I'm following Band of the Hawk's scanlations, they had a torrent of the first 26 volumes together. Their translations weren't that great, but as of reading volume 22 they seem to have greatly improved. I was annoyed with some of the volumes before 22 had empty speech bubbles or untranslated text, but this was basically background characters and the like…nothing important to the story.
Once I finish volume 25, should I just goto a different group or just stay with Band of the Hawk?

Theres also Evil Genius.Alas there is no defenitive Berserk scans, unless you want to buy Dark Horses books, but they're only at 17.

Yeah, I intend to buy Dark Horse's when I get money, they are like releasing a volume every 3 months now. I just hope I have no trouble buying it due to those Parental Advisory stickers they slap on it with me being under 18.

Look at the picture closely, Guts is on the very top of the hill while everyone else is walking on the downgrade.
Oh, and hey Buhuhan1, would you mind coloring page 16-17 of volume 22? It's a pic of Zodd flying over a forrest. Or if thats too much work maybe you can color page 51 of Guts and Zodd clashing swords? Thanks in advance.

Volume 21 chapter 4 would be an awesome chapter in color, the entire time reading it I just imagined coloring it. Tho if I ended up actually coloring full chapters, I'd think people would rather it be newer chapters.
As for your request, I can't say how good they'd come out, but I suppose I can try to color Page 51.

Definitely go with Evil-Genius, very good translations and quality scans. If you want even more accurate translations, go to skullknight.net, but they are strictly script only, no scans.
Also, Darkhorse releases every 2 months now and I recommmend picking them up. Really good translations with the exception of some really bad interpretations, but it's very rare.

Well, I know for sure that they have torrents for vol.27 all the way up till current on their downloads page, but I'm not sure if anyone's seeding them or not. Might as well try it out. I'll look to see if I can find some earlier volumes for you, might be in their forums somewhere.
Oh, just checked and there are seeders. Lucky you, but your gonna have to have winrar to unzip.

The anime is ok. It does leave out some key elements like the Skull Knight and Puck and of course isn't as violent as the manga, but it does give an good introduction to the world of Berserk and certainly forces you to start reading the manga, thanks to the mother of all cliffhangers: The series ends in the middle of the eclipse… At least it left me gasping for breath, shocked, devastated and dying to know what happens next -> I started to read the manga.
The thing I love the most about the anime is the unique atmoshpere. The music is really brilliant and fits the series. Everything just feels so.. berserk. Of course the manga is 100 times better, but the anime is worth checking out, at least because of the music and atmoshpere.

It seems like Band of the Hawk redid some of their earlier scanlations for volumes 18-21, since they looked very sloppy. My only main complaint about their translations is that they called the character Schierke "Silke" for far too long.
Still, I prefer their work over Evil Genius, since their scans look much nicer overall. EG uses the magazine scans and their vol. 27-28 work looked rather weak. They've gotten better with cleaning up their scans recently, though.
BOTH seemed to have stopped scanlating after Volume 30, so everything from chapter 267 onward is only available from EG

Mostly focuses on Azan/Isidro, and Schierke/Farnese who is doing some astral traveling.Also it looks like Gutts has a load of new scars from his fight with Ganishka.

That's where you see the difference between Berserk and shonens (if you needed to); in Berserk the powerup that eats away at your life really does fuck you up, and it shows.
They are still powerups, never the less. That sort of gives Berserk a shonen like after taste. But, yeah, pretty cool. I swear, one of these days I will catch up with the series.

Does anyone else think that Habanafuku (Elf King, I don't know if that's how you spell his name or not) and the Skull Knight are going to be similar beings? Or has it been stated somewhere exactly what the Elf King is?
In any case I'm eagerly anticipating them finally getting to Puck's home, dealing with the Caska situation in whatever outcome results from it, and meeting with who could be one of the most powerful characters in the Berserk series (already counting Godhand, Idea, etc).

I finally read the first volume today at borders, and honestly, I wasn't that impressed. It was ok, but none of it really wowed me. The cliffhanger to the volume was good though. I'll keep reading because I know how amazing the art gets, but wasn't all that impressed with the first volume.

I'd say Berserk is like One Piece that both have a very average beginning to the story but it picks up after a few volumes and then you're hooked.

Yeah, I'd say Berserk only starts to be really addictive with Gutts' flashback in volume 3. And then it only gets better and better.

Believe me, it gets better! I read the first 2 volumes around a year ago and was bored and left it.
I came back to it around 3 weeks ago starting from volume 3 and well…..I'm hooked. I'm saddened I only have 4 volumes left till I'm caught up....nothing lasts forever.
I suppose I will be glad to be caught up with everyone else tho.

But the first volumes shows that he really DID plan the story far ahead. Lookit the dialogue between Guts and Femto when Guts fights the Count. Ties in perfectly <3
But yeah, Guts having double joints on every limb and doing awkward poses doesn't help.

Nah, I definitely enjoyed Volume 3 quite a bit, due to the surprising refusal of the apostle count to sacrifice his own daughter, THE Black Swordsman/Femto encounter, and one of only two times the Guts experiences the behlit being used. I thought the parting shot of Guts weeping was well done. And Guts mercilessly cutting up the count's face with a sadistic grin on his face was hilarious for some reason, especially since the old translation I used for it was "No wonder you monsters are so above humans! You don't know how to fucking die!!"
Also, the first two have some sort of cheesy campiness about them. Characterization of Guts is more simplistic, and the plot lacking focus–Guts was just killing monsters in hopes of randomly stumbling upon the elusive God hand. But they're definitely fun to look back at after becoming familiar with the series. The art is still great though (if surpassed in later volumes). And they are still interesting in seeing a completely visceral, bloodthirsty Guts. The Guts as the Black Swordman was given much more depth in the subsequent Lost Children arc (although still as sadistic toward his foes at times).

I'm thankful for whoever it was who recommended me to skip first three books because, frankly, it was a quite ride to not know how everything would turn out to be with Gutts and Griffith and all. Not untill I had caught up with the series, it was the very very beginning of the Troll Arc back then I believe (meaning a very very long time ago), when I decided to check them out. And, yeah, while I won't say those are poop those still aren't not that far off from it.
