AP Pokemon Tournament (READ FIRST POST)

can we still enter ?
-
I'm not gonna have the time to make a perfect IV trained team for the tournment.
I'm still going to participate though. -
@Guybrush:
can we still enter ?
I kind of wanted to close entries so that I could focus on getting the whole thing set up, but if all goes well I am planning to hold more every month
-
11/16: I'm busy until 6pm CST, free from ~7pm until midnight
11/17: Busy until 6pm again, but I'll be up much later at night.
Weekdays, I'll have a lot more free time. -
Ah don't think I'm gonna be able to compete. Sorry.
-
At around what time can we start suggesting ideas for future special tournaments? I have several so far that I'm dying to try out with AP players.
Also, the 16th and 17th I can be available at pretty much anytime. During the week however, it's pretty much near impossible due to work.

anytime is fine to share ideas

I'd like to participate in this one, but judging by every battle I've had, I'll just lose 4-6 due to the frog ninja. Haven't had time to focus on a real actual competitive team, been too busy breeding Sandshrews for fun.
I have about 10 monsters that made it through the game that are playable with decent move sets but… only a couple are really good, and none of them iv bred or properly ev trained, or even natured in a lot of cases.

Alright then: possible ideas for future special tournaments
! Wonder Cup
- All six pokemon consist of pokemon obtained from Wonder Trade, with the moves they came with. I've seen this online and it's mostly a just-for-fun type of tournament. Would naturally be very short since it doesn't involve preparation.
It would also run on the honor system.
! Monotype
- Each participant must have all pokemon fall into one of the typings.
! All-star
- Teams consist of 6 pokemon, one from each generation.
I know others aside from myself are working on this one already, so it could be fun. Perhaps to celebrate release of Pokemon Bank so people can get their old pokes?
! Rental
- Each participant submits a certain number of pokemon in order to participate. Upon the eve of the tournament, people "rent" from a selected sample of this pool (randomly chosen or tiered by the tournament organizer) of pokemon for each of their matches.
Also much easier to organize with Pokemon bank. Could be done as a "little cup" so that people can just submit recently hatches babies with tm/egg moves, decreasing the amount of time it would take to raise so many pokemon.
I'll suggest more ideas as I think of them.

A few of those are stuff I've considered and am already planning to do at some point (Like monotype and all-star). I've also considered a rent from a pool option, but I'd need to be confident that all rentals were returned and the like, and it'd be a pain to prepare by myself. Wondertrade tournament feels like it'd be too easy to cheat with though, plus It'd pretty much end up as the lucky guy who gets one or two decent pokemon wins
-
Is it possible to do a Inverse battle online?
-
Okay I'm US, Pacific time
On the 16th I'm a bit busy late morning, early afternoon. I should be free mid afternoon or late night.
-
Monotype… ptity the all electric team that faces the all ground team, the psychic against all dark, or the dragon against all fairy....
I know they get different moves for coverage, but...
-
Hey aaron I asked to be entered in on the 11/1, I want in
-
@Anr:

Sorry about that. I'll add you now
-
This Saturday the 16th I'm basically free all day but the 17th I'm only free at night. Oh I'm US at central time zone. I appreciate all your hard work Aaron.
-
What about Sky Battles? I know you can't do real ones but just using pokemon which could participate in Sky Battles.
Or a team of the three pokemon in ones Friend Safari. -
I like the Friend safari idea, though I dread using Simisage. Also, 6v6 battles are much more fun than 3v3, so maybe allow the option of picking one more pokemon from each slot in your safari.
Edit: oh, and the evolutions of pokemon in your safari should be allowed as well. -
I don't like the friend safari idea, mostly because while some people have great ones, other people (e.g. me) have truly shitty ones. Sure, I have Heracross, but what is one supposed to do when facing friend safaris with two starters? (Venusaur AND Chesnaught? Blastoise and Greninja? Charizard and Delphox? Yea, no thanks)
-
A double-battle would be interesting to see and it would be fun to see all the different pokemon combination people can come with. We can even do a little twist like only having only monotype. We can also do a one-type focus team such as a all water team or a grass team and what not. Just my two cents

This post is deleted!

GMT +1 here.
The only time I can't play is sunday 2pm-5pm. (which i guess is morning-noon for most of you)
Having double/triple battles in the future would be great. -
We should have a mono-Pokemon tournament. 6 of the same Pokemon.
-
How about an anime-only tournament? Only Pokemon that have been on the teams of major or supporting anime characters (one-off characters of the day and movie characters don't count) allowed…

Only if no one is allowed to pick Ash.

Why not, though? It's not like Ash's teams are ever particularly overpowered (by in-game standards, that is)…

Because he has a pool of about 70 monsters to choose from, compared to any other trainer's 2-4.
Hell, even Jesse, James, and Brock only have about 10 each after the entire series…. and that includes things like Chimecho. (And Misty was pretty monotyped aside from Togepi... and stopped getting things after gen 2.)
Still, it would be fun to run a gym leader style theme.
-
I don't know Mugen. Having Mega Charizard, Snorlax, Heracross, Lapras, Light Ball Pikachu and Gliscor/Infernape on your team sounds pretty decent even by current standards. And it's definitely overkill compared to everyone else in the anime.
-
It's more like 50 Pokemon, and that's counting the pre-evolutions that he had at one point (his 30 Tauros don't count). Yeah, that's still quite a bit, but it would also allow for more variety. Also, no Mega Evolutions would be allowed, since that plot point has barely shown up in the anime; only one nameless trainer has made a brief appearance with a Mega Blaziken.
Personally, I don't see a problem with letting people pick from Ash's pool of Pokemon, but that's just me. For the sake of fairness, we could always put it to a vote…

Can I be Giovanni with Mewtwo? If not, I'll just be Gary Oak: mutherfucker.

