I have now finished the 5th volumne..
I have to say after the big fight the series seems to go downhill and i rly hope thats just the pace of the moment.
The beginning had this gloomy atmosphere and i rly loved his inner conflicts and thoughts.
Hope that won`t be reduced even more then right now^^

Hope that won`t be reduced even more then right now^^You really don't have to worry about that, Kurowasa is going to have a lot of these moments. He is is always haunted by his fear of the future, about what real happiness means , what It means to be a man and how he should live his miserable life. He gains respect and fear from people around him, buf which will lead him just into more trouble.
Another reason why I love this manga. It doesn't matter what he does, he's still trapped in his own misery, getting drunk and making dumb decisions. I don't know why, but there is just something really interesting and entertaining about a 44-year old man in his midlife crisis. I would love to see the authors other works being translated. I don't really understand the rules of mahjong, but that didn't stop me to enjoy the legend of koizumi. -
I.. am out of words… this was so awesome, damn it I am crying because of this last volume.
9/10... Kurosawa was a masterpiece that everyone can relate to...last volume was brilliant and tragic at same time...

Shit. . .So true. . .what the hell!
! Don't die, Kurosawa! You're too fucking awesome to die!
This was so fucking touching. -

I'd be happy to help convert someone to the awesome of Fukumoto.
Right now Fukumoto works other than Kurosawa include
Ten
Fukumoto's first work. Pretty dry and without the sweet Jesus drama but that's to be expected as Fukumoto had yet to find his style. It's fun if you understand Mahjong and the arc finale is pretty much the Akagi show and people coming to terms with his
! suicide, trying to talk him out of it as well as a bunch of philosophical questions related to death
Akagi
Prequel to Ten and far far better. Akagi's a certified badass and watching him take on the monsters of the world never gets old. Anime was very good spanning 26 episodes. Unfortunately it ended JUST before the final two rounds of a 6 round battle and apparently the final two rounds make the fantastic first four rounds look like shit which is something. Manga scanlations is even worse covering like haalf of what the anime covered plus three random chapters of stuff the anime didnt do.Kaiji
Much more emotional with a wimpy lead who you can really relate to. There are four parts and the anime (just as good as Akagi's) covered part one. A sequel should be in the works that will cover part two and hopefully part three. Part two is fully scanlated (though not part one). There's no mahjong except a variation of it in part three. Instead there are simple to understand games like rock paper scissors and dice games that are so badass and incredible with the deep psychology that goes with them that you wouldn't believe.Gin to Kin
Never read it but heard it's about the relationship of gangsters chock full of social commentary and underworld politics. Only 6 chapters scanlated. No anime.Buraden Gai
Never read it but I hear it's about a street punk framed with murder and his exploits in order to clear his name. No anime but fully scanlated.Zero part 1
Never read it but I heard it's pretty good with a badass taking on some evil corporation. No anime but Part one completely scanlated. There's no part two yet as Fukumoto is going back to work on Akagi and KaijiAnd that's it other than some random small collaborations here and there.
Sigh why is it that his more famous works and the ones I really want to read that aren't scanlated:( I'd kill to read those final two han-chan sessions of Akagi:/
Oh and btw his works are all pretty much on the same league except Ten. Kurosawa came out 2003-2006 when Fukumoto had been a mangaka since 1989 so it's safe to say Fukumoto hasn't lost his touch yet. Indeed the finale of Ten was very good seeing as he wrote it in 2002 when Fukumoto had long since mastered his style.

10 out of fucking 10
Absolute masterpiece
Fukumoto is perhaps the greatest manga writer of all time; he makes Oda seem like Kishimoto
-
R.I.P. Kurosawa
you beautiful beautiful manthat scene with the ants… just god damn...
-
also Buraiden Gai is great
-
That was such a great manga. The ants! The ants!
-
He died? Man… well, he died a manly death.
-
the second I saw the cover of the final volume I knew he was going to die
son of a bitch
that part where he thought "I don't want to die… I don't want to die..." was really depressing
-
That's one of the best page in manga's history.
!
One of the most awesome manga I've ever read. And Kurosawa might be my favorite protagonist.
-
Guys spoilers>.> Oh fuck, now I'm going to go into this manga knowing he's gonna die…
Oh well. Fukumoto's epic drama is good enough to still make that final scene epicly tragic.
@Bucephalus I never pegged you for such a huge Fukumoto fan. Have you read his other works other than Gai? How about Zero? Or maybe the Akagi anime or Kaiji anime?
Oh and here's a nice poster guys
-
Yeah, you guys really should spoiler tag that stuff.
-
I concur with the spoiler tags and not arguing against it, but…
What are you people doing not reading the final volume?!
-
For People who have read the final chapter
! Interview with Fukumoto confirms Kurosawa is not dead,

