Always perplexed by reactions to Nintendo conferences. I understand the enthusiasm for a BotW2 though I didn't care for the first game, but wasn't it pretty clear from that trailer that it was a minimum of two years away? And is there really any reason to expect it's not going to be held for some platform upgrade a la Twilight Princess and, say, BotW1?

If it was to be held off for some platform upgrade, the game would probably be over five years away. The Switch ain't going anywhere any time soon. Besides, this is an asset-reusing sequel. While Aonuma said that he was giving the team a longer development schedule than Majora's Mask (which was put together in one year), meaning it's probably not coming next year… I'd be very surprised if the release isn't in 2021 sometime. The actual story and world design in Breath of the Wild itself supposedly took about two years, with the three preceeding that being pretty much solely dedicated to building the game engine. Since that's already done this time around, the development cycle is essentially guaranteed to be a lot shorter.

Fair. In this case, was thinking less WiiU->Switch than, say, 3DSXL->New 3DS XL, where it'll work fine on the Switch but better on the Switch Pro or whatever is supposedly in the hopper with all the rumors about new iterations lately.
But from what you're describing, the hope would be a Mario Galaxy to Galaxy 2 scenario, which would be ideal for all the BotW fans.

Short hair Zelda being playable would be great, not necessarily because its her (or rather Not Link), but as the primary gameplay feature to set it apart from Botw. By reusing engine and assets (something im completely down for given the incredible aesthetic), what better way to set it apart even further than what Majora did by adding a new dimension not only compared to Botw but to the series as a whole. With both Zelda and Link playable (either at intervals, or at your leisure) both puzzles and combat would also open up indefinite new ways to be approached and solved, not to mention the potential to have a more involved story since Zelda would be able to talk back to NPCs or anything of the sort.
Darker undertones would be fine and all, as long as they are presented gracefully and not shoved in your face like Twilight Princess attempted to at times, but even moreso than "just" creepier and unsettling atmosphere, what Majora excelled at (and is oftentimes ignored in favor of the aforementioned "dark" themes so many love to talk about) was the amount of mysteries and the absence of a clear answer to most of them. When you give an explanation the subject will then be taken for granted, it will no longer hold your attention the same way before you were unable to fill in the blanks your brain so desperately wants to make sense of. Like the inside of the Moon, or Termina itself are never explained, they keep being interesting and are timeless because of it.
If mysteries and a darker story weren't enough, Majora also provided something i hardly see represented: the denial of a great danger everyone should be aware of but hardly gets mentioned or taken seriously, which then inevitably leads to people acting out of desperation or with acceptance of that which they cant overcome when its already too late.
The sequel to Botw shouldnt just attempt to recreate any of these intricacies, but maybe follow those footsteps by providing something that cant be found elsewhere, even if it would be unappealing to some because of it, but not uninteresting on itself and therefore finding an audience that will love it precisely because it resonates with them and its not just some safe approach that everyone can partake in.

If they add much more new content to Link's Awakening other than stuff like hearts and bottles, I would want it to be some kind of post-game content. Interfering with the main adventure would be sad. The color dungeon already pretty much breaks the game because of how OP the rewards are. Also the dungeon creator thing is a lot more like some little puzzles than actual dungeon design.
I'm expecting a second quest and a hard mode, since the original game didn't have either.

Or Nintendo can stop with the played out nonsense and just have Link actually talk.

Hopefully they will drop the voice acting with real world language, and either change it to a made up one or go back to text. Link talking in either of those should be fine, but him actually speaking in english/jap/etc is a big no zone, and this applies to also Zelda and the other characters that imo do not fit well with their current voice acting. As bad of a backpedaling this would be (and i dont see it happening in the Botw sequel yet for consistency), i dont think its a wise decision to keep it this way, especially if the corresponding talents for each region vary in quality so much.

With the game's having voiceless dialog anyway that'd be awfully redudant.

I'll admit Zelda's random British accent was unexpected but not really ill fitting.

The thing with voice acting is that talent varying in quality within the same dub is not only not a new concept (hello 4Kids and Funimation) it's not really a logical reason to just up and stop doing the voice acting altogether. Last thing we need is Nintendo pulling another Sunshine.
