Very nice. Quite a breath of fresh air; I was quite certain Klasky-Csupo stuff would dominate Nickelodean forever.
Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra
-
-
Klasky-Csupo stuff was good back in the day . . . . .
But yeah, I love how Avatar isn't afraid of death and violence. It never goes over the top anime-style (to keep the soccer moms at bay) but for an American cartoon it goes the distance. And it's insanely popular so if I heard right Nickelodeon ordered like 60 more eps, or at least for the show to finish.
And if we go by how the Avatars are reincarnated and in what order Aang is supposed to learn bending, it should go thus: Book of Water, Book of Earth, Book of Fire, Book of Air.
wants DVDs NOW
-
I heard that DVDs are coming soon. It would be better if they did boxed sets of each season, and name them whatever book they were.
Getting back to Seige of the Water Tribe, I missed the first few minutes of it. But, it was kind of sad, and unlike anything they've done. We can only hope that the pissed off soccer moms of the country won't come outside Nick studio with torches saying that Avatar is bad for kids to watch.
-
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/releaseinfo.cfm?ReleaseID=5348
This is the only Avatar DVD coming out according to TVshowsondvd.com.
It has the first four episodes from the Book of Water. It will require four more DVDs to complete the first season if they release them like this.
-
Gosh dangit. At least that's a step above 4Kids with three episodes per DVD. ~.~;;
-
satsuki why is the book of air last he has already learned air bending. Tho im concerened with angs(sp) va. He's only like 12 i think. well he looked that young. what happens when his voice changes….
-
And if we go by how the Avatars are reincarnated and in what order Aang is supposed to learn bending, it should go thus: Book of Water, Book of Earth, Book of Fire, Book of Air.
He already knows Air, so it'd end with him trying to learn Fire, probably.
-
He already knows Air, so it'd end with him trying to learn Fire, probably.
If Satsuki is thinking along the same lines I think she is, the series will probably end with Aang resurrecting Air Bending as a discipline.
Calling the last book Air makes more sense anyway as Air would be ascendant over Fire by that point. Fire is best used for the third book, which should have the climatic action of the series while the fourth shows the defeat of the Fire Nation and the consequences of that.
-
Actually I'm going in the order of Avatar reincarnation. read as a circle
->Water->Earth->Fire->Air.The last Avatar before Aang was a firebender, and now he an Airbender is Avatar. Meaning the next Avatar after Aang will be a Waterbender. Hence why the first book of the series is the Book of Water. It's next in the cycle.
-
A note that we do not know if Aang is an Airbending Master; if he were an apprentice, everyone else is too far gone to be of assistance. It's not implied or denied in the show, so I am convinced "Book of Air" would be the last. Seems strangely fitting.
-
I think Aang has just about if not totally mastered air bending. In the flashbacks they showed it was obvious he was the top pupil at his temple. That and those handy-dandy avatar powers.
But yeah, Book of Air should be the climactic saga since Aang is an air bender.
-

Not to mention the fact that the book began with the Southern tribe already destroyed and ended with the near destruction of the Northern tribe.
At a guess, the next book may be centered more around the Fire Nation's war with the Earth Kingdom.
-
According to Wikipedia new episodes should come out March 17.
That's on my birthday. The last show that had a season premiere on my birthday was South Park and it was one of the best episodes (The one where they are Ninja.)
I have high hopes.
And the first four episodes on DVD in two days.
-
Well that's a downer. Dude don't tell me you didn't grow up with at least one Nick show… Rugrats?? Doug?? Catdog?? Blues Clues?? Anything??
Actually yes, I grew up with all those shows and I really liked Catdog, but around 7-10 years of age cartoonnetwork took my heart.
-
Bumping this topic because I just watched episode 18, The Waterbending Master, on youtube.
That is all kinds of awesome, I have a newfound appreciation for Waterbenders. Although Earthbending is still my favorite.
And you're right, Ubiq, the Book of Earth does deal more with the Fire Nation's war against the Earth Kingdom.
-
And you're right, Ubiq, the Book of Earth does deal more with the Fire Nation's war against the Earth Kingdom.
No real surprise there; the Earth Kingdom is the competition the Fire Nation has left so the focus will be on their fight and they'll begin to press their advantage the closer the Comet comes. I figure we'll see the capital of Ba Tsing Se (that's about as close as I can get to the proper spelling) fall at the end of this chapter. Apparently, that's the only major city the Earth Kingdom has left.
Has it ever been said who rules the Earth Kingdom? Is it a collection of City-States ruled by Kings or does it have a King who rules from their capital?
I expect the last part of the Book of Earth and the Book of Fire to be real downers. Sooner or later, you'd think that the Fire Lord will want revenge against the Southern Tribe for their role in killing his pet Admiral and destroying one of his fleets. That'll most likely happen in the next book.
You know, I was really caught off-guard by the revelation that there were more Waterbenders than the polar tribes.
-
That's a one hellacious way to end an episode. He couldn't really be… I mean... surely Nickolodeon wouldn't let them do that would they?
Now watch Nickolodeon preempt it next week for whatever reason and make us wait a month to find out what happened.
-
I started to watch this show a week ago or so, when I saw it in Nickelodeon Spain: they´re around episode 11 , at least when I watch it(monday to friday at 19:30, if anyone is interested). Anyway, I´ve downloaded all the episodes of the second season (from The avatar state to Zuko Alone)…the more I think about it, the more I´m sure that Zuko will eventually turn to Aang´s side and teach him the firebending

