This episode will also be the first episode to simulcast on Crunchyroll (same time as FUNi simulcast).
Cool, I'm excited to see how they'll handle this one.
IMO, Franky's been super awesome ever since the timeskip, plus we haven't seen him in action for a while. I really liked this part of the arc in the manga, hopefully Toei does it some justice in the anime.
Slowest Door Ever!
Good episode but I'll just get this out of the way
Monet sprawling out like she was on the cross and moaning sexually the whole time was really awkward :ninja:
Annoying alarms, skipped scenes, even more running, ORGASMS!?, and just a straight up incorrect ending…
Honestly, the only redeeming factor of this episode was the Franky vs Baby 5/Buffalo bit, literally everything else about the episode was either "wtf?" or "uuuggh..." worthy, sometimes a combination of both. Just my opinion though.
I don't like how they've been completely shafting Usopp lately either, Toei needs to quit that shit, for real.

Yeah, that was…I dunno. No wonder people can't get into OP when the anime's always like that :P
General Franky looked like a human.
I liked the episode. Maybe it's only me but I found Monet's moaning scene hilarious.
I really enjoyed those last 2-3 minutes. Awesome!
I liked the episode. Maybe it's only me but I found Monet's moaning scene hilarious.
I can see what they were trying to do, I mean she was about to sacrifice her life for dofla it seemed like she was mustering up the courage. Either way it was really awkward.
the episode gets an 8/10 for me.
it lost 2 because the ending half fucked up the pacing a bit.
the scene with monet makes sense, she is about to give up her life after all, but damn that seemed…. how to say out of place? whats sad is the episode couldve been filled with last weeks missed material, like seriously, why REMOVE preious canon when you have to pad your episodes with filler. they could have easily put last weeks removed usopp scene in here, to explain how he got the handcuffs.
! and finally, an explosion? seriously? how are they gonna get out of that one? huh? say it was in her head?
I liked the episode, Franky's fight was hilarious and the last minutes had some nice visuals and musical choices.
Weird way to end the anime though. :ninja:
(The explosion at the end was way too big to be the one in the SAD production room, lol.)
You guys do realise that they could show the usopp scene when he fights Caesar right? I honestly don't see why everyone's rushing to see that. It wasn't that important. @Primo11:
I can see what they were trying to do, I mean she was about to sacrifice her life for dofla it seemed like she was mustering up the courage. Either way it was really awkward.
Yeah, that's why I found it hilarious. It was so awkward to watch.
I didn't really find the Monet scene awkward or overdone. Most of us probably would've had a more difficult time coming to terms with it and would take more than a few minutes to respond to the situation…if I were told to explode a building I'm currently in and thus destroy myself in the process, I'd probably not and run far, far away. I don't think I'd ever be loyal enough to someone to even consider doing that in the first place, though.
I'm not upset at the fact that Usopp didn't get to take out Caesar's minions, because that part didn't make sense to me in the manga. Caesar showed them his true colors (song reference intended), and Usopp gave them an inspiring speech just before Luffy blasted Caesar outside of the lab...and they still attack him after all that happened? Why?
I liked how most of the last parts were played. There was some awkwardness, yeah, but I was y'know, feeling for the bad guys a lot more than I did in the manga. Colors were pretty, in any event.
Cutting fights in 3 or 4 even the smallest ones and the slow pace really ruins the anime for me…
I thought you guys were just exaggerating, but uh, yeah. Monet certainly did sound (and look) like she was basking in afterglow.
The first part of the General Franky fight is off to a good start. I figured they'd use ''A Man's Battle'' as its theme, and it was nice to hear Franky's theme as well. But come on, that explosion at the end was copy-pasted straight from the Punk Hazard destruction flashback!
Kinda wished Toei would have just said "fuck status quo" and cover a chapter and a half. A few dragged out scenes were kinda irritating, but not really annoying strangely enough.
The fight between Mazinge–I mean, Franky Shogun and Baby 5 + Buffalo was excellent. The bit where Franky didn't know what to do with the shield was gold and adapted perfectly.
Now, the ending....Meeeeh, I kinda understood what they were going for, but I think it's either hit-or-miss for some people.
Someone who only watches the anime might it appreciate more, but for someone who has read ahead, it might come across as tedious stalling.
The explosion is obviously from
! Building D, where Vergo is.
I thought that scene added some extra tension for anime-only watchers.

