Listen, I was told about the everything being a fake is impossible thing by someone smarter than me. I know it isn't scientific law but if at least one of them is truth than that means the afterlife exists. But in this day and age it's impossible to tell which one is real and which one is fake unless of course you spent a whole bunch of money on equipment so you could perform tests.
Not to be insulting, but someone doesn't have to be smarter than you to be a better liar than you. :p

The person was…..my caregiver yes that's right I'm autistic. I was hoping I wouldn't tell you guys that I'm autistic but now you know. Anyway my caregiver tells me stuff I don't know and I'm pretty sure he knows what he's doing.

Is said caregiver a scientist and/or other intellectual who has researched the subject?
-
My brother's autistic and I've known most of his caretakers. Some of them barely know what they're doing, they're in no better position to give qualified theories on the afterlife.
-
People talk about afterlife as if its a science. But who can be an 'expert' on the afterlife? A Mechanic would have an equal amount of factualy knowledge on the afterlife that any 'professional' has - simply because it isnt an 'empirical' subject.
-
A philosopher who's studied all the relevant theories.
-
But they are theories. You can ask anyone a 'theory'. It still remains a theory, not fact. Hence my point.
-
The problem is that there really isn't much factual knowledge on the subject.
-
But they are theories. You can ask anyone a 'theory'. It still remains a theory, not fact. Hence my point.
It still makes them an expert because they know the various arguments and thus can debate it confidently.

A philosopher is an expert on philosophy. They study any theories, that doesnt make them an expert on the Afterlife. Philosophers are logical but they can also be open minded. But if a member of my family dies. I woudnt go to a philosopher, who would? And I wouldnt go to a priest (im not religious). I would deal with it in my own way.
I guess people go to someone who will tell them what they want to hear. Thats how these things usually work

A philosopher is an expert on philosophy.
Study of the afterlife is an aspect of philosophy
They study any theories, that doesnt make them an expert on the Afterlife.
What about those who focus on the afterlife.
Philosophers are logical but they can also be open minded.
You say this like those are mutual contradictions

An expert is somebody who studies exculsively in their respected field and knows the more about that field than the vast majority of people. You don't seem to know what an expert is, I'm not saying philosophers have the answer but they know more about the problem than anyone else.
-
If you believe in afterlife, do you also believe in beforelife???
-
If you believe in afterlife, do you also believe in beforelife???
i believe in the middlelife aka RIGHT NOW… but is this life even real?? who knows?? uber deep question!

This is the point I am trying to make. It is like me saying that I think that when you die you turn into a giant apple and float to the moon (an invisible apple obviously). What I am saying is so what If they class themselves as an expert on the afterlife. Their knowledge isnt based on what 'does' happen when you die, but on theories of what happen when you die. And anyone can come up with theories. Like mine.
And I like how you ignored my last point. That people go and seek advide on the afterlife based on what they want to hear. So a christian would go to a priest for example.
And dont patronise me saying I dont know what an 'expert' is. I have a dictionary, I understand well enough.
I have studied philosophy at college. Now I would never class myself as an expert on the afterlife. But I would never in a million years think I had the right to give people advice on what happens when a loved one passes away.
Oh and instead of just quoting me and making little digs at things I say, try making a valid point and backing it up substantially.

This is utterly irrelevant and has nothing to do with that we were arguing. I never said philosophers know what happens. I said they were experts on the subject. You then disagreed and started this pointless tirade in which you keep meandering off track.
You don't seem to get philosophy, the whole point of philosophy is debating things we cannot work out empiricaly and finding the most likely solution. There are no definite answers.
And I like how you ignored my last point. That people go and seek advide on the afterlife based on what they want to hear. So a christian would go to a priest for example.
I ignored it because it was irrelevant to our discussion, as was 90% of your post. Why would I answer it anyway, what you're saying is true. True but irrelevant.
And dont patronise me saying I dont know what an 'expert' is. I have a dictionary, I understand well enough.
It's reassuring that you know what an expert is, it proves your mental ability is somewhere above a 6 year olds.
I have studied philosophy at college. Now I would never class myself as an expert on the afterlife. But I would never in a million years think I had the right to give people advice on what happens when a loved one passes away.
Cool. I've studied philosophy and critical thinking. Do you know what a non-sequitur is?
Oh and instead of just quoting me and making little digs at things I say, try making a valid point and backing it up substantially.
lol, getting angry at pointless digs is pretty much the biggest mistake you can make on a forum. I've made plenty of valid points, you've jumped around them or changed the subject.
Schnoobie
wow, thanks for this, almost forgot who I was talking to.

It isnt irrelevant in the slightest. Its my opinion. I have made it in the correct thread so I see no problem.
And I know what a philosopher is as well. Philosophers use premises to evaluate possabilities/probabilitis for things (like you said) that cant be proven factually. We agree on that one.
One again, you have disected my post yet made no point of your own. So make one. Whats your spin on this?

Alright, When I die I'll let ya'll know about the afterlife. What do you think about that people?
-
My brother's autistic and I've known most of his caretakers. Some of them barely know what they're doing, they're in no better position to give qualified theories on the afterlife.
My caregiver knows what he's doing. He's trying to prepare me for the real world and it's working.
And another thing, I just realized that if you guys don't believe in the afterlife then why are you so happy? I mean if you believe that when you die you die you would be pretty upset wouldn't you? Never being able to see your loved ones again, everything that makes you you (memories, feelings, senses) gone. It would be pretty depressing if everything you worked for was all gone. Maybe the afterlife isn't like what we think it is. Like maybe when we get tired of the afterlife we can choose whether or not we can be reincarnated and start life all over on Earth or whatever. The point is that there is evidence that the afterlife is real. Whatever it will be is what we'll find out eventually.
-

Ask Chet Atkins is he wants a roommate.
@Justaway:My caregiver knows what he's doing. He's trying to prepare me for the real world and it's working.
He may be qualified to prepare you for life, but not for stating there's more proof to the existence to an afterlife than proof to the opposite.
-
I feel sorry for those puppets…
-
And another thing, I just realized that if you guys don't believe in the afterlife then why are you so happy?
Arguing your posts doesn't define a stance on the issue.

