Well if they can be switched around I still have hope for Laxus and Gajeel joining up. Probably will just be a Dragon Slayer free for all later anyways.

I'm already not getting my hopes too high for Elfman, because it's what probably will happen. But I guess he'll only leave the team after this arc, maybe he'll stay for 2 arcs if we get a Rescue Wendy arc.
This is an all-Fairy Tail arc. Every member (at least the ones caught in Fairy Sphere) wants to participate, not only Team Natsu. So it's not like Elfman tries to partner up with Team Natsu, he just wants to participate in the tournament in the name of his guild.
If a rescue arc for Wendy comes (I somehow doubt that), not only Elfman will help out. It will either be most or whole of Fairy Tail (like in the Phantom Lord arc) or only Team Natsu (as Wendy is a de facto member of the team, just like no other Fairy Tail member save upcoming member Juvia helped out Erza in Tower of Heaven). -

So the tournament must have been really popular this year to force 100+ guilds to form just to compete in it.

In all seriousness, good to see Elfman in the team. Wendy may have been sexually assaulted though. Not good.

The Sky Labrinth thing… was kinda cool. Rushed, but cool. It pleases the inner dungeon crawl gamer in me.
Aside from that, I liked the panel where Lucy is picturing a gangster Wendy and the one where the team shows this smug expression like they won. I'm hoping the games in the actual tournament are like this but more extended.
Wait. This is Fairy Tail. I won't hope for it, but it would be nice.

In my opinion, Mashima is pretty good at starting the arc, but usually fucked up in the middle-to-the-end = =

Ummm…I have no clue how to introduce this week's chapter. Let's just go.
Chapter 266: Sky Labyrinth
The Skinny: Team Natsu returns to the hotel to find that Wendy isn't back yet. But bigger problems arise when the preliminaries suddenly begin with the first obstacle being to make their way though a labyrinth sphere made with the city's buildings and floating in the air. The group manage, just barely making it into the 8th place slot. Meanwhile Lisanna and Happy find Wendy's purse. Not good.
My Thoughts: Wow way to hit the ground running. No next day opening ceremony, no trash talk with opponents. Just straight to the action, considering the last chapter was sorta the build up, this was a great way to follow it. We even get a new Lucy spirit, it's not terribly interesting but its great to see her break out some new ones. And hey Elfman joins the group for a little, we hardly get to see some action from here so I'm not complaining. The curb-stomp of Twilight Orge again was hilarious, seriously I burst out laughing at how fast they got taken out.
The labyrinth was actually a neat idea especially with it shifting. Made for some nice tension plus it was great seeing the group having to use their brains to get through the maze. Course that probably the reason they they took so long too but hey I doubt they come from under the underdog status so early. I actually didn't mind the rushed nature of the maze, seriously all we would've gotten was the group just running around beating up people. Would've been nice seeing how the other teams did too but I guess we'll save that for next time.We also get a lot of sinister food for thought. Erza does bring up some good points how the contest was so quick to knock down the number of guild in such an instant. Then again she could just be paranoid but when has Erza been wrong about this stuff. Wendy and Charle's disappearance also brings some nice tension as well, though pretty sure its Raven Tail. Considering they had a mole with Gajeei before the time skip, I wouldn't put it past them if they had been spying on the group before the games. That's my theory at least.
But overall I dug the chapter, there wasn't really any complaint I could think of. So I'd say that a score for Mashima this week. We'll see if he can keep it up next time.
Grade: A -
i'm glad to see elfman getting some more spotlight. Him and levi are like the 2 important characters who end up being pushed a side for the main guys. Nice to see some change

That does seem to be the general consensus. Good beginnings, then it all goes downhill unfortunately.

That aside, this has got to be the first chapter I enjoyed since… sixty chapter ago, huh... well, since the chapter when Gildartz has shown Natsu his place. Nothing terribly bad this time, like at all. Nice designs, nice character interaction, nice Elfman sideburns. Thing were moving a bit too fast, it would have been nice to see some more of the labyrinth, but at the same time Mashima had less time to make a wrong move. I still have no expectations for this arc and this manga.

Nice chapter but so rushed,Elfman looks kinda silly in some panels but im glad the guy is participating with the team now if they get rid of Natsu it would be perfect.

It was realy just lingerie with a whip.
The moment she pulls out the full body skin masks and chains is when I'm gonna start getting worried. This just makes me thing she has an exhibitionist streak that's dying to get out, which sort of explains the "armour" she usualy wears.

Just wait, there will be a mage with ''Needle Magic'' that will pierce Elfman with it and all the air inside the muscles will escape, turning him into a wimp and giving Mashima a reason for calling a member in the ''default team'' to defeat the guy.

Sexy nurse then.I'd like to see the maps people make un the fly that are able to adequately chart a completely 3 dimensional labyrinth. Oh well, the premise was cool, too bad nothing was really done with it.
Also, isn't this thing just an informal, just-for-fun magic festival, which brings nothing but prestige and a completly unofficial "top guild" monicker to the winner? Why is it that these things by definition have no regard whatseover for the lives of the participants in shonen?

Pretty good chapter but Raven Tail stepping up into the main villain category while not being the strongest guild there is a bit meh.
That main guy with the mask is definitely Luxus imo he has the furry coat and everything -

Also Mavis being a recurring character would be nice.

Okay chapter, but there's really not much to comment on. A lot of these guys will obviously be fodder, so it's kinda hard to get concerned about anyone other than Raven Tail.
The jokes at Elfman's expense did make me chuckle, though.

i quite enjoyed this chapter. I wonder how the 7 days of tournament will work? my guess is that they'll eliminate one team a day thru races and the like (with FT inevitably struggling thru each one) until the final day where a free for all between the last two guilds will result in the power of friendship saving the day for Fairy Tail.

Gajeel under the mask, goes back after three months and tells them what happened on Tenrou island. I think he's still a double agent (as in his allegiance is with FT) but it doesn't mean he's constantly reporting to Makarov all the time.
