Yeah, definitely an import for me.

Maybe this game will finally get my brother into OP. He loves Dynasty Warriors, hopefully 'cos Koei are involved in this it might make him want to play it. One can only hope. Also, as long as this game isn't a Dynasty Warriors clone, I'll be happy. I hate those games.
See perhaps this is why they keep making games like this. Because they're cheap and they know people'll buy them just because they're OP.
Or maybe because Dyansty Warriors is a fucking awesome template and I'd be buying it regardless. Hell, I've gotten 2 Gundam games now, and I'm not even a big Gundam fan.
The fact that its One Piece Dyansty Warriors just means that, for me, its going to be AMAZING.

Define "clone". The games share a lot of basic conceits, but the actual gameplay and the way specific characters control changes a lot between sequels and franchises.
How is the Gundam one? Not a Gundam fan but I wanted more after Plating DW7 and finishing SW 3DS.
I'll probably be getting this. I'm reserving judgement. Robin, Nami and Chopper playable will make it an insta-buy. But I'm holding out till I see them. Like I said before. I'm not buying another OP game that randomly misses out a third the main cast as playable for no valid reason. And I couldn't really care less about smashing things with Luffy, Zoro and Sanji XD
I actually watched every Gundam series so I could be familiar with the characters when I play them. DWG3 is very good, I highly recommend it if you've already played DW7 to death.

Well my brother's only got the original Dynasty Warriors games (The Romance of the Three Kingdoms ones), he hasn't got any Gundam ones or anything. It's just that when I first heard there's going to be a OP game for the PS3 and I saw the name Koei I feared the worst, on a personal preference level, due to the fact all the DW games seem really identical to me. You are right though, there are some drastic differences between some DW games that even I can recognise. Basically I don't like the whole cutting through swathes of mindless fodder thing that DW seems to do and I thought that's what this game might be, but so far it doesn't really look like that kinda game.
Sorry, but what's a musou?

Nearly everything I know about Gundam I learned from Gundam Musou 2. The story mode teaches you a lot. (It sucks to be a girl in the gundam universe. They almost always die while piloting a monster mech against the hero.) I now have favorite characters and mechs and I've never even seen most of the series.
As for gameplay… if you actually had the patience to plat DW7, you'd probably enjoy it plenty. Gundams have dash boosters, which are incredibly fun and add a lot to it by giving them fast movement and dash attacks, I HOPE running gets implemented into other Koei games in some fashion. And giant laser beams of death are really satisfying. The level design in GM3 is horrid, but I've enjoyed the hell out of the actual game.

But its so SATISFYING when you get stronger and you can start clearing out swaths of fodder in a single attack. And the fodder is just there to build up your super bar.
Really, its NOT about destroying the enemy, its enjoying playing the character and kicking ass with them.
Sorry, but what's a musou?
"Dynasty Warriors" stateside. "Special move" in-game.
in the case of DW7 I also loved the story. Learning about the chars etc. I found all of the game to be a joy. Even unlocking everything~
I'll get Gundam 3 once they sort out the price on Zavvi. £17 for 360 ver. £36 for PS3 >.<

When you put it that way, it does does sound very enticing. On second thought, I don't think I'd mind too much if this new OP game is like DW. Can you imagine kicking ass and taking names with characters like Luffy & Zoro, hell even Usopp. Now that I'd pay money for.

I hated DW7 because they slaughtered 2 player mode… (I ALWAYS play with one of my friends, its a large part of the experience for me. But to have to just sit out and alternate during story mode? Lame.) There was no incentive to play on hard because better weapons didn't drop there... and the weapon sharing made all the characters, for all intents and purposes, identical aside from their supers. Really, did not like it.

Given that its apparently post time-skip, Usopp should be really crazy with all his plant based abilities.
No idea what the hell they're going to do with Franky. He should be extra insane.
But yes, all the Strawhats are requisites the first time out. The roster can grow in sequels, so I'm not too worried about secondary characters, and 10 characters is enough to get by with if they're sufficiently complex and well thought out (Sengoku Basara had great stage design and the characters have so many layers that even after playing one of them for 20 hours you're still finding new things, but only a handful of characters.) but they HAVE to have at least all the strawhats.
Everyone after that is gravy.
One problem I think we'll see is how a lot of the major players will essentially become fodder. In DW the commanders are important in the storyline. But they all go down as easy as the others.
Although it'll be so satisfying seeing Usopp or Chopper take down 3000 marines including Akainu, Aokiji, Kizaru, Garp, Smoker, Sengoku and Hina XD

