Japanese Survey Says "One Piece" is #2 Choice for Live-Action Movie

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The People have spoken & soon their voice will be heard !
I know people Live Anime Adaptions suck !
But Deep (Deep, Deep, Deep) Down - We ALL Love Them -
If it ever becomes a reality, I hope it's not made by 20th Century Fox. YOU know why.

Awww, It wasn't that bad, I liked it, though
bits were cheesy & Joon Park acted like a Power Ranger -
I'm not sure about this. I haven't liked any Live Action Anime adaptions so far. They are just saddening sometimes…. and heartbreaking. I try my best to see the positive side but there's always...something.
-
rumors about a Monster movie by New Line have been circulating for years and it's much better suited for live action than OP, so it's far more likely to happen (or at least more likely to happen sooner)
but I think I would enjoy a live-action One Piece no matter how awful it was, to be honest
-

I think it was in the DB Evolution Thread, but Buuhan made a synopsis of how they'd 'modernise' Bleach for a Live Adaption, it was really funny !
Naruto Movie'd be funny ! (More Believe Its than an Illegal Immigration Case…)
Also - Sad thing is, 3, maybe 4 years - I think they will make a Naruto one, no, I KNOW they WILL - And the even sadder thing is, that AP Forums WILL enjoy it ...
(Rocks back & forward, back & forward ... there we go, that's it ...)

True - But you can't deny that James Marsters MADE Piccolo !
-
I recently watched DBE
My sadness was akin to being trapped on the "Its a small world" ride at Disney.
No matter how much you scream to make it stop it won't.
If 20th century fox touches it, I'll become a witch from Left 4 Dead..<
-
god this will be a suck fest one piece fighting style and humor just wont work in real life monster would work well as a live action thoe
-
That's why, Brook, a live-action adaption should have a combination of jokes from the Manga and it's own original humor. I can already think of atleast 20 hilarious roles for East Blue alone. Just imagine: Weird Al as Usopp sings his lies to the tune of various pirate-themed songs by other artists.
-
A live-action movie of One Piece has the potential to be great, I've given thought to that from time to time.
Odd that Slam Dunk is #1 though, I think it would make a pretty bland movie. I don't know, for some reason the more realistic anime just seem kind of lifeless when made into movies so far.
At least, that's what I though of the Prince of Tennis, Initial D, and Great Teacher Onizuka live-action movies.
I think something out-there and creative like One Piece could make a very good transition to live action, oddly enough.
And for the record, I hated the live action Death Note movie (only watched the first one, love the anime series though). Also was not a big fan of Devilman or Cashern, though Cashern had some cool fight scenes. And of course, I hated the live action Fist of the North Star, though it had some hilarious moments.
Hmm, really the only live-action anime movies I've liked are Cutie Honey, Shinobi (the movie based on the Basilisk manga/anime), and Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky. And I also enjoy the Young and Dangerous movies.
That said, I'd really love to see a well done live action Gundam or Macross movie (G-Savior doesn't count). I'm very surprised that neither of those are on the list.
-
Live Action jus sux ass
Dragonball Evolution was possibly 1 of the shi88est movies ever made
and ive seen Bleach Saein (a musical) that was gd and the actors looked like the characters from bleach which was nice
-
Yes plz, ruin our OP with liveaction movie.
-
The main problem is to transfer manga to live action.
Like Dragon ball. It only works on "paper"~~ -
It doesn't even work on paper. There's not enough running time that any production company would green light that would effectively tell any OP story, let alone introduce even the first five characters.
-
I really enjoyed the live action movie of 20th century boys.
But with One Piece's goofy cartoon feel, how can they get this across as live action?
-
Hey, a campy Yatterman-like japanese movie could actually work. Someone call Takashi Miike.
-
If you throw in some CGI like that Casshern (sp) movie it could AT LEAST retain the OP style. But then you may as well not bother with the real people.
-
@Psycho_Kenshin:

Riki Oh's movie is the best bad movie. I laughed like there was no tomorrow and loved it. I was pretty disappointed with Death Note's and in regards of DB I like the Cantonese movie better.
It was badly good.
!
I usually avoid Live action movies and the ones I've seen have been either a bet, by obligation (from friends) or because I read they are funny… like Riki Oh's. That one is badass funny.
-
I don't want to see Luffy like that guy in Fantastic 4 :(
-

