@Yoska:
True. I usually recommend Protoss for new players. They are the most beginner friendly faction. I'm a Protoss guy myself. Mostly.
New players seems to usually gravitate toward Terran though. Perhaps because it's easy to understand what different buildings and units do just based on the looks alone. Zerg and Protoss are alien after all.
It is definately true that terran is what beginners will generally choose, I did too. But at some point I have tried out both zerg and protoss, but always reverted back to terran. You just get an affinity for something and while I can't really explain it, it makes it hard to really switch. In warcraft 3 for example I always liked the orc for some reason and couldn't bring myself to play anything else even though they were the weakest race. Never played war3 that much though, more starcraft because a lot of my friends at the time were into it aswell. I remember one friend always played protoss and he just mass produced zealots and sent them in one unending stream at his opponent without even looking at the fight, game after game after game. Good times :)
@Kaizoku-Syn:
I personally like Terran overall, followed by protoss than zerg. But I can't wait till the game comes out. I wonder how nerfed the siege tanks are now? With all the new abilities and units everything is so hectic.
They still seem quite nice, but a bit less and more situationally useful than in normal starcraft. I've been watching quite a few replays and it's clear that everyone is still very much figuring out the vast complexity of the game. Certain units can seem very powerful, overwhelmingly so at times, but then in another game they are countered easily all of a sudden. There is no doubt still a lot of balancing and changes coming, for example in just two patches blizzard has changed the Mothership from a totally gamebreaking overpowered unit into something lackluster you don't want to build anymore.
Oh and a new AI is out it seems, V5 (oh and V5.1), gonna try that tomorrow see if it can kick my ass ^^
