For Dofla it is. Dofla has been introduced as a character who is against "Roger and Luffy's" ideals of what a pirate is. Hence the whole "Start of a new Era of pirates". I was under the impression that Dofla didn't believe in the One Piece and was involved in piracy solely for the money and the power.

Maybe he wants to be a new type of Pirate King, unlike Roger (who wasn't even aiming to be Pirate King and just became one) and Luffy (who wants to be Pirate King since he's smitten with the romance of adventure, and what's more adventurous than becoming the Pirate King?)

Yes, I got the same feeling as well. I remember in last week's thread Aohige had brought up the point that Dofla seems to be a man who sincerely cares for his "henchmen". With this chapter, Dofla gave off a vibe that's very reminiscent of Luffy (to an extent) and Vergo and Monet gave off that Strawhat vibe. Monet and Vergo seem to actually care about their master's dreams and ambitions. I'm very satisfied on how they have been developed a long this road.

Doflamingo seems like another antithesis to Luffy. If Luffy's priorities were switched, and had the mindset of "sacrifice anything to achieve my goal, even if it means sacrificing my mates", he'd be Doflamingo.

That difference in the two captain's ideology will probably be a focus of their clash. It'll be delicious.

Thoughts on the chapter: it was really good, and had a killer ending before the break,
Every single scene involving Doflamingo was great, especially his conversation with Vergo. However, the best panel is when Dofla looks utterly depressed as he prepares himself for everyone's death. It just goes to show that, unlike most villains we've seen in One-Piece, he actually cares for his crew.

I don't think there'll be a showdown with Doflamingo on this island. If there is, it'll involve everyone working together to bring him down with Luffy, Law, and Smoker leading the way.

I remember it being 5 bird DFs, which would limit it to just Pell, Marco and possibly Lafitte. Of course it was a long time ago that I read that.

I mean he uses his powers to control their dead bodies, sorry if that wasn't quite clear. If they were alive all he would have to do is control them and have them break themselves out of the ice then sick them on the SHs and co.

The old guy was introduced when we we're first introduced to Dressrosa; however, he does look like one of the elders from the gorosei.

There could be a relationship as others have pointed out.

Well, Oda said to expect a very dangerous person to begin moving soon, right? This chapter title kind of screams that he meant Doflamingo.

Anyway, it was a decent chapter I suppose. The heart switch might have been more enjoyable if it hadn't been so widely predicted. And why do you insist on making it look like characters are dead, Oda? Even with something as "guaranteed" as being impaled in the heart, Monet is still likely to live with One Piece durability. If she doesn't then Oda's taken a very idiotic step by making important characters actually die (sans in the past, Ace, or WB).

Ending was pretty awesome though. Doflamingo can fly, huh? Doesn't look like Moon Walk so maybe he's weaving himself around with wires? Interested to see what it really is. The line about him wanting to be Pirate King is weird though.

Anyway, off to bed with me.

Hold on. Doflamingo can control the "fabric" of the universe. That would be incredibly overpowered but it would make some kind of sense on how these wires aren't visible and how he can fly using them.

Doflamingo has Shishio vibes all over him.

You know, the man who was willing to sacrifice his mistress, just to achieve his goal?
And the mistress sharply told Kenshin and his crew that they know nothing of Shishio, and that she is willing to die for his cause.
That doesn't mean Shishio didn't care for her, or for Houji. He knew they'd give their lives for his cause, and took their sacrifices as necessary foundation for achieving his goal.

Man I thought I was going crazy that I was seeing Vergo as a parallel to Zoro (the whole loyalty to their captain and his dreams, being a powerhouse, etc), but you just summed up what I've been feeling about Doflamingo's mindset perfectly. And omg, a fight between those two would be epic.

Unless someone can provide a scientific explanation on how it is still possible to be alive after being stabbed in the heart, it's really impossible to see Monet still being alive after this. No, saying something like "because it's Oda" is not a valid answer, though people will still use that as an excuse anyway. Surviving an explosion is more realistic, if you ask me.

Anyway, I'm neutral on this.

I have to say, I'm starting to come around to your interpretation of Doflamingo's character… Menacing though he may be, he's appearing less and less the "manipulative sociopath" every chapter.

He'll be an interesting one to delve into, for certain.

To be fair, if you got stabbed in the heart and recieved immediate medical attention, you'd have a 1/3 chance of surviving.

Only issue here is we know she's already been stab bed in the heart, the wound is there. Phasing won't do her any good, she'll still bleed out.

Her sacrifice was beautiful. Dofla farewell to his men in last two chapters are really heartwarming.
It makes them all look like real people (oustandingly bad and cruel people, but still), unlike previous arc moronic villains, and some other characters.

I thought everyone would be saying this… but... am I the only one who thinks those two lines trailing behind him are wires? I know they might be motion lines as well, but they seemed quite solid, and could easily be described as coming from his hands. Makes me think it's some kind of Spider-man/Catapault type action. Not sure though. Still awesome either way.

On a different note, great chapter. Although, I get the feeling that Oda is inspiring a whole new fetish spawning from One Piece fans out into the world. Baby 5 in that gun pose? That's hentai material right there. It'll literally be a money shot.
