Yeah I'm pretty sure all of RARE's members that worked on those N64 and GC games are gone. Nintendo should just buy Banjo Kazooie from MS.
Super Smash Bros
-
-
I dunno. Nintendo could use Rare for Wii Sports or something. That way they could get someone else to make Rare's games and lumber someone with Wii Sports.
-
All RARE do now is Kinect games and Avatars and shit so maybe, it could work.
-
I just want to see a new Banjo & Kazooie and Conker game. Those were amazing. Are rare still allowed to make nintendo games because they remade diddy kong racing a few years back
-
I think they're allowed to work on portable systems since Microsoft isn't involved in that market, but other than that, they're stuck with Microsoft. Personally, I'd like to see a Banjo-Kazooie sequel with actual platforming, but they seem to be focused more on (whether they want to be focused on it or not) Kinect Sports sequels.
-
As much as I'd love for Rare to return to Nintendo, it won't happen - or at least, won't happen as we want it. If they return, we could theorectically, have another (proper) Banjo & Kazooie and Conker. The problem is that those responsible for those games are (most likely) gone. We'll never have that charm of the originals back. Banjo & Kazooie would be a great third-party character, but I forsee Microsoft holding him in their grasp to belittle this game.
The move-set for Banjo is already set: B - Shoot an egg, or Banjo swinging some punches; ^ B - Either allowing free-flight in the first, or just Kazooie flapping really hard (I could see something like Pit, but not as long - or flight like MetaKnight or Charizard); < > B - The Kazooie Thrust. V B - (in the air) Beak Bomb, or some original move Sakurai makes up - possibly something to do with Nuts and Bolts.
-
I have all three Smash Bros. Games and I don't regret owning any of them. That's usually a good sign so I'd like to see more. Although, to be honest, I didn't really like Melee all that much.

They can't belittle it anymore than they did Live & Reloaded.

I like Melee better than Brawl since it has Young Link & Roy though Brawl has a somewhat better soundtrack.

Only somewhat better soundtrack ;)
If there's one thing any brawl haters can admit, is that Brawl has the most godly soundtrack.. basically ever!

Could care less about those two really. In all honesty, while I don't regret owning Melee, I was so dissappointed by it (for some reason) that I wasn't even going to get Brawl. Then they announced Sonic and now I own it anyway. It's much better than Melee was. I really enjoyed it.

Oh god what? As a game to play just for some "lolrandom" maybe. The problem with Brawl is that it only catered to randomness while Melee and SSB catered to both randomness and skill. The balancing is also pants on head retarded.
All for the sake of "I wanted Beginners to be able to beat Veterans", which just isn't going to happen regardless.
Brawl is a pretty lackluster sequel if I've ever seen one.
All that time put into making freaking stickers that aren't even usable outside of story mode…. WHY?

I guess I find randomness more fun than skill than. I'm just saying this based on the experience I had. It was a much better one that I had with Melee.
I agree with the thing about the stickers though. I could barely see them and I didn't quite know what the point was.
-
Brawl is for casuals Melee is for hardcore
am i doin it rite?
In all seriousness, I actually do prefer Melee. At least in terms of gameplay. Brawl feels more complete given its large amount of content, but it also feels like they spent too much time on the content and features rather than polishing the gameplay and the balance.
-
Brawl is for casuals Melee is for hardcore
That isn't what I meant (though it sounds like it).
I really felt like stickers could've been cool if they let you customize your character with them.
-
May only real problem with brawl was that it was too easy. In Melee you had to work to unlock all the characters and stages but in brawl you can get all the characters by just doing story mode and i can't remember for stages but i know it wasn't hard at all
-

True to an extent.
Brawl had way more unlockable characters, and a lot of extra little things that are harder to complete, such as stickers trophies and subspace emissary. But as far as characters goes, no one compares to Mewtwo..
So many times people reset my memory cards, then I'd have to spend 20+ hours unlocking him, just to remember "Mewtwo sucks…". Waste of my time!!!

Not all of the methods were good. 24 hours just to unlock the final character is obsurd.
-

It wasn't neccessary 24 hours. It was actually 20 total so you could play 4 player for 5 hours and get him. I'm not saying it should be that long but we should put similar amounts of effort into stuff to unlock them. Like getting luigi in melee. It was very random but it was quite a good way of doing it
-
Yea unlocking a character in a game shouldn't involve luck or an ungodly amount of time put into playing a certain mode.

