sweet ep, they even thought of the sogeking's mask behind sanji when he enters the wagon where are usopp and franky.
That was in the manga too. You can see it lying on the floor when you see a shot of the defeated Jerry and the other guys.

yeah i know, but i was "afraid" they'd forget it. and it's in the second wagon, not the one with jerry i think.

I am very much looking forward to SogeKing's appearance in the anime. I have no doubt that Kappei Yamaguchi will kick much ass with Usopp's superhero persona.
At any rate, with this being the first episode I've seen directly on Japanese TV, I thought I'd give my thoughts. First off, I was surprised that there was such an extensive recap before the opening theme even came on. Is that usually combined with the pre-title recap, or just ditched in the DVD release?
Second, it might just be because I haven't been following the recent portion of the anime (just the manga), but yesterday's episode seemed like it was the B-team to me. If anything, the preview for the next episode looked like the characters were back on-model.
Third, Ikura-san's Walking Point Chopper = =(. Has there been a date announced for Ohtani-san's return yet? She's only having a baby… Waits for the inevitable thrashing by the forum's female denizens
Next, I spotted censorship! In the manga, Nami said she had Meat and Alcohol brought to the train, but in the anime, she said Meat and Drinks. =)
And… I guess that's it. Looking forward to the next episode!

That before-the-opening recap is actually pretty new. It started around the fight between Luffy and Franky on Dock 1. I assume they will be the same once they are released on DVD.
To add to KatanaJon's comments, the "recap" isn't totally a recap, either. There tends to be "new" material before the opening as well. For example, of the 3+ minute pre-opening material this week, only about the first minute or so was recapping the last episode.

Haha. Well, the OFFICIAL One Piece site still says she's ill. I don't know where ANN got their info about her having a baby from. But I really miss her already too. :(
This episode is a perfect example for both how good and how bad the anime get´s sometimes. The scene where Zanbai was begging Luffy to let the Franky Family join him on his way to Enies Lobby is definitely a scene that shows how good the anime is. The scene comes over much more dramacit and with that better then in the manga. Not that it is a too dramatic scene itself but thanks to the voice acting and the background music, it just touches me more on an emotional level then it could in the manga.
Another scene where the anime shines was how Rocket Man set off. Again, thanks to the music and the proper usage of cuts the scene comes over much veeeeerrry good. I said it before and I´ll say it again, when the animators would concentrate on just adapting Oda´s story well to the audio visual media then the anime would have surpassed the manga long ago.
But unfortunally the guys from Toei fly too close to the sun sometimes. It wasn´t that bad in this episode but it still left a "WTF?" moment for me. And that was in car 6. That car was oviously the freight car as mentioned in the manga. And on one side it was but on the other side it was a guest car. That looked so much totally out of place. Ok, it really was no biggie this time but still it looked so totally wrong and truly made me go "WTF?". I didn´t mind the two mini bosses though. Having them in the episode didn´t ruin anything for me.
And please Toei learn how to make decent pre-opening stuff. I don´t mind if only the last episode recap comes before the opening. But after the recap they show already new footage and you feel already as if you are in the new episode and then out of a sudden the opening starts which takes you out of the flow again. I´ve seen commercial breaks that weren´t as annoying as this misplaced opening
Oh, almost forgot it was so cool to see decent looking characters again. Zoro actually mostly looked like in Oda´s early chapters (which would be my favorite version of him). Oh yeah, I also wish to have Choppers old voice back as soon. There is only one true Chopper-Sugei (sp?).
Next, I spotted censorship! In the manga, Nami said she had Meat and Alcohol brought to the train, but in the anime, she said Meat and Drinks.
In japanese, alcohol is the same as drinks. (nomimono)
If I'm wrong, don't beat me up, I'm currently taking Japanese 102 right now.
I think she says ''sake'' in the manga, which is pretty much always just alcoholic drinks, whereas ''nomimono'' more denotes beverage-like substances. And stuff.
It could depend on the context. Like in English if you say "want to go out for a drink?" It almost always means alcohol.
Yeah, but that aside, the point is the edit was obviously made to avoid explicit mention of alcohol.
Which leads me to wonder if they've done this kind of edits before… Luffy's unintentionally hilarious ''I don't drink'' Loguetown filler excluded. I'm talking actual edits. What with Zoro's alcoholistic tendencies.