I liked The Magic Begins too - I think we like it because it was so faithful to the plot, I mean Roshi looked like the manga Roshi & they intergrated many things from the Manga into it.
The only downside was (not even that bad, because it made me laugh!) that basically all the Men bar Roshi shared that same black gelled wig
-
I love how Gintama is no 6 on that list.
Elizabeth live action would be some guy in a penguin costume.
-
Jojo's Bizarre adventure would be cool to watch.
One Piece only got second cause it's popular. I'm sure most fans would tell you that the series is IMPOSSIBLE to make into a 2 hour live action.
but i'm just talking out my ass, so I could be quite wrong about this statement.
Slam Dunk as a movie… I could see that
-
I'd Like a JBA film, mainly because the manga is shit quality and the anime is so hard to find, but I'm sure a film'd be easier to get hold of and then maybe I can get into this craze too.
-
DEAR GOD NO D:
I dread the thoughts of casting and plot D:
-
It doesn't even work on paper. There's not enough running time that any production company would green light that would effectively tell any OP story, let alone introduce even the first five characters.
If you wanted to fit in a whole story in the allotted movie time, you'd probably have to do a live-action remake of one of the movies that's already out, and maybe throw in a brief character intro. How do you think movie 8 would look in live-action?
But yeah, other than that, you just don't get enough time. For that you'd probably have to do a live action TV series, and that's not a wise idea.
The only thing I can think would be cool about this is seeing what the characters would look like if they were real, provided that they were casted and made-up to look almost exactly like the character (but isn't that where cosplay comes in?). Other than that, the movie would have to be approached with extreme caution (how WOULD you go about screenwriting, plot developing, etc.?) or else it'd be a movie NOBODY would want to see.
Also on that note, I was talking to someone in my Japanese class about the live-action DB movie, and he was saying that one of the best things the movie producers could do is get an actual fan of the series to work on the movie rather than someone who has been familiarized with it but isn't truly a fan.
-
It would work if there was no Devil fruits involved. It would still suck though.
-
Yeah. Hey, what if it was done like Final Fantasy movie style? That way you get the "closer to realistic" look but it still maintains some of its fantasy elements? Yeah, it's not "live action," but maybe it would work out a little better?
Also, Chopper would have to be CG in a live-action movie. He would probably look terrible otherwise (except for heavy point, as one cosplayer was cool enough to show the world).
-
Personally, I'd look a little more forward to a SLAM DUNK, JOJO, or [potential] MONSTER live action movie before OP.
-
A Full Metal Alchemist Movie would be cool
-

