Few More Months: The Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Thread

Nice!!!
-
Oh hey we are getting the Green Goblin.
-
I'm not terribly good at fighters, no better than a Pub Warrior really but I love the community and watching tournaments. Rocket Raccoon and Phoenix Wright are two of my favorite characters from anything, period and they sound all kinds of fun to play so they'll definitely be on my team. And if Shuma's on disc, so will he.
-
Hmm… Rocket Raccoon sounds like a faster Arthur. I love me some Arthur ;) haha I think were gonna be good friends Mr.Raccoon ;)
Phoenix Wright has a ultra made of win!!! I'm just glad the incorporated, his trademarks.
I wish they said more about Vergil....
Frank West sounds cool. Same as TvC so that's fine.
Iron Fist sounds really interesting. I am very pleased with his unique mechanics, and overall I am sure he will be a great character.
Nova... o Nova... you still sound terribly lame to me. But we will see...
-
Strong Normals, good reversal options, and a great zoning game. These are things that you could use to describe Ryu in Street Fighter 4, but in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Seth and I both agreed that Taskmaster did it better in every regard. Ryu’s new move set is to try and set him apart from the rest of the cast.
Ryu got the new Hypersonic Fireball that moves as fast as a bullet and explodes, a stream of two-thirds screen fireballs, and a powered up Shoryuken that shoots a vertical projectile (kind of like Cyclops).
Any character that has an existing move set is harder to bring up to speed, (I mentioned that in MvC2 most of the lower tier were Capcom characters, as they already had existing moves), while new characters can be made too powerful very easily. The challenge comes in when trying to take an existing character, power them up, but make him or her handle the same way.
Nova and Doctor Strange are both good examples of characters that could have been made dozens of different ways, with different move sets.
Phoenix Wright was the hardest character to make moves for. Seth said, “Wright is either overpowered or decent, and right now I can’t really tell which.”
I confessed my love for Iron Fist, and Seth said, “He’s come a long way, initially he was kind of boring to play as, but now he has a lot of amazing looking Chi moves and is a blast.”
I compared Rocket Racoon to a small, furry Cable. Seth came back with, “I don’t know why people keep saying that.” I guess maybe he doesn’t play like Cable… maybe he’s more of a small, furry BB Hood?
I asked Seth if you paired up She-Hulk and Phoenix Wright together as Judge and Jury, who would be the executioner? His pick was Nemesis.
Wolverine still plays the same, and is still really good. He just got mild nerfs to Berserker Charge and Berserker Slash. He’s still aggressive; he just can’t throw out crazy 50/50 mixups all the time.
When I asked Seth if his main man Thor got any love, he laughed and said, “No, right this second Thor isn’t much different.”
Hsein Ko is another character that is difficult to balance due to the move set she has to work with.

I kinda miss that Storm no longer has a costume reference to X-treme X-men, but I can understand why they took it out, it was way too similar to her standard colors.
-
Way too much usage of black hair, IMO. Otherwise, I like them.
Love the Guy costume, but I think the scarf should have been yellow. The white just doesn't make sense with the reset of the costume.
However, I'd either use purple or white. Though, it's cute that the brown is supposed to resemble Ibuki.
And forgive me, but the Ghost Rider costumes are hideous IMO.

That "Guy" alternate is pretty sweet.

While those 2 are pretty awesome, The article seems to be really stretching with some of the descriptions ans explanations. Gambit? Fury? Really !? -__-

Wolverine and Magneto. Nothing really outstanding really. http://fans.marvel.com/marvel_interactive/blog/2011/09/09/magneto_and_wolverine_alternates_in_ultimate_marvel_vs._capcom_3

Are we serious? This is what we're deeming as alternate colors? -
For that they should have used the X-Men Evolution costume, That one's my fav Wolverine costume.

No M. Bison, but a Wesker Bison Alternate?
=\
-
Wesker had a Vergil alternate, but that didn't rule out Vergil's eventual inclusion.

