Wonder if there will be some sort of bundle deal with the 3ds xl…I'd be all over that
Sooo….i was preparing for this game by playing previous ones over again after never playing them yet i bought them. I started with Fire Red and beat it but little did i realize that Soulsilver basically has everything fire red has for the most part. Just wasted 40 something hours for nothing, could have started emerald or platinum to at least get most gen 3 and 4 pokemon...sigh.

Not true. The critters you find and raise along the way are completely different.
Yeah, you eventually fight some of the same gym leaders again, but it'll be with a different team build. Theres several hundred critters to choose from, you aren't going to wind up with the same team travelling through two different regions.
Plus, Fire Red is still gen 3 while soul silver is gen 4, they had the physical/special split in there, so they actually play pretty differently.
Its not a waste of time if you have fun, right? If you're ONLY in it to take out gym leaders, you're getting the wrong experience anyway.
I will officially begin the campaign for Poison types to be Super-effective against Fighting types. And maybe, while not super-effective against water, at least be super-resistant to it.

No no lol, I was playing to "catch them all" obviously and enjoy the entirety. Ive "beaten" fire red at least 3 times before this and its an experience ive already lived through. I also had emerald, platinum, and soulsilver b/c of a friend that gave me them lol. Ive also played through emerald several times but not the other two. The point being i decided to play all 4 in release order to actively collect the majority of each generation and the pal park them into the last game i play, being platinum or soul silver. But, I must have ocd because when I found out that you could capture basically everything in fire red with soul silver, i didnt even want to look at my fire red anymore lol.
Basic story in a sentence: "Beat" fire red to prepare transfer to later games, but realized that i could have just played 3 of them (emerald instead) instead of wasting time with another one because im in college as well.
Id also like to try out the 5th gen at some point b/c I recently got excited about the 6th gen games after ive been dying for years for a 3d pokemon game. I havent played pokemon since like 2007 but im glad i am now lol, even being 19 im not ashamed at all hahaha.
BUT, I also dont regret not playing it again for the music. Gen1 definitely had the most best adventure music and the gym leader and elite 4 music was fantastic.
edit, wow i joined this forum at 14, time flies…thats even when i stopped playing pokemon too lmao.
Speaking of Firered and Soulsilver, will Gamefreaks make a Remake of Ruby/Saphire to 3DS?

Possibly. I mean, they've alredy skipped over that step in the Pokemon game cycle by jumping straight into Gen. 6. So maybe after the release of Z?

Yeah, I'd bet on that. It put a little more distance between where we are now and Gen 3. Plus, I don't think Gamefreak was expecting this Gen to be so short originally. I feel it was the pressures to have a game on the 3DS that fueled some of the decisions made for Gen 5 (i.e. not making Ruby/Sapphire remake games to speed this gen along, and Making 2 sequel games because they weren't gonna have 5 games this Gen, with no 1 sequel and 2 remakes). Also, I feel with the 3DS optimizations, we can get a real awe-inspiring look at Ruby/Sapphire in a way similar to (or greater than) the way we saw HeartGold and SoulSilver, that we may not have gotten if the remakes were made in Gen 5.
Only problem I see with remakes now is that the process will be more complex from here forward since it involves creating 3D models of previous regions. It has the potential to be really interesting, but I can see it taking much longer and costing more than adjusting gen I or gen II into gen III and IV graphics.
Or they that remake Y,C and E. Or just Y and C. In 3D graphics cuz it's totally different than the last remake cycle.
There's no need for exaggeration, I just want Hoenn to be part of the DS/3DS world, I mean the Hoenn's Elite 4 could have better Pokemons and animations, like the previous ones(with the exception of Lorelei and Agatha).

Eh, I wouldn't care, personally. Ruby/Sapphire is my least favorite of all the series.

Same and seems to be the case for a lot of people, plus they got rid of contests they would have to reintroduce them if they remake those games.

