There's going to be a new type, sucka-fools! Embrace it!
How can hell a fairy be stronger than a dragon?
How can hell a fairy be stronger than a dragon?
Fairies are like dragons, myths. It's natural they would be that strong.
Just leaving this here:

Saw this about this week Smash.
Fire starter being Fire/Psychic? Yessss . . . . rubs hands together
As for Fairy type, I'm happy for Posion getting a boost, but would it kill them to give Ice and Grass a boost?
"Just speculation: Love type? Strong against ice (because love warms over people), but weak against poison (such as rumors and etc that can break a relationship)."
This person… I love them. Love type will be the new type.
If something new does get added I hope it is Fairy, we have the egg group already, love(and yes that post was funny) or sound type seems dumb, I wouldn't mind magic type either.
That goat is amazing and only know about this now.
This is what happen when we go to places with no internet.
According to your system (too lazy to do math) where would this Fairy type land, based on the given information?
It is weak to Poison and Steel,
-2
immune to Dragon, super effective against Dragon, Dark, and Fighting,
+4
and Fire and Psychic-type Pokemon take half damage from it.
-2
-2+4-2=0. Perfectly balanced basically. Granted, thats super simplified math, because offenses aren't the same as defenses, and an immunity should count for more than just a resistance, and it doesn't take into account how rare or common the other type of moves might be… but it provides an overall scale of how many things it can hurt and how many things can hurt it. (Basically its math that doesn't show how competivie a thing is... just how screwed or ahead it is overall. Grass is the most screwed, steel the best off.)
Of course, the television special seems to indicate a resistance to ice and maybe a weakness to fight... hard to say. (But if it is boh of those things then its still balanced.)
I hope its fake, cause i dont want a new friggin battle style.
Its the same battle style. Just a new element. No different than adding Dark and Steel and tweaking bug and psychic back in the day.
People don't like change, do they?
If anything its an addition thats been needed and a long time coming to help mix things up in a way that a sheer graphic update alone wouldn't.
Heck, think of how many old critters can become fresh, relevant and new again with a new typing, (Mawile being the most interesting case if it becoming steel/fairy true.) and how much it instantly changes other things like fixing some of the misbalance that dragons have.
Mawile would be…
immune to poison and dragon, neutral to steel
strong against bug, dark, flying, ghost, grass, ice, normal, psychic, rock. (13 resistances!)
weak to... fight, fire, ground? (So maybe 4x weak to fight?)
super effective against Ice, Rock, Dragon, Dark, and Fighting
Unable to hurt fire, psychic, electric, steel, water.
Much more intriguing than just making clefairy into a fairy. (And blissey becomes even scarier if it gets the type.)
Yeah, I'm totally using Mawile if it gains a new type.
If something new does get added I hope it is Fairy, we have the egg group already, love(and yes that post was funny) or sound type seems dumb, I wouldn't mind magic type either.
What's wrong with Sound? It's probably my favorite idea for a new type. And a lot of Pokemon already fit the bill.
The way I see it, if people figure these things are immune to dragons, they'll become quite common counters to popular sweepers like salamence and even legendaries. So it gives a new purpose to poison moves: to take down those fairies.
The type I'm worried about is ice. It's fragile and weak enough as it is, doesn't need another weakness.
Sylveon only seems to resist Ice. We still don't if it is super-effective against it (probably not).
While the easy bet are celfairy, chancey and Audino, (All being just normal tpe) if Mawile can get it, that means anything else in the egg group could potentially get it too… but probably only the monotypes, and probably only the forgotten monsters. (I don't know that something as new as Audino would be up for change.)
Marill, Snubull, Skitty, Snorunt, Cheribi, Pachirisu are all monotype throughout their line. (they're NOT going to change Pikachu, and plusle/minun are too gimmicked already. Togepi gets flying) ... Mawile is the most interesting, but Snubull and Skitty don't do anything, and some of those others provide grass, electric, water possibilities. (Marill is already pretty solid though. Could make Pachirisu distinct from its electric squirell bretheren.
But really just hitting Clefairy and Mawile would make sense, Not drastically changing too many old things, and giving clefairy something to do besides hang out with jigglypuff and be a lousier Chancey.
What's wrong with Sound? It's probably my favorite idea for a new type. And a lot of Pokemon already fit the bill.
Mostly that Fairy is what's been said repeatedly at this point.
Sound… would give Loudred and his soundproof ability a new lease on life, at least... but I don't think anyone likes that line.
The whole "super effective against and immune to Dragons" part sounds like pure fan wank, but if it does cut down on the Outrage spam that's fine with me.
Where are you seeing this where sylvion is imune to dragon and week to poison?