Some of us (Meself included) accept death the old fashioned way: It's a natural part of nature, and if there's nothing, there's nothing. No need to work up a fuss about it.
And kindly present this proof.
-
My caregiver knows what he's doing. He's trying to prepare me for the real world and it's working.
The question of afterlife is kinda irrelevant to that, the ability to raise a dude well? Metaphysical mumbo jumbo doesn't matter next to learning to be a good person and get along with folks and work hard and all that. Which anyone can teach regardless of afterlife beliefs. So the two are unrelated.
And another thing, I just realized that if you guys don't believe in the afterlife then why are you so happy? I mean if you believe that when you die you die you would be pretty upset wouldn't you?
Why?
Never being able to see your loved ones again, everything that makes you you (memories, feelings, senses) gone. It would be pretty depressing if everything you worked for was all gone.
And have you ever met people who believe in afterlives who don't get sad about losing loved ones and themselves? They do it anyway.
No matter what they say, mortality bothers people and upsets them when it occurs so to speak. That's part of life. And we all learn to deal with it. And no, not by afterlife, but by the same way people deal with any sadness.
The point is that there is evidence that the afterlife is real.
But there isn't. Why do you think there would be debate if people found actual hard evidence for such things? It would be all over the news.
-
@JERK:
And we all learn to deal with it. And no, not by afterlife, but by the same way people deal with any sadness.
Let's see…
Eating, sleeping, playing video games, going for a walk, drawing/writing, masturbation, registering at Arlong Park forums.

He meant relieving grief, not increasing it.

There is proof, people who don't believe are just too stubborn to realize. Not that I'm calling you stubborn.
-

I'll ask again: Show us this proof.
-

Proof isn't a matter of realization. It's a matter of hard facts.
This is the difference between the flat and round earth example you brought up.
-
@Cyan:
I'll ask again: Show us this proof.
The only way to prove that the afterlife exists is to talk about my religious beliefs. And since we can't do that perhaps we should just lock this thread.
-
And since we can't do that perhaps we should just lock this thread.
Bull. Someone get robby and persuade him to give us a pass on this. I want to hear it.
-
There is proof, people who don't believe are just too stubborn to realize. Not that I'm calling you stubborn.
There isn't proof, that's the whole concept of FAITH, you believe in your religion with all your being and put your faith in it without actual tangible facts that prove it correct.
-
The only proof he has is a loaded gun.
-
when one world religion is right (in the end it can just be one) than all the other people who lived a good life, go to hell just because they were raised in the wrong invironment so that they used to be buddhist instead of being catholic?
god is fair…you have to go through al religions and make your decision..choose wise!but i can tell ya one thing..when you believe in papacy (or what the pope says) you can
t be right at all... in catholic law the word of the pope is higher than the word of god..sad but true. so one of the main rules is that you have to pray to God
s words and to follow his rules.
but when the "leader" of catholic church even acts against his own religion(or at least what the bible says) i don`t see any hope in that way to achieve the heaven. -

Dude, stop, really. You're just beating yourself up every time you post. You haven't been discussing your beliefs, you're repeating what "someone smarter then you" has said.
@Don:
you have to go through al religions and make your decision..choose wise!
Save yourself some time and just do without any religion.
-
Save yourself some time and just do without any religion.
Isn't it the opposite?
People like to be spoonfed. The fast-food generation.
Why think about those stuff when there is religion/smarter people, who can give you all the answers you want! -
-
Save yourself some time and just do without any religion.
Or do what I did on my 13th birthday and put the names of as many religions as you can on a dartboard. You'll figure out what to do next.
-
dudes, this guy is autistic. Not that I'm saying they are complete retards, but let the man believe what he wants to. I don't think there is any way you are able to convince him to stop.
To another subject, I really don't see why anyone would want to believe in god. Atheists life is soooooo much easier. And more fun. We don't have to live in fear of hell and stuff.
-
also some idiot is probably going to bring up "but aren't you scared of nothingness :´("
nope, nothing to fear. We can actually focus to enjoy life right here and now -
Please don't make separate posts, that's what the edit button is for.

yeah I know, huge crime to humanity

That's the problem with athisim, you can go to heaven if you lived a good life and didn't believed in God. But, if you don't believe in God and did whatever you want without any worry of reprucussions…...well.......

How is that a problem? That works out quite well. In fact what your saying makes atheism identical to theism.
-

also what JERK and KingOfSaurus said

The Buddhists and La Veyan Satanists are so fucked then.
-
I'm talking about Hell. One thing I don't like about athisim is that people think they can do whatever they want and not get punished for it. (except for jail of course)
-

No actually atheists are members of human society like everyone else and live and die by the same legislation put in place to punish and keep order. And they beleive in those institutions and morals therein like most everyone else.
Considering Atheists are one of the more peaceful and orderly demographics, and countries that are largely irreligous include peace infested first world places like Sweden and the Czech Republic. I'd say your assertion is faulty eh?