Electivire, Umbreon, Blastoise, Dodrio, Magmar, Scizor, Golem, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Arcanine, Krabby, Alakazam, Skarmory, Kingdra, Houndoom, Fearow, Pinsir.
Decent selection but a really heavy gen 1 bias. (Aside from Skarmory, Umbreon, and the random gen 4 Electivire) At least 4 potential megas in there though…
-
All I'll need is my Kribby Krabby. I could have sworn he had a Kangaskhan though. Maybe that's just the song. Either way, pretty good team, just no really good special wall.
-
All entrants should make sure that they've added each other.
…I just added y'all.
-
After you're done with this tournament, i'd like to participate in the next one!
-
Oh, you will upload videos of your battles or at least give the code right? I would love to see the fights!
-
I considered stuff like that, but I'm not entirely sure how to go about doing that. I know there's a battle recorder once you've beaten the game, but I'm not sure how sharing options actually work.
Anyways I wanted to talk about format (I'll update the front page with this in a bit): I'm thinking the best format to make things run smoothly will be to have everyone battle against as many other people involved as they can. You will set up the battles on your own and both players should pm me right before the battle to inform me it's starting, and after the battle with the results. I'll keep track of them and post them at certain points throughout (I don't want to do it constantly, because I think it's better if players don't constantly know where they rank compared to everyone else). You don't need to battle everyone if you can't, but the person with the most wins at the end is the winner, so it's to your advantage to battle as many other contestants as possible. Tiebreaker battles will occur in the event of a tie. As a further note, you can only battle against a player once. In the event of a disconnect, players can either talk amongst themselves and decide if one is willing to concede based on the matches direction, or try again. In either case please inform me of if there was a disconnect, why, and who seems to be the one who disconnected. If any given player disconnects three times against a single opponent, that player will lose unless the other player concedes. Please be honest and don't try to prevent losses by disconnecting. In the very end I'll post the top 3 players.
This sound good to everyone? Any complaints or suggestions?
-
Okay, I've added everyone here and just need Luffsopp and Loneassassin to add me back.

After the battle ends you're given the option to save the video. afterwards you enter the vs. recorder and select the video. The game gives you the option of uploading it. After that it gives you a code. If we input the code in our vs. recorder we can watch the battle. It would be awesome :3
-
Not to be a stick in the mud again, but… if anyone really wants to upload videos that much, could you wait to do it (or at least to share it) until after the tournament is over?
Uploading immediately would inherently give those who battle later an advantage, because they'll have any idea of people's individual strategies, leads, movesets, basic team layouts. I know we're not supposed to be taking this "too seriously," but such an easily-avoided handicap just seems unnecessary.
Even forcing people to stick to the same team throughout a given tournament wouldn't get around the advantage given by knowing movesets. -

edit: Don't know why it said can't. It was can. I will totally wait unitl the end of the Tourney xD

Now that I know how videos work, I kind of would like to get codes to verify the outcomes. That said, I understand CCC's stance as well and I am participating. Maybe you can send me results, and I'll ask for the codes to watch the videos after I've finished battling both people in question? It would be a good way to avoid cheating. I was never planning to show any before the end (For various other reasons), and even at the end I'll probably only showcase particularly noteworthy battles (I also don't want people who did really bad to feel bad about everyone seeing how they did)
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Ok want some input from those outside America about when to start. Timezones mean that it's already the 16th in some parts of the world. I've been planning to start once my clock reaches midnight and end a week from then (or earlier if the matches finish before), but I want to make sure that's ok with everyone over there, It shouldn't make a huge difference, but I still want to make sure everyone's fine with that
-
(I also don't want people who did really bad to feel bad about everyone seeing how they did)
Ha ha yeah… that too.
Beyond the "particularly noteworthy battles," it makes sense to just say that both participants should have to consent/agree with each other before making the code public (if either one of them suggests it, for instance). Just out of courtesy.
-
Yeah, that makes sense. Also, could everyone involved give me ingame names so I can update the front page with them? It'll make it way easier for people to coordinate matches

The Google Doc has most of them, by the way, so that should save you some time (and keep the thread from ballooning too much with reply posts)…

In case checking the google doc is too much work:
Ap: Noqanky
Mii: Nertas
Trainer: Neph -
Used the spreadsheet to get everyone besides Luffsopp since he doesn't seem to be on it. Also, updated the front page with rules. I'll be PMing everyone with reminders and rule info soon
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Noqanky pmed me about the possibility of a prize. I already plan on making a hall of fame to celebrate any winners and their teams, but I'd like to know if anyone has any ideas of other types of prizes? One idea I had was a pokemon of choice, barring a few legends that I can't get extras of. If we go that route, I'd be grateful for anyone who'd be willing to help me give out pokemon. Once bank comes around I'll have access to a complete dex, but help with extra legends would be greatly appreciated if anyone asks for one of those

I have a shiny Avalugg that I have no idea what to do with. I would gladly give it as a tournament prize since I won't be able to participate.