It's what Dark did to balance out the otherwise broken Psychic, so its not totally unprecedented… and dragon itself is generally pretty overpowered... the end game dragon monsters have been pretty consistently broken for years by having basically no weaknesses and nothing that could resist them.
Honestly, another two types would be more appreciated than just the one. Grass needs to be thrown a bone.
What's wrong with Sound? It's probably my favorite idea for a new type. And a lot of Pokemon already fit the bill.
Well, every thing's pointing to this Fairy type for one, though i've liked the idea of that type for a while. There are quite a few sound-based pokemon after all, and even sound-based attacks. But they're just 'normal' instead, nothing going for them. But…I guess it doesn't really fit. -w-
Riding the goat will soon become a thing. And I'll gladly join it. Love the new designs so far.
I hope the rumor is completely true. As for the episode of Smash, I took the ice breaking as a possibility of it being neutral, not just super effective. What did the woman do, a karate chop? Does that mean in can learn fighting moves? Who knows?
But at least we are almost guaranteed a new type at the moment.
Also I saw a great quote about fairy tales and dragons. Let me find it.
“Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”
― Neil Gaiman, Coraline
Freakin epic!
And here I thought interpretive dance was a lost art.
Sylveon only seems to resist Ice. We still don't if it is super-effective against it (probably not).
This would actually make sense.
Because the other types that resist Ice are Fire, Water, and Ice. All of which are already taken.
They would still have reason to suspect that she was Steel-type. So, the skit still makes sense.

None what? its one of my favourite pokemon lol.
Marcello I'm not sure it fits the game just because some pokemon like the Wishmur line and Palpitoad line for example use sound based attacks, it just seems weird but maybe thats just me, plus I think people go get that idea from Naruto, since I've never seen that type in a monster raising game(just like I haven't seen fairy), Fairy is actually a term ingame already.
The whole "super effective against and immune to Dragons" part sounds like pure fan wank, but if it does cut down on the Outrage spam that's fine with me.
I still think what the guy wrote is speculation or fan wank as you call it based on the rumour of Fairy Type probably being Sylveon type, the Fairy type thing has been talked from the star do it being being based on Nymphs, so while I believe we migth get a new type, even if its Fairy unless it matches 100% to what the guy said, I'm not believing him.
So I'm guessing all this stuff is supposed to be taken with a small grain of salt? I wanna make sure I don't mix the facts we have recently recieved from official sources with fan speculation.

Yes what I posted was a guy on Bulbagarden speculating on what happened in Smash, nothing is confirmed, hopefully Masuda ends this discussion next week when he comes to Smash.

Steel actually resists Dragon. That's why my Ice Punch Metagross saw a lot of use in the World Tournament.
Yeah, Fairy isn't official yet, but it seems incredibly likely.
Steel actually resists Dragon. That's why my Ice Punch Metagross saw a lot of use in the World Tournament.
And thus you have the one major existing counter to them. A steel type with an ice attack. That's reeeally specific and doesn't much occur naturally. (Also probably one of the reasons metagross is such a common sight in advanced championship teams)
Steel resists damn near everything, it's not unusual for it to be strong against something.

The FACTS:
Sylveon has a new type. It is weak to Poison, and either strong against or resistant to Ice.
Everything else is technically unconfirmed, although it's quite a bit more likely than a "rumor".
Gotcha. I honestly think the whole Fairy Type has weight to it behind the rumors.
I just seems more plausable than bs like… LIGHT types, because "Dark types exist despite having nothing to do with element" kinda deal
I really don't see why light type would be so bad. At the very least, it wouldn't be unexpected. It's not like duality is anything new to the Pokemon universe.

