No, please don't litter.
Hoping the weapons will be a bit more futuristic. Hopefully some radical new scope designs and perks will be available, not to mention a bit more variety in the amount you can carry.
Sure hope the multiplayer's not broken that and they fix Spec Ops.
I don't know why but I still love fps's. I think the mad days of duke nukem and die hard has imprinted a fondness in me.
Either way whatever the flaws this might… have I'll still buy it and spend too much of my precious free time playing it.
Still ain't gonna play it.

How about, oh I dunno… not the same game repackaged and sold for $60? Of course the rehashing won't change, why should it? Every game fricken ends up being the biggest entertainment launch in history... "Hardcore" gamers are such saps.

If they were all the same the fanbase wouldn't be divided over which studio churns out better COD games between the two of them so they got that problem solved somewhat. But seriously though the only area of the COD games that come off feeling even slightly similar is the MP compnent.

Lol at your ancient definition of hardcore.
For the rest, I agree. I bought COD 4 and MW2. COD 4 was amazing, easily the best in the series. MW2 was ok, but I got tired of it and traded it in for credit towards Bad Company 2. Black Ops? Played it at a friends house once, didn't like it.
There's a reason I put quotation marks on the ends of the word. The term use to refer to gamers who gamed heavily and/or played more "extreme" games. But I consider the whole term "Hardcore Gamer" to be ridiculous nowadays. Because of how often they threw it around I've come to use the term negatively to refer to the heavy CoD, Halo, etc gamers who believe those games are the best around and everything else is "casual."
Is every person who plays those games like that? No, wasn't saying that.
I see the hardcore gamers as more of the people who play big franchise games and not just shooters or mature games and hate anything casual.
I suppose the other one makes more sense seeing as how most "hardcore" gamers are immature, and would probably act the way you described it, but I always saw the hardcore gamers as those who think anything that isn't Mario, Zelda, Halo, MGS, Deus Ex, Half-life, COD, Street Fighter, Battlefield, Mass Effect, GOW, GEOW, Metroid, etc. is casual shit.
Sadly, that what the definition of hardcore is in this age. Atleast from personal experience. One of my friends is a real CoD nutcase, and he refuses to play anything else over a long period because everything else is considered "casual". Maybe that's just his frustration over how games are currently made today. These days, high budget titles typically don't test the gamer's skill because they are too easy, too short and lack features that makes the purchase not worth the full price. If you are online agianst other human players, none of those flaws are there.
Of course there are those gamers that would dislike anything that's considered "too hard" or "artificially difficult". Either way, they all kinda piss me off for different reasons. This is why I'd probably retire from being a gamer until the crowd makes up its mind on what's standard(my kinda standard).
@Gueta
Is GEOW supposed to stand for Gears Of War?
Yeah. The gaming community got sick of confusing God of War and Gears of War in abbriviation so they changed it to the more bothersome to type GeOW. Dunno why just plain "Gears" didn't become the norm.
Hardcore Cooking Mama! (Actually….that didn't sound right.)
HARDCORE ANIMAL CROSSING GO!
We all know that Hardcore players are people who play pretty much a variety of games for a long period of time, trying to get 100% or whatever. Not because you play CoD for a few hours a week. Whether you like it or not. Hardcore Farmville players do exist.
On topic however. Call of Duty is a pretty eh game. Always feels rushed and incomplete to me. The Single-Player mode gets worse with each installment and Multiplayer is always full of either 1: Assholes or 2: Underage children.
How about, oh I dunno… not the same game repackaged and sold for $60? Of course the rehashing won't change, why should it? Every game fricken ends up being the biggest entertainment launch in history... "Hardcore" gamers are such saps.
Buuhan won't be happy until they release one game with everything possible wedged into it, totally removing any need for later games.
I personally like the originals, and buy the new games to enjoy the slight variations and different gameplay spawned from it.
I absolutely love shooting assholes and underage children… as most of which are my customers. So it's kinda like getting something back for putting up with their shit.
To me it's always been like this, if you looked at the term literally, I would be considered a "casual" gamer, since I have friends and a job and just not much time to sit by myself and play games for long hours. But on the other hand, I read and pay a lot of attention to the culture of gaming since it's one of my hobbies... so I would be "hardcore" in that regard. I also don't play what people refer to as "casual" games... so it's a bit of a conundrum.
The whole, "casual games" idea of the last few years threw the definition off.
I always referred to "hardcore" gamers as people who spent much of their time playing, talking about, and reading about video games. "Casuals" are those who will game when they want, but never really put any priority with it, they hear about new games from their friends and generally have other things on their minds. It shouldn't matter what people play.
Nowadays, I just put people into two categories, "people who enjoy entertainment" and "video game enthusiasts"
MW would be awful without the hoards of kids and douche-bags. Its what gives you the dedicated drive and focus needed to pummel them into the ground.
Nothing more satisfying seeing the end result. Usually a man baby screaming abuse down the line to the sweet background noise of tears hitting the controller.
But oh, the painful period in life to where you suck and are getting killed left and right by those piles of shit…
Buuhan, are there any FPS you don't suck at?
My first current-gen HD-console FPS was Halo 3, and I sucked at first, but I was having fun, so I didn't really notice. That is until I became an above-average player and started worrying about my K/D and useless shit and getting all these multi-kills and sprees and whoring sniper and battle rifle.. It was still fucking fun, don't get me wrong, but I'd rather go back to when I sucked and I still had fun. Stopped playing any Halo game though, but once in a blue moon if I go back to reach to play w/ a friend, I pretty much own the entire opposing team.
I've gone as long as 5 months without playing the game and I came back to it once and I still fucking owned. I guess I just can't lose the skill. Still, I'm fed up with Halo, and next time I go back I'd rather just fuck around and betray my teammates and talk shit. I know, I'd be the guy you all hate to play with, but who the fuck cares, I'd probably have a lot more fun.
But oh, the painful period in life to where you suck and are getting killed left and right by those piles of shit…
Never happened to me.
I'm a by-product of being dropped in getafix's potion as a baby.
i can tell this game is gonna be as horrible as the others

