@Vongola_Boss_XI:
Yeah, hardcover, larger format, and maybe 2 volumes in 1 is my dream. I have the full-color Freeza arc volumes for Dragon Ball and every time I look at them, I just wish it was One Piece. Sadly, I guess they didn't sell well enough for Viz to release the rest of the series. All we got were the Saiyan and Freeza arcs, but the Dragon Ball Wiki indicates that the entire digitally colored series received a print publication in Japan.
Which is why it's even more surprising they haven't done so with One Piece. I guess maybe they'll wait until the series is over? Surprisingly, it seems Shueisha never did a Kanzenban / deluxe release for Naruto or Bleach, despite them being popular series.
But given 4 years of Oda's 5 year estimate are probably going to be spent on Wano, I think it's fair to say the end isn't particularly near for One Piece, so I guess we'll be waiting a while for any type of deluxe re-release.
I think it'd be cool to follow the log collections, or Jump Remix volumes, or some other way of blocking out the story that ends volumes and arcs at the same point rather than just sticking regular size volumes together.
I really think Viz shot themselves in the foot by testing the waters with Dragon Ball. Between the regular volumes, the box sets, the Vizbig editions and the regular 3-in-1s, there are so many ways to get your hands on the series. Even if the 3-in-1s came after the first colour arc, there was pretty thin odds that anyone who wanted Dragon Ball didn't have it. Hell, I'd just bought the Vizbigs when I first heard of the colour edition and decided it wasn't worth the double dip. Not to mention choosing to go by arc, starting from the Z era, with no guarantee of finishing the series or going back to the OG Dragon Ball stuff making it unappealing for anyone who wants a full set. If you're new and just want to get up to date, you'd choose anything else. If you're a veteran fan who wants to have physical copies, anything else is easier and more economical. It was a release only for the most hardcore, get everything with the branding on it fans.
Now I'm no marketing guy, and I don't know what the internal data is, but I'd like to hope One Piece could stand up a little better. Give the early volumes that revised translation we've been asking for forever to justify the upgrade and draw in the old guard weebs who think Zolo justifies snubbing the whole release. Just need to earn some trust with either big volumes or extremely regular releases so it's not a 20-year catchup job. Give them their box sets or bundles.
I'm probably sounding way off-base to anyone who actually works in manga publishing, but I like to dream.
