Link/Zelda/Ganondorf won't move out the Smash series. I just wish they'll completely declone Ganondorf. He has so much possible moves to build an original moveset it's painful to see him as a clone. Make him use his trademark magic volleyball attack or his other magic attacks, use his trident (or a sword … but the series is already crowded with swordmen), maybe make him glide,... but declone it!!

For the other characters, I don't really want two version of Link since it's kinda pointless but, if they declone Toon Link, why not. I'd still choose an original character over him.
I wouldn't be against Sheik moveset being separated from Zelda and given to Impa since she's been in the series since ages and her last incarnation can perfectly use the same moves. Everybody use Sheik or Zelda, not both so it's kinda pointless to have them as one character and Sheik only appears in one game. Plus, it would unlock the down+b move for each character.

For a completely new slot, Vaati or Tingle have a chance.

Vaati is the only other bad guy besides Ganondorf who appears in more than one game.

Tingle is THE secondary character of the Zelda series and has got 3 games on his own. And he's amazing. And he has an awesome potential for moveset. My personal take: a money centric moveset. He has a rupee counter over his emblem and gain rupees by dealing damage. The effect of his B moves depends on how much he spend rupees to use them (while charging). He could hire bodyguards (stronger ones come with more rupees), use balloons (number depends on rupees), shoot rupees (green, blue or red),...

That sounds pretty good to me (except tingle), and i totally agree we dont need two iterations of the same character so toon link can jump into death mountain for all i care.

Id be happy if it went like this for zelda reps:

Link (Skyward Sword Version)
Zelda (Skyward Sword Version)
Impa (Either connected to zelda by down b instead of sheik, or a split character)
Ganondorf (New moveset and possibly with a SS redesign somewhat like how sheik got a TP one for brawl)

Wasn't Brawl announced just like this Wii U/3DS version? Tell the masses but nothing is actually being worked on. Iwata announced it, but Sakurai had no idea it was going to even be made. So if it was announced in 05 and released in 08 then that is actually some really fast development time. Sakurai plans to use Brawl as a templet for these new games, but still yeah 2015, or late 2014 at the earliest.

With Nintendo actually getting into the DLC scene, I wouldn't mind characters that just missed the timeline cut to become playable characters 6 months to a year after the game comes out.

Brawl was anounced with the trailer of the four getting graphical updates and the reveals of ZSamus, Pit, Metaknight, Wario and Snake.

Yup just what I thought. Years ago I remember thinking, how could nintendo announce the game but absolutely nothing was in the works? Then I thought that would never happen again, hahaha.

Still though doesn't matter in the long run I suppose. Kid Icarus should be going gold very soon and after that I expect false(but fun) rumors and tiny tidbits from Sakurai soon after.

Yea i remember it as well, Iwata pretty much said they would do their best to get smash bros by the launch of the wii. And with them doing it again it makes me think they seem to like springing massive projects on the poor guy out of the blue.

Hahaha. In one of Sakurai's last major interviews he said he would have no rest in between this and Kid Icarus, so I expect things really get moving tomorrow, well today in Japan.

I think the main reason that a lot got leaked was only because the japanese release of the game was released a good two months ahead of everyone else (longer for EU and AUS), so it would be better if they try to get it on time for all regions in that sense.

As far as the dojo went i enjoyed it, it was a roller coaster of excitement and a bit of disappointment every now and then but it definitely got me hyped more than any other game in recent memory. I think i was more disappointed by the final characters in the roster than anything else, the dojo was excellent as far as generating interest goes.

I didn't like the time of the dojo because it was the pinacle of obsession for me, I automaticaly woke up every day at 3am to check the dojo, and if you see the last Smash thread, you'll see the lenghts of discussions that went over that.

Oh. When I was at my aunts for the summer, me and my brother would just stay up until midnight and check. And once I got back to Germany, I didn't have internet, so I'd just check in school. For me it was just a small thing to look forward to sometime in the week.

I didn't even have my own laptop back then so imagine how much of a mission that was XD

The Dojo was amazing, to this day I recall checking it religiously and listening to the music clips over and over again. I also strongly recall the moment certain characters were announced, like Ike being the first unexpected announcement, then slowly we started getting the likes of Diddy Kong and Pokemon Trainer. When Olimar was the last announced it got my hopes up for random secret characters, but sadly a lot of them weren't as random or interesting as I had hoped.
I also was sad the moment Isaac and Lynn were announced as assist trophies. Such good opportunities for characters, gone.

Really hope they do something similar with the new game, just with leaving the unique, random characters as secret characters instead of announcing them. I can see why marketing would benefit from people knowing about Sonic, but if I had randomly unlocked Olimar or Pokemon Trainer I would have been floored.

Ironicly enough, in retrospect my favorite Dojo updates were the bad ones (options, Bonsley, "You have to Recover!").
They provided me and my freinds monthes worth of cheap laughs, disapointment can be a good thing sometimes.