That's what YOU think! Imagine the fallowing:
Vice Admiral "Axe-Hand" Morgan Krieg has barely escaped the Grand Line, courtesy of a hurricane. He planned to confiscate the Baratie and hide from Mihawk, who was ordered by the World Government to kill him for his illigal methods of rising through the ranks.
"Clown of 1,000 Plans" Black Buggy lost the pasion for piracy when he accidentally ate a Devil Fruit, was no longer able to claim Captain John's treasure as his own, and has since faked his own death. He now plots to plunder Cocoyashi Village and share the spoils of Nami and Nojiko's combined weath with Arlong, who bribes Captain Nezumi of the Marines to not interfere and even keep the situation a secret. (As a tangerine tycoon, Nojiko has been helping others under the table with their life taxes all these years)
By the power of plot fusion, Everyone but Usopp could be introduced on the Baratie, which would take an hour or less to cover. Cocoyashi Village could accumulate two hours easy.
-
DEAR GOD NO D:
I dread the thoughts of casting and plot D:
Once again, I have this very thuroughly planned-out.
Michael D. Newbury as Monkey D. Luffy (Wait, who? Will of D aside, he's a big fan of One Piece and can easily get into character because of his autism.)
H. Dekota Fanning as Nami and her sister as Nojiko (The greatest actress of all time and her sister as the greatest navigator of all time and her sister!)
Ellen Degeneres as Sanji (Come on, you KNOW this is perfect)
Jet Li as Roronoa Zoro (He has repeatedly insisted that he is ending his martial arts type-casting, but this is a cartoon role first and foremost! He'll even be holding back more than usual!)
"Weird" Al Yankovic as Narrarator and Usopp (I already mentioned why this would be a totally awsome idea.)
Sean Connery as Monkey D. Garp (The perfect facial hair, and an awsome voice!)
Chuck Norris as Zeff (Roundhouse kick!)
Antonio Banderas as Mihawk (he could totally kick the asses of both Arnold and Jet Li, I'm sure.)
Leonardo Decaprio as Morgan Fullbody (Who wants to see Ellen kick him in the face?)
Arnold Shwartzinegger as Morgan Krieg (not so much after governing California, but it could still work)
Michael Jackson as Jango (He would only be more perfectly cast as Orochimaru)
Rosie O'Donnell as Alvita (She only appears for a few seconds to get punched in the face.)
Sigfried as Mohji, Roy as Caboji, and their white lion as Richi (If they're worried about stunts, a CG lion.)
Robin Williams as "Clown of 1,000 Plans" Black Buggy (It's most of his previous roles all in one!)
Dan Green as Yosaku (I think they look alike, and it would be funny because of his role as Jonny.)
Mr. T as Gaimon (in Black Buggy's DVD special)
Undecided: Higusa, the Redhair Pirates, Nezumi, Bellemere, Genzo, Morgan G. Helmeppo, Jonny, the Fishman Pirates, Patty, the Usopp Pirates featuring Coby, Silvers Reyliegh, the childhood versions of Luffy, Ace, Sanji, Usopp, Nami, Nojiko, Zoro, Kuina, Buggy, and Shanks
-
Luffy is the chosen one who must claim the ancient treasure One Piece which is said to be the key to overthrow the evil World Empire who locked it away hundreds of years ago. Along the way he meets Nami a skilled thief for hire, Zolo a young swords master who wields two blades, and Sanji a ladies man and skilled kickboxer.
Dump the Devil Fruit, Usopp, Luffy being a pirate because it wouldn't make sense to the general public, and he can stretch because the world is filled with Mutants.
-
But Deep (Deep, Deep, Deep) Down - We ALL Love Them
No .
-
I always said, OP could make a good film series, it just depends if the right people get behind it. But that is true about anything, really.
-
True - But you can't deny that James Marsters MADE Piccolo !
FOR 4 MINUTES OUT OF 88!
On another note, I'm happy to see "Fullmetal Alchemist" on the list. It'd make for a great summer action movie, as long as they keep the themes of religion vs. science it'd make a great movie. And I've been saying for a while that "One Piece" and "Dragonball" would do great in the hands of Imagi Studios. It wouldn't be live-action, but hey it's closer to resembling real actors than 2-d hand-drawn and they proved with "TMNT" (and "Astro Boy" from what it's shaping up to be) that they can create a solid 1.5- 2 hour movie.
-
Calamari, you stay FAR AWAY from One Piece. Oda should file a restraining order.
Also, the idea I've made for a movie is what I call a "pre-emptive prequel". It's primary purpose for the American audiance is to explain where the first five came from and how they got together. Gold Roger's execution would start the real movie, then fading to Black Buggy about to do the same to Luffy.
-
H. Dekota Fanning as Nami and her sister as Nojiko (The greatest actress of all time and her sister as the greatest navigator of all time and her sister!)
greatest actress you say…?
surely you are kidding -
I admit, I'm a sucker for child protages and have had a crush on her for many years now. She hasn't starred in a lot of great movies so far (like the next Twilight), but she could out-act a large majority of Hollywood since age 7. I can only pray she doesn't jump the shark.
-
Did you just delete a post? I could have sworn I saw you listed as the latest poster of this form, in this thread. Then I arrive in here five seconds later and…nothing.
-
-
I think with these movies what holds them back or not is their style.
Things like alchemy can be created easily on screen, but that goofy cartoon style of One Piece can't, when you're using real people (just look at DBE). So if they did make this movie, there'd probably be so many sacrifices, so many modernisers and changes to fit it to a film that works with real people that it will be so far from the source material it may as well be a Japanese B-movie. Like DBE, only that was an American B-Movie,
-
Regarding Slam Dunk…i can't see Sakuragi Hanamichi working as a live action character. He's just like that, too good for an actor.
..and nobody uses his hairstyle anymore
-
what we know:
-it will be crappy(hoply not DB-crappy)
-we will all go and watch this masterpiece
-we won`t get some famous actors for that..just a bunch of casted or idiotic second-hand actorsso i prefer to see in near future a monster-movie..would be awesome..loved monster and this could be easy an actually good movie!!!
-
Dump…Usopp
What? But he can't be left out; he's one of the main characters. If this is about the nose, remember: make-up worked for Steve Martin in Roxanne, based on the book Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmund Rostand.
Aside from that, this movie would DEFINITELY have to work within the confines of the One Piece world and not be some radical stretch like I've heard the DragonBall movie was… ick...
What if Oda himself worked on the live-action movie? How would you all feel about that?
-
No, Three Days, Zeff IS a roundhouse kicker. HE LEAVES HIS FOOTPRINTS ON STEEL.
I would star Oda as none other than Gold Roger himself. Both he and Linda Hamelton (Nico Robin) would be the script supervisors.
-