So? How would that be hard?
R/S/E was my favorite generation, so I would very much like an updated remake.
Ruby and Sapphire came out in 2003 so it will be here either this yr or next yr, the return to that place.
So far there's 5 Pokemon's for X and Y any ideas how much more there would be?

The contest will be replaced by the musicals.

On the other hand, the critters are fully done (thanks 3D pokedex thing) and easier to get new animations for.

Probably about 100-120 (counting starters, legendaries and old evos.) Less than 150.

Who talked about hard? I mean they got rid of it they dont want it anymore.
Sure I'm talking in general, from polls and discussion topics most people have 3rd gen as their least liked.
The contest will be replaced by the musicals.
People don't see to like musicals at all(gets another quote with someone saying they do like them) I wasn't a huge fan of contests but it was definetly better then this I guess.

No this games are coming out this year if we get Z it will come out most likelly in 2015 and then the remakes would come out on 2016 this generation will have 4+ most likelly.
As for the number of poke I guess I'm in the same range as Robby in terms of what I'm expecting, hoping for more but expecting between that range.

Its not the same models as the game ones Robby but yeah they only need to make the world since the new games will have all the pokemon models done, kinda like DP had a smaller region and then they just added new pokemon in BW and used the old sprites for the old pokemon.
Water aside, I did like Hoenn for the amount of variety it had in its land environments. I remember my younger mind being quite impressed the first time I encountered weather effects in the overworld. A lot of the music was kicker too. The tunes and compositions felt quite unique compared to later Generations.
For me it was that I didn't like most of the pokemon and most of the regions.

I definetly didnt dislike it, I just have it has the one I like less, my main thing was really the dex it really got engraved in my mind back then when all I had was the Hoenn pokemon and some new ones, DP with the wireless resolved that issue.
Man people give Hoenn's water routes a lot of flack, but honestly those were the best parts of the region for me. In the beginning of the game when you go on Briney's boat, you get glimpses of what's to come (the shipwreck, trainers, etc.) that really ignite that feeling of adventure. Then as soon as you get Surf, so much optional content opens up, and you can just go about it at your own pace. You get rewarded for going back to those places you just sped over before, so it feels like something's actually been built up to for once. A lot of it is optional so it really does feel like you're discovering some cool secrets sometimes. Pacifidlog kinda, and of course the underwater caverns. And then later in the game, when the legendaries start fucking shit up… Man, the music and rain are epic (though if you bought Ruby you got screwed over with shitty sunlight). It's got that kind of Wind Waker feel, like you're surfing on some wide stormy ocean. Coupled with Dive, those were some of the most atmospheric moments in the entire series for me. There were some of those closed-off sections that could only be accessed by resurfacing with Dive, that really gave off a sense of venturing alone into uncharted territories. And again, they were just enhanced by the rain. The random encounters were annoying, but nothing a few repels couldn't fix.
I've never been fond of the Surfing segments in any Pokemon game, mainly because there's always a chance of running into a wild Pokemon.
Like, couldn't they make it so only the deep parts of the water contain wild Pokemon?

So do you hate all caves?
So do you hate all caves?
There are people who don't hate those godless zubat filled hell holes?

One of the highlights of my childhood was feeling through rock tunnel without first getting flash.
I have never minded caves or water, if random encounters piss you off then there is repel for you it is not like you have no options.
So do you hate all caves?
Not too terribly fond of those either.

