@Neaeran:
I'm trying to get into the game at the moment. Is Turf War the only mode you can play before reaching level 10?
So far i'm doing fine i guess, my points are constantly in the upper range despite only playing with players at level 20 and above. I mean, i'm dying more than i manage to get kills so far but i guess that will change with experience.
Any advice which weapon is good for beginners?
The default Splattershot and the Tentatek Splattershot are probably the most basic weapons to deal with while also being rather strong in the meta, so to a lot of people they're not only a solid start but just what they keep using for forever. Most dualies fall within the same range of basic while allowing for some maneuverability.
Then there's the weapons that a lot of people are using due to their ease to both paint and kill: the N-Zap, the Sploosh-o-matic and the Splash-o-matic, and more infamously the Octobrush, which can kill effectively while having ridiculous range and a solid kit. If you're sticking just to turf war, I think the aerospray is still a popular option just by virtue of painting fast and building up curling bomb special… problem is that if you play people who know what they're doing you'll be a priority target for killing.
If you really want broken, the tri-slosher continues to be the number one broken weapon for a lot of people, since it can kill rather fast and easily with surprising range while requiring little aim.
The thing to keep in mind about a lot of weapons above is that while being good they can build up very bad habits. Currently there's a lot of new splatoon players going around in higher ranks and in turf war as well without a shred of defensive strategy or survivability. Which is where other non-automatic weapons come in, since by design carrying weapons that require charge time, super close range, spacing, precision or a controlled amount of ink will also require more strategy in how you approach the enemy and how you escape engagements where you would otherwise die.
Summary:
If you want to really get good at the game, try out each weapon class as you buy them and develop habits with the stuff you feel fun. I'd suggest developing a favorite weapon for each weapon class to really have versatility as well as different experiences.
If you are currently just interested in ease of winning, top recommendations are probably just the splattershots, rapid-paint weapons (n-zap, sploosh, aerospray if in turf war only), the octobrush and the tri-slosher.
Other bits to consider in getting better:
- Go through the single player to get used to every weapon type
- Practice your aim with gyroscope. Motion control aiming in this game is a must to really be competitive, kind of like how playing PC shooters pretty much require using a mouse.