QUICK QUESTION: Is there anyone on here who DOES NOT want to have the same roster on both the WiiU and 3DS versions? There's this one guy on Smashboards who keeps claiming "most" people are against that. I mean, I was pretty sure the default position was to want both rosters to be the same, a "universal roster" if you will.
-
Well if the roster of one game sucks I want the one from the other game to be better obviously.
But I think it depends on how much the connectivity between both games will be. -

Chances of the roster of 3DS SBB4 and the roster of the Wii U SSB4 being different are very slim considering Sakurai's concept of this game is develop your fighter on the 3DS game and then battle multiplayer with that character on the Wii U game.
-
Exactly. Though that means the WiiU could still have exclusives, but still. Don't want that. ~50 on both versions is just fine. This guy is proposing each version only have 38 characters, with a total of about 55 between both version. Then he brings up technical limitations (when I've proven with hard numbers that there is none) and trivial marketing reasons.
I mean… I could see maybe having one exclusive on each version that you unlock with the inter-connectivity. What he's proposing is just ridiculous. :/
It wouldn't bother me so much if he wasn't getting others to "WANT" what he proposes, lol.

Potential document leak reveals that the game might be named SSB: Universe.
-
So they're ditching fighting terms for subtitles, eh? Sad, now I'll never realise my dream of playing 'Super Smash Bros.: Drunken Bar Fight'.
Universe is okay, I guess.
-
I made mockups of the logos shown in the leaked image. Just for fun.
-
So they haven't even started till Kid Icarus is done apparently and Kid Icarus has been delayed like 3 times now…
-
I like the title it has a nice ring to it.
http://wii.ign.com/articles/119/1195665p1.html
Article and Photo of document
-
The name is very nice. I liked the Strife name more, but Universe fits very nicely.
I also like the acronym more. SSBU :)
-
Sigh
Super Smash Bros. Grudge Match will never come to pass.
-
What a terrible pun.
-
…you guys.
this is faker than fake. It is using the same exact font that Brawl used, just re-colored. please don't act like this is remotely legitimate.
I honestly predict Super Smash Bros. 4, ala Mario Kart 7, another franchise that they just gave up on trying to come up with new subtitles for.
-
Um.. Hello? Super Smash Bros Rumble? I do like Super Smash Bros Universe even if it's completely fake because SSBU sounds good, It works with the Wii U name and makes it sound like there'll be lots of content but come. Rumble's like the most fitting one. Maybe it's too obvious but i always imagined being called that
-
Smash Bros Cage Match?
-
…you guys.
this is faker than fake. It is using the same exact font that Brawl used, just re-colored. please don't act like this is remotely legitimate.
Guys, Zelda Skyward Sword is fake. It's using the exact same font as all the older Zelda games just recolored.
And guys, Smash Bros Brawl was fake, it's using the exact same font as the previous games in the series just slightly modified.
Game companies reuse good logos. They do it all the time. That's why Halo had the same exact logo just with a different number at the end, and the word "Mario" in every Mario title since Mario 3 has used that exact same font with usually but not always the same coloring.
This is a rumor that we have no way of confirming right now, and it could go either way, but making a sequel logo by recoloring and adding a new subtitle to the previous logo is IN NO WAY proof positive that it's fake. Especially when this could very well just be a placeholder title/logo like the company just did with Mario 3D Land
-

Mario Kart didn't typically have imaginative subtitles anyway. Other than Double Dash and Super Circuit, they've all just been named after whatever system they were on. Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart Arcade, Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart Wii… Giving it a number is arguably MORE inventive than what they've had in the past.
-
Woot! New info, even if fake, is good for me!

The Japanese Smash Bros. font seems to always be the same, I'll give you that. However, the English font is always different. I don't see what you mean with the Mario series there. All of those are different fonts. They are like Arial and Helvetica. Similar style, but noticeably different. What we have here, is someone literally just palette-swapped the Brawl font, and added "Universe" underneath it.
Which is odd, since Japanese titles usually use, you know, Japanese. Like how Melee, which you linked to, says "derakusu" (deluxe) on it in Japanese. Or Brawl has "ekkusu" (X).
but, like you say, this could be a placeholder. This could be some sort of secret design document, leaked years before the release of a game that isn't supposed to be in development yet, showing a hastily done prototype logo using English instead of Katakana as is the norm.
It could be all that, but it seems more likely that it is a fake.
-
Super Smash Bros. Fisticuffs?
Worst mock up title I can think of?
Super Smash Bros. Rumpus -
Worst mock up title I can think of?
Super Smash Bros. RumpusSuper Smash Bros. Scuffle
Super Smash Bros. Tussle
Super Smash Bros. Clash…
Actually that last one sounds almost alright.