If by horrible you mean utterly decimate every other game released in the same window as it in terms of sales and revenue…maybe
unless Battlefield 3 can stop that.
BF3 won't outsell the game, but it'll definitely be a lot better..
And COD may utterly decimate every other game released in the same window as it in terms of sale and revenue, but that doesn't mean it's good. I guess it's not horrible, but it's not the BEST GAEM EVAR OMG LOL

Well I know that but at the same time it's not the "WORSE GAME EVER" everybody makes it out to be.
Say what you will but I loved the second game if not for how "patriotic" it was trying to be. Looking forward to it.
So just saw on SportsCenter the game will be revealed during the Western Conference Finals (Not sure if NHL or NBA, Idk if the Western finals began already in the NHL but I know they have in the NBA and today was Game 1) on March 23, probably Game 3.
I'll be watching the game and the trailer will come out and I probably won't even pay much attention.
That is what we call blind faith. Which is the big thing the Call of Duty series seems to be relying on. Infinity Ward nor Treyarch feel the need to improve the series anymore. Most likely you'll pretty much be buying Call of Duty 4.75, Now with 2 times more raspberry jelly on your face!!

Let's remember these games are developed within a short timeframe so any major improvements will more likely than not require some extra time but as Activision is hell bent on annualizing these games for some reason…

That's not entirely true. What do you think Infinity Ward was doing all of 2010? Aside from the employee problems they were having, they were probably working on MW3. So they got 2 years to make improvements. In the hands of the good developer that is plenty of time to change things and still make your deadline.

It might take 2 years for some it might take longer for others plus when you're working on a game that has both a single-player and multiplayer component and you have a 2 1/2 development cycle on top of that more likely than not you're going to have to make concessions to make sure the game meets it's deadline.
So what are these BIG changes people keep demanding from this series? A lot of people are bitching without actually giving any kind of example to further improve the gaming experience.

