@kouch_lee:
Yes, please. Back to Berserk: can someone explain or point to a post where the whole "Od/Idea plane/Astral plane/Idea plane" thing is deeply explored?
Od I guess is just the spiritual energy of a thing. Their ki/chi in the simplest sense. If it were Dragonball they'd be using it to judge power levels lol.
The planes are deceptively simple.
Basically…
-Physical World
-Spiritual World
-Conceptual World
The last one is the only one that's really hard to describe.
It's almost like the levels of Berserk are like further and further departures from the real world.
If they had pictures of them uh....
1. The Physical World would be a stark realistic painting.
2. The Spiritual World would be an expressionist painting. Like...a Van Gogh picture would capture the basic level of this, like the Spirit Tree. And the really deep levels (like where the Eclipse took place) would be like Picasso cubist paintings.
3. The Ideal world would be like...a Pollock painting.
If you don't actually know these artists, just google image them. That's a pretty weird way to describe them I admit, but visual learning helps me so hopefully it'll help you.
I don't think we're supposed to be able to even see the Ideal world, like it can't really be visualized. By that point there's nothing to visualize. Though I think the Lost Chapter takes place there, maybe one of the reasons Miura removed it was the fact that he kinda fucked with it's mystique by trying to depict it.
And while where at it, the whole concept behind the Idea of Evil // God Hand. I don't want to start any discusion again on Berserk when my memories of it are blurry at best (and re-read all of it right now is a bit of a stretch, although I may very well do it. The ride is worth it, that's for sure).
I don't think we're supposed to know all the details of the Idea yet. The Lost Chapter was yanked after all, and I hardly think it would be up to date with Miura's current vision of the Idea.
I think "god", or Idea, or whatever. Is supposed to be basically all the passions of the people of the world. And because of how much misery there is, it's a negative thing. Or not. And all the passions together is a powerful thing.
If like dying, sends your spirit all the way from the physical world into the Ideal world. Some things get sent back the other way. Behelits for instance I'm fairly certain are a case of this.
This is simply an unanswered question.
And when we're done with Berserk, a long discusion about Akira would be great. I know it earned me some very well deserved mockery around here during my first forum days, but I can't understand some of the event taking place in the manga. They feel to me like. . .random?? Again, years since I read it.
I don't remember anyone mocking Akira, they would have gotten beat up I assure you.
Unless you mean the movie because who cares about the movie.

@Kylor:
Most of Gut's friends in Berserk still irritate me.
How am I reading it wrong?
I think people who get uncomfortable with the new crew are people who are confused to the actual character of the manga. It's a very very very easy trap to fall into assumption that the default Berserk and Gutts are The Black Swordsman. But this is really absolutely not the case.

@D_Citi:
I understand griffith's mercenary group is great though I imagine there were better canidates for god hand.
Who could be better? Griffith was almost perfect before he had so much as a drop of magic in him. If they needed someone to become the anti-christ, they could hardly do better than an incredibly charismatic charming knight in shining armor with great military ability.
The merc group was incidental. Just a sacrifice for their leader ultimately (save for Gutts and Casca obviously, and Rickert too I guess).
If you call it fate than I understand, but I would still like to see something stronger, which isn't that much to ask.
UH
You REALLLY missed a huge and creepy part of Berserk if you are saying I was the one calling it fate.
Seriously, how have you missed the central role of fate in this series.
It's like missing that comradery is a big part of One Piece.
I'm use to my expecttion being passed when I read manga. If all the european mythology is real,
It's not really about Europe. They're in Europe so that's what we presently see.
Notice that they mention that the tree Ganishka's corpse turns into resembles the holy trees in all the world's mythologies. Tree of Knowledge, Bhodi Tree etc.
Plus Kushan monsters have been seen.
You don't really think, with a world full of cultures that are full of wild amazing creatures and visuals, that a guy who loves drawing fantasy things would turn that down? He clearly had fun drawing the Kushan and their designs.
withches in pointy hats and faires than I believe there is still much more to come. It excited me when they started sailing but I was disappointed with the pirates, though the merrow's I think they call them were pretty interesting.
Yeah actually the pirates are getting repetitive. I'll give you that for sure.
Nothing could put this at the top for me anymore but if they bring Caska back and actually join a world power than i'll enjoy it alot more. What happened to the new chapter to. haven't read it in like months.
Caska is coming back, it's almost a given. The length of time he's denied us her will make it all the more amazing.
We all miss her, it all hurts us. There will be so much amazing material from that event, the way she'll react to returning to her senses….her interactions in the new Gutts crew....and of course....Gutts, so reserved and depressed as he's been since holding back the beast....well...to see him just crack open backwards with open emotion that isn't anger for the first time since like...Book 11...will be amazing.
Some of the best man tears ever are in the forecast.
