Er, what indication was there that Franky has a dream?
A boy taken in by Tom and raised by him. A boy who wants nothing more than to build awesome ships. Then suddenly everything goes wrong and the boy's own creations are turned against those he cares for. That sounds like dream-making material.
And lest we forget, he made a purchase for a certain reason as well.
If anyone has indicated any sight of dream it has been Franky but I dunno if he ever wants to build any powerful ship again though. The dream could be not ship related. Also Franky building GM2 alone seems just silly. For me Galley-la's more likely author, an appology for the situation Galley-la put Straw Hats and a thank you for them saving the city and the company and perhaps even the world. Why else the company would have been originally introduced, Oda put whole lot of deal on it.
I agree that Franky seems like more of the dreamer out of the two so far.
Y'know, I'd hate to see someone disappointed that the one they wanted didn't join…
If there is a 'Franky dream' in the making, obviously Tom would be a huge influcence on that dream. Already we know that Franky aspires to build a great ship(s), be it pirate, marine or other.
We also know that he admires Tom for building that "great pirate ship" (Oro Jackson) the ship that carried the Pirate King around the Grandline, he also asks Tom to teach him the blueprint of a pirate ship.
We've already seen how determined he was with building a vessel that could defeat a sea king, which he did with 'Battle Franky no.35'. So if I had to guess what Franky's dream is, it would probably be to build the ship that conquers the Grandline & its crew finds One Piece.
Good reasoning but whatever it is I just hope it won't be named Battle Franky (nothing against your name dude) but something more cuter, like Pluton-chan :P.

Well if the Going Merry can be named after a fairly insignificant character, then I'd say if Franky does build the next ship & doesn't join. I could definitely see it being named the Battle Franky or something similar, or… they could just continue on the Going Merry name with the next ship.

If Franky has a dream, it involves whatever it is he's been working on/trying to buy with Franky Family over the past three years.

Hmmm I say they have to keep the name Merry somehow since that is the ship's name since we heard Usopp called the ship by that name many time.
I think they will keep it as Going Merry
But if it's a new ship, I think they ought to start anew. No use attaching the old Merry (literally or figuratively) to a new ship.

merry cant be part of the name since that was the name of the servant who built it. if iceburg builds it with franky it will be called something like bakaburg and bakanky

Well they didn't conduct an inquiry on Tom until after Gold Roger was executed… So if Luffy became Pirate King, the government would have their hands full trying to capture him rather than going back over his path to reach the top. Now if they did execute him and the same people were in charge of the marines, they may be in danger, but Cutty Flam is officially dead. Iceburg, Kokoro and the CP9 are the only ones that know the truth about him, so that may be a factor in him being able to elude capture.
That is, if CP9 doesn't get back to HQ to make their report. ;)
I just got a good idea, maybe Franky would like to join just because of the fact that Tom was on Roger's team. I think this is like a follow in the other's footsteps situation because that's how everyone's past was, there was always someone who inspired them in some way in this case Tom inspired Franky to make ships, that or it's about carrying someone's will into a new generation.

I think that's the problem though. Franky's a little TOO colorful. It's usually not a good idea to outshine the main character, and Franky would be doing that way too often. I think the general rule is you're not allowed to overshadow Luffy on a daily basis.
It's definitely not as easy to pick out who's gonna be the new crewmember here. There are SO many colorful characters in Water Seven, it's not like the Baratie where Sanji was one black suit among a sea of white uniforms.

Remember this guy is viewed as a no good, hoodlum punk & he kind of just blew the crap out of Dock 1. So I don't really see him taking over, if Iceburg croaks. I'd think Paulie would be more likely to be entrusted with that position, we've already seen how much Iceburg trusts Paulie & we know how much respect & admiration Paulie has for Ice-san.
Plus Paulie is also deeply respected & revered by his fellow shipwrights & is sort of a celebrity amongst the people._

oi remember Bon Clay, now there is one of the "most" colorful character I have seen >_> (and highly original), however he "had" the capability of joining, however he did not. (However he had a "less" chance of joining in result of his attack being nearly identical to Sanji which would be…too repetetive)
LIKEWISE, if you say, "Franky has a flashback, and that is justifiable," i would say wrong as well, for currently Franky has the same percentage (or slightly higher) joining rate of Waipa (he had a flashback and a "slight" dream)

