Oh god the latest chapter is just awesome xD.
Hachiken's father has haki confirmed I dare say.
Insanely hilarious.
Silver Spoon by Arakawa Hiromu (Fullmetal Alchemist)
-
-
I'm glad Silver spoon is finally back, I really missed it during its short break
-
Arakawa's 3rd child was just born last month! :yay
Her 2nd child was born about two years ago, btw.
-
I read about it yesterday. Congrats to her.
That woman is incredible if you take a second to think about it. After writing FMA- a masterpiece in my eyes- she's penning another top-selling manga while being a mother at the same time.
-
Has nobody been reading lately? The chapters are coming out at a steady pace.
Who knew a manga about farming and high school kids trying to set up a buisiness could be so engrossing? And Berkshire Pigs!! Who doesn't wuv piggies?!
-
I just started this up half a week ago and ended up falling in love so much that I marathoned it. It is a really high quality read. Not only does it have a really balanced and well-developed cast of characters with well-defined relationships, but it gives readers a good look into the agricultural world and manages to both respect and challenge its customs.
-
I'm still reading and enjoying this manga. It is a great read. Arakawa really is a super talented mangaka
-
Arakawa is a genius.
I'm just happy this current pig won't be suffering the same fate as Pork Bowl.
-
I'm glad to see that so many users here are reading the manga. #100 was one of my favourite chapters. Truly a chapter worth of that milestone.
-
I think a lot of people are reading and enjoying it. It's just it is not a title you can discuss much about.
Except it seems we are approaching the end of the manga. The new arc title sounds like it will be the last one. -
Well, like many other slice-of-life manga, it's not exacly a story where you can keep on speculating about what will happen in the next chapter, like you'd do with your average action or battle manga. Anyway, it's a good read, without a doubt, and an interesting story on the whole: after all, Arakawa is good at storytelling and she already proved it.
-
That's sadly the truth, for the most part. I'm just surprised to see the thread forgotten for that long.
Except it seems we are approaching the end of the manga. The new arc title sounds like it will be the last one.
You mean Hachiken's company/business? Maybe, but how long of an arc will that be, exactly? He and the others are a long way from making that a reality, and Mikage is still a ways from getting into college too. I think we've got a while yet. Or maybe that's just hope talking.
-
I don't think the manga's ending anytime soon. While I do understand why someone would think that, there's still material left that needs to be properly shown. Two more years in high school, supported by the appearance of a new character in form of an underclassman, Hachiken's business, Mikage getting into college, all the other students pursuing their dreams; heck, even the teachers are still going for something new (just look at chapter 100).
Arakawa could certainly have it end with this Four Seasons arc, but it'd be a damn shame to say goodbye to Hachiken and co already. -

Almost all of the main character arcs are pretty much resolved by now or are incredibly close to resolution
-
I'm not sure we need to have all 3 years. Once Hashiken business is ready the main goal of the manga is pretty much clear and I don't see how it should take that long anymore. The explanation of the Silver Spoon has been revealed, the new arc is called "four seasons", those are all hints Arakawa is closing the story. Let's not forget, Silver Spoon was supposed to fill the hole between FMA and Arslan in the beginning.
-
Maybe it is for the best if Gin no Saji ends while it's at its peak… Back when FMA ended I felt the same -- I couldn't let go of that marvelous world Arakawa had created. But in hindsight FMA was a complete and wonderful story. And this manga deserves the same treatment. Oh well~
-
Silver Spoon is the ultimate feelgood manga for me.
Not to say that it doesn't have stong characters and a compelling storyline - quite the contrary, if anything Silver Spoon is the real proof of Arakawa being more than just a one-hit wonder. But despite the engaging plot threads and heartfelt character drama, this manga is about creating a special kind of atmosphere for me. It is a sincere and humane confession unlike any other, and that makes it a very unique existence in this industry.
What is more, Silver Spoon actually succeeds as an educational manga as well. I am not talking about its treatment of the agricultural topic - which is also very well done, but is easily explained by Arakawa's personal experience and background showing through the pages of this manga. It is the central message of the manga - there is worth in ones life choice no matter what. I really respect this statement and its treatment being twenty-three, but to a teen it would be quite an eye opener.
Both of the points I am trying to make can be tied to the manga's ending. As long as it competently manages to tell its story, it can finish anytime, but due to its premise and tone, it can even run a while afterwards. So it is all good where I am concerned.
Let's not forget, Silver Spoon was supposed to fill the hole between FMA and Arslan in the beginning.
First time I hear about this. Can you quote Arakawa claiming this?
-
Arslan? First I've heard of it. looks it up Looks awesome, but is unfortunate in that it's an adaptation of a novel series, not Arakawa's own story.
Fullmetal Alchemist had only 108 chapters, so Silver Spoon is already going to exceed it's predecessor. I guess I can see why they won't go through all three years, although this series can time skip through the days and weeks pretty easily and make it seem natural.
-
I read it in a French tweet from newmangajapon
-
I've just started marathoning this series and I have to say it's a very enjoyable manga. Not having-a-blast-and-getting-drunk-in-an-awesome-party kind of enjoyable (that would be FMA), but kinda like sipping-a-warm-tea-in-the-cool-breeze-of-a-countryside kind of enjoyable… if u know what I mean...
After some chapter, u really get attached to these characters and speaking of characters... What an awesome line-up of teachers!!! We have Armstrong, Lara Croft, Chaozu (frrm DB as the principal), & Buddha . I think (in fact, I'm pretty sure) that Arakawa is using other characters as well for the rest of the teacher, but my knowledge isn't enough it seems to spot them.
I honestly think that there are a lot of people here that would enjoy this manga, but the thread just isn't getting bumped enough for people to notice. I know that a slice-of-life type of story won't really have much discussion going for it. But I think bumping it each time a new chapter comes out will help,
-
I wish the P.E. Teacher would get more screen time. Dude, he's one of Arakawa's signature muscle men, why is he not getting more screen time? I guess maybe because a gym teacher doesn't really have much to do in an agriculture school . . . .