Ehhh, alcohol is usually osake or biiru. Nomimono is like all-inclusive drink, which could be alcohol, juice, etc etc. Think rectangles and squares; all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares.
As far as the episode goes ? Top-notch animation. Definitely A-Team. (… heh.) Like Mog, I think the problem in quality isn't that the animation sucks, more that they're trying to fit the animation closer to what Oda's style has become (I mean, hello, it's Toei, it's not like they're short on change or anything) and it might not translate to animation too well. which I don't think is the case, more or less it's animation teams just being weaned in, but eh. Either way it was awesome. Rocketman detail = <3
I don't know, I remember a lot of instances where they clearly said "sake". I never did understand why they had Luffy say "I don't drink", though…
Edit: I was responding to Mog's post.
I'm not sure if OP series animation is ever "top-notch" though. :P
Compared to a lot of other stuff, it's top of the line… >_>
Wasn't there only one swordsman Sanji beat up in the manga?
Those two stache-brothers weren't at all there (or at least prominent) in the manga, but Toei could've gotten their designs off some bystander or something. Putting them in was kind of useless, but I thought it was fun and a lot better solution to filling up the episode than taking several more seconds panning over the train or Water 7 or something. And stuff.
Noticed Sanji refers to Franky as a 'tako' (octopus) in #255 when they were arguing in the freight carriage. Which goes back to that little discussion between a difference in the manga between Null & stephen's translations of that exact scene.
Looks like at least the anime definitely has Sanji referring to Franky as a 'tako'. Which relates back to Luffy's original shipwright doodle in ch.323, in which Sanji makes the comment "that guy looks part-octopus". Which prompted others to speculate that perhaps there's a connection, maybe some Oda crewmate foreshadowing between Sanji's tako-related remarks in chapter 323 & in 365.
Anyways, just thought I'd mention that.
very observant, now it just blows the whole foreshadowing thing back into play.

Thanks for pointing that out Battle Franky. I completely forgot and ingored that. Good to know. =)
Wow, I never noticed either. Thanks for pointing that out.

 WTF? This is true? None of my teachers mentioned this. wat tha crap?
I heard that ,because of the Olympic Winter Games, there will be no one piece on the 12th and 19th.
What is with the 26th? the olympic winter games aren't over at this time
As said previously there'll be no One Piece on either the 12th or 19th due to the winter games.
I know. but i wanted to know if there is one piece on the 26th? ^^ Because this is the last day of the winter games i think.
Fuji TV only have events scheduled on the 12th & 19th cutting into One Piece's timeslot. I don't think it's like a complete 24 hour coverage or anything across the three weeks. The 26th should be clear for ep. 257.
Good. Thx
I saw some screenshots of 256 at K-F. Looks good. No Sogeking yet, though….looks like we have to wait a few weeks.
Pretty good episode. A lot of fluid animation in the Rocketman scenes, good to see Tilestone & Lulu again. Though, this episode barely covers even one chapter (ch.366) due mainly in part to the tail end of Franky's flashback being inserted back in.

Has it been released? The new episode? (ep. 256)
Here's maplesnow: http://bt.dmhy.net/sharedown.php?shareid=13019&btid=0
Saiyaman's not out.. yet.
Looking forward to the next episode in a few weeks. Wonder if there's gonna be a new opening then ('_')b I'll miss OP5!
I think there won´t be a new opening until near the end of Enies Lobby, like with Believe…
so no Zoro&Luffy against Aqua laguna yet? :(
Saiyaman release for ep.256 is out, folks.
EDIT: Sogeking will most likely be in the next episode!!
Pretty neat episode. The animation was absolute top-tall wicked. In the first half, anyway… It got funky in the second half.
The filler didn't exactly excite me, but I thought it was nice putting in the last part of the flashback here.
Also, Chimney and Gonbe rock.
Really, I thought the whole episode was bad animation-wise. And kinda boring. Oh well.
man just watching the preview of 257, with usopp on the roof of the train made me shiver. sogekiiiing~
Ah, so the rooftop scene was in the preview? I'll bet that Sogeking shows up either right before the commercial break or at the end of the episode.
I really liked the group that did 256. I was going to post three different versions of Luffy (probably 3 different groups) but never got to it.
OooOo :ninja:
it looks like hes painting the mask…
looks like he's doing something else to me
The frame right after that one shows usopp with Franky and Sanji on top of the train with the phone. Doesn't look like he's doing anything with a mask. This is all in the preview for the next episode…which only lasts 15 seconds for some reason.
Yet we have to wait 3 weeks.
Maybe he's just looking at the mask.
Anyone else totally sick of those two train drivers? They're just a decive to waste time. I swear, #256 best have been their last episode or else….! :ninja:
Usopp's just upset because he can't rejoin the Straw Hats.

couldn't agree more! they are obviously gay for each other. so why don't they go off somewhere alone so we can get on with the storyline.
At first I thought Chimney and her pet were the two in question here, so I was about ready to bust some caps. Yeah the conductors really serve no purpose, unless they were actually explaining Gold Roger's past…
Yeah, the sure did expand the roles of those conductor guys…they didn't do so much in the manga.
