I hate that Omega mode automatically means no items. I get the whole no items, Final Destination thing, but I don't understand why they wouldn't at least give you the option. You can play with items on the regular Final Destination map, but it just seems like more work to implement the restriction in Omega mode than to just treat it like a separate stage and remove items in online 'For Glory' matches. I love the idea of Omega versions, because it means that I can play stages with designs that I like aesthetically no matter how shitty the actual stage may be, so it's disappointing that those versions have a big ol' blood-painted sign reading "abandon items, all ye who enter here."

I don't know, whooping CPUs with the home run bat never gets old to me.
Part of what keeps me playing is learning the characters, and it's pretty hard to do so when you got bees, cuccoos, smoke bombs and accidental pick up of weapons getting in the way.
I do like the occasional item match, but I prefer them with friends since then it's just fucking hilarious. The CPU is too predictable sometimes for it to be as amusing.

I've played the hell out of it by now, and I'm LOVING IT! Megaman is turning out to potentially be my main. I freaking LOVE his play style.

I don't have the demo, and I'm fine with waiting for it, but I am really curious as to what the control scheme is. Can someone tell me what each button does?
Analog stick = Move and Tap-Jump
Y/X = Jump
A = Tilts, Smash Attacks and Aerials
B = Special Attacks
L = Grab
R = Shield/Dodge
D-pad = Taunts
Start/Select = Pause

Okay I thought the tree sucked but it's pretty good. Hehe. So Noqanky and I were challenging each other to slaughter the level 9 CPUs 1 on 1. After a while we both managed to:
Win with Villager against level 9 Pikachu on Omega version, 3-0
Win with Mega Man against level 9 Pikachu on Omega version, 3-1Winning itself isn't very hard. But try scoring 3 kills and not dying! It's not trivial.
Oh and I just checked. I have 6247 gold.

Except the mega man one, that was easy. Hard Knuckle is beast.
Man it was the opposite for me. Even with spikes, Pikachu would recover if not at reasonably high damage, and he would sometimes also decide to play keep-away at the center of the stage. Took me many tries. On the other hand, I did 3-0 with Villager in under 5 tries.

I enjoyed it a lot from how easy it felt after constant attempts to spike with the turnips. Only a couple of successes on that one out of many, many games.

And yes, Hard Knuckle is KO city. Nothing beats hitting your opponent with a well-timed Charge Shot and just when they feel hopeful of getting back in the fight… BAM! God, I'm so happy Megaman is on the roster.
! And this is just 5 characters; There's still 46 more to play as and master(If you count each of the 3 Mii fighter versions)!!

Still can't do crap with Villager xD I've managed to at least beat lvl 9s with Megaman though.
CPU Link is too easy to gimp with everyone.
I like omega mode because I'm just trying to get a good feel for the characters right now. Items messes that up. I assume items are still optional in the full version.

Oh and the controls are so backwards. Not only do I prefer to shield with L, but I like to keep my fingers in front of the screen because it's easier to hold when lying on my back, but then I'm super slow in hitting the shoulder buttons. A/B where they are is uncomfortable, but I can get used to it easier than the shoulder button thing. No C-stick makes me super sad though. I keep wasting my my jumps and killing myself x)

They're still CPU's, so they have patterns they've been programmed to follow and they sure as hell aren't going to learn how to adapt any time soon, so you can find some exploitable maneuvers.
That said, I'd say CPU Level 7 or so in all the smash bros games tends to strike a good balance between difficult and "abusing any inner mechanic like input reads".

I figured the balloons just correlated to what player you are (so P1 is red but CPUs are grey).

I'm just hoping there's more to it than that. Nintendo really needs people to buy the Wii U version, it seems, and if the content is largely the same between versions (the main difference being trophies and stages, and possibly a few modes though nothing's been confirmed on that front) and more people are likely to have a 3DS version, I'm not seeing much of a reason for people to buy an entirely new system for a game that's virtually identical to one that they will likely already have.

I have a theory on why the Ice Climbers were cut, and it wasn't just about the power of the 3DS and having 8 complete character models there, it's about the desing phylosophy that Namco Bandai team injected into smash.
Listing the big changes this iteration:
- No tripping
- No Glidding
- No transformation
- No Random moves, except those who's use case doesn't change because of it (Peach side smash, Olimar Pikmins out, but keeping Judgment, the whole point of the move was the RNG)
- Clear strengths and weakness for characters (Knock out Luma for advantage, Jump for advantage, Wait for the books/levin sword time out for advantage), that the weakness is mainly in control of the player character
- New edge mechanics
- New grab limitations
The Ice Climbers break most of these patterns, the second one being able to act more freely when desynched, the fact that one of them alone is kind of useless and has mostly no recovery, and that they have to be the exception to the edge mechanics, and that their power has to do a lot with their grabs.
They were a heavy burden not only on the CPU and GPU, but also on the design team. The only way that I see that they could have been kept, is to make them closer to either the Dog or Rosalina and Luma, either making them just "one model" and act in unison, sacrificing the original intent of the character, but keeping it in line to the balance of the game, maybe giving them a fourth jump that sacrifices your partner having you acting alone for a while, or change one of the moves for a positioning attack like Rosalina's luma toss, and keep the mechanic, but I guess that this doesn't address the heavy weakness of separated Ice Climbers or the too much models on screen.

I've noticed that it can be a bit difficult to discern the action. Normally, I'm pretty good at keeping track of the chaos on-screen, but I'm finding it a bit difficult to see through the action in close confrontations. If you're choosing between small and larger screen go for the larger, but if you have a regular 3DS and are thinking of exchanging, then I don't think it makes a big enough difference to justify the trade in.

Playing with the villager is so much fun.
You can for exemple pick up a beam sword and then a gun and be able to switch between the two weapon as the situation fits.
Or one of my favorite thing, picking up a crate or a barrel. Normally, when you carry those things you're too slow to chase someone and throw it at them. But with the villager you can skip the slow animations of carrying it. -

Jiggs has Nurse hat and Serena's hat, not counting Bow, Strawhat Jiggs, and others.
This makes me sad for the serious mons, they got screwed, while they could be wearing scarves and battle items.

Regular 3ds is fine although I've sometimes lost where I was is can generally tell what's happening. Better off waiting for new 3DS XL.
Also trophies of mewtwo and chorus kids have now been found (as well as ice climbers who use their brawl model). Ridley only one left but likely is of him as well
