Okay, this isn't really about X and Y, but I'd like to mention this anyway. So I found a second-hand copy of Platinum at my local game-store and figured, hey, why not, I've never played Gen 4. So I bought it. Predictably there was already a file on the cartridge, so I decided just for fun to see if the previous owner had anything good on there…

He had Darkrai.
And Shaymin.

I just literally stumbled upon a cartridge with two event-legendaries on it. Holy shit.

It cost me about 300 NOK, which should equal… I don't know what country you're from or what currency you use so figure it out for yourself.
Now if that seems expensive for a second-hand game, I'll just say... stuff is generally pricey in Norway.

One slightly lame thing though is that the previous player seems to have killed both Dialga and Palkia, meaning that if I want to get those, I'll have to restart the game. (Then again, I already have both of them registered in the Pokedex in Y, so it's not like there's a pressing need to get those two specifically transferred over to that game. It's mostly the Shaymin and the Darkrai I really want to get moved over). I mean I saw something about how apparently beating the League could bring them back, but apparently that was only for Diamond and Pearl and in Platinum they are, in fact, Lost Forever. AND I ACTUALLY WENT AND BEAT THE LEAGUE TO FIND THAT OUT!!
…It was surprisingly easy considering Cynthia's reputation. Then again, I was fighting with a team where four of my Pokemon were at level 100. And I did specifically look up in advance exactly what I was up against so that I would be able to just instantly hit every Pokemon with the most devastating attacks I could throw at them.

Pokemon games tend to be pretty much full price, even when they're pre-owned (at GameStop, anyway). I need a copy of one of the Gen 5 games so that I can transfer all of the event Legends that I have in my Pearl cart over to X/Y, even though my Dex is complete. They're my babies! Also, my Sinnoh Legends are on that cart, too.

That's about 46 USD, about the same or cheaper than what Platinum sells for in the US. Considering the fact that you got event legendaries and stuff like pokecheck is down/unavailable, that's a bargain.

yep the same applies to UK . The weird thing was that when i was trying to buy Y the prize for pre-owned at some shops was higher that the prize for a new one.

The only exception is pokemon black/white 1 since i found it pretty cheap

Funnily enough, I pre-ordered Alpha Sapphire on Amazon and it's a whole GBP cheaper than Omega Ruby. Weird. And I got Y pre-owned for 27GBP including delivery, but I saw it for 28 at a local game-store, while X was 35 for some reason…

Anyways, I can finally play Y now for the first time, please add me :)

Okay, so my GTS-trading to try and complete the National Pokedex is generally going quite well. By now I have every Pokemon from generations 1-3 except for Mew, Rayquaza and Deoxys… and out of those Rayquaza is the only one that really matters. But I've run into a weird roadblock here. Namely, my method has just been, put up a Pokemon and ask for the next non-legendary Pokemon in the National Dex I need, then once I have that one, breed it and then trade it off again for the next chain. Typically my trades get accepted in like ten minutes or less... but after several hours, my trading-chain is still utterly stuck... on Kricketot. Like, seriously? Judging by its placement in the list and how it apparently evolves at level 10, I would assume that one would be like, the Caterpie of generation 4? How am I getting stuck on the Sinnoh-equivalent of Caterpie? And nobody seems to be offering it on the GTS either...

EDIT: And on a vaguely related note (in that it relates to my goal with all this), I just got a Shinx, which I immediately put in the Daycare to breed...
The resulting offspring was shiny.
I then faced a slightly difficult problem, in that I really wanted to know if shiny-values were determined prior to the egg being made in the same way that IVs apparently are. I ultimately decided, since this COULD mean that this was my chance to finally get my shiny Froakie, I would reset the game and try to breed the Shinx a second time to see if the offspring would still be shiny.
It was.
I am now attempting to see if resetting again and replacing the parents with my two perfect IV Froakies will finally yield the desired results.
FURTHER EDIT: …It didn't. The resulting Froakie was completely normal. Though I still have yet another thing I would like to try...
OH SO MUCH EDIT: Hmmm, so I've been trying tons of different breeding-combinations here... Japanese Ditto + Spanish Shinx, Norwegian Gogoat + Spanish Shinx, Japanese Ditto + Norwegian Froakie, Japanese Froakie (admittedly traded from a Norwegian cartridge that was just set to Japanese language, don't know if that affects the shiny-rates) + Norwegian Froakie, two Norwegian Froakies... The Shinx-offspring has been shiny every time. None of the combinations involving the Froakies have been. So... I really don't know what to make of this.
SHEESH I AM GETTING REALLY TIRED OF EDITING: Okay, I finally found the deciding factor: Giving either parent a Destiny Knot seems to change the personality value and thus make the offspring not shiny. Breeding a female Froakie who was not holding anything with the Japanese Ditto = Shiny Froakie. Breeding my Japanese and Norwegian Froakies together with neither holding anything = Shiny Froakie. So basically, I could get one... but its IVs would not be great. Particularly frustrating is that it has ZERO Sp.Atk IVs... and a Timid nature that lowers its Atk... EH. FOR THE TIME BEING I'LL TAKE IT.