I can't look at this game with optimism, so I'll shut up.
I will say that there is a good chance I'll get a used copy of this.
-
Spectator Mode is enough redemption in my eyes (and the price tag).
And the Jean Grey nerfs xD
Now… if we could get a Phoenix Wright trailer.
-
holds onto tree branch
I just feel like we shouldn't have to pay for something that should have been included or patched in the original game. Meaning nerfs, buffs, and spectator mode.
The 12 characters, majority of which I don't really care for (save for Strider, Iron Fist, and Phoenix Wright), are completely understandable for having a whole new game for, and I don't question that. I do question the selection of characters, but that's purely opinion.
But the game feels like I'm paying 39.99 for one character I really like, two characters I decently like, nine characters I'm not exactly a fan for (no offense Hawkeye or Dr. Strange fans, as they are pretty cool), a mode so simple that it was included in MK9 but not vanilla, extra nerfing or buffing that pales in comparison to previous 'vanilla upgrades', a promise of future DLC characters that feel reminiscent to the promise of DLC characters for vanilla, and a secret mode that has yet to be mentioned that will most likely disappoint considering Capcom's track record for 'super, awesome new modes for MvC3' (Event Mode, anyone?).
If you're a big fan of this game and/or most of the characters given, more power to you. I won't stop you from buying it. But….I'm just not happy with what they're giving us, and I'm just very salty with Capcom in general (with or without the existence of UMvC3) at the moment.
And whether I'd want the game or not, there is no way I can get it on release, at the moment.
-
$39.99*
-
Whoops.
Either way, it's not the price that bothers me. It's simply giving Capcom my money.
EDIT: I will give them all my money for SF x Tekken. That seems to be where they are putting far more effort, talent, and overall excellence in. I'll happily put my money on things that they actually try and risk for.
-
To be fair, SF x Tekken, by concept alone, deserves more money than any Capcom fighting game made this side of "Capcom Vs. SNK"
But I hear ya, MvC3 kind of felt somewhat "hollow" to the other Vs. games, by I imagine that was mostly because some of us, myself included, had hyped the game as the Second (third?) Coming of Enel.
To me, the spectator mode and the nerfs is plenty reason to re-buy (DLC?) the game, the added characters is just icing on the cake.
Especially since 40 bucks for a game nowadays is lolcheap.
-
Can't really blame all of it on Capcom as it u's MARVEL VS CAPCOM.
Marvel also has say on how and what they can do with their characters and the game too.
Most of u's bought ssf4 and I doubt anyone of u's liked or actually use the added characters.
All and all honestly don't like it? Move on.
-
^ Then there was that.
Marvel apparently is QUITE adamant about certain people being included.

…You mean like Dudley? And Juri? And Hakan? And Guy? And Cody? And Adon? And Ibuki? And Makoto? Nobody used them? Man, super speak for yourself.
Super Street Fighter IV was a clear and noticeable upgrade over the original with a ton of new characters and content.
It's AE that was anything but. Especially when they said straight up PURPOSELY and EAGERLY unbalanced the game, forcing competitors to go out and buy the new version in order to stay competitive.
Marvel gets to decide what characters can and can't be included from their end. It's Capcom, not Marvel, that said the earthquake changed their plans for the game. Marvel didn't tell them "hey, announce a new game with these very basic features that we initially said were impossible to implement like spectator mode 8 months after the initial release, oh and hey, let's lie about all those DLC promises we made." Marvel ain't programming shit, nor is it involved in any of the PR for the game. It's all Capcom, and Killian, and Svensson. You may not like people taking issue with it, but don't act like we don't have a good reason. Especially when Capcom repeatedly blows smoke up our ass - not just about this game (Megaman? Gene? WHO'RE THEY?), but their others as well.
-
I think Toshi meant Yun and Yan and Evil Ryu and Eviler (?) Akuma.
I think :x
-
There's a pretty easy difference between saying SSF4 and AE.
Either way, AE is still well worthy of being unhappy with.
-
Maybe me being a fan of marvel and knowing most of the cast and been raped by Capcom enough for them to tale my money I honestly don't care if they made it on a disc format.
Makes it easy for people with no net and tournaments to run alot easier.
Most of the time we don't like the set of characters they gave us but we end up liking them in he end.
When ya do the math it ends up being cheaper to buy the disc than it being dlc.
There busting a ssf4 on us. Umvc3 will have better hooks so they can make mmx, gene, venom etc as dlc cause that's what everyone wants and that's where they are gonna make the money.
Anyways TGS is this week and I'm sure they will reveal 4 characters trailers and my guess are :
Rocket Racoon, P.Wright, Iron Fist and Vergil.

