I finally read the famous Marvel vs DC comic line.
I loved it. Jubilee and Tim Drake make a great couple.

Ugh!!!! I am sorry anime master, I really couldn't disagree with you more.
-
Aw come on! The juniors from both worlds! Its awsome!
-
listen I don't think the fact that they are both tennager's mean omg they are teh awesome. I understand it was just a little thing DC and Marvel did. Looking back on it that whole thing was kind of lame.
-
Yeah I suppose…
but Marvel vs DC Acess had X-Men vs JL.
It does not get better then that. -
So I picked up New Avengers and the Civil War Wolverine tie in today.
New Avengers was Eehhh, mostly because I am waaayy to hyped about Civil War to care about the fallout from house of M and I have never been a fan of Mike Deodato Jr. At this point I feel like I am reading this thing out of habit, waiting for it to get good again.
Wolverine however was a good read for any Wolverine fan who is reading Civil War. It was basically logan just doing what he does best. "Screw the politics, I am gonna go get the guy who killed all those kids that no one seems to care about". The art was pretty good, I have always liked Humberto Ramos, but I am not wild about his Wolverine, it's good but not great.
I would kill to see Romita drawing this arc though. Man I loved his enemy of the state run on Wolverine. I swear that man can do no wrong (well except for Black Panther, but that wasn't him I just can't stand the character).
-
I finally picked up Civil War #1 the other day. It was pretty awesome.
I also picked up a few volumes of Hulk (Planet Hulk), and some Cable & Deadpools. These were the first comics I've bought and read in like 9 year, by the way.
The Planet Hulk arc is pretty awesome. Apparently it's going to be 16 issues long, I'm excited. Next issue he fights against Silver Surfer!
Cable & Deadpool is pretty funny. Deadpool is now one of my favorite comic book characters.
-
Good, that is as it should be.
Yeah I read a bit of Hulk in Waldens. I like what I am reading, but I am strapped for cash and have never been a big Hulk fan.
-
I was excited as hell when I found out that Cable & Deadpool would have Civil War tie-ins. Apparently Deadpool is going to fight Daredevil! I hope Wade kicks his ass.
-
Okay… I've been interested in getting in to American comics again recently (as I've only been following manga mostly for a pretty long time), as I haven't in quite a long time and I have a couple questions.
What's this Civil War thing? I've heard a lot about it, but no specifics on what it is.
What are some comics worth trying, that are either still going or easily accessable?
Currently the only ones I've looked in to much are Young Avengers and Doom Patrol (which doesn't appear to fit either of the aforementioned categories but... still gonna try and find it, if I can), and I'd like to know what else other people think would be worth checking in to. -
I just picked up a couple more comics, Wolverine #42, Wolverine Origins #1, Fantastic 4 #537, and Cable and Deadpool #28.
The latest Wolverine comics have the attitude down right, but the art is kind of "Eh", espically the regular Wolverine series.
As for C&DP, it is just great how Deadpool gets most of the attention, though even seeing Cable for just one panel is bad. (Not a fan of the Summers family line, as you can tell)
And then there's Fantastic 4, I am not a fan of that team, aside from the Thing, but I had to get this issue since DOOM is in it and how he tells the tale of how he escapes from hell. Just fantastic.

Basically the plot is that because of a huge superhero related incident, Congress is passing the Super Human Registration act, requiring all superheroes to be registered with the government, and be trained and better controlled. Naturally, this has caused a huge rift in the superhero community. There's going to be a huge fight; those against the SHR Act, lead by Captain America, and those for the SHR Act, lead by Iron Man.
Oh, and Captain America is against the SHR Act because he didn't like the idea of S.H.I.E.L.D. forcing him to fight people who risk their lives for the country everyday.
-
I don't know how long ago (4 years maybe?) this is but I was wondering if anyone could help me with this one X-Men storyline.
I'm looking for where or when the storyline of Apocolypse starts gathering "The Twelve" for his plan or something, then he wants to channel all of the powers into Nate Grey only to be foiled by Cyclops taking Nate's place, then timelines get distorted.
I've read the X-men and Wolverine issues of the crossover and IMO, it was kinda mediocre. The storyline was nothing special, you had a good fight or two and some very debatable character resolutions. Issue-wise, the storyline started somewhere around Uncanny X-Men #376, Wolverine #145, X-Men #93 and Cable #71. That's as far as I know.

