It was a 3DS nintendo direct. We knew that beforehand. So of course a wii/wii u game wouldn't be mentioned

STILL no word or announcements whatsoever on any localization of the current Dragon Quest games that have been doing so well in Japan. In hindsight, I'm not sure why I was expecting anything.
X for Wii and Wii U? Well I get the Nintendo Official Magazine each month and they've been acting as if it's still coming, even saying Nintendo is publishing it again (considering the push Nintendo gave IX I would be very surprised if they dropped it.)
-
No, I'm mainly concerned about DQ Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D, which is very much a 3DS game. I have very fond memories of playing Dragon Warrior Monsters on my GBC as a kid, and I've been aching for this remake since the day it was announced. I'm only half joking when I say I'd sell (my own…?) body parts to afford it on day one when Nintendo localizes it.
But heck, I do plan to own a Wii U someday, and DQX would certainly also be worth my money when I do.
What we need is an "Operation Slimefall" of some sort to campaign for continued Western localization of the ever-amazing Dragon Quest series as a whole. Similar efforts are why I have Xenoblade Chronicles sitting on my shelf right now. Nintendo's shown they will listen if people make enough noise about something.

Mother 3 says "Whaaaat", along with any campaign for Earthbound rereleases.
Kidding. I know there's a handful of other issues regarding that, plus there's the fan translation of M3 online that's said to be pretty darn accurate.
-
Yeah, the Mother/Earthbound games have other issues. Dragon Quest, on the other hand, has been a major and somewhat popular series in both the East and West, and Nintendo of America has published the last few games themselves. But suddenly, there's not even any mention of these two latest BIG ones. You'd think a big-name MMO and a shiny new remake of a classic would deserve not just release, but even fanfare, but…
I used to think Nintendo LIKES money. Recently though, I'm not so sure.

Charizard 3DS XL
seems strange to release something like this without a new pokemon to go with it.
-
Got to play Rayman Legends on the WiiU yesterday. Generally, I'd say the graphics both on screen and on the gamepad are very crisp and pretty, and the gameplay wasn't bad … BUT, there's still a little something that keeps me unimpressed.
I was also a bit surprised by how unintuitive controlling things with the gamepad feels. It's just weird having this huge thing in your hands and having to decide constantly which screen to look at. It's a problem I wondered about when the DS was announced, but that ended being a non-issue.
-

Well given that Black & White 2 came out two weeks ago along with the Dream Radar they kind of don't need to put it out with a new one.

an interview with Iwata from Nintendo's investor meeting has been released that sheds some cool insight into Nintendo's way of business http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/121025qa/index.html
Got to respect Iwata turning down the concept of paid DLC in animal crossing even though AC is a series that seems perfect for making tons of money off of DLC -
I think that right now in avery aspect the Wii U is a waste of money.I mean think about it.Only like, what 5-6 Nintendo exclusive titles are announced and all the other games are 3rd party developers-games that I can play on my 360/PC.After some mature thought I cancelled my pre-order.I am not gonna spend 380 euros(400$) on a console with like 3 exculusive games.Maybe next year when some decent titles come out like a new Zelda game,a new Mario Galaxy and/or a Pokemon game then without a doubt I'll get one.

Lego City UndercoverAlso Smash Bros, Monster hunter 3 ultimate (although its technically also going to be available on 3ds). And we know games like Zelda, 3d mario, and metroid will come. Also Miyamoto's unknown new ip will be for wii u. Plus a few casual games like sing and wii fit u, though I doubt those interest anyone here. And even the third party games will come with a bunch of dlc on the disk, which gives them an advantage over the other versions if you didn't already pick them up. Although Scribblenauts is on 3ds and pc as well (though only wii U version will feature nintendo characters)
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also should be noted that with the exception of Bayonetta, DQ X, and Smash Brothers of the announced games (so discounting ones that will probably be on the system and ones that where we just know a team or person is working on something, but no real details on what), all of these games are coming by March of next year. That's an utterly fantastic launch window lineup

No, as I said, the only really announced games that aren't launch window are Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2, and DQX. There are a few that we know teams are working on them and thats it as well that will probably miss launch window like the miyamoto game and monolith soft game, but all of the rest are launch window