Gundam 3 has respawn. As long as the enemies have morale, the generals can keep coming back for a second round. Or a third, or a fifth. That could alleviate some of that. And "retreating" isn't the same as "utter defeat". But Kuma is the only confirmed enemy character so far, so who knows? (I would guess all the shichibukai will be in, given that… but who else?)
But who would be the token Lu Bu monster that you just have to run from because he can kill you in a single hit?
well we have oars. so if they put all of the 1st part of one piece in the game we could have some giant bosses.
and pacifistas/kuma arent exactly small. xD
True, but they are bigger then them, though.
Also, if I had to guess, East Blue battles would be rather similar to Hokuto Musou: The Straw Hats with generic NPC officers and soldiers of a millitia from whatever town it's from/Baratie chefs against the expanded Pirate crews of Buggy/Arlong/Krieg/Etc, and larger-scale battles like Marineford, Eneis' Lobby, Arabasta being like the normal ones.
So yeah, I'm satisified.
@RobbyBevard:

Whitebeard, of course.

Well, no matter what, I think we can safely say it should be a damn good game and we'll hopefully have a blast playing it.

To be honest. Considering the context of the game and how it plays. I personally don't think it would be THAT much of a stretch to re-use pretty much everyone who was in Unlimited Cruise. The survival mode in that is more-or-less a watered down version of Warriors anyways.
As for the 'Lu Bu' I think Whitebeard or Akainu could fit that role. Maybe even Monster Chopper.

Has it been said anywhere that the game is going to cover the whole series? Or is that just fan wishful thinking? That is just… not something you do in a first outing. Especially not with something as long and character filled as OP.
Given that we know its timeskip Luffy, I would not count on that at all. All the strawhats are going to be their modern versions. And while they COULD do a "pre-skip" and "post-skip" selection with different movesets (its what the Dragonball and Gundam games do) thats asking them to double the starting roster on... just the strawhats. Their energy would be better spent on... any other distinct character rather than giving us the same 9 twice.
(Of course, the post-skip movesets haven't been shown so much, so that could be tricky.)
Some shichibukai are already guaranteed... supernovas and high rank marines (Smoker, Admirals) seem like likely bets as well. But the likes of Morgan, Kuro or Don Krieg, or lower tier supernovas like Capone or Urogue are probably right out. Jinbe is INCREDIBLY likely, for a variety of reasons.
The other question is, how many of them will be tease enemy characters with unique movesets that you only get to watch... and how many will actually be playable?
First outing roster will probably be more than 10... but not more than 20. Once they have all the assetts and the system in place the sequel can expand tremendously.
You know you can play Japanese games on American PS3s but not European games on American PS3s. That is unless they don't bother with region restriction at all.
PS3 games aren't region-coded.
considering Gigant Battle 2's Roster we are more likely to get Drake than anyone of actual relevance to the plot like Moriah or Eneru.
We will see both versions of Mugiwara certainly. Even if the pre-TS versions simply appear as DLC. (cus we all know there'll be that.) aside from that I'm not sure. WB and Ace are pretty much shoo-ins. And I wouldn't rule out Hancock. Female-wise there's not much other choice as playable anyways. Shirahoshi, Vivi, Margaret, Hina and Sadi-Chan. Doubt we'll see any of them. MAYBE Hina I guess.
Shichibuki I think we'll see them all. Hancock and Jinbe due to recent actions, Kuma is confirmed. BB would be surprised if he wasn't in. Mihawk seems to get in every OP game anyways. He's probably more likely than Robin is. Moriah…hmmm...I'm unsure. While he was a enemy and a major one for the arc...hmmm. Maybe it's just Gigant Battle rubbing off. But if they didn't see fit to including him as playable in that then I don't think we'll see him here unless there's a large roster. I think Marco is more likely than him. Doflamingo will be lucky to get in. He hasn't really got a moveset still even after Marineford.
Akainu, Aokiji, Kizaru, Magellan, Croc and Buggy should be playable too due to recentness. Hodi, VDD and another from Fishman isle too. Maybe Neptune?
@RobbyBevard:

Supposedly the game will encompass from "Beginning the trip" to "Entering the new world". Whatever that means.
Can I have a better source of this leaked "One Piece Musou" title? The only thing I saw in the article posted was just something written by someone, is it reliable?, I didn't see any actual source or screenshot of where did he get the game was going to have a Musou tag on it.
Don't get me wrong, I'm gonna love it if it is a Musou title since I love the DW series, but I want to be 100% sure of this.
PERHAPS this will ease you a little bit

I took DW7 as more of a stepping stone to fixing the series after the disaster that was DW6. Fixed the clone problem within development time limitations, got rid of the crap that was Renbu, ect. So the way I look at it is that now they can take the complaints from 7, reduce the cloneage even more, and basically make 8 perfect.