Especially since 40 bucks for a game nowadays is lolcheap.Yea, no. Sorry but I really have a problem with this train of thought: You're basically saying you would pay Capcom 40 dollars for the characters to become more/less powerful and the ability to see matches while you wait your turn online. You should not be comfortable with paying extra money for fixes and features that should be done for free or already in the game you purchased. At this point you're pretty much paying a dollar per character buff/nerf and this is unacceptable.
Also, I see all the time people saying things like "why are you upset, it's just 40 dollars? you're getting 12 characters and new modes for less than you'd pay for dlc!". The problem is it's not dlc we can pick and choose, like we were promised when we made an initial 60 dollar purchase, it's a bundle that had the complete focus of Capcom while our original MvC3 was left unfixed, unsupported, and abandoned.
Why am I upset by these things? Let's act like I'm quoting a Capcom exec about this game:
Before release date "Hey guys, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is almost here! After ten years of waiting the dream matchup is back; The game will have a robust story, a unique cast and will be supported with fixes and future DLC! Plus a bunch of other goodies that we know you'll love!"
Right after release date "Hey guys, hope you've been having fun with Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Sorry about the story thing, we had to cut it due to time constraints or something. But don't worry, we've been hearing your feedback about better match making, buff/nerfs and spectator mode and don't worry, it's on it's way!"
A month after release "Hey guys, the first of many DLC characters are here: Jill Valentine and Shuma Gorath. Yes we've heard the things about them being on disc already but they weren't quite ready. NOW they are and you can get the unlock code for the low price of 5 dollars each. OH! Have you noticed us fixing the matchmaking and things? We're listening to the fans and plan to keep supporting them with great things like "shadow battle" and "event mode", it's all very exciting! Until next time!"
A month after DLC "Hey guys, sorry we've been kind of lax on the fixes but we promise that we've got something big planned! In the meantime, make sure to try out the new events and purchase more shadow battles for less than a dollar! Also don't worry, spectator mode is coming soon!"
3 months later "Hey guys, we're proud to announce Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3! The game will have unique new characters, many fixes and future DLC! Plus a bunch of other goodies we know you'll love!"
This shit is a problem and a mess: People should not be GRATEFUL for what Capcom is doing by giving us "fixes, characters and new modes for just 40 dollars", they should be UPSET that they didn't get any "fixes, characters and new modes after the first month of our 60 dollar game".
-
Upset over a game is rarely in my lexicon.
That's the main problem with that wall of text.
I feel for you, I really do, but for me this is more of a blessing than anything, since making this a free DLC would be bonkers - just the coding alone would be a nightmare I bet.
Expecting THAT much for free (or "pick and choose DLC" as you put it) seems like a bit much.
Especially when it's just more comfortable, within the confines of the console industry, to just sell a bigger upgrade for less money.
Then again, I'm used to just paying monthly for upgrades :V
-
I'll get upset over anything I spend money on that does not live up to the amount of money I spend on it. MvC3 is not a 110+ dollar game no matter I look at it and it's not acceptable.
Edit: You mean to tell me that, minus the new moves, they couldn't have done all those buffs/nerfs within this 5 month period? It doesn't have to be at the same time but periodic patches. They couldn't release these DLC characters and let us pick the ones we wanted? No, 40 dollars for them all or GTFO.
-
As I said before, I'm not all that upset with UMvC3. If you like most of the characters, buy the game. Hell, if you want the game, buy the game. I just don't have that much interest in the game, and I'm upset with Capcom, not the game. While I am annoyed by certain things with this game, something like this wouldn't make me as salty as I am with Capcom. I'm much more pissed off about Resident Evil: Mercenaries 3DS, Megaman Legends 3, and Capcom's overall communication with their fans in all this.
And Marvel having an affect on the cast bothers me none, mostly because the Marvel half of the cast doesn't bother me all that much. I like Iron Fist. I respect Hawkeye, Dr. Strange, and Ghost Rider. I don't know a damn thing about Nova or Rocket Raccoon. If I have any qualms with the last two, it's that I would have preferred to have someone I actually know, but if anything, that's much more my fault for being ignorant of the characters. Hell, I loved Marvel vs Capcom 1, and I didn't know who Morrigan, Strider, Jin, Captain Commando, or Roll were. Now, I adore most of them. I have more issues with the Capcom half of the new 12 than the Marvel half.
Also, Super Street Fighter IV introduced me to Cody, Guy, Juri, Hakan, Abel, Dudley, and Ibuki. I'm not very good with Makoto, T. Hawk, or Dee Jay, but they have their fans (especially Makoto). SSF4 was an excellent collection of new cast members. I agree that Oni and Evil Ryu was a stupid idea, IMO.
-
Yeah, I'm with competition all the way. Capcom did a WHOLE lot of misleading to get to where this game is now.
I think they've got you hook line and sinker, bro.
-
Everyone so salty lol.
I know what I'm buying and I don't care really. I like all the new characters save for 2, the new moves, buffs/nerfs, new HUD, new modes etc.
-