I just had a thought..
Franky was introduced as a very colorful villain (SUPER~!), has minor redeeming qualities, a flashback, and what I supposed you could call a dream: To build great ships and pick fights with seamonsters. (Although I'm not so sure thats still the case.)
Buggy was introduced as a very colorful villain (FLASHY~!), has minor redeeming qualities, a flashback, and what I suppose you could call a dream: To seek the world's riches and take them as his own. (I think thats what he said his dream was…)
Of course Franky has more redeeming qualities and a much more vivid past than Buggy, but they're still kind of similar on the surface. Buggy would never join the Strawhats because I can't imagine him following anyone, much less Luffy...I kind of feel the same about Franky, at this point its hard to imagine him as Luffy's subordinate. I think he'll build the ship, but remain in Water 7.
Until we get out of the flashback situation I don't believe that we'll know what will happen next.
Yeah, I agree with you there, which is why I hope this flashback ends soon. Hopefully they'll end the flashback at the climax (Tom's execution and Franky's "death") then explain the rest in the present, while we catch up on the rest of whats going on. >_<
I just can't help but be amazed by the transformation Oda has applied to Franky's character in this arc. Just look at the complete turn around he has had since he was first introduced.
Just think about how you felt reading chapter 229 through to 333, and how much hatred & disgust you had for this guy. At that point I was thinking "right, we definitely have this arcs Crocodile or Eneru", this guy & his cronies had caused a major rift within' the Strawhats, turned nakama against each other and at that point I thought, there'd be no way this guy couldn't be anything but! a sinister, twisted bastard who is absolutely unredeemable.
But look a further 20 or so chapters ahead & I think the world of this guy, he's really quite unique & has a very intriguing past to him, not to mention a very human side also. So whether he joins or not, it doesn't really matter guessing at this point… as Oda will decide this & no one else. But I just can't shake the feeling about this guy, he's someone who feels somewhat integral to the continuation of the Strawhats journey be it that he becomes apart of the crew or he helps build their new ship, I just feel this character won't simply slip into obscurity & fade away when the crew leaves W7, he'll remain on, in some form.
I bet that the next issue will end the flashback.
Oh, I'd say it may go on for at least two or three more chapters, depending on how fast Oda deals with Tom's situation. It could be more if Oda decides to get Franky's death & resurrection/construction out of the way in the same flashback.

I was like the sole voice of Franky back then :P. ~Keh, I still don't get why people want Pauly to join, he's an okey character but… Franky would actually add a flavour to the crew and Oda has put a lot of effort into his design and personality, an unique character you would expect from Oda the man of imagination. Besides Franky's a swimmer and a musician, an outcast with a tragical past like all others on the board.
Wiper didn't have any actual flashback though, just small peeps into past (Aisa would been better). And Bon-chan wouldn't had any purpose in the crew, he has the same fighting style than Sanj and no job position.
Man, the same old worn-out conversation again. I just want a new chapter, I hope the flashback won't end yet.
I kinda hate flashbacks. Especially when there is so much going on. I wish Oda would wait till everything is resolved and the crew is about to leave when he does them.
Flashback after everything is over's a bit silly, what would be the point of it and would you actually like it if instead of moving over to brand new story there would be a long flashback? Anyway, often flashbacks are the best written, designed and told sequences of shounen series. A lot of character development, emotions and drama and no annoying stretched out action scenes, in the whole story flows smoothly (14 years in what ? three chapters!). And it's a quality break from the present story and a chance for Oda to do something fresh and different. Think about, there got to be a good reason why vast amount of anime music videos are using flashback material and there are some loved cartoons which are solely based on flashbacks (Berserk, Samurai X). How come your are hating them! Shortly, flashbacks are the best :lol:.
Yeah, I feel that way too. Let's enjoy this flashback because after that, it's gonna be fight fight fight. Funny fights are great in OP, but serious ones are kind of boring. Unfortunately, since the mood of this arc is rather dark, we're only gonna have serious 1v1. I can't imagine a funny Lucci v Luffy or Kaku v Zoro. I hope it won't be more than 4 chapters per fight. Just thinking about 16 weeks of only action chapters <_< me…
I only want to know who's gonna join the Straw Hats, what their next boat will be, what's the Ohara thing, and how will the next land be like (will it be red line or another island?).
I feel the same way. But you know, there are always some funny fights mixed in. Like the chopper vs. Gadetsu fight in skypia, or Zorro fighting the priests dog.
I think Blueno against anybody will be a funny fight and too serious. But the CP9 Guys look not only tough, but also very smart. Exept Blueno, that's maybe the reason he works in the bar and not directly under Iceburg.
I really want to have this weeks chapter…
