zoro, usopp, sanji, chopper, robin and brook. So only Nami and Franky would be out. And with that wapometal thing maybe only Nami.
-
Don't know how the game will turn out, but these scans are so cheesy and awkward. "The power of Haki vs. Devil Fruits! A new era of Haki and Devil Fruits!". Man, get a new marketing director or something.
-

I know of very few fighting games made over the last 20 year history that don't have some type of gimmick in it's setup from cancels, to complex inputs, to instant killing moves.
-
Well, I'll give them credit for trying something new out with this. Hopefully, these "weak spots" are like executing a three-hit combo or a strong high attack or what not. Something not too broken.
-
I wish the Logia defense mechanic would be something like parrying. Characters with Observation Haki or Rokushiki techniques could do it as well.
-
I didn't realize one or two games means we're stuck with this thing FOREVER.
Calm down.
To be fair, he got a point.
As soon as Sabo was revealed to be alive, he instantly became one of the faces in the upcoming games, which are so far Pirate Warriors 3 and Burning Blood. Thats 100% lol and you can bet that he will ALWAYS have a big role in games. It is sad to see the rest of Strawhats not only get the short stick in the manga but also in games.
-

There's a difference between gimmicks and mechanics though. Cancels, instant kills and complex inputs are implemented to add depth to the game in order to add more options for situations. But gimmicks like 'only haki users can hurt logias' seem like they are just there to make the game stand out from the crowd.
-
Do you guys have any idea how messed up would be if JJBA All-Star or Naruto Ultimate Ninja would be if they followed 100 percent the source material?

That honestly sounds no different.

The Ameriican release of the second Ultimate Ninja game technically did that by removing the villain from the first movie from the game and by tacking on a filler arc at the end of it's story
-

What? Fighting games have been known to implement stupid gimmicks from time to time, but cancels and the like - that's just a fighting game being good. One hit kills, can be annoying I guess, but I agree with the previous poster that as long as the risk and the reward are equal, that that is just quality gameplay.
-
I think the one thing I would want most out of this game is for Chopper to actually fight in his Heavy Point instead of Brain Point like he is for Pirate Warriors, Unlimited This or That, Grand Battle, etc. That always irks me.
-

Jojo did follow it to near 100% and that's why it was broken. Pucci wins every time because he can speed up time and valentine can completely heal himself at any point.

In theory, Fugo and Valentine could one hit kill very easily. I mean seriously, how can you make Diavolo playable in any game?

Make King Crimson work like The Flash and Reptile's abilities in Injustice/MKX maybe?

Bandai is really planning to aim for the Western market with this game.
Xbox One was a possibility, but the turn-around is still surprising nonetheless. -
HD Screenshots looks nice, better than the Trailer. Doflamingos Awakening is just awesome. Hoping for Gear 4th Pictures soon.
-
i am pretty sure doing 12 languages is just changing the text of the game based on the region the game is being sold when released
so not really excitied about that bit.
game being confirmed for Xbox One…
just to pull in the profit of the One Piece fans who like Xbox over Playstation. so meh
__the screenshots make the game graphics look better which is nice and they reconfirm Bartolomeo in higher detail
__ -
Why are you complaining that it is coming out for Xbox? That's a good thing…..
-
Why are you complaining that it is coming out for Xbox? That's a good thing…..
how?
cause to me who only plays Playstation, the only good fact that Burning Blood is going to Xbone is that One piece is getting more attention and maybe(a real low maybe) we get a One Piece game with a dub after like 8 years since the last One Piece game that had a Dub
-
Maybe because it lets more people play it.
But hey, what do I know?
-
Burning Blood has a higher chance of getting dual audio since it's being ported to a largely American centered platform. And fighting games are usually cheaper to dub for because there is less dialogue and lines that need to be read.
But there's still also a chance it will remain JPN audio only. Time will tell.

I hope it does come to steam. IIRC, it is for the Vita, PS4 & now Xbone. Steam, I would think, is the bigger market place. I wonder how well PW3 sold on steam. Aside from no online and getting the ps3 version, I don't recall and technical hiccups with the release.
-
-
what about the ps3?
-
Damn I want to play as Enel so bad
-
what about the ps3?
Game can't handle these Advance graphics. That's why this will be the first One Piece game to skip last gen and go into the future.

Then why is it on the vita?

Hmmmmm….
Forgive me if I'm missing the obvious, but what's so Hmm worthy?
-

Is it on the 3DS? lol but anyways. No more one piece games on the last gen console until Bandai says otherwise? Maybe the New 3DS? But Vita is a powerful handheld but has not enough sales to over shadow the 3DS.

Funimation logo is interesting. Does that show up in the non-dubbed Pirate Warriors?

I think so? Want me to check to make sure?