But it wouldn't be duality. Dark type is evil type originally. Fight is its counterpoint. A Light type wouldn't be a balnce against anything.
Fairy/Dragon seems to be the duality being made. (So what screws Fairy up?)
I didn't realize fighting was meant to work that way. I kind of lose track when they start making things up.

Huh, would something like light even have to be a duality? Like you said the dark isn't actually an element or anything, it's just called dark here and based around sorts of trickery. A light type could be just a varied, no? Not necessarily light as in good, but light as in…well energy? The Sun, stuff like that. Could be a type that'd help things like Sunflora, not to mention giving grass another resistance possibly. Well it's only an idea. I'm fine with a new type no matter what kind.
Well, Dark is supposedly dirty fighting. Judging by most of the attack names that is.
I didn't realize fighting was meant to work that way. I kind of lose track when they start making things up.
Yeah, it resists dark and does double damage to it.
It's easy to overlook cause there's four other things it hurts and four things it doesn't.
Dark does the same thing to ghost and psychic types, while psychic destroys fight.
So fight/dark/psychic is a trio, like grass/water/fire is. Which is why its all the more interesting if these starters get those secondary typings, particularly in an order that still leaves them weak to the same starter they begin weak to.

Grass and fire between them already covers most of that. Sunny day and solar beam and such.
Light as a "healing" type would make some sense, but fairy seems to cover most of that ground.
What I'd really like to see is
1-water types divided up more in some way
2-normal types generally given an extra typing
Mostly cause there's just soooo many of them.
sorry to ask again but were you saw that sylveon is week to poison and resist ice?

Yeah, Fake Tears, Foul Play, etc that is the connection, Dark type pokemon are usually agressive natured pokemon or tricksters.

There was a game in this week Pokemon Smash, they were trying to guess Sylveon type, the conclusion they got was that its not Figthing or Steal and its apparently weak to poison and strong to Ice or wtv.

So the day that i'm far away from the internet is the day they decide to show worthy information LOL.
Thanks for answering.
Seriously hope it's not strong against Ice. It's hard enough having Ice types in the field already, and I tend to like them.

Hmm fair enough, though Light wouldn't be so effective against grass, unlike fire. Light as healing type stuff would work as well, assuming fairy doesn't cover that. I…have absolutely no idea what sort of things Fairy types would do. Magic?
Oh hell yeah, plenty of that for certain. Especially after...was it generation 3? Who wanted to fill the region with tons of water types with little differences? Either way Water could use some more love in terms of diversity, and it shouldn't really be so hard to do, considering the diversity of fish in the sea. Though...what kind of type i'm not so sure. Going back to the sound idea, perhaps some could gain that? Wailord for instance being a candidate based on actual whales habits of using those echoes. Or at least they could mix around the types we already have a bit better.
The same perhaps for normal. Well, fairy could split up quite a few of the...cutesy normal types. Sound as well since so many music based pokemon are normal types. Exploud, maybe even jigglypuff? Hey the anime always wanted to focus on her singin'. -w-
Electric/Normal seems weird to me. In fact, Anything/Normal is weird to me, excluding Flying/Normal, Normal/Flying or whatever.
I hope that electric lizard, if it has evolutions, substitutes normal for something else. Perhaps Electric/Steel, or maybe even Electric/Dark (because of it's yellow/black coloring). It doesn't have to substitute, just…Electric/Normal hurts my eyes.

Yeah, that's kinda weird. It's also called the "Generation Pokemon", what's up with that?
As in an electric generator, I bet.
Apparently it receives energy from the sun and transforms it into electricity, it also has a move Parabora Charge that works like Absorb but for electric type, so it generates energy from the sun, thats where the classification comes from.
@Pokejungle:
Erikitel (Erikiteru), it is the “Generator Pokémon” and is an Electric/Normal-type; learns a new move called P****arabola Charge. Whilst damaging surrounding Pokémon it restores its own HP. It absorbs sunlight and generates electricity
I guess it will be a buff for Sunny Day teams in the case that it gets Solar Power. And the electric-type giga drain would help it to deal with the loss of HP per turn.
