Pwngoat would be the perfect opponent for Enel.

I'll give you guys a round 2 spoiler.
Give me Enel vs. Nami and I'll cry womanly tears.
^^ This…
! …is not one of the matches.

The only bit of good news: the further we get along in the process, the more the potential SHs will go down. Doesn't mean one can't still win the tourney, it's just that with the bigger guns surviving, they have better shots at bigger opponents.
Besides, the whole anti-SH movement better get in gear with Oda starting to bring them back. (though nothing really against them personally)
-
anti-SH movement…. is a totally failed movement. It has never been able to take down any SH. the only way SH have lost is when they faced a tough opponent.

The last time I read a more disappointing spoiler was in this thread:

that shows sure that iam unique^^1 -
I am voting against WB from now on even if he is in my top 10 favourite OP characters, because Ace fanboys and BB haters are becoming a pain in the ass:getlost:
OMGZ BB killed WB, BB you are bad:getlost: -

I think it'd be cool to do the next tournament's preliminaries similar but slightly different. Instead of the top four in each heat, do the top three, in addition to the 32 highest non-qualifying vote-getters overall. (Percentage or raw, doesn't matter) That way matches with lots of awesome characters will get more characters in, while generally lame matches can put only three in.
If any of the above makes sense.
Its an interesting idea, but part of the pressure (and fun) is knowing that a character can be knocked out that day. If a character can lose in the first round and then still come around due to percentage later, that changes up the dynamics pretty radically. Perona and Vivi seem to be the two most regular complaints from this time around, but if they could get knocked out on a day where people have as many votes as they wanted… it probably means they wouldn't have fared all that well.
Plus, day to day races change a lot depending on how close it is, and there start to be a lot more votes after its been going for a few weeks. Close matches get a lot more voters and stay a lot more heated for a longer time. Zoro, with the same score and percentage he had in the first day, would have lost in later rounds... to Hatori! (I think. I don't care enough to fact check this extreme example, but I think it worked out that way.)
Plus, I think the result would be pretty much the same, except this time it would be the characters coming in 4th potentially getting screwed, instead of those in 5th. Its a RANDOM tiered draw, so... its random.
All that said, that is a totally valid and interesting suggestion, this tourney is still going and we're seeing the reaction to some things and there's a lot of time till next year's, who knows what kind of changes we'll come up with and implement by then.
-
I'm guessing this idea has been mentioned before, but anyway… Maybe the ultimate winner/Champe'en of the whole kit and kabootle needs to be out of the next year's tourney (not for every tourney after--just the next year's)? That would eliminate all the Luffy troubles, right? (And I am totally and 100% a SH/Luffy supporter, so it's an honest suggestion)
S/he could present the new winner with the Olive crown or something, lol (some board artist could draw it...)

It's been thrown around a lot, but generally shot down just because they're still a OP character, so it would technically not really be fair not to include them even if they were the previous year's winner.
Whenabouts are the matchups gonna come out? Sometime today or not until the first match of the second round?

Well, I figure percentage would be somewhat more accurate. I mean only reason Perona got so many votes is largely because of a huge voter turnout that day. But, it kind of takes care of "filler" characters like Hiking Bear or Red-Hair Pirates (no offense, I think I voted both) who only place fourth, but a distant fourth, whereas in other matches (Like Enel vs everybody) where its extremely close, it helps to give other favorites a chance.
Not to mention, this method would actually make "lol imma vote for all ten" a valid choice.
Another way to make it more interesting is to seed the matches, in a way. I mean, its been proven this tournament that a "4th placer" can effortlessly take out a "1st placer". To highten the stakes a bit, the 32 wild card characters would have to face the characters voted highest in each heat. Doesn't necessarily mean a lock for the first place character.
In fact, I ran a tournament using this exact suggestion (only a limit on number of votes was imposed) for FF characters on another forum (but lost interest later, mind you, due to low turnout). Interestingly, Cloud and Sephiroth both ended up in Wild Card matches, and several Wild Cards won against "the first place" guys in their matches.
Just a bit of a suggestion. Hope my two cents are worth something ^_^

The pre-lims WERE seeded actually. First character was in the top 32 from last year, second character in 33-64, etc. This helped avoid having all the strawhats in one prelim, for instance. 5th slot was the characters we immediatley thought of that should have been in the previous year, 10th slot was "new" characters. It did lead to a fair bit of fodder in slots 6-9, but…
Like I said, there's a long time to think on it before next year. We'll see what happens. Interesting ideas though.
Round two should be announced any time now...

We should have a Round 2 spoilers thread :silly:
