Wasn't there supposed to be a young justice cartoon?
Cartoon Network

-
The Young Justice cartoon is coming, and soon, there was a lot of promotional stuff at Comicon. (I still say boo to Kid Flash over Impulse, but I understand the marketing reasons)
Its got Greg Weisman involved, so it should be good.
Sadly, this also means it will end after two seasons.
-
Oh cool, I guess I'll try and catch that. That fucking blows that impulse won't be in it though.
I think my favorite thing about the TT was the villians they MADE UP for the show. Mumbo jumbo was solid gold
-
The weirder villains that DC probably wouldn't even think of these days seemed to shine on TT (Mad Mod FTW, same goes for Control Freak and Mumbo…well him in "Bunny Raven"). TB&TB sort of has a good similar approach in giving some more depth and interest to the weirder villains honestly. (I really did like their version of Crazy Quilt...)
-
Yeah, some of the best episodes were the wackyland ones (though i refuse to watch Mother May Eye ever again).
I really like the Trigon arc, so I ended up buying the "Terror of Trigon" (book) about a year ago to get THE REAL STORY. It's kind of funny how juvenile the comic makes the cartoon look, but reversely the cartoon makes the comic look super corny. Also, the comic was pretty… hardcore, as expected i guess (maybe to a point between disturbing and creepy if you're a big fan of the cartoon and can't laugh off the wacky super serious junk.
! though i did think it was funny how Trigon actually mourned Raven in the comic, compared to treating her like a tool in the show, but that might have been more of a selfish thing since at that time, Raven was practically an extension of his being). It's still a pretty good read though, and the same bits I liked about the tv show arc was still there, though it was like comparing a Sunday morning cartoon to it's bloody Biblical counterpart.
TT is probably my biggest guilty pleasure ever. It's like… for every obvious reason I SHOULD hate this series (and for which i have in the past), there's probably 5 less obvious reasons that made me fall in love with it.
But now I'm kind of rambling :X
-
Ehh, that new Young justice show is appealing to me as a DC fan, but so unappealing for multiple reasons. I'll give it a pass on the lineup. Because I feel like they're trying to do their own thing, and build up a Justice League with different characters than normal. Such as using Barry Allen and Hal Jordan.
But, at the same time…. I think they should've went with Tim and Bart instead of Dick and Wally. It'd make more sense, and honestly I've been lost interest in Barry as the Flash. Even if the Flash is my favorite superhero. Plus, the JL lineup is kind of huge, I like it though. I feel like we could've done without 2 GL's. I think they just want to always have that token black character is all. Plus, we're missing Wonder Woman, wtf? And really... Zatara over Zatanna? That's just... just... why? I'm not a fan of the Hawks, but Hawkgirl grew on me as of late, so I'd like to see what they do with them.
For the YJ lineup. I would've thrown Kyle Rayner on there, just to have a young GL to appeal to the fans. And I wouldn't have had whoever mystery Artemis will be. I'd just keep Arrowete (she's awesome), definitely add Wonder Girl, leave Aqualad white like he should be >_< and then add in a different character if we must have a random racial character. Maybe like a young Black Lightning or even Thunder. I mean if they're going to add Miss Martian, why not?
That's all I have to rant about...

That's the Teen Titans cartoon in a nutshell. It was really good, but by all rights its should have been terrible.
It also led to me getting a ton of the trades. And I'd actually read the Young Justice comic when it came out originally… And these led into current Teen Titans/Outsiders... its really bizarre to see how the group keeps changing, and then they keep attempting to take it back to that core group of Robin/Cyborg/Starfire/Beast Boy and Raven, but it's always awkward since the original Titans are mid 20's and then theres the younger actual teen group, (including the Tim Drake Robin/Nightwing thing) and they interact wierdly and they never uite pull in all five of those at the same time.
Also Beast Boy shifting his name to "Changling" and then back to "Beast Boy"... which fits him better but is wierd since, again... in his 20's now.
-
@the Young Justice Cartoon: they made Aqualad black? lolwut.

