This might be a good way of getting some people into One Piece if they are not already. Opinions?
One Piece Special - Episode of Nami: A Navigator's Tears and the Bonds of Fellowship
-

Sanji calls Nojiko 'Nami-san no onee-tama'. Sanji has gone full-Otaku. ~_~
-
If someone wishes for something specific to be screened, I can post some more, but this is it for now!
Thanks so much for all the screens you took and posted so far. Like you, I was really impressed with the backgrounds when I saw them in screenshots. They made me go all "I wanna live there~" <3
But could you please take screenshots of Arlong of Nami's flashback and post them here as well? Thanks in advance.
-
If the anime was always animated like this I would never…Ever complain about anything...Not fiiller, not pacing...Nothing..
-
Can please someone make a torrent of the 720p version? I would be very grateful for it! I'll seed for sure!
-
For a tv special this was good , the new art was nice and pacing was okay ,
Still compare to the old version thing were to fast so i did not fell as much emotion as before .
I would recommend both version to people each of them have there up and down sides . -
Wow, they used that special camera angle thing when Nami realized that Arlong betrayed her to really sink in the despair, good move.

And yeah there were just a ton of things I was impressed by, from the screenwriting to the character designs and all just aaah why can't the anime look always this good (well I KNOW why, but still..) Also the weather changes (which were kinda cliché, as in the storm clouds disappearing the moment the Big Bad Main Battle ended…) were a nice add!
Also yeah, Nami-san no Onee-Tama?? Did Sanji always call Nojiko that? Also Usopp called Sanji "Sanji-kun" which I know he does occasionally, but still weird though... : D

Here, have a 720p RAW version in one file, direct download or something (I'm watching it now, so the link is legit):
-
lol, it's just him saying tama instead of chama which is a mix of sama and chan - I believe what it really is is just lazy typing, not really something inherently otaku - though I could be wrong. Like in English how we just say lol or wtf.
-
Just finished watching. It was good, but far from perfect. Pacing was too fast, especially during fights - they lacked tension. Walk to arlong park was garbage just as luffy's punch. Animation and art were awesome, not movie quality, but still awesome. Whole TV series should look like that.
All in all - it was good, but too fast. Fast pace ruined it a little.

and news on sub yet :o

My only problem with this special is that some of what they took out were key parts that made the arc awesome/what they changed: Zoro not getting left on the boat to be taken by fishmen was just unnecessary..
It's kind of lame to say this considering how much the anime gets bashed on slow pacing, but this was a bit too fast for me, making it a lot less emotional than the actual arc.Animation was awesome though!

Same deal with Movie 8, I guess. I'm not surprised, but it is unfortunate. There's only so much they can do with the time.
I don't hate the anime, but as Water 7 proved, the anime can do some pretty goddamn incredible things with a solid budget and pacing. It just feels like a huge portion of the anime has no real passion to it, especially nowadays; just another thing they rush out weekly. Maybe I'm just a butthurt fan, but with all of the popularity One Piece has, it doesn't sound too absurd to expect an exceptional anime adaptation, right?

My thoughts exactly. With almost 600 episodes into the story the budget for it should reflect why it's lasted that long.

Sadly, it's exactly the opposite. Toei knows that they don't have to put money in to a One Piece anime because fans are going to watch it, regardless of how good the animation is. You see this all the time in long running series. They can afford to keep them going because they don't have massive budgets. Putting more money in to One Piece would make us happy, but it wouldn't result in higher ratings or more profits for Toei, so it'll never happen.

So any news about the subs? I mean, some episode fansubs come like hours or a day after the episode's airing, and this special is "only" four times longer, so it should be out around today or tomorrow, right?
I can't wait any longer, since this special is the PERFECT thing to show my pals to get them into the series!

The only subber that gets them out fast is funimation. Yibis and Kousei takes at least 3-4 days to get their version out.