to get that rayquaza just catch a shiny gyarados or dragalge or something with fish chaining place it on gts and in about a day someone will probably trade it for you

Well I could have just gone with a shiny Shinx… But I decided to forgo that chance to instead get the shiny Froakie I have sought after for far too long. Even if the resulting shiny Froakie has less than awesome IVs. (It ironically enough had the EXACT nature that people typically recommend for it though, that being Timid... but sadly that's sort of a hindrance when its Sp. Atk is zero.) But yeah, trade and trade back is really all I need, I just want to have all the Pokemon registered so I can get the Shiny Charm.

Does anyone a) know a good place to find people to trade with (actively looking for certain Pokemon) or b) have good advice on how to trade properly online? The last games I've played where generation III and the only trades happening were through a good old link cable

A)Miiverse, I think that's what it's called, ask Mugen for details.
B)Tough luck here, GTS is not the place to trade "properly." A lot of people have luck through wonder trade though. As for random people asking for trades, they are really hard to please unless you have buttload of rare legendaries and/or shinies.

If you need dex entries or "common" legendaries, I could help you.

Thanks! :) I think I'll start bothering with dex entries once I've advanced a bit further - still haven't reached the 2nd gym as far as wonder trades go, I've gotten some perfect-nature Pokemon like Bagon, Squirtle, lots of Charmanders for some reason, a shitty Beldum, 3 Froakie's with Protean, a Deino, Gible, great-nature Aron, and some other actually useful ones! Loving the feature. I suppose most of the ones I'm getting are GOOD but don't have perfect IV's, which I'm fine with at this stage of the game.

Special Ability is Levitate which makes it immune to ground type moves and im not sure gender and nature is different for all of them,but, my Gengar is quick tempered in Characteristic with serious nature and female.

Well I have so many Protean Froakies it's not even funny… but while they're not AMERICAN, they're still from an English copy of the game, so assuming you want one for Masuda-breeding (which I'm assuming is why you ask for a non-American one specifically) I can't really help you... If that's not specifically what you're after though, I have like an entire box full of 5IV ones and like ten or so with perfect IVs all across the board.

May I have one? I got lucky and actually got a Protean Froakie from GTS but it's not that great. I'm still just before the second gym though. Nothing special here. But I'd really like a usable Froakie, since I started with Fenneking and would like to use some more of the new gen Pokemon in my playthrough instead of old favourites.

Just a reminder the Diancie event started yesterday for those in the USA and runs through till the 16th of next month. It'll be serial code just like the Shiny Gengar. Got mine but I wonder what was up with those two NPCs just barging in and wanting me hand over my newly obtained Diancie? I sped through the text since I had to get ready to go to work but that was just weird.

No worries and sorry for any "bad vibes". Jury duty was boring and I'm still mad I had to go. My legs are sore from two hours of constant sitting. The Espurr and Lampent are spares anyway so I can part with them no sweat. I'll add you tomorrow and I'll try to catch you online at some point to give you Lampent.

I got tired of getting so many soft resets so I settled in a Hasty Diancie with 31 iv's in HP, Sp. Def and speed and hidden power Grass.

Actually, yes I did go to 2 different ones. One of them gave me a few Diancie codes and a Gengar one too, even though that circulation was supposed to stop. I had already given away all but one before I offered here.

My diancie seems ok , not sure if others are different
Mine has a timid nature,hoping that's good, clear body is the passive move and characteristic is likes to thrash around and met in a lovely place, didn't expect the small cutscenes to happen

Checks Diancie's base-stats and moveset
Hmmm, Timid boosts Speed while lowering Attack… Diancie's speed is tied with HP for its lowest stat, and its moveset, at a quick glance, seems to be more leaned towards physical attacks than special ones, though its base stat for both Attack and Sp.Atk is a clean 100.

…Timid really does not look like a good nature for it. Now of course, that's just from a very quick glance, I have no idea what sort of movesets are actually good for it.