DOOM is all that is man, "Come, There is DOOM ENOUGH FOR ALL" "I will require a bath and a new prime minister, the latter can wait the former can not" The man is just so goddamn quotable. I didn't pick up that issue but damn it I might just have to. Just for that fucking monologue alone about how he got out of hell. Damn Doom is kick ass.

Man, I'm really hyped up on Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. That game looks sweet as hell. I did some reading up on the game, and allegedly the Wii version will have 4 exclusive characters (it originally said so on the official site, but it has been changed to "exclusive content." Since the PS3 and Xbox360 can only boast about hi-res and hi-def crap in their version description, looks like the Wii might be the only version with console exclusive characters). From the confirmed characters right now, I can't wait to use Ghost Rider and The Thing, especially Ghost Rider; I loved him when I was really young. And I'm surprised that Blade and Elektra were put in the game. That came out of left field.
I'm really hoping to see Hulk, Deadpool, and Iron Man. Plus with the Wii's online capability, there's possibilities for all sorts of Co-Op fun.
Man, this is crazy. I pick up a few comics, for the first time in 10 years, and I'm hooked. It feels good, kind of, to get into something that's kind of fresh to me.
I came across this awesome scan of Ultimate Hulk while reading on Wikipedia, and couldn't resist:
-
RUNAWAYS WILL HAVE A CIVIL WAR TIE IN!
Marvel…i love you almost as much as I do DC Batman.
-
@Anime:

no Runaway's will have a Young Avengers crossover tie in. I really love Marvel as well.
-
I picked up The Inredible Hulk #95
THE HULK VS. SILVER SURFER!
'Nuff said.
Man, I love how they're handling Hulk now. Instead of just being a raging idiot he's bloodthirsty and cunning.
At The Due's recomendation, I also picked up The Sentry #1-5.
-
I'm interested in picking up some of the tie-ins to civil war. Does anyone have any recommendations? Also, is Civil War: Front Line worth picking up?
-
Well, it's not out yet, so nobody knows.
-
Is anyone reading Ex Machina? I just picked up volume 3 and its great.
-
Picked up the newest batman…so powerful.
The ending...kinda sad since Dent's no longer Gothams protector and is back to "normal" -
@Pass:

Just finished Front Line 1 and it was a good read.
! Peter had a nice chat with a reporter. Tony unmasked. Speedball is alive, depowered, and under arrest. Supposedly he is the only survivor. I tend not to believe things like that when I read them.
-
Eh, I thought the scene of Tony unmasking himself was hilariously overdramatic and pointless, since everyone already knows who he is. (see: Civil War #1)
Other than that, it was good. As an aspiring writer, it's fun to see a story focusing on journalists.
-
So I finally got around to buying some comics. Got some stuff from Young Avengers (they only had one issue in stock unfortunately… and pretty far in to it), Runaways and X-Factor.
They all seem pretty good from what I read, so I'm going to try following them. Looking forwards to the Young Avengers/Runaways thing now, too.
-
I don't know…
Transmetropolitan > WatchmenTransmetropolitan is a great series but it kinda drags near the end.
-
I just finished Civil War #2
Holy SHIT.
! Peter unmasks himself!
Goddamn, that blew me away.
-
Yeah, heard about that…
Dunno whether I like the idea or not, but as long as it's handled well then I'm happy.
! Did it have anything on the trouble that Mary Jane and May would be in if everyone knows his identity? A couple scans of the scene were posted elsewhere a little while ago and that question got brought up quite a bit.
-
! Yeah, in earlier issues he was really concenred about the risk his loved ones would be in. But at the press conference, he said that he talked it over a great deal with his family (and it showed Aunt May and Mary Jane watching TV). Also, I'm pretty positive that Iron Man heavily pushed him into doing it.
-