Teen Titans was such a weird show for me and my sisters. I hadn't REALLY become an anime fan (nor did I even care about One Piece), and my sister hated the thought of anime. And when Teen Titans came on, we decided to give the show a chance.
First episode, I vaguely liked it, but my sisters would complain about animation. However, we'd agree to see the next episode, to which we randomly fell in love with it. We all had the same favorite character (Raven, of course), and would come to see each and every episode. It was the last action show the three of us would see religiously since the 90's X-Men and Spiderman cartoons.

what about anime like soul eater?

I liked Teen Titans. I probably would have liked it more if they didn't overuse anime clichés or just used a different art style. I think it was very unfitting and nowadays, it pushes me out of the show as soon as I'm starting to get sucked into it. again. It is definitely fun action and writing-wise (though it could also do without the romantic drama). It had a ton of great moments, like the integration of classic Hannah-Barbera comedy and pop culture parody into the semi-serious action context during the Mad Mod episodes (the Mad Mod episodes were arguably my favorites. At least they are, as far as I can remember).
I agree that the endearing characteristics really outweigh the major turnoffs.

I think I loved every reoccuring villian on this show. Slade had the best one linersWe all had the same favorite character (Raven, of course),
lol I didn't like her for a long time, though during that time she still might have been my favorite just because I didn't bother to like any of the characters PERIOD. She radiates I AM GOTH vibes pretty strongly at the beginning, and though I typically favor dark heroes, my love must be earned. (and so it was)
The first episode of the series is laughably bad though.

Anyone else remember that Slade had a butler in that episode? Yeah, you can tell it was the pilot episode.
Anyway, I always loved Teen Titans and I never really felt bad or guilty about it (except for those oddball episodes, like Mother Mae-Eye). I'm not even sure if I was in full anime swing when I started watching it, but I thought the art and the premise looked good and I pretty much loved it right from the start. Also, Slade was awesome.

I'll have to sign off on this.
I don't understand what is with the yankee obsession with blending American cartoons with anime imitation. It's like they think anime fans only like it for vainly superficial reasons, i.e. the artstyle.
Gosh only knows that while I once found the upcoming Marvel-Madhouse cartoons cool looking, I still rolled my eyes at them.
-
I never had much reasons to hate TT at first, aside from the fact I thought the whole "teen" sounded corny. When I gave the show a try, I was impressed. It was wild. It had really interesting storylines. It also had quite a bit of western puns I related well too. That was enough to warrent me looking forward to more episodes.

What do you mean by that?

I think I loved every reoccuring villian on this show. Slade had the best one linersSlade was awesome!
[hide]I was so happy we he came back from the dead. The fact that he betrayed Trigon was badass! Even in the face of a horrible demon, Slade does everything for his own plans.[/hide]
Mumbo Jumbo was a crap load of fun, but I loved the episode where the team has to chase Control Freak through television. Looking back, the show had great villains. Never really liked Mad Mod, though.

Completely understandable. I try not to like characters because, "OH! THEY'RE DARK AND MISUNDERSTOOD", but Raven was just too awesome.
I loved Raven a few episodes in simply for her awesome powers and episodes based off of her. The episode "Fear Itself", when a horror movie they watch comes to life, was one of my favorite episodes. It definitely made Raven seem human, and pretty much solidified her as my favorite character.
I was actually okay with most of the cast. Except Terra. Never really liked Terra.
Terra: BEASTBOY! You pointed out that I need to work on my powers even though I obviously suck with them, and I actually use complex powers that would take years to actually master! I HATE YOU!
The first episode of the series is laughably bad though.
My God, yes! NONE of the characters had any of their personality except Robin, who just did his usual, "LET'S GO TITANS!" Hell, even Beastboy was tame…BEASTBOY! I understand it was the opening for the show, but that's supposed to be the episode that pulls people in.
Luckily, I liked the "Sisters" episode that followed.
Anyone else feel they put "Winner Take All", the episode where the male teen heroes had to win to be the best hero, was put on WAY too often?