I'm going to guess around the 25-30ish range with characters like Kuro or Krieg being like Uighur or Zeed in being specific stage-only unique model NPCs.
magic box says its being developed by Omega Force. what is techmo koei doing then?
What do you mean? Isn't Omega Force just an internal developer of Tecmo Koei?
well if they make the story mode from the beginning of the series to the new world thats a lot of characters to put in.
also the game was revealed now but we dont know how long has been since development begun. they could have started developing the game one year ago and just now revealed it.

That's… usually how it works, yeah. Announcing a game early in development is generally a no-no unless it's a long-running series (like Final Fantasy).
Those scans, they look so awesome!
what i meant to say is that they had time to make all the major characters.
so we can hope that we will get a good roster.
im as excited as you guys but im still worried that they might wont release an english version of the game.
is there any sign for it to come in english version?
its true that they release an english version for bleach and gundam, but im still worried s very much.
i want it so bad but a japanese version only will ruin everything.

English releases usually aren't officially announced until several months after a game has actually come out in japan. So we won't know for a while. We dont even know when the game is out in Japan yet.
That said, Koei releases nearly everything they do stateside because they know they have a certain core fanbase.
Remember that Bleach PS3 game, many thought it wasn't gonna be translated either (It still sucked by the way), but it was a shock to everyone when it was announced that it would be dubbed, maybe that will happen here.

People thought that? I sure didn't. Pretty obvious it'd come here because it was BLEACH. Bleach and Naruto get shit localized.

Most of the "Bleach" games that came stateside came soon after it started broadcasting on [adult swim]. At a certain point, probably when anime started to die out on American T.V., they stopped coming, that is up until recently.
That said Bandai Namco is the one who has the publishing rights in Japan and America, so I don't know how much say Koei has.
People thought that? I sure didn't. Pretty obvious it'd come here because it was BLEACH. Bleach and Naruto get shit localized.
that's true. i wonder why ppl think that OP doesnt have as many fans as the other two. that's why im afraid that it wont be any english version for this game.
japan dub + english sub = perfect.
THEN! They would be making a million shitty games cuz the name alone sells. No I BUY these games because in the last 5 years, only 4 decent games have been released. and two of them are the same game.
lololololol
oh wait you're serious?
This line of thinking is exactly why they stay that way, as well. Why can't anime-based games be fantastic?
Because some Japanese developers (just like some American developers) don't care much for the games they're developing must less the consumers they're foisting these games upon.
Comic-book based games were the same way then, boom, Arkham Asylum.
Not all comic book based games were like that just like not all anime based games are like that plus AA spent a lot time being developed.
PS3 games aren't region-coded.
Huh, I just looked it up and you're right. Well what'dya know.

thumb up for beating me 1st for saying that. some of the hack and slash koei games have just that. i vote for the translation part to done by one of the more veteran sub group either that be in anime or manga
Stupid question: If this is a One Piece game, why was this thread moved from General One Piece to Videogames?
lololololol
oh wait you're serious?
How's that funny mutha fuckah? Care to disprove me on that?
Stupid question: If this is a One Piece game, why was this thread moved from General One Piece to Videogames?
That's why. To be perfectly honest, it is sort of confusing cause OP video games have always just been in General One Piece. The reason that was given was that people kept making threads for the game in the Video Game forum and mods got tired of constantly deleting/merging them.
I preffer this thread in OP General too. We have some OP game threads in OP General and this thread in Video Games, it´s contradictory.
People didn't keep making threads for the other OP games in the video games section.
Just this one, for whatever reason.
I might move it back in a few days after people have settled down about it being breaking news.
Can we get a translation to what the scan says specifically? I know it's announcing the new game, but is there any other info in it?
Marineford on the bottom left, maybe their just gonna tell the story with image stills..
EDIT: Full scan.
Pics.

T in 2ch announced a new One Piece game for PS3.
No more details, but I think is a game from Bandai Namco, look at this link.
this brings tears to my eyes ;-;
But…I bet any amount of money it won't come to America...
kind of hoping new game would be for the wii u
i mean from my past experience of these games they have a SHIT ton of menu stuff that i think would be much better handeled on a tablet screen
maybe it will get ported, but otherwise count my excitement at 0 for sole fact that i doubt this comes over to US.

PS3 are region free. You can play Japanese version anyways.
Yeah I'll be importing even if it comes over here. Must buy now.