I completely admit to being salty.
And I don't think less of you at all for getting this game
EDIT: That's not a bash at all. I swear.
-
Expecting THAT much for free (or "pick and choose DLC" as you put it) seems like a bit much.
I don't think anyone was expecting free DLC characters/stages. Just the gameplay balancing and spectator mode. If that had been implemented for free, and DLC characters come out to buy once every month or so, then you can go "Hmm, I really don't give a shit about Nemesis. I don't feel like buying him. I'll wait for Phoenix Wright and Ghost Rider."
I too am salty. But I've been saying since this thing was announced, No Megaman, No sale. I'm willing to dip if he's DLC , but until that day happens, UMVC3 will see no money from me.
-
Street fighter 4 was released in February 2009 (not considering the fact that it was in arcades in July of 2008), then SS4 was released in April 2010. I don't really need to remind ya'll what they added to Super. It felt like a legitimate upgrade… it felt like the time gap was wide enough to warrant and upgrade (plus I played the HELL out of 4, so I had already got my money's worth). And any qualms I had about it being on a different disc were dashed with the new characters, ultras, stages, music, modes, etc. So I really wouldn't compare MvC3's "update" with Street Fighter 4's update. And don't forget all of MvC3's broken or misleading promises.
I was just hoping for a wider gap. Maybe even another year or so.... imagine how much more they could have added. And I'm not saying the new marvel looks bad or anything.... but it hasn't even been a year. Plain and simple.
I bought the special edition (preordered and all) and, well... I don't feel very special anymore...
Or just ask yourself this... If you would have known Ultimate was coming out the same year as Vanilla, would you have been as willing to purchase the first game?
Not to mention that Capcom is stupid or has some serious balls to be releasing this game in November next to all the TITANS being released (CoD, Skyrim, Assassin's Creed, Uncharted, more!). With how wallets are going to be gang banged from soo many directions by these gaming giants... I just don't understand how Capcom expects to compete by releasing, well... an update?
-
The window to use and release certain characters and the fact that both Marvel and Capcom have games coming out soon they only found time to release than. If they werent releasing one of the games they announced this game would of came out next year with 8 more characters added to the 12 making it more than MVC2 and might of had time to add more modes and balance fix.
-

So basically the situation is even worse than it could've been?
We get a within-the-year update to a game they're STILL discovering bugs for and lose out on 20 characters in exchange for 12 and some BASIC day one features we should've had from the get go. The kicker is when other companies balance a game they've come around to the idea that balances alone aren't something you should have to play for. Even with Blazblue CS2 you can GET the balance changes without having to pay for the additional characters which are DLC. MMOs have been using this strategy for a long time, and at least other games which release updates wait longer than a year to do it, making serious tweaks and additions. People got MvC3 this year. Capcom has gone back or reneged on almost every one of their promises for that game, but now you're telling me they could have done more for UMvC3 but won't so they can nickel and dime us for more in the future?
How is this defensible in any way? Hell yeah I'm salty. You'd be a fool not to be.
-
I'm so used to Capcom doing this I just gave up honestly and IMO I dont mind paying 40$ on a game I know I am gonna enjoy playing with friends.
Yea I am gonna buy all the DLC they are gonna offer if I see if I need it.
Im salty but I dont care no more.
-
That's what Capcom wants IMO: The consumers know they do this with fighters and know they'll get upset but will still buy the upgrade because they "just don't care".