Well, Joe Quesada has mentioned that he plans
! on making Spider-Man single again.
And I think that's a dumb idea. -
I'm inclined to agree with Mr. Shogun.
Another thing that I just remembered:
! In the last issue of New Avengers, when S.H.I.E.L.D. took Spider-Man into custody and interrogated him about House of M, not only did they take his mask off, but probed his mind as well. So S.H.I.E.L.D. already knows who he is, and they could try to track him down or even harm his family if he resists registration.
-
Pretty good second issue. My favorite thing
! I had been hoping that Nick Fury would be with the resistance. Nice to see that he's still moving behind the scenes.
-
Now I got to go and get Civil War #2. I'm really looking forward to it. I liked the second story in Civil War: Frontline more.
-
I just got Civil War#2. The scene where Iron Man said "I hope we're doing the right thing" really hit me. And it's good to see Nick Fury back in action.
! Spider-Man unmaksed; not matter how many times you hear about it, it's still surprising when you see it. Now I want to know how J.J. Jameson will treat Parker after this. I'm looking forward to an akward meeting between the two in a future issue.
I also got Front Line#1. Pretty good, but not as good as Civil War. I liked the last story. -
@Pass:
J.J. Johnson
J. Jonah Jameson.
-
Busts out in hysterical laughter
-
Picked up the latest New Avengers and wow.
! The conclusion of the "Collective" arc really shocked me. The sentient "collective" of mutant energies really being controlled by the Xorn bacteria, Magneto going crazy with the power and raising zombies and shit. When Magneto said "Do it. Kill me. I don't want to let this happen to me. Please.." while Sentry was fighting him…. damn.
! I'm really interested in two things:
! 1) What will happen to Michael (the first host of the Collective) now that he knows he's a mutant, and seems to have retained some super powers of his own.- What will happen with Magneto
! It looks like SHIELD is training Michael, so I hope that he'll become a potential new teammate for the Avengers. It'll be really interesting if the New Avengers get a brand new superhero as a team mate, I think.
! And Magneto... I really hope the encounter with Xorn borught his powers back. Judging from the chopper blowing up, I'd say it's likely. I'm wondering what direction he'll go in now, SHIELD seemed eager to put him behind bars for his past crimes. Man, seeing him so broken as he wrote his book was pretty heartbreaking. At any rate, I want to see Magneto track down his dumbass son and beat the shit out of him.Next issue comes out next week and starts the "New Avengers: Disassemble" arc, which chronicles each Avenger's take on the Civil War. It starts off with Captain America, can't wait
-
Loving Civil War. IMO they're taking bigger risks than DC with Infinity Crisis. I just hope that two years from now they don't have Dr.Strange or Scarlett Witch erase everybody's memory as a cop out for the storyline
I can't wait until the first face to face meeting with J. Jonah Jameson and Peter Parker.
On the issue of Civil War, whose side are you on? Both sides make compelling arguments.
-
As far as Pete's Identity is concerned. A lot of people on the other forums I inhabit have mentioned the fact that Loki owes Spidey for saving his daughter. Loki even offered him what ever he desired. Spidey pretty much just said "ehhh I think I will hold onto that for now". So it would be very possible for everyone to forget he is Spiderman.
-
I just heard that Iron Man has the greenlight for a movie with Paramount and Marvel Studios. Anybody else hear about this?
-
September solicitations are out and I thought I'd share this pic with anybody who cares to see it and doesn't mind some Civil War spoilerage.
Beat Down? The whole mess of covers and mini write-ups for Marvel's September offerings can be found here.
-
Yeah, I saw that cover on Marvel's site. Looks like Spidey might have to rethink this…
The thing I'm most excited about September is the New Awengers: Disassemble issue about The Sentry. I'm really interested to see whose side he'll be on (I've heard that he'll be pro-registration).
I'm also hyped up about the Cable and Deadpool; it was bound to happen. I want to see Cable get his teeth kicked in. New Punisher story, too... man. I'm excited.
Right now, another story that I'm almost as excited about Civil War is Planet Hulk. Man, that story is BADASS so far.
Hey, does anyone recommend Thunderbolts? Baron Zemo looks awesome, but I don't know if this series will be worth investing my time/money in, and I'm trying to save money for college this summer by only sticking to a few series.
Another comic I'm looking forward to (but not on this list) is an upcoming Wolverine... I think it's in August. He goes toe-to-toe with Namor. I'm not a huge fan of Wolverine; I mean, he's one of those characters I acknowledge as cool, and can see full well why he's so popular, but I never got into him; regardless, that's going to be an awesome fight.
A year agao I thought that I'd get into DC Comics before Marvel, but man, this summer Marvel is pulling out all the stops. I'm so glad I got back into comics.
Speaking of DC, what exactly happened in the Infinite Crisis? I know Superboy apparently died. But I'm afraid to touch anything from DC with the word "crisis" on it..
-
Yeah I read Infinite Crisis. I thought a lot of the build up to infinite Crisis was good. For example I loved Identity Crisis. It was human, and dealt with real emotions and real problems. The characters felt like real people to me and I could relate to them on some level. I loved what they did with Dr. Light.
Infinite Crisis was…..not really the same. I get the feeling if you are a hardcore fan on classic DC storyline and could pretty much recite the events of Crisis on infinite worlds, then you would love Infinite Crisis. I however am not a huge fan of it. Ultimately the story was forgetable and didn't have a lot of really great moments in it. And the whole thing was host to one of the worst retcons ever on a grand scale.
Hey, we killed off a shit load of characters and now we regret it....Okay how is this SuperBoy Prime is imprisoned in the speed force. Where he throws a superpowered tempertantrum and beats on the walls of heaven. Thus altering the timestream....so anyone we killed off and brought back can be explained by superboy prime. Why is the sky green? Superboy Prime. Why was Bush elected president a second time? Superboy Prime. Yeah it is pretty dumb.
-
@Cap'n:

Infinite Crisis wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. Identity Crisis, OMAC, and Villains United are much better storylines. I consider all three must-reads. After them the crisis itself was a letdown.
As for what happened… I can't explain it well. It's one of those jumbled multiple reality stories. Main continuity Earth isn't good enough and the refugees from the alternate Earth want to replace our Earth with something like the world they're from (or something like that). And things are messy in normal reality with a ton of supervillains attacking Metropolis. Superboy Prime goes insane, kills a bunch of heroes, kills Superboy, sets out to destroy the universe, kills a bunch of Green Lanterns (he faced nearly the ENTIRE GL Corps) and it takes two Superman's dragging him through Krypton's sun to destroy his suit and depower him enough to beat him down. Check the Wiki entry for better detail. Or not. It's just messy.
Everything I've read leading up to Infinite Crisis is pure gold (I skipped Rann Thanagar War). The crisis itself is barely good.
-
Hey, does anyone recommend Thunderbolts? Baron Zemo looks awesome, but I don't know if this series will be worth investing my time/money in, and I'm trying to save money for college this summer by only sticking to a few series.
I haven't been reading New Thunderbolts recently, but I thought the first few issues were pretty good. And I loved the old series (if you can find cheap back issues, maybe you should check some out).
As for DC…I also thought the stuff leading up to Infinite Crisis was great, but I didn't care for the big event itself. But I'm still a big DC fan, and I'm looking forward to all the new Batman comics.
I'd say to at least check out the trade paperback for Villains United. It was my personal favorite mini-series leading up to Infinite Crisis (although I liked the others too).
-
Villains united was freaking great, and I'm not even a big fan of DC.
-
I got the paperback of Villains United, and wow, it was pretty awesome. At first I was weary about it because the villains in it are pretty obscure and I didn't know any (except Deadshot), but in the end I ended up loving all of the characters. It's funny how the Society was pissed off that all of the "two-bits" refused to join.
I liked all of the characters. I was really impressed with what they did with Cat Man, he turned out to be awesome. I also liked how they made a new Ragdoll, who is really the son of the original; his buddying with Parademon was funny, too. I think overall my favorite character was Deadshot, he's a total badass. Especially in that last standoff with Deathstroke. I also like how apparently the Six decided to stay together as a mercenary squad.
Damn it, thanks to this i want to start buying more DC stuff. Marvel is already eating my cash… For now I'll stick to the Secret Six's series.
Also, reading this I remembered how incredibly lame the DC Rogue Gallery is. How can people give Mysterio guff when DC has villains like THE FIDDLER, WEATHER WIZARD, or DR. POLARISM (NOT MAGNETO)?
But now, I'm more interested in Thunderbolts, since I had similar worries about reading that (obscure villains).
Speaking of DC.... I did some reading, and I see what Monty was saying about how lame the crap with Superboy-Prime is. Jason Todd is alive again of some crap with SB-Prime screwing around. The hell! Bringing JASON TODD back from the dead is dumb as hell! I hope Joker beats him with a crowbar again.
-
I love it when writers make obscure villains cool. Most villains can be made cool if the writers would just give them some attention.
My personal favorite in Villains United was the new Ragdoll. I haven't read any of the new Secret Six thing yet. I did read the Villains United Special that came out awhile ago though.
I haven't been to the comic shop in a while actually.
-
@Cap'n:

Yeah see I agree the way they brought him back was Lame as well as lazy, however it made for some really great character moments between him and Batman. That part I loved. Oh and as far as Joker beating him with a crow bar again….not gonna happen. It is just a shame that an actually decent storyline was ruined with just such a lazy set up. I kind of wish they had just used him in Hush like they teased. At least there it was unexpected.
I kind of feel like they teased it in Hush and everyone was like "Oh my god, what a great idea. We have to do this now". Ugh.
-
I can see how Jason Todd coming back would give him some great moments with Batman, but I dunno, I don't like characters being brought back on a seeming whim, especially since Todd's death shook the comic book industry. That was a huge event. I also don't like how he went to same ol' "omg I wasn't avenged/mourned for all eternity, now I must go on the darkside and get REVENGE." However, I do like him taking up the Red Hood's mantle (for some reason)
As for Joker not beating him again, I know it won't happen, but I'm a huge Joker fan with dreams.
SPEAKING of the Joker, I thumbed through the last issue of Infinite Crisis, and the scene of him murdering Alexander was so, so sweet. Especially Luthor's line, "You made too many mistakes. Underestimating Superman. Superboy. Me. But worst of alll… you didn't let Joker play."
I also thumbed through Identity Crisis, and goddamn, that fight of Deathstroke kicking everyone's ass was AWESOME. That made me like, 100x gayer for Deathstroke than I already am. Definitely one of my favorite comic book villains. Jabbing Zatanna under the ribs, forcing her to vomit and be unable to speak (and thus unable to cast magic), shining a laser at a microscopic Atom, bombarding him with particles… awesome.
I can't believe how much dicks the JLA can be. I mean, I'd be pissed too if Dr. Light kept fucking around with my wife, but twisting his mind? That's fucked up. That's why I love Green Arrow; he's reasonable, and knows what's too far.
But, the main reason I was at the comic store was to get Secret Six #1, and it was awesome.
! Issue starts out, and there's only five of them (Cheshire defected/allegedly dead, Knockout took Parademon's spot). The Six decide to recruit Mad Hatter, because apparently the Society is still around, and Dr. Psycho is still obsessed with killing the Six, so they want Hatter to combat Psycho's mind powers. Catman, being familiar with Batman's adversaries, is wary of the idea, because of how instable and fucking crazy the Hatter is.
! I won't say much else, but the last page with the Mad Hatter saying he'll "throw his hat in" is pretty damn disturbing. He's nude, smoking a hookah, with a dertanged look on his face with all of these hats and teacups and shit stacked in the background.I really hope Chesire's dead… I'll be mad if that bitchs screws over the Six again. :(
