After this week's events with the "flawed" release of chapter 718 I think it's better to allow only a little group of restricted members to officially announce the release.
Not my idea, it's a suggestion that some people made in the very thread of chapter 718, and it's very reasonable to avoid useless flames on the discussion threads that don't benefit the enjoyment of the chapter.
I think this is the proper place to post the suggestion and make it visible to the staff.
Allowing a restricted group of people to post the official release of latest chapter

Problem is how would we filter out chapter threads versus regular old discussion threads? We can't, we'd have to either manually approve ALL threads in that section, which is a headache for us and an annoyance for all of you, or else restrict the creation of new threads entirely to all except those select few. That's also not a good option. The real problem here is people aren't following the posted rules about spoilers and chapter threads. We could make those rules more visible, but honestly I think those who make these premature threads aren't they type to read or understand rules, let alone follow them. It's definitely worth looking in to though, so thanks for bringing it up.
I have a few ideas worth trying that should deter this in the future, but we'll have to discuss all of the options first.

I understand the hassle you're talking about, I thought you could make a subforum only for the latest chapter and give Thread Creation privileges to the mods and old users groups.
In the end moving the thread to the manga section once the new chapter is out takes almost the same time to sticky/unsticky it.
Maybe a warning header between the subforums and the sticky post, something along the line of: "Please do not post new chapter threads if not 100% finalized".Eventually it's something that has happened in this relevant way only this week, but potentially no one knows if the Chinese leaks will stop or become a standard.
For the damage they make I hope they stop and I gladly see the good sense of Arlong Park not backing these leaks, but even if AP condemns those scan, you can't prevent them to leak on other fansites / scanlation sites.Anyway, I state it again, not my idea, just the mood from some users.
Thanks for looking into it :) -
What if we all just collectively agreed that we leave posting chapter threads to the seniors, blues, and staff, and start removing all new chapter threads posted by anyone else after making an announcement that this is how we're going to handle this from now on since it's become an actual issue? That way there needs to be no extra hassle and everyone can go back to living their lives just like they have thus far.

Wednesday for "No New Thread" Day….

Kinda not sure I would support that, seeing that after 4 years I'd suddenly not be able to post the thread on the off chance I'd actualy be first to do so.

Would be totally ok for me.

All this is a bit much for a one off event.

Totally, I admit it.
Though we still don't know if it MIGHT become the standard. I hope not, but better be safe than sorry :) -
It makes more sense to act accordingly if it kept reoccurring. Jumping the gun would be a waste of time and effort.

This situation is kind of special since, if I understand correctly, the official Chinese scantalation was leaked prior to any of the Japanese scans. If there's a new provider that works for the Chinese branch and they continue to release prior to any of the Japanese scans becoming available to the public (in this case workers in stores that sell the manga, revealing scans prior to official release) then it could catch Shueisha's attention and cause a huge backlash.
It could be a one-off thing but the cost, should it happen again, is pretty high. If we can squash support for Chinese scans here then we can reduce some of the damage we could be doing to ourselves and hopefully have a ripple effect of influence on other sites following suit.
And to be frank, the contest to see who can create the chapter thread first is pretty annoying anyway.

@Jazzy:

When did it stop being translators and/or predominant people of the forum?
I mean one chapter had five people make seperate threads for it, once.
-
The problem was you had people like Bonney_AP posting the chapter thread before the actual release to ensure they were first.
Also you have people posting the link in the spoilers section and using MP as the reference for their images - I don't think its something that could be controlled without changing what makes AP so great -
Perhaps if you make a thread for the chapter you can't make one for a month or its an infraction seems a bit harsh though.
-
Everyone has good and fair points, though I think it's good to prevent this "create thread contest first" since it annoys lots of people that spend the first 5 pages oF the thread fighting on the matter.
-
Actually why not take Bonney_AP's idea and have an official thread ready to go on the day it is due to be released and just edit it in - or have the links written in and when they go active they can be used like.

Which wont link to anything till that chapter is out. Granted people can still put their links in the thread but they will have zero reason to create one.

Having a closed thread ready beforehand would definitely deter early thread-making as well as cover rare situations such as this week's.

Only if its stickied - otherwise people would spam post to other threads to drop it off first page - then make their own.
