You'd have to pay them to include 2 hours of Toonami on Adult Swim, every night. 1 hour of One Piece starting from the first episode, 1 hour of Naruto/Bleach. Every night. Including weekends. No breaks except holidays.
TBH it'd be more enjoyable than the constant King of the Hill / Family Guy / American Dad reruns they do every night instead…

A lot of people only buy One Piece DVDs because they contain the premieres. That's what would hurt them. But if the ratings were good, maybe people would buy the boxsets. I don't know anime fan mentality.
Just watched the new episode. Didn't know Funimation used Viz's lyrics for Binks' Sake. I wonder if they'll use them in the dub.
If One Piece were to come back to Toonami (and now that Naruto has returned, my faith in that has risen greatly) they would have to start with the first episode. If they started somewhere in the middle like others have suggested, and someone said this as well, the Toonami viewers who haven't been exposed to One Piece simply wouldn't care. No one can jump into a show mid-way and expect to be able to understand anything less than the characters' names. It would be like if Toonami acquired the rights to Naruto Shippuden, and then just started with episode 245. Neon Alley understands this, that's why they air 4 episodes each week leading up to their eventual weekly premieres, but then again they have the freedom to do so (they have the freedom to do that with One Piece though, too 
).
One might argue that it will take ages to reach Water Seven, or Alabasta, or any of your other favorite arcs. The Naruto Vs. Sasuke fight is pretty much the Water Seven of Naruto, and that's going to take some time to reach going by one episode a week.
But I'm just looking forward to watching Naruto on TV again. I'd feel the same way with One Piece. And hey, whether its Naruto or One Piece, if they want to watch the latest episodes or catch themselves up faster they can just buy the DVD's.
(Or watch episodes on FUNimation.com and Crunchyroll if they don't want to pay very much and don't mind subtitles)

They're getting close to finishing the good stuff, I think. That train portion was a bit weak, omitting the sniper island song.

If they're close, if not exactly the same, it's because they're both direct translations of the words in the song which is the same in both the manga and anime. When it comes time to dub, they'll be adapting those basic lyrics to make them singable in English, so it won't be exactly the same.

Viz's version of the song was made to be sung to the tune of Binks' Sake. The syllables match up exactly. It'll fit the lip flaps.

I don't get why people keep on saying this. Is it because you're afraid people won't get interested in the series because the beginning episodes aren't as good. Let me challenge that notion right there. You should all remember that the vast majority of us started from the beginning and we were hooked by one simple thing: Monkey D. Luffy, Zoro, and Nami. And soon in Usopp and Sanji. You can argue the East Blue saga is not as good, but the fact is that it was these arcs that got us hooked to the characters and interested in the world, the story, and basically the adventure as a whole. In fact, starting from Water 7 means nothing for those who aren't invested in these characters (as well as Chopper and Robin). For one, the Luffy vs Usopp fight has far less impact for those who don't know how close the crew is at this point. Same for Robin's situation, really.
Starting from the middle of anything is not a good idea unless it's a very episodic series, but One Piece ties together everything all the time and must be viewed from the beginning.

We had this conversation already. There are benefits to drawing in new fans, but which is better? The benefits of popularity or new episodes on tv (which will also add to the popularity, though not as much)? Either way, we benefit from it being on TV, so…
You're right about us having this conversation before. I've been reading the discussions on it and all it really does is go in circles. Neither side is going to agree with the other so there's really no point in even talking about it. It's not like it'd be our decision anyway.

As for the neither side agreeing. I think everyone agrees that it's better for the general public and One Piece's popularity to start at episode 1.
The root of the disagreement is whether people want to see new episodes on tv or remain satisfied with bi-monthly episode releases.
But really, the DVDs will always stay ahead unless they had 1 hour blocks- there are 12 episodes per set and 8 weeks in two months.

I don't get this argument either. Clearly current fans are getting new episodes on the boxsets, so why do we need them on TV as well? Before you say so they don't have to buy the sets, that defeats the importance of One Piece selling well here in the states in order to ensure we continue getting new episodes.

Maybe not, but what I'm saying is I'd encourage people to buy the DVDs first and then worry about TV airings.
I still can't believe 4kids got this series in the beginning. The 4kids dub discussion threads here are an amazing retrospective of the trainwreck that was 4piece/dub piece/one piece of crap/etc. Almost done with Season 4 part 2 and I hope season 4 part 3 arrives before Christmas.

It hardly mattered anyway as CN was going under management changes,and at this point was done with anime. As others have stated naruto was a huge ratings grabber but still got canned.

Which was my exact point from the beginning. It never stood a chance to begin with.
Wasen't the One Piece going to go into reruns of the rainbow mist again but was removed by Bakugan(shudder) instead. CN was purging anime so why would they get another batch of eps after they played a 52 episode batch of 4kids(28) and funi(24)?

That's not true. Cartoon Network said they dropped the show due to poor ratings, but I'm pretty sure it's also because they wanted to drop anime in favor of shows that give them merchandising profits. By the way, I'm pretty sure Cartoon Network didn't acknowledge the differences between the dubs; to them it was the same show.