I'm pretty sure after having a huge online component for the last 4 games it's pretty much a copy and paste situation for developing the online features. I'm sure they do some tweaking, but obviously not much has changed. As for the single player component all they ever seem to do is sometimes change environments. And they clearly use preset pieces to create the levels and I'm sure they even recycle pieces from previous installments. Keeping all that in mind. 2 years should be plenty of time to do SOMETHING different.
@Smudger:

I'll start with something I generally don't like. (Fair warning, I have a bias against these games) Why is it that when you play online that if one person is doing really well, rather than trying to create a balance and handicapping the person, you reward them with specials like a guided missile, or being able to summon dogs? That seems a bit unfair in my eyes.
My personal grievance aside, there is a lot I can dig into when it comes to these games. I'm going to generalize it into one thing. Glitches. These little issues plague the CoD series. For example, I'm crouched behind a wall, some guy shoots over my head by about 2 feet and somehow got a headshot on me. The games lack polish. Are they amusing? For a little while, yeah. At the end of the day though you're just spending $60 on a map pack and maybe a few new guns.

This has to be the most confusing post I've seen in the game section for a long time.
I mean what do you propose? give everyone special abilities until they stop sucking only to have all the perks taken away. What the hell kind of motivation is that towards trying to get kill-streaks or anything else for that matter.
Just imagine applying that logic towards everyday life. The world would stop turning…

I'm purposing that they try to balance the game better. How about if you get kill streak and get your guided missile the person you just killed for that streak gets their own defensive perk to try and prevent the guided missile.
Why are you trying to compare video game logic to real world logic? You shouldn't need a reward for everything you do. I think you just kind of proved the argument of today's gamers being a bunch of needy crybabies. If they don't get a reward or a trophy/achievement for doing something they think it's stupid and don't want to do it. What ever happened to just having the pride value for doing something? Call me old school but I don't need to be congratulated by the game every time I do something correctly.
You got an achievement for starting up the game! You got an achievement for buying the newest map pack! You got an achievement for playing for 1000 hours!
if the intervention is in this im buying, black ops destroyed quickscoping -_-

You'd be surprised at how more challenging the COD ones are..

Why should someone get a second chance for being beaten by someone better? All that does is make all the pro players gaming experience twice as hard without any form of compensation for the extra effort. Essentially all this will do is create an entire generation of sloppy gamers that lack any inspiration to be anything other than average. Worst idea ever….
Why are you trying to compare video game logic to real world logic?
Because its about trying to make the games realistic and give some sort of inspiration to do the best of your capability, and even try to push further.
You shouldn't need a reward for everything you do.
And yet practically every game in existence has them…wonder why that is?
I think you just kind of proved the argument of today's gamers being a bunch of needy crybabies. If they don't get a reward or a trophy/achievement for doing something they think it's stupid and don't want to do it
That's definitely why. Its not like people want to see signs of any achievements and progression made after hours/days of hard work.
What ever happened to just having the pride value for doing something? Call me old school but I don't need to be congratulated by the game every time I do something correctly.
What you have just explained is in no way oldskool, but a dumb guideline you've set yourself to.
I wonder if you've ever bothered to complete a game, or even level for that matter. Heck I wonder if you've even seen the point in unwrapping the games at this point.
I love the hate this series has garnered. It's like there are people out there… who DON'T even play FPS games who act like Call of Duty shoved them in a locker everyday during high school.
Also some of this armchair video game wisdom cracks me the fuck up.
Protip- Activision likes releasing Call of Duty every year, cause half the world is putting their executive's kids through collage.
lol i hate CoD, but i like the way they added the freedom tower to New York in the new trailer
looks like everywhere is taking pre-orders for this now. I was informed that since I traded in L.A Noire I'd automaticaly get £5 off MW3 or Battlefield. Although the guy seemed kinda upset when I asked if I could have it off Duke Nukem or Ocarina instead.
Oh, you can trade in stuff towards B3 now? I need to check that out.
I think it was just an offer Game were doing with L.A Noire. If you trade it in with them you get £5 off MW3 or Battlefield 3. Kind of a good deal if you are wanting either. (especially considering they offered me £35 for L.A whereas others were giving about £20)
Damn I can't wait to see the campaign! Go London GO!
That doesn't look the tits .
That doesn't look the tits .
The entirety of the war scenes in that video will look like a fucking pink belly compare to the shit I'm gonna bring down on you boy!
Alright MW3 comes out in America tomorrow is everyone's mind and bodies prepared?