Oh, now I'll never know.

At the end, there was a 3-way fight between Aang, Zuko, and Azula. Then, Kitara, Sokka, Taaf (Sp?), and Iroh join in. Everyone corners Azula, and she fakes a surrender. Then, she attacks, and Iroh gets hit. I don't know if he's dead, or injured. Well, he was moaning, but he might be dying.

Avatar is the only show on Nick that's shown death as far as I know. In the last part of Seige of the Water Tribe, that one girl Sokka liked (I forget her name) dies.

Believe it or not, my cousin Jack does a voice on this show, I don't know which one googles …Sokka. Don't know how he is in it...I've actually never seen the show. I'm not usually into the "american anime" types...but it's interesting to hear so many of you guys watch it! I may have to check it out.
-
Believe me, Ginny it's not your typical Ameranime. They don't go overboard with the chibi characters, and weird expressions like Teen Titans did. I heard that some of the animators are Japanese, too.
-

Holy shit. Your cousins with him?! Holy crap! He was also on all that! Man thats awesome!
Anyway…i have bearly seen any episodes on season 2 ;-; Does on demand have season 2 yet? I really wanted to see last nights too....
Whats happeneing right in the story..
-
I REALLY hope Iroh doesn't die. If he does, well, there went the theory that Iroh would teach Aang airbending.

Holy shit, your cousin is the voice of Sokka!? You are now like a mini-celebrity. Like you already weren't. (Sokka is one of the three main characters. And the source of most of the jokes)
DEFINITELY check it out, SetaGinny. It does take cues from anime, but I think it does very well on standing on its own feet. And it does that without relying on humor or already created American heroes. (no offense, TT) But what I love about it more than anything is that it doesn't insult children's intelligence. Characters die, people get hurt, there's BLOOD (not a lot, this is public television), they talk about martial arts philosophy, it acknowledges that the world is not all a cheery happy place where nobody gets hurt.
Example: How does Aang learn how his master was killed 100 years ago? He comes across his skeleton, which is surrounded by skeletons in enemy armor. Understandably, he's traumatized.

I´ve read some future episodes summaries and he´s still alive
http://epguides.com/AvatarTheLastAirbender/In the summary of The Fury of the avatar, they mention Iroh…
-
Yaaaaay!!!
although by the looks of that summary Iroh may still need healing . . .
-
Holy… your cousin is Sokka? That rocks unbelievably. Sokka is one of the best characters on the show, he's hilarious, and he has some of the best and funniest lines, completely sold by the delivery. So, if you see him, tell him he's great. ;)
@Iroh: (and this episode so rocked):
! not dead. Browsed down around the avatar_fans lj, which is kind of a mindless cesspool, but it did mention that there has been an episode announced featuring Zuko and Iroh lost in a desert. Which implies that, unless it's Zuko hauling his corpse everywhere, he'll at least survive.
I adore Azula and her Girl Brigade. The second season has been just excellent so far– the Zuko=ronin/gunfighter episode had class. Reminded me of the Western "Shane", and I'm pretty sure it was a deliberate allusion.Sometimes it's nice to relax with a familiar American sense of comic timing and pacing. And have I mentioned Azula's rockingness?
OK, I've officially overused the word "rock".
-
Which one is Iroh again? Is he from season 1 or new guy. Man youtube doesnt have any new episodes this sucks. On demand only had chapter 1 and 2 of book 2 (which were pretty good. Anag x kitrata <3)
Edit: oh wait i remember hes zuko uncle! That guy is kickass
-
warp, just get 'em from Cartoon Palace… or iTunes, you can buy them for $1.99.
Iroh is indeed Zuko's kickass uncle, current exile, former general, former crown prince of the Fire Nation, "The Dragon of the West", and my favorite. ^_^
-
Anyone else thinks that this season will end with the crew trying to reconquer Omashu?
-
It's hard to say. As of right now Bumi is in "neutral jing", where he waits and does nothing. I.e he's waiting for the best time to strike.
-
I got into this show a little while ago and just finished The Chse. I have to say I am really immpressed with this show. Are there any eps after the chase out yet?
-
A new episode will air this Friday at 8:00pm est.
-
Is there any web where I can find the new episodes? I´ve been using Emule, but if there´s anything faster(to have it on saturday or sunday…)
-
….I don't like this show in any way, shape or form.....
-