More like After
.seriously my mom was watching with me (she will occasionally watch some anime with me) and we just laughed at the randomness of the scene.
it was well done, actually but the pacing was still ridiculous. the first half was a nice fight, and the second half was a very strangely paced gem. and yeah some sun was nice to look at after so damn long.
Well this is just embarrassing.
Well the episode is finally up on crunchyroll, and for those wondering:
No they did not secure the rights to play the correct opening, though that shouldn't come as a surprise. Makes me wonder if that was the holdup, that being, trying to get the rights for the proper opening,or rather part of the reason.
On the bright side it did look fantastic on my big screen. Though hardly anything to get too excited about, regardless it still beats funi's player, and hulu.
I was expecting the worst, but I'm glad I went in w/ low expectations. It wasn't too bad. The only things, in terms of dragging, that sorta got to me were: the obvious re-use of some Franky Shogun scenes (very small gripe, plus they still looked nice), the waiting for Chopper and co. (we're back to establishing shots of the crew standing there staring at a door while we have that annoying alarm), and the ending portion w/ Monet and the montage of everything happening. Now the last one, I kind of appreciated in that they were trying to go for something theatric…and while it didn't grate on me as much as some...as soon as Monet did her pose and snow started falling, I threw my arms in the air and yelled "SYMBOLISM"! XD Despite all that though, I still found the episode watchable and enjoyable. Found the small moments between Monet and Vergo w/ Doflamingo almost touching yet still kinda twisted imo.
I actually loved this episode. The Franky fight was handled well all around (looking at those action shots of Buffalo and Baby 5 flying through the air) and contained plenty of humor. Luffy's gums flapping around like that was a nice touch. The Monet stuff worked for me too. She's about to sacrifice herself so it makes sense that she'd take a minute or two to come to grips with it, reflect on life, etc. And the whole scene honestly got me feeling kind of sorry for Doflamingo, Vergo, and Monet.

General Franky's fight was hilarious. Missile Girl reminds me so much of Bobobo.

Agreed with everything you said. I think the problem is that some manga readers expect everything to be covered as fast as possible, with no build up, no sense of drama or tension whatsoever.
The Usopp scene, it really didn't make sense. They were fighting for whom and what, exactly? It was like Oda suddenly went "crap!! Usopp didn't do anything this arc, better make these minions attack him for no reason."

That's a freeze frame. He's blinking in the actual scene.

…By any chance am I the only one seeing it?
Really?
Nobody else noticing the fact that THERE'S A SEVERAL PIXELS WIDE GAP BETWEEN HIS EYELIDS AND HIS HEAD THROUGH WHICH YOU CAN SEE THE BACKGROUND AND ZORO'S TORSO? Seriously, only on-screen for a twelfth of a second or not, this is a thing that should not happen.
Oh and I would like to point out that I did not, like, specifically go through the episode frame-by-frame to catch this either. I noticed it while just watching the episode normally, and then I later went back to confirm that I did indeed see exactly what I thought I had seen.

I assume you mean his upper eyelid looking like it was sketched?
I also noticed that one of his eyeballs is not perfectly round. It looks like a lemon.
I absolutely hate how they made Doflamingo smile during Monet's "death" scene. It just felt like "I'm sorry you have to die… but that's how I roll so just do it little bitch". It wasn't like that in the manga. At all.
Awesome mecha action. I can't force myself to care about the rest :P
The boomerang scene was simply glorious. And I wasn't expecting to hear A Mother's Love, that was a pleasant surprise.
Overall i found this episode entertaining. Sure it had a few slightly dragged moments (especially with CC) but not something that really impacts the enjoyment of it. I kinda liked the monet stuff, sure a bit random but overall makes sense. Though, i'm slightly disappointed that they have skipped through a ussop moment but as someone have already said it makes some more sense to not include that (or in my opinion at least).
I liked how they have put a tiny bit of the next chapter to add to the tension, and boy o boy next episode is going to be fun.
! a certain song and a very certain someone who makes a surprise appearance :D
Moreover, this episode have sent me the vibe that Doflamingo is in some sort of grief over Vergo and Monet in the way he was presented in this episode. Maybe it was the delivery of the voice actor (which is always excellent IMHO) or that he is sitting in the dark near a window or the words themselves, they are all contribute to his sadness over his subordinates deaths really convinced me. Sure the smile almost said fuck all to that but as some people (youtube) are saying DD is a complex character and who knows really.
it was a decent episode until the final part
a particular i didn't really like in it was
! doflamingo smiling at the end…in the manga he is in the shadows, supposedly saddened by the loss of his two crew members, while in the anime all the "i'm sorry you have to die for me" part vanishes when he is just smiling while Monet is ready to sacrifice herself

