Chapter 763: Human Declaration

Now I'm curious and in need of asking: Am I the only one who disliked Doffy's dad for what he has done?
What did he do ?
-
Thanks!
So many things to notice!!

Doflamingo's right eye!!! http://i.imgur.com/dDWIb6w.jpg
Donquixote Pirates ship!!! http://i.imgur.com/YBEOr9d.jpg
Pandaman!!And One Piece Lead Color next week.
HELL YEAH!!! SO MANY AWESOME THINGS!!!Oh dear, the ship looks like one of these swan boats you can rent. XD
Corazon can talk? I wonder why he pretented to be mute. Or why he pretended to be still mute. He may have really lost the ability to speak but regained it later.
-
lol man there's so much good stuff to talk about in this chapter that even if you liked it, just few hours after the release, you have to point at the only thing you disliked.
dd's dad was an asshole tho
Disliking the character does not mean I dislike his role in the story.
Doffy's Dad works well on story level, and arguably makes the chapter better. Me disliking him is more of a principle thing.
-
AWESOME chapter. Oda made a damn good one this week. Great reveals and great flashback so far!
-
How was he an asshole?
Taking away the only source of sustenance for his family of four? For no other reason than "I want to live normaly"?
-
Is it just me? Or you all would like a 600 episodes show titeled "Mingo and freinds" based on Doffy'd crew? XD
-

I think voluntarily chose not to speak. He definitely was not pretending. Hearing the "D" in Law's name is what cause him to speak.
-
because he never said he wanted to do good to the others.
he just said that he and his family should live as humans, because it was the right thing for them.
in fact,he said he needed to re-educate his children for that exact motive.See, what I don't get is: Why he couldn't just do so as a Celestial Dragon.
-
I hadn't even noticed about the eyes. That was one beautiful chapter.
-
Doffy's father is a dumbass. Im sorry but that had to be said. Atleast tell your sons what's really happening and tell them to shut up around the townsfolk. If he wanted to change, that was fine, but what the hell did he think would happen?
-
See, here's a thing: We were never explicitly told that Celestial Dragons need to do bad stuff.
**Do they need to have slaves? Can they not donate money to charity, or created things beneficial to the populace? They are "Gods". Surely "Gods" don't have such limitations placed upon themselfs?
See, the way I think about it: Why couldn't the guy use his immense power, ifluence and wealth to do some good in the world, instead of going on whimsical soul-searching trip with his entire family**?
This is true, but it's not a really a substantial reason to hate the guy. Though his motivations are kinda blurry. Like why did he bother doing this in first place? Curiosity? Adventure? His response didn't seem at all self centered, but at the same time we really don't know what drove him to just quit being a Heavenly Dragon. It doesn't seem like he had a poor relationship with the other dragons so there wasn't a sense of self preservation or disdain for the livelihood/society. There has to be a reason why he wanted to step down in the first place (as well as drag his family along with him). It's clear the guy wasn't malicious and obviously put his kids' wellbeing before him (even though ultimately his decision was what put the kids in danger in the first place).
So yeah…for me, he's a gray character so far. I don't dislike the guy since he seems like a good person for a heavenly dragon (compared to everyone else we've seen), but I really don't like him either for putting his family's life at risk by not doing his research. AND thus, he's a really compelling character in my book. Glad we have a seemingly "good guy" who ends up screwed over for his own stupidity. It's nice to have gray characters like this.
-
Taking away the only source of sustenance for his family of four? For no other reason than "I want to live normaly"?
Uh, they were still wealthy.
See, what I don't get is: Why he couldn't just do so as a Celestial Dragon.
Because he didn't see himself as one. He says so himself: "I've always been human".

Found a better scan if anyone is interested. Panels are a little brighter.
-
How was he an asshole?
I really like he tried to be different and part ways with cds but, did he have an epiphany all of a sudden or what? if he was somehow different from the others celestial dragons from the beginning maybe he could've started growing his children better, teaching them how to behave in a proper and respectful way, not lending a gun to dofla each time somebody crossed his path, buying him slaves and whatever
besides that, most of all, he was an asshole for not evaluating all the consequences of his choices. If you leave a road for another route, better be sure to know where it ends.
-

Though he didn't. They moved in a pretty nice mansion. And Doffy is on a pile of treasure when he asked slaves.
-
-
See, what I don't get is: Why he couldn't just do so as a Celestial Dragon.
He probably didn't want to keep living in a city where other humans were treated like shit in a daily basis.
Anyway, he was naive for trusting the other celestial dragons and the world government, but at least he didn't want his family to live like beggars after giving up on their titles.
-
besides that, most of all, he was an asshole for not evaluating all the consequences of his choices. If you leave a road for another route, better be sure to know where it ends.
That's not being an asshole. That's being stupid.
He was always putting the lives of his family above himself.

