Toei knows that they can't f that one. Otherwise, they are likely gonna lose a big portion of the anime watchers in Japan (the fangirls and teenage boys that is).
! This was undeniabely the coolest fight among the terrible ones of this arc (not very good from the series standards)

! I kinda wish Luffy was the first character that actually defeats Smoker for the first time (payback cause the VA has always to outmacth Luffy) and having Luffy discussing with Smoker when they party. However, Law pretty much ruined all these potential awesome moments and as well as this arc.

Honestly, it wasn't that bad, especially looking at in what kind of situations Smoker ends up in, you're really exaggerating.
Looking forward how they'll handle it.! I feel like Smoker constantly being "owned" isn't really that bad because most of the time it isn't because he's weak, it's because he's handicapped. None of the losses in this arc were legit except this one.

! Eh, sorry, I pretty much disagree. I don't think Law defeating Smoker is necessarily a bad thing, nor do I think he in any way ruins Punk Hazard. Law is Luffy's contemporary, so the net effect is still the same - Smoker is no longer inherently stronger than Luffy, in my mind. To be honest, I think Oda's saving the Luffy and Smoker match for further down the line when the stakes are presumably higher. Law defeating Smoker gives us Tashigi-Smoker and Smoker-Tashigi, which are hilarious, so I'm very okay with it.

Every time someone brings up the obvious fact we didn't get an opening, while regarding the fact nothing ANNOUNCED there'd be a new opening, I get five dollars and the rights to use your body for one night indiscriminately and mercilessly.

Monet was introduced, yet she didn't get one of the info boxes. That's when she got it in the manga. Weird.
I love every scene CC is in so far, though. Every time he laughs, all of Toei's shortcomings just melt away.

That was a good episode!
Some great animation with Smoker vs. Law and while it felt a little dragged with tashigi at the start, the episode was tolerably paced. -
I shall give this episode a 3 out 5 Law's smirks.

Yeah, that vastly exceeded my expectations. The action was really good, and there were no long drawn out filler scenes of people doing nothing. Instead, they actualy seem to have extended the fight a bit, which works really well in this case (as opposed to Zoro or Luffy's fights with Hody)

Tashigi's upper half took an entire minute to fall on the floor. lol
Aside from that, the rest of the episode was good. Law vs. Smoker had nice animation. I also like how sickly Monet looks.

5/5 episode right here. If they were all more like this, I wouldn't have to bitch so much and my job would be easier. Albeit more boring, perhaps.
Pacing was great. There were plenty of fillers and stretched out bits, but they were done perfectly well and it blended together with the canon seamlessly. Aside from a few wonky shots, the Smoker vs. Law fight was great. Animation was the smoothest I remember since some of the Luffy/Hody stuff. They even made Smoker slightly more threatening than I remember him to be in the manga. Good for him and his fanboys.
Brava, Toei. A great comeback after the break. Take five.

I'm trying to think and I can't really remember the last time we had a fight as well executed as this in the anime. I mean it was well animated and the choreography was fantastic in my opinion. Although I totally expect the next episode to suck even worse than normal as compensation

This could have been much, much worse. I'm probably suffering from lowered expectations, but this episode was pretty darn good. The Law versus Smoker stuff was definitely well done and watching it be extended didn't make me want to shoot myself in the foot.

Really hoping the way this fight was handled will carry over for the rest of the big fights and action sequences this arc. Although its more likely that this will be the odd one out and the rest will be decent to bad, especially since Law vs Smoker was two very hyped up characters fighting.
! Even Luffy vs Caesar probably won't be given this type of attention, much less stuff like Smoker vs Vergo (or Sanji's brief encounter with him for that matter)

If they're not going to use a new opening they should at least change the animation to fit the events of the current arc, like what they did with Dragon Ball Kai and Toriko.

Maybe this improvement is in response to the drop in the ratings. One Piece has been in the 6th spot in the top 10 during the entire duration of this arc.