! Great news, Kurosawa does deserve to live after all the hell he has gone through..

A-whah!? That's surprising. Hasn't he suffered enough!?
! I could see him becoming a huge religious figure or something (Buggy style). His philosophy is contagious!
-
Yesterday I have finally caught up with this series, reading chapters 40-90. Was it a blast.
Like any other Fukumoto series, this was a deep and interesting journey through a human life. Humour and drama, blending together into a something more.
Aside from Kurosawa himself, who was handed almost flawlessly, really liked the characters of Nakane and Sakaguchi, and the closure they had.
Beyond superb.
-
started reading it
-
-
Read the series. Excellent, excellent series as expected of a Fukumoto work. I'm so happy Kurosawa lived in the end though. Might have been a bit of a cop-out but goddamn did he deserve to live.
-
Where do I get the completed series TLC? Last time someone said "it was out" i told my sensei about it and he was greatly disappoint!
-
Just go to mangafox lol. It's all there.
-
Sorry to bump a super old thread, but this is the only good kurosawa thread that I found. I wanted to request you guys to please recommend some more manga like Kurosawa that have inspired you to never give up. Thank You!!
-
^ Err… Buraiden Gai? A lot of the author's works have moments like that.
-
Akagi
Kaiji
Ten
Buraiden Gai
Zero
Really any manga by Noboyuki Fukumoto, the author of Kurosawa, are of the same level of quality and with the same style.
-
some fuckass janitor deleted my thread
but there is a sequelto this manga
-
I never considered the possibility of a Kurosawa 2 (fucking loved that finale), but I'm sure Fukumoto knows what he's doing.
-
Is there a sequel? Where's the information for this?
-
What? lol Why? It was kinda perfect as it was. But it's Fukumoto so he has my undying faith. Don't know when he's going to get a chance to do this though. Last time I checked, he was wrapping Zero part 2 and after that, he's supposed to get started on Kaiji part 5.
-
I believe in Fukumoto, but was it necessary to do a sequel? Kurosawa had an awesome ending, nothing more to do with it. Well, let's see how things will wrap up.
.
And he works a lot, there's Akagi, Zero part 2 and Kaiji part 5 to do. I wonder how he can handle all of this. -
Woah woah woah. This is the best news I've heard all week. Even M. Bison himself couldn't project the level of joyous agreement I am experiencing at Fukumoto's decision to do this.
-
Can't say I don't have doubts about this. Saikyou Densetsu Kurosawa is my favorite Fukumoto work, this story got a beautiful, perfect conclusion, and I don't know if there's anything more left to say. But I trust Fukumoto completely, so there's no use worrying until it's out.
Who knows may be the sequel is about middle aged Nakane going all out Kurosawa or something.
-
A good quality story could be done following Akira Kurosawa's "Ikiru" style. By telling the story of Kurosawa and its impact among the people who knew him.
I'm sure Fukumoto wont disappoint us.
-
! I guess this explains why Fukumoto went out of his way to confirm in an interview that Kurosawa was still alive.
-

I was thinking "what a silly episode" but those last pages had the same weight behind them than the rest of the series.
Welcome back Kurosawa, we missed you.
-
Oh wow it's back! That was an interesting chapter, but if Kurosawa doesn't want a good life to be about good experiences and friends will he go back to his self-sacrificing ways? Or will this part be about him trying to get a woman (a monstrous Fukumoto-drawn woman)?
-
I think he just wants to experience the success himself and not everything handed to him easily.
-
Just caught up to the sequel of Kurosawa.