I think it's purely because he's Armstrong, he purposely kept him hidden and only used him for punch-line gags (which has been hilarious so far).
-
Since it was requested to bump this thread and since necromancy isn't involved, for now (it was still on page 2), here is chapter 102:

The bit with Hachiken's dad allegedly being part of the yakuza or an assassin was hilarious.
-
^ Well, we actually don't know what company is his father working for, so we can't completely rule out that he is really working for a company run by yakuza: he sure would have the "physique du rôle" :ninja:
-
Btw. The chapter is now out in its entirety.
And going from "I'm trying to get my dad to investing" to "Hachiken is trying to get the yakuza to invest" was funny.

New chapter is out:
http://manga.redhawkscans.com/reader/read/silver_spoon/en/0/103/page/1I felt like a necromancer, while searching for this thread… :ninja:
-
LOL. I understand how u feel, I was also looking for this thread to post a new chapter.
Anyway… new chapter is out!!! Discuss..... or not
-
A doubt about the ending: is Komaba flying to Tokyo? Seems to remember that Haneda is one of the airports near Tokyo (together with Narita), but I'm not so sure at the moment.
Anyway, Okawa is still my favourite supporting character. -
Eeek! They time-skipped to Spring! Don't be a harbringer of an ending!
-
Time skip all the way to spring! So does this mean next chapter they'll be third years?
-
What is with the surprised expressions? The arc is called "Four Seasons" for a reason, you know.
-
Arakawa might be planning on telling us the tale of their third year in more detail after basically skimming through the second one.
…he says, fully aware of what's to come.
-
Has anybody tried Noble Farmer, her autobiographic serie she is currently serializing ? If yes how do you find it compared to Silver Spoon ?

Only 2 chapters were scanlated. I think this series had stopped publishing a few years ago.

No, it's ongoing in a monthly magazine. There are 3 volumes out already. 2 were published in France and it seems it has been published in English too.

Didn't know that.
I find this series to be quite fun but many similarity to Gin no saji as they share the same source material
-
From chapter 110, Silver Spoon will be published irregularly.
-
-
She wants to stay with her family more.
-
I reckon that was the reason, either that or health problems, good thing it's the former.
-
Is the anime adaptation of this manga good ?
-
Is the anime adaptation of this manga good ?
Yes, it is. In fact its quite hilarious even. I'd give it a go.
Since I'm already in here. Been a while since the last chapter. I'm starting to forget things '-'
-
I reckon that was the reason, either that or health problems, good thing it's the former.
Actually, it is both. One of her family member is sick.
-
@Kaizou:

Yeah I found out more about her reason but it's great that she herself isn't sick.
-
It's also a matter of scanlations, if it feels like we haven't got anything new in a long time. The last chapter translated was number 104, while the last chapter published (in Japan) was number 110. In short, we are 6 chapters behind. Not that I'm complaining, mind you: I'm not in a hurry to read it in english, too.

We're not really talking about the scanlations; we're talking about actual releases in Japan.

Yes, I know, it was only to point out that, since we still have a buffer of chapters in waiting, a hiatus in Japan won't really affect anyone who read it scanlated, at least for a while. Should some reader be worried about it, of course…
-
Speak of the devil. Chapter 105 is out.
Rare choice manga can entertain you with pages of potato anthropomorphizations.
-
What chapter should i start reading the manga from if i watched both seasons of the anime ?