Super Smash Bros. That's My Purse
-
Super Smash Bros. Clash
…
Actually that last one sounds almost alright.
Especially since that means they can license Clash songs for the OST.:ninja:

Wait, What? The Mario font is the same on every cover of every game that uses it… it's ALWAYS been the exact same font. Where are the "Noticeable Differences"? Sure, sometimes they make the font 3D or add an effect but it's ALWAYS The same Mario font, I mean seriously...
Which is odd, since Japanese titles usually use, you know, Japanese. Like how Melee, which you linked to, says "derakusu" (deluxe) on it in Japanese. Or Brawl has "ekkusu" (X).
Uuh… no... Mele is "Dairantou Smash Brothers DX" with Katakana alerting the Japanese viewer that "DX" is read "Derakusu". The Japanese Brawl logo has a HUGE X at the back of it, and then tiny white text alerting the Japanese viewer that that is read as "Ekusu". Just like how One Piece's title is "ONE PIECE" with little Katakana at the top that, again, alerts the Japanese fan that it's "Wan Piisu".
There are, and have been, times when Logos are displayed without Katakana. The Katakana is not always part of the logo, it's just literally there to inform.but, like you say, this could be a placeholder. It's not exactly the same, something was done with the colors. The S' at either end are much darker, almost black. The colors were completely modified.
-
I'm still having trouble believing this is coming. Then again I guess Hideo Kojima (as much as I adore him) sure has proven how little it means to say this is the last installment of a game series that you're doing so it's not much of a stretch if Sakurai's made to do the same.
-
I don't even know why I'm bothering to argue this. neither of us knows for sure, and the game still won't be out for years. Maybe I'm just bored.
Wait, What? The Mario font is the same on every cover of every game that uses it… it's ALWAYS been the exact same font. Where are the "Noticeable Differences"? Sure, sometimes they make the font 3D or add an effect but it's ALWAYS The same Mario font, I mean seriously...
Think like a typographer. Only two of these logos are using the "exact same font". Galaxy 1 and 2.
! Yes, I agree that the overall shape of the letters is the same. However, someone had to create the logo anew each time. The "RI" from Double-Dash could not be created by coloring the "RI" in Mario 3 yellow, for example.
Making it 3D and adding an effect - that is what makes it a different font.Uuh… no... Mele is "Dairantou Smash Brothers DX" with Katakana alerting the Japanese viewer that "DX" is read "Derakusu". It's not exactly the same, something was done with the colors. The S' at either end are much darker, almost black. The colors were completely modified.
I presume you created you mock-up by changing the colors of the brawl logo, correct? I suspect that's exactly what was done for the Universe logo. Check out the uncanny similarities…
!
All I'm saying is, the contents of this "leak" could have been very easily constructed by literally anyone, and there is absolutely nothing to give it any credibility. That, coupled with the earliness of the leak, makes it very suspect. So, please don't go around campaigning "So-and-so for SSBU!!!" just yet.
Edit: I don't mean to run a dead horse into the ground, but Sakurai just tweeted something. http://twitter.com/#!/Sora_Sakurai/status/116482429870546944 "I'm currently concentrating on one title, Kid Icarus. Until this wraps up, Smash Bros. will not progress. Of course, characters have not been decided at all."
again, he doesn't deny anything, but I just think this is too early for ANY sort of leak to have any meaning.

If you wish.
! Dixie: I wouldn't mind her, but probably not going to happen.
! Knuckles, Chaos & Metal Sonic: I would think Tails gets 1st priority, then Knuckles, Amy & any other Genesis-era characters.
! Ghirahim & Demise: Since Ganondorf wasn't in Skyward Sword (He'll still be in this new one, AND MAKE HIM A SEPERATE CHARCTER FROM FALCON, YOU LAZY BASTARDS!), I wouldn't mind either as the rep for it's villain. I'd prefer Ghirahim myself.
! Dark Samus & Ridley: DS is too much clone material, and while Ridley is cool, he may be too big.
! Roy & Mewtwo: Agreed.
! Banjo & Kazooie: Think Microsoft is their master now.
! Any Golden Sun Character: At least one should be in.
! Bowser Jr: Pass.
! 2nd-5th Pokemon Trainer: Yes, but only if they mix it up from the 1st Gen Trainer.
! Captian Louie: Kinda un-needed.
! Skull Kid: I would think a Majora character would be more apt.
! Young Link: Toon Link took his spot.
! Paper Mario Characters: Un-needed.
! Bomberman: I agree.
! Amaterasu: It would be a mindscrew if she was in MVC3 and this.
! Super Mario RPG: I still think the Squarebargo is in effect.
! Mega Man: At least the original.
! Goemon: Well, if Ice Climbers can get in…
! Mii: Pass. -
One of the most pleasing things Sakurai and his team could do for the game imo is revamp the clones, especially Ganondorf.