Assuming you have enough to buy repels. And even then they don't last too long, it interrupts the gameplay when you apply another, and you're always worried about running out of them.
Thank god BW finally gave you the option to automatically reapply repels.
If anyone here hates the Ice Path I will rip their innards out.
I come into the Pokemon X and Y thread in the hopes of seeing stuff about Pokemon X and Y and everyone's talking about Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald.
Bless this forum.
its my fault sorry lol
No, Its my fault lol.
It's not like there's even much to talk about in regards to X and Y…

Oh you mean that cave where catching a Jynx is incredibly difficult because of it's low appearance rate? Yeah that was a totally "cool" place. [/sarcasm].
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
So do you hate all caves?
Or grassy areas? Yes I'm late to the party sue me.
For those who wondered how to spell the names of the two legendaries:
“XERNEAS” “YVELTAL”
Pronunciation for names in Japanese is:
“Zeruneasu”
“Iberutaru”
And in English it is:
“ZURR-nee-us”
“ee-VELL-tall”
You might wonder why this information is
not available on the Japanese official homepage.
Frankly. This is the first time in a history,
while fans from abroad are getting news faster, than fans in Japan.
In a way, simultaneous game launch,
became a special event for our fans from abroad.
So, everyone who just saw the new legendary Pokemon names:
“XERNEAS” “YVELTAL”,
congratulations !
You are the very first in the world!!!
Ciao!
Is that comic supposed to express what the dumbasses that actually dont play a game since gen 1 or 2 think about the games because anyone who keeps saying that crap clearly hasn't played the new games and doesn't see what was added, changes in the metagame, etc.
I can't find that funny because I read that in non comic form 2/3 times a weak written by some random guy.
/inb4pokemonfanboy doesn't think its funny move along
It's just a light-hearted joke poking fun at the series. On the surface, the games haven't changed too terribly much. The games have stayed very formulaic in that in you pick a fire / grass / water starter, have a rival, collect eight badges, stop the evil team, and then collect the rest of the pokemon. There's always a regional bird, a rodent, Pikachu clone, three stage pseudo-legendary, a legendary trio, a second legendary trio, a roamer, etcetera.
Honestly, would you still buy the games if each Gen progressed as they did, but no new pokemon were introduced. Everything still changes - physical / special split, new moves, move tutors, but you continuously play with the original 151.
Yes, the games have changed, and I honestly can't play anything before Black and White anymore because of the improvements to gameplay, but to a casual fan, the games haven't changed much on the surface.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
And Pokemon is far from broken. Especially with the sales of Black/White and B/W2.

I know that but there are new elements added in every game like you also point out in this post, I may have found it funnier if I didnt hear this without being a joke from idiots all the time like I said.

Yeah it was still part of the japanese top 25 sales like two weeks ago, it was at 23 I think.
So the idea behind the comic is that Far Cry 3. A game that has some improvements yet still on the surface looks like a generic FPS is poking fun at another game that on the surface looks like the same game yet has improvements with each release….
o...k
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

This! Just this right here.
The comic doesn't even understand what they're saying. Nintendo isn't doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, if anything it would be the opposite: doing the same thing over and over and expecting the same results (In this case, massive sales)
"Strategy free turn based system?"
Really? Strategy free? Maybe the first 20 minutes into the game. Which seems to be the entirety of what they know.
That comic fails on so many levels.
They must never have played a pokemon past the elite 4 (and probably not past the first gen or two). Yeah, you can get through the elite 4 by grinding instead of strategy, but a lot of post-game content requires strategy, particularly in places like battle tower, frontier, etc that set your level to a static number. And even more so if you play against real people, which was ALWAYS the intent. Pokemon is a game that was designed around playing with other people in so many ways so to ignore multiplayer strategy is stupid
I bet if I give them a team and put them on even Gen 3 battler tower or Battle Frontier they can't beat one trainer in the tower if they think its just press A and win, I had a friend that didnt like Pokemon because of that but he never liked it since first gen, he said it was just pressing A in a random attack and you can pass the entire game needless to say he never decided to try the game out, he would just see me playing and say he doesn't like it.
Yeah. For all the nostalgia people have over gen 1, it was incredibly primitive when you compare to newer generations and had far less strategy. Abilities, new types, the physical special split were all huge things in regards to strategy. In gen 1 all you really needed was a team of mewtwos and you'd probably be near unstoppable, which is far from the case in modern pokemon