Come to think of it … I recall manaphy being announced and switching your characters momentarily, and being highly amused about the possibilities. But in all my years of playing, I don't think I have EVER encountered that pokemon. Did I imagine this?

Manaphy is hilarious in the right situations. Example, my self and a buddy of mine were playing. I got a pokeball and he the smash ball. Manaphy popped out, giving me use of his character, and I pulled off HIS final smash for my victory.

Probably one of my favorite memories of that game.

That spot was take, since the begining, by Mario and Luigi.

No game needs 4 cloned movesets, and one of them 3 times. Yeah, Melee managed to pull it off with 6, but I don't care for that game.

If they do another Dojo, I'd really appreciate if they didn't act like Luigi, Cpt. Falcon, Jigglypuff and Ness are like this totally secret ultra mystery until the damn game comes out again.

I remember when they revealed Ike. Fire Emblem is my favorite Nintendo game, and I didn't even think of the possibility of Ike being in the game. When I saw him, I seriously screamed at the top of my lungs, and I thought I was home alone. My father was asleep, and my scream made him think I was being murdered or something. XD

And Sonic, somehow, I manage to have a very silent reaction.

Yeah, I remember the dojo, to put it mildly. Finally taking that out of my bookmarks a year or so ago was a sad moment for me.

you see, I have never been as excited for anything in my life as I was for Brawl. Staying up late to check the update, or getting up early before going to school. Wanting an outlet to discuss that game got me into the internet in general, I got super invested in NSider forums, and then later NSider2. I lived for a solid year as a being of pure hype.

Looking back, I probably had more fun anticipating and debating over what the game should be like than I did actually playing it. Not to say I didn't have a ton of fun playing it, I did, but dear LORD do I love me a good moveset thread. Or people digging up obscure NES characters, like Sukapon, and presenting them as viable options. But, in the end, my expectations were phenomenal, and Sakurai let me down. Over-casualization of the gameplay, a few roster and moveset choices I disagreed with, TRIPPING, etc. It's not a problem of Brawl being a bad game as much as it is me expecting a 12/10 game and getting a 9/10 one.

But you know what? Being able to be hurt is proof that you can still love. And I fucking love smash bros. Bring on the hype.

I used to love those since it made me try games I've never even heard of.

Also, you forgot the brawl being massively slower. Going back to Melee or SSB is like running full speed for the first time after wearing cement blocks for 10 years.

Oh god. I can't wait till the updates start rolling in, in a Dojo type fashion. I remember how anxious I was thinking that they would take out Sheik and how relieved I was when she was announced. Not to mention how stoked I was when Ike was announced. A week after I finished playing FE:PoR too and I was thinking how awesome Ike would be in Brawl after I fell in love with his character. I remember telling my friends every week about every exciting update even if they don't play video games. Ah…. good times lol

The hype for me was so great that i was pretty depressed when i got the final roster and knew the only thing left was to play the game. not more hype…

but when i did me and my friends spent all day bragging and racing to unlock all the characters... Best video game memories of my life are from Brawl. I play it almost daily to this date.
I'm one of those hardcore fans... lol.

Sakurai doesn't give a rat's ass what fans want. Remember that short-lived, Japan-only poll for brawl? yeah, that was only to get input on assist trophies, because he already decided the final roster before the first trailer was shown. except for Sonic, of course.

I mean, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a giant poll so that he could see that, holy fuck, a lot of people want Ridley playable, and Mewtwo back, etc, but I'm not counting on it.

What do people think of the idea of having the 3ds version focus solely on the handheld side of things while the wii u version focuses on the console side. By connecting them you can use any of the characters and stages on either platform but you unlock them via there own game. Some characters like mario, kirby and samus will be on both but some characters like Link can be different with it being toon on 3ds and realistic on wii u

Well when they ask the Golden Sun developers for a character, they'll go with Matthew instead, so they can advertise the next Golden Sun game. I mean he's the exact same as Issac anyway.

I think, to cover both literal "generations" of the games, they should use adult Isaac from Dark Dawn.

The most we'll see this year is a cinematic trailer, a la Brawl in E3 2006. It'll show us the main four veterans (Mario, Link, Kirby and Pikachu) and a few of the characters they know they want in. Possibly other character we know will come back will be included but probably won't - If I remember correctly, Fox was disincluded in the first Brawl trailer but we all knew he was gonna be in it. Then we have to give Sakurai and the other developers a few months to finalize a few things before we even get Dojo updates. So possibly late 2012, or 2012 is when I predict we'll see Dojo updates.

Isaac I just want included, no matter the form.

Oh, I'm expecting a trailer. Judging how things went with Brawl, I think it's not too farfetched to expect one. Maybe not as epic or with orchestrated music, but I bet that's the first thing Sakurai's team will focus on.

The question is, which are the new characters they definitely want to go with in this trailer. I'm ready to bet on a new character from kid icarus uprising. Ridley if we're lucky. Not sure if to expect a third party character or not.
