FThe plot follows the exact same arc verbatim. Just "lol he's a doctor and the car is a NASCAR driver, that makes it different" argument doesn't work.
I just expect more originality out of Pixar. The only other movie of theirs that even comes close to another films plot (a Bugs Life, Three Amigos) at least changed up the plot drastically (in a Bugs Life, the colony learns that they're performers long before they confront the bad guy) so the plot follows a different ultimate path. Not so with Cars, every single plot point is hit the same.
And lol at "THIS movie has Monsters, so Monsters Inc rip off!".
Can you remove all the proper nouns from the description of that movie and it still reads the same as Monsters Inc?
Minor similarities =/= point for point the EXACT same plot. -

So I saw Cars 2 at midnight, and I must say that I find it better than the first. Sure, it's no Toy Story or Up, but it's fun. The original, to me, felt really slow and had extremely unlikable characters. And while the characters haven't changed, more characters share the spotlight, and this time around only Mater truly bugged me (McQueen in the first film is just too arrogant for me to like). Seriously, Mater must extremely popular with the children as he is the worst character that Pixar has created (and his screen time has increased tremendously in this film) in my opinion. Hopefully Michael Caine's car returns if they do a third one (which they probably will).
So if you like Cars, or Pixar in general, I would see this movie. It is not as bad as the reviewers say.

Do Larry the Cable Guy fans even like Mater?

I dunno, but I do know that I found Mater to be the one case of Larry the Cable Guy that I didn't find horribly annoying. Not the best character, but at least he he was more "silly village idiot" than "crass redneck." Pixar magic.

Yeah, but Rotten Tomatoes is an either/or sort of thing. Its either good or its bad. They don't have anything for neutral or "I enjoyed it, but it wasn't fantastic."
Its Pixar's reputation thats against it more than anything else probably, people have (for some reason) been dying for them to have a flop for a long time now. Something about being perpetually happy, fun, artistic and successful all the time year in and year out rubs people the wrong way.
I'll find out tomorrow. (I hope.)

Coming home from the theater….
Man, dunno if was the lack of espectations, but I really liked the movie. My girlfriend was laughing the whole movie and all the children in the theater were quiet, all of them really invested in the movie. -
See what happens when we stop talking about cool stuff like action figures

Review beyond the spoilers:
! Just saw it and…well, it's somewhat mixed for me. Obviously it was not better than the first Cars movie and there was some stuff that felt rather trite or didn't really feel like a good presentation compared to a lot of their movies. (mostly McQueen's whole "should I bring Mater with me" thing where he regrets bringing him with and ultimately learns his lesson and all that...and some of the jokes Mater was given) On the other hand, I really did love most of the spy plot and the whole homage/parody to the James Bond franchise, particularly Finn McMissle and a lot of the weird battles and such. And while I didn't really think some of the whole reason was strong enough behind why the "evil cars" were doing their thing (the Pacer and the Gremlin were just notable and popular due to the whole oil crisis in the 70s; when oil became "cheap" again, people stopped buying them, so it was tough for me to see them as lemons), I did like the idea of them trying to take revenge on society...even if it was obvious from early on it was the crazy entrepreneur behind it all. Likewise, I loved a lot of the visuals and seeing other countries in perspective of this world and I was laughing when I saw some of the notable aspects of Japan (the vending machines for everything for one) in the movie...though it was weird seeing Gusteau's in the Paris scene. (somehow now I just imagine a cameo by Colette's scooter that they could have done)
Sadly the theater I saw it at didn't have the "Brave" trailer, getting the "Winnie the Pooh" and "Muppets" trailers for Disney. (and while I liked the Muppet trailer, seeing Scooter lip-synching "We Built This City" was weird) Guess I'm waiting until Monday for my "Brave" teaser.

Welp, I saw it (and mine had the Brave trailer as well as Winnie the Pooh and Muppets).
IT WAS FINE. No, it's not great, if I were to put it in my rankings I'd put it somewhere around A Bug's Life, below the original Cars (I think we lost the heart without Doc Hudson).
Spoiler review:
! The most important thing you can ask in a movie is, "Was I bored?" Not for one second in this movie was I bored. In fact, one of my qualms is that the pacing was a smidgen too fast. Sometimes I wished they'd have a quiet scene just to develop something rather than another action scene. But as a spy movie, this worked great. Finn McMissile is a great character, with awesome awesome action scenes.
! One thing this movie does need is MORE FRANCESCO. OMG, what an awesome, entertaining character. John Tuturro did a great job, and I really wished he had been involved in more of the plot. Sometimes I wished we would veer away from the spy stuff and focus on the race more, since all the race cars seemed like fun characters. This was the kind of racing that I prefer, too, not around and around in a circle, but twists and turns over different kinds of terrain.
! The "be true to your friends" message is a little wimpy, especially for Pixar, but Lassetter said this is a spy movie, and he's right. It's a full-fledged spy movie. With some surprising dark moments. My jaw dropped when the American spy got killed (in a horrible fashion!). And I wish that all the Lemon cars had learned their lesson, it just seemed like they were beaten like generic bad guys, when they had a genuine sympathy. Poor lemons.
! Mater can grate on your nerves a bit, but I think that was the point. But I can't hate him. Only Pixar can make a lovable Larry the Cable Guy character. So yes, this is a lower-tier Pixar movie, maybe bottom tier. But even a lower-tier Pixar movie is still way better than 80% of the crap that's out there.

Saw Cars 2. OUR THEATER DIDN'T HAVE THE BRAVE TRAILER, BASTARDS.
Movie is about what we all expect at this point. Light and fluffy and pure comedy. Not a lot in the way of heart, but all the spy stuff is great, (Bruce Campbell needed more screentime.) and the action bits were all well done. The visuals of the scenery were AMAZING, all the locales looked fantastic, (Japan especially) and if it had just been a camera showcasing vistas for two hours I would have been happy with that.
Its not quite as insane high octane as some of the Nater short stories.. but its about what you get out of it.
It was exactly what it tried to be, a kids spy thriller action movie. If you go in to have fun, you probably will. And for once, a Pixar film WON'T make you cry. So yeah, its lower tier Pixar, but its still Pixar. Visuals alone are worth while.