Show suffered whenever
Ron PearlmanSlade left for long periods of time. Brother Blood was a terrible villain for all of season 3… (He lost every single episode, had his bases destroyed, had all his minions betray him, and turned himself into a robot not realizing that meant BS&P would let him be blown up then...) and then season 5 had a brain in a jar and a gorilla. It was just always better with
Deathstroke the TerminatorSlade. Though the wacky villains were fun too… just not the season arc bosses that weren't Slade or Trigon. -

Deathstroke the TerminatorSlade. Though the wacky villains were fun too… just not the season arc bosses that weren't Slade or Trigon.Exactly! None of their 'serious' villains worked except Trigon and Slade. Trigon was built up to be this ultimate Satan of sorts, and it worked! And Slade's presence would just bring a shiver down your spine. You knew the two meant business, and they were interesting. I seriously HATED Brother Blood. So freaking boring. Typical, "Follow me because I say so", villain. Dictator types are rarely any good, with some exceptions like Magneto of course.
And the wacky and silly villains work. Superheroes will often fight idiots who think they are capable of pulling off crimes, and these moment actually show the true personality and colors of the heroes. Not to mention, weird villains make great and fun situations.

I thought season 3 was tolerable, but season 5 was pretty bad. Almost every episode of that season had to do with the overarching story when they probably should've just stuck to the half-filler/half-plot formula. And of course they tried to spam as many "extra" heroes as they could at us. And yes, the brain, as you said, was lame.
BTW, am I the only one that shipped BB/Raven?
…Did I just type that out loud?

Teen Titans, ladies and gentlemen. Where filler is good. (I agree though. The show had GREAT filler.)

I can assure you, you are not, but I never like shipping anyone in that series. Not that I didn't want any of them together, I just often felt that the shipping taunts were a bit whorish. God knows, there was Ro/SF, Ro/Ra, Cy/SF, BB/SF, BB/Ra, Aqlad/SF, Aqlad/Ra (Aqualad is a whore…), and let's not forget the Cyborg/Jinx.
But I'd be okay with Raven being with Beastboy. I was much more okay with the Kid Flash/Jinx.
-
I didn't mind The Brain and Mallah myself, but that's at least partially because the latter comes from the era when DC Editor-in-Chief firmly believed that putting a gorilla on the cover of a comic increased its sales. The camp value alone earns them a pass along with the fact that The Brain was pretty much a Dalek. There was no excuse for Brother Blood being totally useless though; it didn't help that he pretty much just used the Doctor Drakken voice the whole time either.
-
Oh my God. Teen Titans. That's my show right there.
I have to agree with everyone. The villains were awesome, except for Control Freak and Atlas.Slade was beast!
The only problem I had with it was that they didn't go into Robin's past more.
They hinted at Batman in one episode, but they never showed Batman and Robin together. That would have been awesome. Hell, they even showed Robin as Nightwing in that one future episode. The only Teen Titan whose past was explained the most was Raven.
AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN REVEAL WHO RED X WAS.
sigh Maybe I should start reading the comic. -
BTW, am I the only one that shipped BB/Raven?

I ship it so bad
I was kind of praying for it after Spellbound

What? Control Freak was in two of the best episodes of the entire series and was far and away the best original villain the show had.
AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN REVEAL WHO RED X WAS.
sigh Maybe I should start reading the comic.I doubt that even the people who made the series had ever decided who it was. The best bet is probably Jason Todd.
-

…......
Curse you. That image will never leave my mind, yet it is so awesome....
God, I can't stand Terra. Why did she live?!
To torment us all.
I didn't shed a tear when she 'died'. I was crying though. Much more because Slade 'died'.
-
What? Control Freak was in two of the best episodes of the entire series and was far and away the best original villain the show had.
Well, for me, I find him annoying. Everytime he came on the screen, I just sighed. He wasn't funny. He was just a fat, obnoxious nerd.
I doubt that even the people who made the series had ever decided who it was. The best bet is probably Jason Todd.
He better not be Jason Fucking Todd.
-
He was just a fat, obnoxious nerd.
That… that was pretty much the point. I actually laughed out loud when the shipping conversation came up between Control Freak and his colleagues in For Real.
He better not be Jason Fucking Todd.
They probably never would have revealed who he was anyway, but that still seems the most likely candidate especially seeing as how Robin was Dick Grayson.
-

Another thing:
They never once called Robin Dick Grayson in the show.
The only Titan (besides Starfire and Raven) who was ever called by their name was Beastboy. -
But in "Fracture" the little Robin dude was "Nosyarg Kcid". Which was "Dick Grayson" backwards.
So, he was most probably the Dick Grayson Robin.
-

They never once called Robin Dick Grayson in the show.
The only Titan (besides Starfire and Raven) who was ever called by their name was Beastboy.Beyond the previously pointed out fact that his mirror universe counterpart was Nosyarg Kcid, he grew up to be Nightwing and there was a reference to a trapeze act at one point. While they might have used elements from each of the Robins, he's pretty much Dick Grayson.
-
@Badass:

This, and on the same episode, Beastboy thought to himself and went through a list of different existing Robins or similar identities. Amongst them was a Robin with the name "Jason Todd" next to him.
-
I thought that was from the episode where Red-X first appeared as a separate character.
-

Curses! I didn't watch HoND for the first time until a few years after TT's run.
AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN REVEAL WHO RED X WAS.
sigh Maybe I should start reading the comic.I doubt that even the people who made the series had ever decided who it was. The best bet is probably Jason Todd.
My own personal theory has been that Red X was a clone of Robin made by Slade who went rogue. After that, Slade decided, "Fuck it, I'm done with Robin," and went after Terra.
-

Yeah, I thought so.
I knew BB and Raven made it in that one issue of TT (the one not based on the show). I just wanted to be sure.

Holy shit. I am usually terrible with voices and I never bothered placing it as a kid, but that is definitely Carl from Johnny Bravo.
-
I never had any problems with Terra. Just saying.

You mean Tom Kenny. Yep, that's him. I know sometimes his voice can be a bit irritating, but he just brings a certain humor and liveliness to all his roles.
-
I never had any problems with Terra. Just saying.
How could you!!!!!!
Actually I don't really hate her, but she really didn't do anything for me. I thought she was popular here though, lol.
I still have a hard time believing Raven is voiced by Tara Strong (bubbles/truffles). There's an extra on the DVD where BB's va talks and it's so bizarre to see that voice coming from a grown man
-
Honestly about the season villains:
Slade/Deathstroke: Epicness beyond epicness
Brother Blood: Um…yeah
Trigon: Evil bastard
Brotherhood of Evil: Honestly...I actually liked that Brain was turned into a Dalek. Other than that...they really needed a better plan than "gather up a bunch of fodder to defeat a bunch of characters they stuffed in for fanservice". -
I always assumed Red X was a Red Hood reference.
The thing about the Brian and Mallah: They were in love with each other. A French brain in Dalek armor in love with an ape. Silver Age at it's finest.
-
Raven and Beast Boy were totally a couple. His cheerfulness was good against her emo, and they had so much banter!
@Cyan:

Thank god the show didn't play up that aspect. Wierded me the heck out when the comics played that card. a GAY gorilla and a brain in a jar. That makes it… uhm... not better.

It felt a little too forced.
Also, I found this video of 4 voice actors at a panel in New Zealand. One was the voice of Goofy, the english voice actresses of chopper and luffy from OP, and Greg Cipes (who was the voice of Beast Boy). In it he says the series (Teen Titans) was supposed to be coming back. Anybody know anything about that?

I think I heard a rumor or something about that a while back, but there's nothing confirmed except for the new YJ.
If it comes back, it might be an entirely different animal, since I'm sure some of the people on the show have already moved on. I like to speculate that it will since I hear it was pretty popular, and it did end on a bit of a cliff hanger. I don't know if the new Young Justice will help TT's chances though, as I don't think DC or CN would want two shows about teenaged superhero/sidekicks at the same time, competing with each other. TT might come back if YJ does well (or if it does bad, there's still a good chance since TT had good ratings), but I do know that the longer it's off the air, the less likely it will come back, so it's probably good as dead.
But who knows for sure? CN isn't one to turn down characters that make money. Chances are, it's probably dead or if it comes back, it'll be a whole new animal (like say… YOUNG JUSTICE???).
tldr: its probably dead

Ron Perlman was Slade?
I'm rarely surprised anymore, but this revelation did the near-impossible.
Of course I might not have known who Ron Perlman was when I first heard that, although I've forgotten either way. =3=