Thanks.
Not Fujitora is not Fujitora. -

I don't hate him. I dislike him. It seems to me that he got his family into that for no other reason the idle curiousity.
Also, from the perspective of a person that was quite poor: If you have the money and prestige, and you throw it away for reasons that meager, while having a family that you need to sustain, fuck you, thank you very much.
-
See, what I don't get is: Why he couldn't just do so as a Celestial Dragon.
first thing celestial dragon cannot live with commoners..don't you remember that even when they leave marijoa, they use that space-bubble thing to not breathe the same air as the commoners?
second, renuncing to his tenryuubito privileges was the first part of "living like a human"
-
That's not being an asshole. That's being stupid.
seriously, cmon, you must really be bored to argue over that
-
besides that, most of all, he was an asshole for not evaluating all the consequences of his choices. If you leave a road for another route, better be sure to know where it ends.
….........wut.
He literally tried everything to get his family back to the Holy Land. Even tried to sacrifice himself for his children. Don't get how that makes him an asshole. He realized he made the wrong choice and he tried to fix it.
-
Uh, they were still wealthy.
That doesn't last forever. And for that matter, throwing away safety of Mariejois in the world that's in perpetual state of warfare, to the point you can count characters with living family members on one hand?
Because he didn't see himself as one. He says so himself: "I've always been human".
A) Well, he did terrific job teaching his children that.
B) If he always was, then what the hell did he dropped the title in the first place? What changed.
-
seriously, cmon, you must really be bored to argue over that
So, putting the lives of his family over his, trying to educate his spoiled kids, trying to live humbly and trying to fix his mistakes are stuff assholes do?
-
Can we conclude that Corazon doesnt have the Ope-Ope as he didn't heal himself?
-
Homing is the first Celestial Dragon to have a sense of perspective.
-
Wasn't Ronzinante the donkey in the original Don Quichotte's tale?
Rocinante was the horse actually.
I dunno. He didn't do anything with bad intentions, and he did try to go back in his decision.
His only crime is being naive.
I wanted to point out how the same could also be said about Doflamingo's actions as a kid to an extent. He was a spoiled brat who didn't know any better, acting the way he always which ended up leading to a lot of trouble.
-
Can we conclude that Corazon doesnt have the Ope-Ope as he didn't heal himself?
Doula kinda confirmed it when he said that they might find a fruit that could heal Law.
-
So, putting the lives of his family over his, trying to educate his spoiled kids, trying to live humbly and trying to fix his mistakes are stuff assholes do?
Again, why couldn't he educate them without dropping everything.
And yes, if you are in immensely secure, wealthy, privaleged position, have two kids, and drop it all for no other reason then "I want to live as ordinary people do", again, fuck you.
-
I wanted to point out how the same could also be said about Doflamingo's actions as a kid to an extent. He was a spoiled brat who didn't know any better, acting the way he always which ended up leading to a lot of trouble.
Yeah, but the thing is that he still sees himself as a Celestial Dragon.
So he really didn't learn anything from this.
-