I don't think buying the Wii-U at launch is a smart decision. Give it time.
-
I don't think buying the Wii-U at launch is a smart decision. Give it time.
I'd say it depends on what you can afford and how interested you are in launch window games. I feel like it's never fair to say that sort of decision is universally good or bad. For example, I personally can afford it without too much trouble and have several launch window games I'm interested in. It actually has a pretty amazing launch lineup (not to mention launch window) compared to pretty much any other console launch ever
-
It depends on how you interpret it.
On the one hand if lightning strikes twice and the Wii U launch is anywhere close to what the Wii launch was like, buying one at launch may be a good idea since it could be awhile before you could get another chance. Of course that is assuming that they will be very scarce after launch mind you.
I like getting these things early and I love going to midnight releases in general, even if it's just a friend buying the game and not me.
-
I wouldn't call it an amazing launch line-up. Reminds me when people were defending the launch line-up of the 3DS and arguing about launch windows and crap, but in the end, it's just a smarter buy to go for it down the line.
That's the way I see it. Buying a Wii U now with no doubt good games it's like buying a 3DS with it's launch line-up. Instead, I waited and bought my 3DS when I was able to get Mario Kart 7 and later on Kid Icarus and had a ball with it. In the same way, I'd rather wait for the Wii U to have stuff like Pikmin 3 or whatever else is coming down the line instead of worrying about spending over $300 right now and convincing myself it's a good deal. Believe me, given Nintendo's past, in the future there's bound to be bundle packs that will make the Wii U a more reasonable buy than it is now.
The only thing that gives me more faith in Wii U than I had for the 3DS launch is that now we have Super Mario Bros. U instead of Pilotwings and Steel Diver and Nintendogs. However, I'm unsure of how the public will react to that title and to Zombii u

It's a far better initial launch lineup than any other console, except maybe PS Vita, has gotten, except unlike vita it isn't launch games and then nothing for almost a year
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I'd also add that Launch Window DOES matter a lot as well when considering how good a launch is because most people won't need to buy 4 games directly at launch. I'd say most people will start off with 1 or 2 games and then buy more as they have time, so as long as launch window games are spaced out well you can get the ones you want as they come out. Of course this all depends on your financial situation and your patience, but its not much difference. THe problem the 3DS had was a lack of great launch titles and then a long wait for better games
-
The Game Boy was released with a launch line-up called Tetris and it was a huge success. It's not about how huge the line-up or seemingly diverse it is, it's about the actual selling power of the software.
-
I bought my 3DS on launch and the launch titles for the Wii U are so, so much better. At least better by nature of having a lot more content with stuff like New Super Mario Bros U, Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing Transformed, Scribblenauts, Nintendo Land, etc while the 3DS launch had like Pilotwings, Super Street Fighter 4, and Star Fox 64. Not a huge line up nor one that really got any of the people I know out there buying a 3DS right away.
And even then the most time I've spent on my 3DS has been with the Streetpass Plaza and Pokemon since there's barely been any games I've been interested in that have come out on the 3DS since (though the not so distant future is looking promising by nature of Monster Hunter 4).

1 game is still a shitty launch lineup even if that game is great. From the company's perspective it's a huge success, but I'm talking about a consumer perspective. You also have to consider that people's expectations have risen a LOT since the gameboy era.
-
I'm also talking from a consumer perspective … When a consumer has two options of really good games chances are it will be easier and more satisfying than if said consumer was to choose from a million different varieties. Sounds non-sensical, but there is a psychological principle behind it. People's expectations haven't changed, for the most part they still need to be pointed in the direction of that one good game to get.
And that's something that makes Nintendo a behemoth in the market. People know that if they buy that one Zelda game, or that one Mario game, or that one Metroid game, they can't go wrong. And these are games that only Nintendo has, just like only XBox has Halo and only PS3 has … something. There's hundreds of other titles on the market, but no one outside of the hardcore gamers like us will bother digging through all of it to find some awesome hidden gem. It's why stuff like Zack and Wiki goes ignored, because it's the sort of title you see on a shelf and it will look the same as millions of other titles, and only if you know of games will you pick it up and know it is a good game.
This launch has a lot of titles indeed, but what, to me, defines whether it will be a solid launch or not is whether the masses look at NSMBU or Nintendoland and think "hey, I want to play that", and proceed to buy the console. -

ANd the times are different, especially if you're talking about the Gameboy. The Gameboy was pretty much the first modern handheld gaming console which would immediately make it attractive to people who had never had something like that before. Furthermore, the Gameboy's continued success was due to a clear hardware edge over the competition, since while it was graphically inferior to other handhelds like the gamegear which used color and backlit screens, it was half the price and had vastly better battery life in a time before good rechargeable batteries had been developed

Eh. I didn't know about PC. Everywhere I turn people talking about the exclusive stuff for it on the Wii U.
And I suppose its each to their own for launch opinions whether they're good or not. Personally I thought the Vita had a dreadful launch lineup. (and only now is starting to get games. Around the same time the 3DS did.)