He sounded genuinely sad when he talked to Monet and especially Vergo.
He's not seen immediately smiling, he's contemplative, then he smiles. It makes sense, in the way of 'in the end, i still have the last laugh here". It would still be a victory for him, as long as Ceasar alone survived.
monet for moaning
This episode had problems, sure, but it wasn't terrible! Baby 5 was great; anime is really doing her justice by expanding her personality a little!
Monet's scene was weird tough, with all that moaning. She must really get it on of self-sacrificing. Not that I mind! :ninja:
Aaaand Doflamingo grinning. Seriously Toei, just because he's a bad guy doesn't mean you need to ruin one of the few redeeming moments he has! :getlost:

Did he ever have redeeming moments? Except for that speech at marineford and a couple of other fancy speeches he's really been a jerk most of the time.
And given future revelations about him I'm not surprised they went with that. Not just for the evulz.
Is it like that thing when a living organism knows their life is in jeapardy they have increased sex drive? Harpy Moan-eh!

The Franky vs. Baby 5 and Buffalo scene was entertaining and well done.
Monet's voice actress gave a stirring performance, though I have to admit that they drew out her death scene a bit too long. Maybe it's just the use of at particular sound track, but it made me feel more sympathetic to her. I don't mind that they are drawing out the scenes longer in order to make up for the close gap with the manga.
I actually think the manga moves way too quickly at times, though I know Oda does this more out of necessity than anything else. It isn't perfect either, so I'm not sure why people keep treating the pacing in the manga pacing like it's the holy grail. This anime could use a decent filler arc that lasts at least 15 -20 episodes if not more. Oda needs more time to push his story ahead of the tv version. I actually like that the anime draws out the drama of a scene a bit longer, makes it worth watching especially with the voice actors and music.
Oh my.~
I guess nobody can say now that Monet doesn't get.. satisfaction from serving her Master. She even got so excited that she dropped to her knees and made it snow all over her face. That was a happy ending if I've ever seen one.. and interesting. Not sure why there was an explosion there.
Maybe this will lead into the much-anticipated filler arc you were all clamoring about last week? You know, the one where the explosion and gasses turn all the henchmen into cannibalistic mutants. And the Strawhats have to fight them all for Brownbeard-sama's honor while Law tags along looking desu uguu and more fan art-worthy.
Aaaaaaaanyway. Pretty good episode overall. First part was great with good animation and even better humor. Second part was handled fairly well, too.
9/10. I loved this episode.
The anime crew did a good job with Baby-5 in this episode. I liked her more here than I ever have in the manga. They had her goofiness but actually made her seem villainous. The VA's delivery certainly helped. The fight in general was handled well.
The scene with everyone reuniting to leave was also well-done. It had a really heartwarming feel. I don't mind them skipping the Usopp fight scene. As has been mentioned above, it actually didn't make much sense anyway.
I liked the ending montage. But, it was undeniably incredibly awkward when Monet started moaning. I'm probably on my own with this but I actually smiled myself when Dofla did. As his underground title suggests he is very similar to The Joker. An utterly sadistic villain that just enjoys chaos (although Dofla does have a plan). However, to The Joker everyone under him is just a pawn; he ha no empathy for them they're just puppets that should obey him, their feelings don't matter. Thus, I've always (and still do) found it awkward when he actually starts sharing compassion and tenderness with his crew mates. I like sympathetic villains with depth but Dofla really shouldn't be one. His character just shouts bastard through and through.
! He seems to act different with those who belong to his family, though.

did anyone else find the art realllyyy bad this episode?! There were some scene's that were awful.
Not to talk about monet and the explosion, that was really weird too.
Franky vs buffalo / baby5 was cool tho i liked that part.
This episode was okay. As usual Franky's robots are animated beautifully while other scenes look like shit. There was some really drawn out scenes as the usual where pacing sucked. Monet's death, while touching, was a bit awkward with her basically having an orgasm or something.
An alright episode all around, though.