itunes has most of the recent eps up. Or find a goot Bittorrent search site and find it that way.
Seriously, this show is one of the best written animated shows this side of the ocean right now. Love the Asian influence, love that they actually base the moves off of REAL martial arts, love the dynamic Toph adds to the group. And the Zuko drama just adds so much.
Anywho, sort of late, but do you guys really think happened to Zuko's mom in "Zuko Alone"? Me, I think the emperor was really gonna either exile, take away or kill Zuko, so she killed him to save Zuko's life, then disappeared into the night. Remember she said at the beginning of the ep that when a child is in danger, a mother will strike back, no matter the odds. I also think Ozai did some nudging for her to do it himself.
-
I wondered when you'd show up in this thread . . . .
So, who saw this week's episode?
For me, I think this is the first time I REALLY enjoyed a "training" episode. Mostly because it wasn't all brawn and stuff, it was very natural and philosophical. More Zuko's end than Aang's though.
Oh, and I must say, that was quite the little King Lear moment Zuko had at the end there. (those who have read King Lear will know what I'm talking about)
-
I need to get this show on DVD now. There's already the first 12 episodes on DVD now and the next four are coming out in July so it comes out at a very fast rate.
I wonder if my wallet will keep up with it.
EDIT: Never mind, I just found out that there's a SEASON SET coming out September 19th so I'll just wait until that comes out.
-
Aww, I went to the school play and forgot to set a timer recording of the show. what happened?
-
@yokaiforte:
Aww, I went to the school play and forgot to set a timer recording of the show. what happened?
It was just a simple training episode. Both with Aang and Toph and Zuko and Iroh. Aang is trying to learn Earthbending and Zuko is trying to learn the lighting part of Firebending.
Aang is having trouble since Earth is the opposite of air but when he's able to stand up to a large beast and Toph. He's able to move rocks.
As for Zuko, he learns how to channel his chi but Iroh won't teach him how to cast lightning. So he trys to get struck by it at the end of the episode (but can't and crys).
-
Simple training episode, but it had good Iroh and good Sokka = win. And for some reason the line art in a few of the stills was really high-quality this episode. I'm wondering if they've got new people working on it.
Did the little mooseling remind anyone else of the critters from .hack?
-
Another significant thing in this episode:
We saw the first glimpse of Iroh's son in a flashback.
-
I´ve seen the episode on Youtube…poor Sokka XD
I liked all the Zuko-Iroh part...but Iroh was right, it was very dangerous.
(tries to shoot lightning and gets an explosion)
@_@ goo....ood night... - -
Aww man, I missed it too! I was at my all-night grad party.
-
**I would like to know how things would have turned out if Iroh became the Fire Lord. Would he have stopp ed the war or not. I think there is a small chance he might've, if something signifigant happned. but he would be a better ruler nonetheless.
Bitter Work was amazing. I loved the baby sabertooth moose lion cub. And Aang can finally move a rock. Everything but earthbending comes naturally to him it seems.
And how strong do you guys think Iroh is? You think he is one par with the fire lord or not?**
-
Right now he wouldn´t be able(the wounds and all that). Besides, I think there´s "something" that makes the Fire Lord more powerful(maybe that metal thing on the hair is made from the last meteor)..dunno, but that fire curtain before his throne looks suspicious
-
Well, it's easy to bet that the Fire Lord is a High-Master Firebender, but yes he probably does get some sort of boost from the meteor. However that is also why Aang has to beat him before the meteor comes again, the power from the original had faded but if the Fire Lord could tap into that energy again he would be unstoppable.

@Octogon:
So what do you think is so special about this comet anyway?
I think it has to do with Astrology, y'know, about stuff in astrology talking about how the planets are aligned affecting everyday life. Like the moon for example. It helps the waterbenders when it rises. So let's say that all nations have some sort of heavenly body that amplifies their power, in relation with astrology.
Or, perhaps, the amplification of abilities revolves around only between waterbenders and firebenders, as they are opposites, however, If this theory were true, you'd expect firebenders to bend much better around winter time, when the sun is closest to the earth. "You rise with the moon, I rise with the sun". I believe that's what Zuko said. So I'd stick with the astrology idea.