No it does. The wii u version also has the object creator

-
Perhaps sharing through the Steam Workshop is what I was thinking of. I knew that the game was going to have an object creator. I was more talking about sharing created objects between people. Haven't heard anything about that on the WiiU version but I suppose it might be there.
-
Nintendo's having a miiverse nintendo direct tomorrow at 7am EST in Japan. No word on whether NA or Europe will get one as well though, but I think its pretty likely
-
Think there's any hope of "3DS owners, you can download the Miiverse app for free from the Nintendo eShop RIGHT NOW" happening along with it…?
-
considering it won't be available on wii U till november 15th i doubt it (this is for reviewers who already have it. Apparently they can't access online features atm)
Also i havn't seen this anywhere else but Nintendo Power has announced a new shantae game for the 3ds eshop
'Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse will be launching on the eShop in 2013 and will center around Shantae and Risky teaming up to stop the Tinkerbats from reviving the evil Pirate Master. The game will have 3D effects similar to those of Mighty Switch Force and will feature music from Jake Kaufman who’s previously worked on the other Shantae games.'

I'm so jealous America is getting the Wii U next week. We gotta wait till the end of the month and some suppliers are saying they can't confirm whether people are gonna get it on launch or not.
-
It's confirmed that instead of friend codes, Wii U will use a nintendo network id, which is basically an online username (as in, not a string of random letters and numbers, but a username you make for yourself). Also you can use nintendo network id to access certain content on non-nintendo devices like smartphones and computers
-
I really, REALLY hope they bring that same username-based "Nintendo Network" and Miiverse functionality to the 3DS. I'm sure they'd be able to integrate it all with a system update.
-
Here's nintendo of america's nintendo direct. It doesn't talk about everything the japanese one did though http://gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=189848
Watching Iwata video chat with Reggie is way more hilarious than it should be -
So the world map has been revealed for Mario
! Acorn Plains
Layer-Cake Desert
Sparkling Lagoon
Frosted Glacier
Soda Jungle
Maringue Clouds
Rock-Candy Plaza
Peach's Castle
! Interesting that there doesnt look to be any Lava levels. Usually a staple lol. I'm assuming that will be the final one for Bowser's Castle. -
New Puzzle:
Kirby Adventure Wii (some people are reporting an Animal Crossing one but it seems it might be Japan only)
Kinda disappointed, we are WAY overdue a Skyward Sword one. And Pokemon aint got one either. Would like a Xenoblade one. No doubt Paper Mario, Nintendoland and Super Mario Bros U will be coming soon.
-
I just wished there'd be an update that you can trade puzzle parts with friends.
They keep sending new puzzles via SpotPass but I barely manage to finish the others I already have :/ -
damn it nintendo i only had 3 blue piece to go (1 for kirby 20th and 2 for NSMB2). Also i mangaed to finish the mario kart 7 puzzle purple pieces and all today so that's something. I'm surprised we got another kirby one. i figured this close to launch they'd have done a nintendoland one or something. Still hoping for fire emblem and pokemon based ones and if japan did get animal crossing instead then that when we get closer to it's launch
-
Yeah the Kirby one really threw me for a loop. Especially considering said game was released last year and not quite as memorable as Skyward Sword or Xenoblade was…
-
So we get yet another Kirby puzzle swap thing? Weird.
-
How do people complete these puzzles so quickly? Takes me forever and then more keep on being added. Doesn't help either that coins keep giving me pieces I already have.
Although that one time I went to the legend of zelda concert I did manage to finish at least three puzzles and get all purple pieces I needed. There need to be more nintendo-centric events in the south …
-
I don't bother with puzzles anymore since my original 3ds broke due to water damage. I had quite a few puzzles completed on it though. Being at college and having a roommate with a 3ds does help you get passes
-
I have 3 friends who have 3DS's and I live on campus at my college. It's pretty easy for me to complete the puzzles.
-

I don't I stopped trying to complete them after the second day I had my 3DS, I can't get any streepasses so I just stopped it completelly.
-
I use to get them at my college but now a guy at work has his 3ds and so i get it there
-
I rarely get any. Sometimes when I go into the City I get one or two, or depending on who is working at CEX on that day up to 5. Amusingly, I went to Edinburgh a few weeks ago, hit all of the top gaming places and got one person. In a capital city… and he didn't have any I needed... felt sad.