but they moved to a mansion full of treasure
His only real mistake was being tricked by the WG into moving to an island full of people who held grudges against the Celestial Dragons.
-
Yeah, but the thing is that he still sees himself as a Celestial Dragon.
So he really didn't learn anything from this.
Yeah he did.
People will try to hunt him down simply for being who he is, than he might as well reap the benefits and be hunted, instead of having none, and be hunted.
Pretty good lesson to be learned.
-
Now I'm curious and in need of asking: Am I the only one who disliked Doffy's dad for what he has done?
I feel you there, for the same reasons you stated a few posts above, but eh, being mega rich from the day you were born tends to make someone stupid + naive. And yes im talking about Dofla's parents, not his sons.
For the chapter, its great and keep me wanting for moar omg! OP seems getting a lot darker in the last 2 chapters though.
And mega LOL for corazon, i mean, he keeps slipping + burning his coat + spur his hot tea while Law make 'the fuck!?' face in every, otherwise serious panel hahahahaha! Looking forward for the anime!
-
Again, why couldn't he educate them without dropping everything.
And yes, if you are in immensely secure, wealthy, privaleged position, have two kids, and drop it all for no other reason then "I want to live as ordinary people do", again, fuck you.
Yooo man. They were fine, happy and wealthy. They just got fucking hunted down like animals lol. Not like he could of predicted that.
-
That doesn't last forever. And for that matter, throwing away safety of Mariejois in the world that's in perpetual state of warfare, to the point you can count characters with living family members on one hand?
As opposed to ? Mariejoie ? LOL
-
….........wut.
He literally tried everything to get his family back to the Holy Land. Even tried to sacrifice himself for his children. Don't get how that makes him an asshole. He realized he made the wrong choice and he tried to fix it.
i never questioned his morality or his love for all members of his family.
he is an asshole for what he did before. he was a brave and caring dad for what he tried to do after.
if closing the shed after losing all the cows it's a smart move then he was clever and i'm out. -
Maybe Jora is an old mermaid and Dellinger her half-fish son.
By the way great chapter, maybe we will have 1-2 more chapters of flashback…
A lot of stuff we didn't see coming in this one, especially baby Dellinger on a firing cannon during a naval battle with marine on a weavy sea... GREAT -

Also, from the perspective of a person that was quite poor: If you have the money and prestige, and you throw it away for reasons that meager, while having a family that you need to sustain, fuck you, thank you very much.
Opps, didn't mean to say hate.
But I don't think his intention was to throw away his money, but just toss off something he thought was superficial (being "gods" when they were no different from any other person which is why they didn't have any slaves). So pretty much he was tossing away his prestige, but I doubt the money was something he planned on parting with (since Dofla was pretty much playing in a pile of treasure). His motivations are so vague though, I'm not sure what he intended on accomplishing by doing this though. It's not like he planned on being homeless. So I'm not sure what he intended on doing by tossing off his title. Living a normal life? Doing good for the misfortune? It's a mystery that I'm sure Oda will probably gloss over.
-
Again, why couldn't he educate them without dropping everything.
And yes, if you are in immensely secure, wealthy, privaleged position, have two kids, and drop it all for no other reason then "I want to live as ordinary people do", again, fuck you.
"Fuck you for being humble"?
And again, he tried to fix his mistake.
-
but they moved to a mansion full of treasure
And what of it? Then how is it being a "Human", for starters? For that idiot, at least?
And what about privaleges? What about in living in one of the few practicaly only relatively safe places in the world?
And his motivation for that sucks, and that's all there is to it.
His only real mistake was being tricked by the WG into moving to a island full of people who held grudges against the Celestial Dragons.
Is there an island in the entire world that doesn't?
-
Somebody already pointed this out, but Diamante is totally taking a selfie here, isn't he?
It was me :B and I´m really tempted to draw an arm so it looks like he´s holding a iPhone (or iDDMushi?)
-
So, putting the lives of his family over his, trying to educate his spoiled kids, trying to live humbly and trying to fix his mistakes are stuff assholes do?
I see where you want to go but I don't want to come there. I said something else. No need to procrastinate or argue.
-
"Fuck you for being humble"?
If you have family that you drag along, making decisions for them? Yes.
-
but they moved to a mansion full of treasure
His only real mistake was being tricked by the WG into moving to an island full of people who held grudges against the Celestial Dragons.
Actually, I wonder if this was a conspiracy of some sort. They could have moved them to any island, but NOPE, they had to move the Flamingos to the island filled with very disgruntled people.
In fact, I wonder if this will tie with Doflamingo finding a way to redeem himself in front of the CDs and securing his safety (as well as his brother's) by sacrificing his father's life in some way.
-
As opposed to ? Mariejoie ? LOL
You are speaking from the perspective of omniscient reader. Not character in story.
-
Yooo man. They were fine, happy and wealthy. They just got fucking hunted down like animals lol. Not like he could of predicted that.
Actually, Homing seems to be the only one fine with the whole situation.
